Hi everyone,

Just a quick question... when you get Packet 3, do you mail off DS-230(1) and a copy of your passport first or do you mail those along with the checklist and the applicant statement in one go?

I'm just rather unsure about this.

Thanks!

Hi everyone! So, we just got our NVC letter (please please please click on it to view) and I was wondering generally, how long did it take for you guys to receive your packet 3? At first I thought I'd give it 2 weeks before I call the US embassy up to check but then I noticed that you guys get the packet 3 pretty quickly.

Should I be calling next week already? Thanks!

Hi everyone!

Newbie here. We submitted our K1 Petition back in January, should be hearing something this month about our NOA2. I'm glad there's a Malaysian thread here! Sometimes I get so lost and overwhelmed with all that is needed to be done!

By the way, how do you get that timeline thing to show in your posts?

National Visa Center (Dept of State)Please help me understand what's next?

Your approved petition will be forwarded to the embassy in Malaysia. You should get a packet 3 in the post or be able to download it from the website for the required documents at interview including a medical exam and a police clearance certificate. There is no fee to be paid before your packet goes to the embassy as you are a k-1 visa type. You will pay a visa fee but that is right at interview.

do a quick search here you will find a malaysia specific thread i believe.

try to relax, i do remember how stressful this part was!

best of luck!

Thank you for making it clearer! I read so much stuff that I got more and more confused with what I read haha!

Dear all,

I really tried looking all over VJ site to understand what to expect next, what do we do next, but I just can't really understand. Can someone please please please please explain where do we go from here? Do I just wait for the packet from the embassy? Isn't there some sort of fee to be paid before they send the petition to the embassy? I'M SO CONFUSED!!

Please take a look at the letter we received.

Thanks so so much everyone.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionRescheduling to a LATER date

Hey sueling,

You can ask the US embassy for a reschedule, however you won't get to choose a date - the embassy does that. We asked for a reschedule as well (via email) and they were very helpful and accommodating.

P.S. There's a Malaysian VJ thread where you can find more specific answers.

Thank you!! This is very helpful!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionRescheduling to a LATER date
Hi everyone,

I hope this hasn't been asked already but since I can't seem to find the answer anywhere, you guys are my best bet. I recently just found out that to obtain my certificate of good conduct from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Malaysia) would take at least 2 months not as like I was previously told that it would take one month. I am two weeks of reaching that 5 month wait and VSC is already reviewing applications the week ahead of mine. So, putting two and two together, I suppose we would get our NOA2 pretty soon. I'm really worried here that I may not get the certificate before the set interview date (when that happens). Is it possible to delay the interview without any repercussions?

I guess it's really my fault for not applying earlier :( :( :(

Thanks everyone!

Since he is able to communicate with them in Mandarin, why they still got denied?

Don't know, I don't understand Mandarin :)

And yes, I heard that he is much more lenient and pleasant than the others especially the female CO!

They need a Chinese translator because they couldn't communicate with the CO or they don't have the common language with their fiance/spouse?

The CO, is he an older Asian American?

Thanks!

They couldn't communicate with the CO but good thing the CO was this young Asian American guy so he was easily able to switch to Mandarin.

I'm not entirely sure as all of them needed a Chinese translator but I could make out one had a passport that was almost expiring.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsAPPROVED!!
Hi everyone!

We got approved today and it was the single most anti-climatic experience ever! Was last to be interviewed, saw everyone prior to me get denied *VERY scary!* The interview lasted literally like 5 minutes, the later half of which the CO spent typing away on the computer.

Here are the questions I got asked incase anyone wants them!

1. What is your fiance's name?
2. When was he born?
3. What is his mother's name?
4. Where does he work now? (He doesn't at the moment and they knew that since we submitted the affidavit of support, so I think he was testing me)
5. How many times have you visited the US?
6. How many times have you visited the US to visit his family?
7. Have you met his family?
8. How many times have we met in person?
9. Where in the US does he live?
10. What is it like in that part of the US? (My fiance lives in Ft. Lauderdale)
11. How long have you been together?
12. Why did you wait so long before deciding to get married? (We have been in this LDR thing for 6.5 years)

That was when he stopped asking questions and started typing away at his computer. HE DIDN'T EVEN LOOK AT THE MOUNTAIN OF EVIDENCE I BROUGHT ALONG HAHAHAHA! I'm almost upset that I didn't get to use all those explanations I've worked up in my mind  In fact, he didn't even TOUCH it  (When I say mountain, I mean mountain haha! It was like 5 inches thick of evidence in that sense, I basically frontloaded them... if they had gone through the documents :P )

Then he turned to me and was like, "Oh btw, your visa is approved!"

All the best to those with interviews soon! Be confident and smile!!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPassport Renewal Potential Problem?
Hi everyone,

When my fiance and I submitted our K1 Petition back in January, my passport was still valid for a year (expires DEC 2011). But I need to renew this passport this weekend as I need to submit a copy to get a police certificate of good conduct. My question is, would it be a problem if I renewed it because I can see it becoming a problem if they find out that I have less than 6 months validity left. Also, in Malaysia, we can't renew our passport if it's valid for 6 months and more. I'm at a lost here, please help :(

Everyone!!!

My U.S fiance just called to say that he received a letter (hard copy) from NVC stating that they have just received our I-129F petition and that they'll be forwarding it to the Malaysian embassy within the week. The THING is, we haven't received any form of NOA2 and USCIS not unsurprisingly, hasn't updated itself (it still says that the last time our petition was touched was 01/25/11.

What does this meaaaaaaaan?! Are we approved? I hope it means that!

I'm seriously giddy with excitement/fear/confusion/everything!!!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresQuitting job = red flag?

Do you have another job? You will need to provide affidavit of support(I-134)for the beneficiary; one of the requirement is that either you have a permamnent job that provides enough salary under the poverty guideline in which you will need a letter from your employer and pay check stubs as well or enough assets to prove that the beneficiary will not rely on government for a living. So think very deeply before you resign because if you can't prove either way...K1 visa WILL be denied. See if you can tolerate it a little bil longer for the sake your loved one. Good Luck to you or your journey of love and life

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I'm the beneficiary. My fiance will be filing in the affidavit of support since he's finishing up what's left of his college (he got discharged from the military in January) and is currently unemployed.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresQuitting job = red flag?
Short version? I can't stand my job... any longer.

Didn't want to quit because thought it would raise some red flags, plus it pays well. This week we would hit the 5 month mark since NOA1. It seems like "perfect timing", though to be fair, I do want to spend some time with my family ( I work 10-13 hour days). I originally wanted to resign after I had the interview but I just can't stand my job anymore. Would this pose as a problem later at the interview?

Please help. Thanks.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCar loan cause for denial?

That's completely, entirely, a non-issue for immigration purposes. Like totally.

The thing is, I really don't feel comfortable until I feel like I have covered all my bases. My best friend recently got behind some student loans and our government banned him from emigrating. That's why I thought this may be an issue.

Still, thank you everyone for replying :) :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCar loan cause for denial?
Hi everyone,

I just need some insight from you guys. I have a car loan that's not paid off yet but I'm in the process of selling the car so that I'm not in debt. If I don't manage to sell it by the time I go for my interview, will this be a cause for the visa denial? I can understand that they may view it as me abandoning my debt (though I'm really not trying to!) Also, my dad is helping out in selling the car and he will help me to sell it even after I leave.

What do you guys think? Thanks a lot of the help.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSupplemental Non-Immigrant Visa Application

just to be safe i would attach the sheet and not have to worry about any confusion with these consulars looking to deny for any stupid reason.

True, would want to avoid giving them any reason to! Btw, about that additional sheet... is it just like a regular blank sheet of paper or do I have to print out the form again and just fill in that bit?

It seems pretty clear I think.. But if you're not sure maybe you could also put them in this way: "USA '93, '96, '01 etc..". Gives you a little more space to squeeze it all in. Or just attach an additional sheet. And stop worrying :)

Good luck!

Thanks! Will try to worry a bit less :P :P

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSupplemental Non-Immigrant Visa Application
Hi everyone,

So I just received Packet 3 today and I'm filling out the supplemental non-immigrant visa application. Under where it says list all countries I've entered in the past 10 years, I put it like so:

USA 1993, 1996, 2001, 2008, SINGAPORE 2006-2010, HONG KONG 2007, ITALY 2008.

I managed to squeeze everything in that box. What do you think? Acceptable? Would you understand that I went to Singapore in each year from 2006 to 2010?

Thanks everyone :D

hi Malaysians!

we are starting our I-130 app soon. Just want to know, for Malay applicants, do you put BIN/BINTI as your middle name (if you only have one name like me)? A little confused here. I dont consider that my name, since it's like "daughter of/son of" so hope someone can clarify that for me, thanks!

I think it's not required. You just need to put in your name as in First Name, Last Name, middle initial (if any). That's what I've done for all my applications thus far. Either way, my name doesn't have any of that even in my Msian documents.

hey guys,
if you go to putra jaya for a certified english birth certificate (JPN department), it only costs you RM10. It is already a certified translated copy.

Don't need to translate anymore.....An easier way which worked for me, was to get a new format Birth cert from any JPN office. There's one opposite the HSBC bank in PJ State. It only takes 10 mins to get it after showing your IC and paying RM5 to request for an extract. Don't be fleeced by those ppl demanding hundreds just to translate a simple document. I saved a lot of $$$ this way and I can use it for life. Don't need to translate & pay money to certify everytime I need a new certified copy.

You can also try filing the Form I-824, Application for Action on Approved Petition, at the office which approved the I-130 if it has been too long. Maybe that will help.....you might want to check with your attorney before doing so.

I had the same problem where both of them were telling me the case is with the other. You just have to wait it out and keep calling the CIS as well as NVC and ask them where your file is. Don't forget to mention that each of them are saying the file is with the other agency and they need to find the file and get back to you. They're customer service and they have to get back to you although it may take some time. Mine took almost a yr to sort out. Writing via snail mail helped in my case. It's a black hole when they send the file to each other. It's as though it's sent to the other agency and stored in a box in a dark room until someone decides to clean it up some day.

Good Luck!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresAdvise needed

Hi,

I just got my green card approved at consular and now i have been actively looking for a job in US. BTW, i am currently working in Malaysia. Consider i got a job interview and ask me to go over to US for a face-to-face interview, should i enter the US using my immigrant visa or visiting visa (B1)? As the job interview is not a guarantee until an offer letter is provided and i am afraid that i will start losing my financial support if the employer does not offer me a job. I have a loan that need to be paid every month. I have 6 months before my immigrant visa expired so i am planning to go there only just before the visa get expired.

My question would be:- can i enter the US using my visiting visa for the interview? Thanks for everyone's advise.

U must enter the US using your immigrant visa. They would have cancelled your B1 visa at the interview itself. That's wat they did to mine. I had a coronary for a moment until he told me not to worry and that they're giving me an immigrant visa instead! Phew!

You must enter before the immigrant visa expires. That's what I just did and I came back within 3 weeks. I just took a paid vacation instead to settle all my work here and wrap up before i leave for good sometime next yr. About the job interview, I'm not in a position to help but you are right and I'm in the same boat as you are. I have a home and car to pay for. disposing of the car is easy but my home is not even ready and I'm servicing the installments. Hopefully it will be ready as planned (end of this yr) so I can dispose of it or rent it out and leave for the US.

I have my AOS interview on March 10! Finally! :) :)

Did you have to have your shots transcribed by a Civil Surgeon for the interview?

Also it says, petitioner's Birth Certificate and your petitioner's evidence of United States Citizenship or Lawful Permanent Resident Status.
If he has a US Birth Certificate, that takes care of both right?

Also, I need to register my marriage with the Malaysian Embassy. What photo size will they want? Malaysian? and on blue background? Where should I go to get that?

Hehehe, Yep, I got mine on July 29th too!
So that means I must have been there the same time as the other Malaysian fiancee. ;-) I guess I saw one other girl in there... Didn't really pay attention.

And yeah, didn't look through any of my "proof of ongoing relationship" documents and only took the required forms on the checklist. He did look through my photos and thanked me for showing them to him. haha. He was a young Asian american guy and real sweet. Just talked to me as if I was a new friend and he was just getting to know me. Relaxed and non tense!

Yippie!

Another Malaysian VJ-er also got the visa approved on the 29th, but I'll wait for the person to announce it himself/herself ;)

As for me, I got my NOA2 dated July 14th. :)
