K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresForgot Something for I-130 Help!
They'll send you an RFE once they get to your petition and ask you to send in ALL pages of your passport at that time.

However, and I'm not sure if this would work, you could of course mail the missing information to CSC after receiving your NOA1. Then, you would have your case number and you could ask them to add the information to your file.

So don't worry; your error will make things slightly more complicated but you will be ok.

I didn't send in notarized copies of anything, but brought the originals to the interview just in case they wanted to make sure that the copies were real. They didn't even look at them...

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresOptions.....
I agree the best thing to do would be to go back and have your spouse fill an immigrant petition for you. Getting married on a tourist visa is totally no problem unless you decide to stay, and given the fact that you're planning a big wedding a will be hard to prove that you got married spontaneously.

So, once you're married (or even before if you have the time to do so), fill out the paperwork for the I30. Send off the I-130 as soon as you're married and you have a copy of your marriage certificate. You can do so while you're still in the US, but should indicate that you're planning to leave. If you want to be on the safe side file the 129f in addition, but you have to wait for the receipt notice of the I-130 before you can do that. After that, all you can do is wait and hope for speedy approval. You can find out more about the I-130 (CR1-visa) and 129f (K3-visa) in the guide section.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresStupid question about I-130 and I-129F

Hello,

1.) we filed for an I-130 at the NSC. I was told that they would forward it to the CSC. I am right assuming that the California Service Center processing times are relevant for us? Or still NSC? (Necessary background information: We got married earlier this year).

2.) the processing time (from NOA1 to NOA2) for some I-130's seems to be significantly lower at the CSC than indicated, e.g. 100 days instead of 180. Does anyone know a good explaination?

Thank you,

Michigan2004

First off, :time:. It's a helpful tool that let's other people on this site know where you are in your visa journey and it helps with the statistics which let newcomers know what to expect.

Anyway, to answer your questions:
1.) NSC still forwards petitions to CSC, so if you want to find out about processing times CSC would be the place to go. On the other hand, NSC will have the same dates for USC-petitions.

2.) The service centers work at different speeds. VSC is and has been for a while the fastest. CSC has been catching up lately, and I think they're down to less than 180 days now. Check out the stats for more info: General and Service Center specific.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresmessed something up
Nothing to do at this point. And while it's very convenient to have copies, it's not the end of the world if you don't have them. The consulate didn't ask for them when I had my interview.

I guess the reason to make copies is to have a backup if something gets lost (which can happen at any stage). If you made a copy, you can send that in; otherwise you could be stuck refilling all those forms.

Hmm.. I can't get mine to work either. The NVC told me that it left for the embassy today. It's not showing up though on the DHL website.. atleast nothing to Germany.....and the list seems short.. only like 10 or so left today.. I'm confused.

They told me mine left on March 7th... but the DHL shows it left on the 10th. I think it just went to the mail room on the 7th.

Thanks Sylvia for trying to clarify the meaning of my original post. I had no idea someone would take what I said the wrong way. I was in NO way trying to "bash" Nigeria in any way. In fact I have taken offense to some of the posts on here before due to the fact that my husband and his family are from there. I have traveled there three times and have met some very loving and wonderful people. My original intention was to do what you said (Sylvia) to gain some knowlege to make this process easier for both myself and my husband. So again Galaxy I apologize for upsetting you and you misunderstanding what I was trying to say.

QUOTE (Sylvia_n_Joseph @ Dec 28 2008, 07:04 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
If you read the historical posts here you will find a lot of traffic on marriages that don't last long. There seems to be more from Nigeria that fall apart than from the UK. Why, because of cultural differences most likely. The original poster you are referring to is looking for some information. Going into a relationship if you know what has posed problems for others you have insight into what can happen in your relationship. That insight may give you the ability to correct something before it goes from being an issue to being a problem. There are bad stories about Nigeria all over the net. Partly because more bad Nigerians have access to the net it seems than good ones. I just returned from there and met hundreds of wonderful people. I bet only 2-3 have internet access. What most people here know of Nigeria revolves around the 419 and romance scams because that is the type of Nigerian they here of. I don't think anyone goes into a relationship knowing they are dealing with a scammer and because of the restrictions in traveling many that are in love with a Nigerian have a limited experience really living together. There are huge differences in culture and it takes give and take on both parts to settle to a merged culture. Some couples manage to do this, some never can. To travel from your homeland to live in another place takes a lot of courage and trust. But it can be traumatic. A new culture, possibly really living together for the first time. I think the OP is trying to find hints to make this process easier not bashing Nigeria.
Peace

Sylvia

Welcome Michelle and Tunji !!!!

Michelle u asked what's it like once your alien spouse arrives ? Well I'd like to first ask u what it was like once you went to Nigeria and how long did it take u too adjust; think of that then apply that too your husband.

I know Victor had little problems with adjusting, he had mastered the bus system the first few days to my. astonishment. The thing is Michelle is that alot of opportunist use americans and marriage as a way to gain american benefits. My ex-husband did that exact thing. So it's kinda hard to tell u what it'll be like for you once your husband arrives because it will depend on alot of factors.

Just as you adjusted to Nigeria, your fiance will adjust, and the love you enjoy now should not change.

Everytime I read your timeline, I sigh. Its so sad. I hope moving forward that everything is well.

~M

Every consulate has different time frams from receipt of the approved petition to the interview. In Ghana for example, the wait is 3-6 months. In the Dominican Republic it used to be 2 years until recently. It just depends on the load that the consulate has and the staff that they have to process visas. I think the wait for Nigeria is 2-3 months.

Its just the "efficiency" with which they operate.

Welcome newbies! Ask any questions and we'll all jump in with our experiences.

Definitely check out ZeeNusah's tracking thread. You'll see there that for Nigeria, the interview dates come sooner once the process is done ont his side of the ocean than many of the other sub saharan countries. This is a long wait though. No doubt about it. Bassi's interview was a year after we filed the petition. So prepare yourself for a long wait. Maybe plan a trip after six months or so if you think you'll die from the wait. I kept putting off a trip thinking it would happen any day now.....and any day now was 12 months away. So I wish I went for Christmas like I first wanted to. Well, hindsight is 20/20 as they say.

Good Luck on your journey! We're here to help!

I really am just learning trying to take this one step at a time. How do you apply for the CR-1?? And what is the cost?? Cuz I know with the USCIS there HAS to be a cost involved. LOL. I wanted to wait and interview on the I130 (in nigeria), but have heard the interviews are being scheduled way into next year and this being apart is really killing me. I miss him soooo much and its getting harder and harder. I have a friend who did the CR-1, but in her case I think it was because the petition (I129f) had been put into administrative processing. There is just so much confusing/conflicting information and I really just want to make sure I do what is right for Ademola & I and I don't want any mistakes. Any information you all can give me would be greatly appreciated!! Could you also share a little info about how it is once they are here?? Thanks

Hey Michelle, Welcome and Congratulations!

When my husband and I applied ( which seems like many moons ago) we filed the CR-1, and the K-3 simultaneously. We opted for the CR-1 in the end because it had more advantages. He didn't have to adjust his status once he was here, he only needed to lift his conditions.(after 2 years) He also received his Resident card and his SSN immediately.
It's almost time for him to file for Citizenship, which is awesome! I will feel better about extended stays in Nigeria once that is over. Just a few months away.... kicking.gif

Yes it sure does, but the problem is the I130 is at the NVC (almost complete). Do you know if he can use the same medical exam he did for the I129 interview or does he have to complete it again? It has only been since April, but I'm just not sure if its a different exam or not. I paid the extra 470 to go ahead with the IR1, but now that the I129 is almost complete I just don't know what to do. I really don't want to lose that money and have to adjust status here and him not be able to work for at least 6 months. I'm sorry.....I'm rambling just so much is going through my head right now.

Here are the questions that were asked:

Hi my daughter,
How are you and the kids. Long time no hear! Somebody from the American Embassy came asking for your husband a few minutes ago. I asked for his name after introducing myself as Akin Salawu. He said they dont normally give our identity for security reasons but since I am an old man,he idetified himself as simply Paul.
We had a very lively chat:
1. I am from the American Embassy. I am looking for one Demola Salawu
-- Yes, he is my son.
2. Where is he now?
-- Has gone to work.
3. Is he married?
-- Yes
4. Where is she?
-- In USA. Maines to be very exact.
5. Did you consent to the marriage?
-- Yes, of course. And we are always in contact by mail. Her name is Michelle but I also gave her a native name 'Gbemisola'.. Please note that he came back 10 minutes after he left to ask for this native name again.
6. How many times has she visited?
-- Like 4 times.
7. Do you have her pictures?
-- Yes. ( I went upstairs and brought my envelope album containing my pictures and yours too). He looked at them. He identified me, mom, Demola and you in the pictures. I asked whether he needed to take one of the pictures away, then he showed me the one he broght with him (showing you and Demola only). He didnt ask for wedding pictures.
.8. Other facts which I volunteered:
-- Profession: Banker/Computer Scientist
-- Retired from First Bank way back 1992
-- Let him know our property.

Take care.
Raheem Akinade Salawu
Your father-in-law

Well that stinks! Next your sign him up with the Saco Jr. Trojans league. It is an amazing organization. My son played in a Portland Jubilee yesterday. His team won 42 to nothing.
My lineman son caught an interception. I was screaming my head off. Ok i get real excited and yell a lot at his games. I might get kicked out of the stadium on day. LOL

Isaac is the center lineman and has caught his fair share of interceptions. I LOVE watching him play though......he's pretty good for a third grader. He's gonna be swinging and playing both offense and defense. I like his coaches so that's good. Do you know anything about the CR1/IR1??
