Ok-- the weirdest thing just happened. I went to check my status online at USCIS, and the date had changed... instead of saying 8/14/2007 like it has since that date, it said 11/02/2007.... now, i've been checking EVERYDAY since 8/14/2007 and that's the first time it had changed. I was in shock, because it had changed, and started hyperventilating. My brother was looking over my shoulder, and suggested I print it. I did that, then refreshed the page, but got booted out of USCIS website, so had to log back in. When I logged back in, the date was back to 8/14/2007...

WHAT THE *&%$#&!?!??!?! ohmy.gif ohmy.gif blink.gif

I am so happy I printed it, because I have proof... but... now it's back to 8/14/2007 again..... so what am I to think?!?

Has this happened to anyone else??!

Never heard of that.. Since you have the printout double check the numbers maybe you made a typo.

It's my name... it's my EAC number.... strange.

Gratzies!!! I am sure soon you will be superstitiously loving the number 13 - it will be your new lucky number!! laughing.gif

I can’t imagine I’ll be very popular posting this, but it’s been a thought that keeps drifting into my mind, and I wonder if there’s any validity to it. Maybe it’s not a trend, but it seems like people who have more complications in their relationships are waiting longer for an NOA2. I’d be interested to find out the stories that go along with people who have been waiting 6 months or longer. Do they have previous marriages? Children from the previous marriages? Does their SO have previous marriages with children from those relationships? It seems like these would be harder to adjudicate. Because not only are you looking at the two people who want to be together, but you’ve got to take into consideration their families. Do the families plan on coming to the US once the visa is approved? I would imagine that they’d do background checks on the families as well, not just the beneficiary. I recall reading a thread with some posts written by a former USCIS adjudicator that made it apparent that more complicated files took longer… So I would think that if you’ve got a lot of history, the process could take a little bit longer. I’m a worrier myself, but if your file is taking longer than others on this site, I wouldn’t jump to the conclusion that they’ve lost it, or that something’s wrong. I would just think that it’s taking a bit longer to check out your history. Personally, my fiancé has a divorce behind him, and I’ve got the name of a convicted felon (found it when I Googled my name!), so I imagine that it will take just a little longer to sort my file out. I’m keeping you all in my thoughts- especially those of you are watching the people who filed after you slide by. Just be confident that this won’t be forever, and that you WILL eventually get through this!

Based on timeline data, your I129f may be adjudicated as early as January 1, 2008*.

We have almost the exact same timeline, so my expected date is 1/01/08 right now too... If we don't get our NOA2s before that, it'll be a hell of a way to start the new year! Good luck to you!

Ok guys, I just had the most bizarre conversation with USCIS ever! I called the customer service line just a minute ago to find out if our case had been forwarded to NVC yet - yes I know it was probably pointless, but I need to do something....I hate waiting! anyway I got through to a customer service representative who told me that once the K1 petition is approved it gets forwarded onto the State Department for another screening, they then have the right to request more inquiry and if more is needed its sent back to USCIS. (luckily mine was not sent back according to her records) and then she said that is is sent onto the embassy. I was like, no I believe it goes to NVC for a new case number and they forward it to the embassy. She told me to hang on for a minute, I could hear her clicking away on the computer and she starts asking me a million form questions about my and my fiance, am I a US citizen intending to marry a foreign fiance, are we both free to marry, where is my fiance now, are there any children involved, are we intending to marry within 90 days of entry, etc etc etc.....totally weird. then she says she has looked up the processing guidelines for the I129F Petition for Fiance and tells me that it is not in the processing guidelines for these cases to be sent to the NVC, rather after they are cleared and do not need any further security checks or processing they are sent straight from the servicing center to the corresponding embassy.....#######????? I asked her is she was sure this is how it works, she said yes. I asked her if this was a new policy she said no. She then recommended I call the London Embassy to inquire if they had received it yet because there is no way for her to have further information on its whereabouts once it is approved and has left there system.......once again #######??? so I said, alright worse case scenario it does not show up at NVC or the embassy, like ever, how is it tracked and found and she said they have no way of tracking them once they are approved and are done with the servicing center.

I say once again #######?????

I am sure she is wrong, but my head is spinning a little! wacko.gif blink.gif

blink.gif I have a theory that USCIS sits around thinking of ways to screw with us. They're sitting there in their little cubicles thinking... "well, the public seems to have finally figured us out, so let's throw them another curve ball"...

I can give you no explanation for what they've told you... My first thought after reading this was - Are you sure you called USCIS?! And I'm sure you know what you're doing, so .... this person has got to be wrong, or severly confused. This is an incredibly good example of the customer service that USCIS provides. If I were you, I'd find the Ombudsman's email address and send him what you've just written here. Just to give him a good idea of what kind of help USCIS provides!

HELP! I am about to call my Senator and explain to them all the issues we have with USCIS, and i cannot remember the situation exactly... I'm going to tell him about my personal situation (and we've only been waiting a little over 100 days), but i also want to mention how VSC was prioritizing a different type of work visa back in October. Can someone remind me of what this situation was exactly?

Hate to change the subject... but... I wrote to my senators and congressmen and finally had a reply today... A letter in the mail from my senator's assistant asking for me to call him to discuss the letter I sent. Now I've got their attention; what do I say? Normally I've got no troubles explaining our situation (and then I usually find I get pretty worked up about it all), but I've never had the chance to talk to someone who could actually help. Any ideas as to what to say? What would you tell YOUR senator, if asked about all this?

Hate US immigration though - always made to feel like a criminal smile.gif

Ok - bedtime now biggrin.gif

laughing.gif
I had to laugh when I read that... I am american, and the last time I tried to get into the UK, upon arrival I ended up spending the day in immigration! I was pulled aside because I didn't have a return ticket (long story), and spent 8 hours in a holding room with other "detainees", being questioned over and over... Eventually I was denied entry, and sent back to the US... It was like they were fishing for reasons to deny me, and in the end their argument for my refusal was weak, but nonetheless, I was sent back to the US. I know that immigration in the US is pretty tough, but the UK is no picnic either! whistling.gif

Ok-- completely off topic, but i have to ask this! I was just talking to this girl -she's american. Her English boyfriend came to the US to spend the summer with her, and they got married. No special situation- he didn't have a job, isn't related to anyone in the US, etc. He's now living with her here in the US, but can't work. He's hired a lawyer and they think they'll get his green card in 4 to 5 months. #######?! How does that work?? Anyone know what i'm missing here? I thought if you got married, you still had to be separated while you filed for your K3 visa.... I'm so lost. blink.gif

yea same thing is happening with my ladlady and her husband. But their case is "worse" b/c he was here illegaly and got married to her (the US citizen) in june on the beaches of St. Petersburg Fl (beautiful pics) and the other day he informed me that he already got the interview for the AOS.......and they don't have any lawyers..........I wish I would've known that earlier, I would've done the same thing with Ricardo, oh well just goes to show you how "strict" USCIS is

PS: no, they're not cuban, they're colombian, so in this case the country he was from didn't matter.....

I'm still confused. I didn't think this was an option for us, because i thought that once you were married, you had to file for the K-3 visa, and still couldn't live together at that point. I'm really lost. Why wouldn't everyone just go to their fiance's country, get married, and then adjust status?

Almost!!!

Have a bit of a favour in case anyone here is better at this than me!!

Jeremy is coming over for Christmas (yay!!) but only for a few days although they can be kinda flexible. The dates we are putting in are 21st Dec until 27th Dec as we have a Christmas celebration with my Dad on the 22nd (poor J is going to be sooo tired!)

Everything at the moment seems to be extortionate! And not just because we're being stingy but more expensive than it normally is at that time of year (and we've been looking for the past couple years!)

Anyone have any bright ideas/good sites to check?!

I suggest trying www.usairways.com, or maybe even www.kayak.com... but i have found my best deals thru us airways directly.

My fiance and his family are coming over at Christmas and have already bought tickets. When I told him about the US Airways site, he checked out his dates and was kicking himself- couple hundred quid cheaper there. Good luck!

Has anyone noticed on the VJ processing time charts show that anyone filing for I-130 has a shorter wait time than people filing for the I-129F?

I wonder how long this trend will last- considering I-129F has historically been faster....

Okay so I filed end of July and ran into a problem!!

I sent my package on July 27th and it reached TSC on July 30th (I had a return receipt). After more than a month of waiting, I received a notice w/my complete package returned in the mail that said it reached USCIS on or after July 30th and the fee that I sent in ($170) was outdated and I should send the correct fee IE $455 and resubmit my package.

Did this happen to anyone else???

Courtney - your application reached VSC on july 30th -no problems w/ fee??

The other thing that I am worried about now is that my fiance and I met LAST on 28th august 2005. So if resubmit my application now, will they raise a problem about not having met in the past two years since it is now september??? Will I have to travel to see him and file the petition again?

I am just totally freaked out! Any experiences?? Anything???

No problems yet, as far as I can tell, but there's still time unsure.gif

No worries on the Cuba topic...it was really just an aside anyway.

Yes you can visit the UK without any problems due to the I129-f being in process. No problem, many have done it many times! have a great trip. I envy you - I'd love to get back to the UK this year!

Ok, i just saw something a little bothersome... I have a lawyer for our K-1 visa, and there's a place on the lawyer's site to look at the progress of everyone at the law firm's K-1 visas through the VSC... Since my application was submitted towards the end of July, the law firm estimates a 60-90 waiting period for my NOA2. Anyone who's submitted an application in August has a waiting date of 150-180 days... YIKES! I never actually did receive a paper copy of my NOA1, does it say on there an "estimated waiting time"? I'm just wondering where my lawyer is getting these estimated waiting times.... unsure.gif

There is no estimated waiting time on the hard copy of the NOA1.

I think either your lawyer has some contacts at USCIS who are giving him/her the inside scoop or he/she is assuming that a big rush of pre increase petitions will slow things down quite a bit.

Why don't you ask your lawyer and then let us know what you find out?

My ever helpful ( wacko.gif ) lawyer responds to my request as follows:

"It used to take Vermont 30 – 60 days to make a decision on a K-1 visa petition. In light of the recent administrative and organizational changes, we are expecting their processing times to increase dramatically. "

So I guess the numbers they're talking about (60-90 days for July filers, 150-180 days for August filers) are just estimates based on ... well, based on predictions? Sorry, my lawyer is no help. unsure.gif But they must have an idea of how backed up the service centers are now, compared to how they were before the crazy price increase....

oh, I just HAD to share this with you guys... I'm listening to music on my computer while I'm sorting out some photos, and it's on random, and an old Beach Boys song came on... I started singing along, and then I started laughing, and almost crying; bar one or two words, it is just the THEME song of VJ... here are the lyrics; probably loads of you know it:

Wouldn't it be nice if we were older
Then we wouldn't have to wait so long
And wouldn't it be nice to live together
In the kind of world where we belong

You know it's gonna make it that much better
When we can say goodnight and stay together

Wouldn't it be nice if we could wake up
In the morning when the day is new
And after having spent the day together
Hold each other close the whole night through

Happy times together we've been spending
I wish that every kiss was neverending
Wouldn't it be nice

Maybe if we think and wish and hope and pray it might come true
Baby then there wouldn't be a single thing we couldn't do
We could be married
And then we'd be happy

Wouldn't it be nice...

You know it seems the more we talk about it
It only makes it worse to live without it
But let's talk about it
Wouldn't it be nice...

Very fitting for our situation! It's funny- i'd always thought of that song having to do with two teenagers who are in love and can't be together all the time, cuz they're still just kids.... Kinda makes this whole situation feel like the US government is our parents, and we're just the children...

Hmm. I just sent my lawyer an email asking for info on the date my I-129F arrived at VSC. They gave me the info, but then something i thought this crowd might find interesting... I'm sure you will all have an opinion about whether or not this is a good idea, but just take it for what it's worth. I asked her about finding information about this from USCIS, and she writes: "The more you badger (USCIS) the further down your petition goes to the end of the pile." Now, obviously not words out of the horse's (USCIS) mouth, but from someone that deals with them a lot, i think it's worth a moment of contemplation...

How is everyone going about the the whole planning a wedding with no definate date? I'm just wondering.

We are just doing a quick cheapish civil courthouse legal thing, doing AOS then saving up to maybe 18months later have a 'real' wedding celebration when my family should be able to visit from scotland too. Still getting a nice new dress for courthouse thing (red velvet) and still gonna make as much of a fuss as possible of course. It's not exactly how I pictured my dream wedding but I try to look on the bright side.....eventually I'll have had 2 and both to same man!

I like the idea of two "weddings" to the same man! And it's lovely that you'll get two weddings out of this! We'd thought we would have a big ceremony here (Maine,USA) so that my family could be involved, and the travellers in his family who want to visit the US could be involved too. Then we are going to have another wedding reception in the UK, for all the people who couldn't make it/afford to come to our US wedding. After our engagement on 7/07/07, we quickly started our wedding planning, and without realizing the possible setbacks our fiance visa could cause us, we secured a wedding ceremony and reception hall, for a non-refundable $2000 dollars. Brilliant. Fortunately for us, the people who own the hall are very understanding about our situation, so we now have a "sliding" date for our reservation. I just don't know how understanding they'll be if our fiance visa becomes one of the horror stories i've been reading about, and takes us YEARS to get. I'm not sure what led me to believe that this fiance visa process was a simple process! I'm certainly set straight now though, and expecting the worst (in hopes the USCIS will exceed my expectations).

I am endlessly impressed by how smoothly everyone here deals with this whole process... You're taking it in stride, and I only hope i can follow your example. As they say- a watched pot never boils, and up to this point i don't even have a pot to watch (NOA1 hasn't arrived yet)...

hi!

I'm new to this site, but so far I'm finding it very useful, and kinda addictive!... I hired a lawyer to help out with my I-129F (which i'm not sure i should have done, but we'll see)... and my lawyer sent out my I-129F on 7/27/07... I've never been very good at waiting, so this is torture. I guess I'm curious to see if anyone else has used a lawyer to help in this process. If so, how's that working out for ya? So far, I haven't had any problems, except for a little miscommunication. I hadn't been told that two of the processing centers were closing (and had been relying on the lawyer's info, rather than doing my own research), so I was still operating under the idea that this whole process would only take 3-4 months. Thus, I was attempting to plan a December wedding. My lawyer knew this, but obviously it didn't connect, because when i finally asked if they thought it was too "ambitious" of a plan, they said "yes, definitely", because now the process takes 5-7 months, and that's assuming all goes smoothly. Now I know not to trust the lawyer completely, and that I need to keep my eyes open. I'd be interested in hearing about your lawyer issues/situations, if you have any!

I like this site a lot so far- knowing we're not alone in this process makes me feel a lot better about our hurry-up and wait situation. Is anyone else in the midst of attempting to plan a wedding that has no definite date? That's one of the most frustrating parts... We could plan a beautiful wedding, have everything all set and ready to go, and then miss our wedding date because of Immigration. Yikes. But i suppose that's part of the game too, and flexibility is going to have to be the answer.

Anyways, just wanted to speak up, since i've been watching this topic awhile and hadn't really put in my two cents yet..

Take care, and here's hoping the rush of July applications springs VSC and CSC into action!

Got our medical exam date today-February 2nd!!! Can any UK people tell me whether your fiance's needed to bring their vaccination records to the medical? The embassy website says fiance visa people don't have to, but the medical people are saying yes. Any insight would be helpful.

Hi Steph-

my fiance just this minute got back from his medical in London. He asked the doctor about his vaccinations, and the doctor told him that the vaccinations aren't for the K-1 visa, they're for adjusting status later on. So although the vaccinations aren't necessary for the K-1 visa, you'll have to get them (or show proof of them) for the AOS part of the process. If you don't have all the necessary vaccinations yet, you can get your GP to do them (usually for free), have them print out a copy of the vaccinations that were done, have the doctor sign and stamp it, and then it's ready for the adjustment of status part of the process. Hope that helps!

THANK YOU! That is extremely helpful. Did he get his interview date? Now I am worried about how far out they schedule that. I don't want to wait anymore!

We don't have an interview date yet, because we're still waiting to get back our police certificate. Don't want to send off the completed checklist until we have all our ducks in a row! Right now it looks like London isn't scheduling them that far out, or at least as far as I can tell they aren't. On the London embassy interview thread, I think the furthest they are scheduled right now is 2/14/08 (obviously this is only info compiled from the VJ people that have found that particular thread!)

@Mirla- my fiance had his shots done too, but his surgery lost the record of it. He's got some basic info from his childhood, saying he had the initial shots. Now he'll have to get the booster shots that are required for the US. Check with your doctor (or whomever might have given the shots) to see if they have any kind of record, and if you can get the basic record, you will just need boosters. I'm not sure what they'll want you to do if you can't find any record of your shots.... good luck! glad to see you've finally got the NOA2!!! kicking.gif

QUOTE (lhamilt @ Jun 20 2008, 06:25 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hello All,

About 10 calendar days after submitting my I-129F package, I saw that my check was cashed. Do you typically receive the 1st NOA before or after this happens?

Thanks!
Lydia

You will probably receive the NOA1 in a few days to a week usually....

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionNational Identification Number - Germany
Maybe the number of your passport or your identification card?

They are probably not asking for your "Sozialversicherungsnummer" since that is not used for the purpose of identification. I'd call them if you have the time to deal with it (number is on the embassy page; they don't answer for about 20 minutes if at all).

Thanks for your reply, Anja and Henry. I can't really make it a day early because that would mean I'd lose another day at work, and I'd have to to spend another day at a hotel (takes 7 hours to get there from where I live, no ICE-service up here).

Called the consulate and they said no problem about the missing documents. I can send them in later. They seem to be cool, which is awesome! :)

I just received word that my IR-1 interview is next Friday. Now, I'm wondering about how to proceed with the medical exam. The letter states that I can do it on the day of the interview; however, the appointed time is 0.00 which is impossible given that the doctor's office is closed. Would I have to make an appointment or can I do the medical as a walk-in?

Also, any experiences concerning missing documents would be helpful. I'm not sure I can collect everything in a week.

Finally, what is the best way to get in touch with the consulate?

Here's a link to the current form at the state department. You should only need the first two pages because Part 2 (pp 3-4) should be in package 4. Not too sure if you can send in paperwork for your K2-child, though. Shouldn't he/she receive his/her own package 3?
