K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsWell, this is not good news.
Difficult news to receive the day before the interview.....I will say a prayer for you both that this turns out to be nothing more than a benign (harmless) cyst or something else of little significance. I work for a physician and we see things all the time like this; a good percentage of the time they end up being nothing to worry about. I will send positive thoughts your way for a good report.....

On a more "clerical" note, isn't something like this a good reason for folks to try to get their medical scheduled a few weeks ahead of the interview? I thought that in general you shouldn't try to schedule the medical the day before or the same day as the interview. (although I realize that the OP may have had extenuating circumstances for needing to do it this way....) Maybe this situation reminds that it is best to have it done and out of the way ahead of time so that no stressful "surprises" crop up......

However, the bottom line is that I truly hope things turn out ok for your fiancee'. Hang in there.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reports3 years now
Oh, Sandra, I want to start by first wishing you a happy anniversary date, although it must be a bittersweet day for you and Ahmed. I hope that you are able to reminisce today about the happy times that you have shared over the last 3 years, because I am sure there must be many of them. Hopefully you can take some comfort from them, and in your love for each other, which must stay strong to help you through these hard times.

I read your review of the interview a year ago, and I can tell you that my heart is breaking for you. I don't know what I will do or feel if we do not succeed at our interview on Thursday, but reading your words made me feel the sadness and disappointment that came out of that experience for you and Ahmed. I hope that you are pushing on in the process, and that there will be some way that you can be together in the future. Remember that true love "bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends." Be blessed as you continue your journey with your love, Sandra.

All the best,
~Beth

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsVisa denied!
Thanks, Golden Gate! I couldn't readily find it while I was at work but had it bookmarked on my home computer.

Is it just me, or does Casa not seem to follow those guidelines, especially in the cases where visas are denied?? It seems that many of the stories our Moroccan loved ones tell after the interviews are the same: the consulate employees are rude, abrupt, intimidating.....it seems very discriminatory to me, and certainly not in keeping with their stated Customer Service policy. Yeah, my feathers are ruffled. I guess it's like a mama bear feeling that instinct of protectiveness for everyone who has to deal with the bull%#&@ in Casa....

Hey Cat!

I'm so happy for you and Louis. Was his POE in PR? How did it go? PR is going to be Sheridan's POE.

BTW, I missed my connectiion from PR to LAX yesterday, pilots were late from SLU.....I had to fly to Boston and SFO. It was needless to say, a very looooong trip home! LOL

Congratulations again!!! kicking.gif

Louis flew from Hewanorra to Charlotte and then to NH. So he didnt have to go to PR.
Immigration was a breeze... 20 minutes he said.

Glad you made it home safe... time to get ready for Sheridan! YAY!

My fiance will be arriving into NH Saturday night on his K-1 Visa. kicking.gif

He will be connecting through Charlotte NC. I didnt see any reviews for this POE. Anyone have experience with CLT? I have been through the airport but did not have to deal with immigrattion.

Also, just to be sure, all he needs is the sealed envelope and Passport/Visa (of course). Is there anything else he needs that I am forgetting?

Thanks all for the help/advice.

Oh Thanks! Actually I was worried about him just getting through and on to his next flight! LOL
I didn't even think that far ahead.. but now I will understand.

Well I hadn't thought that far ahead either, and since Stephen hate's flying, I was trying to shorten the number of flights we went on. It's not a huge problem, but just frustrating that they don't all operate under the same guidelines ... Charlotte does handle more international flights than Raleigh, so maybe it will go faster smile.gif

And I've only flown through Charlotte on domestic flights, but they seem to be better organized than Raleigh, so hopefully immigration won't take too long. How much time does he have for layover?

About 2 1/2 hours. If he misses - he misses. I would just feel a little bad for him. :-)

That should be plenty of time ... we got through RDU immigration (and we were the last people in line because we were at the back of the plane coming from Europe -- so over around 200 people), and we got through in less than 1 hour.

Oh Good. He wont have any checked bags. That could be good or bad... Good he doesnt have to wait for baggage etc but sometimes it looks suspicious with only a carryon. Well we shall see...

:-)

Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! smile.gif So happy for both of you ....

Side note - you asked about Charlotte ... Stephen entered at Raleigh-Durham airport -- there weren't any reviews for POE either. But I can tell you, Charlotte and Raleigh being "smaller" airports, they don't get as many visa entries as say, JFK, Newark, etc. We've found it's taking longer for Stephen to get into the SAVE system (system which allows him to get a SSN, etc). So be aware, it may take longer than 2 weeks, or it may not. As I've lived 20 years in NC, they are a slower state in processing paperwork ... but I wish you both best of luck, and hopefully a quicker experience than we've had (We went to the customs & border patrol office at Raleigh-Durham this morning to find out why his I-94 isn't in the system yet, and they re-submitted one today, so we have to wait another 1-2 weeks to try for SSN again!)

Here's hoping everything goes smoothly for the two of you!!!!

Hey Courtney - I saw your post about visiting the UK. Not sure if you will be permitted to enter, but it sounds like you have a lot of proof tying you to the US. Just be confident and polite. I hope it goes well!!

I'm visiting in Jan with my 8 y/o daughter and am already freaking out if they will admit us. Never had probs before, but adding a kid to the mix makes me nervous. Good news is I have 2 other kids, a full time job, mortgage, etc. to come back to, so I think it will be OK.

Fingers crossed for both of us!!!

Why would she not be permitted to enter UK. As far as I know, every American with a passport may enter at anytime. Been there several times. Maybe I'm missing something?

Ahh, my sordid past... Back in Feb '08 I was denied entry to the UK. I didn't have a return ticket to the US, and i couldn't prove strong ties to the US (so i got to hang out in a detainment room for 8 hours. good times). So i'm going back to the UK this friday, just for a short vacation, and have lots of proof that I will be coming back to the US... but still, i'm terrified. I know the worst that can happen is that i'm sent back to the US, but that truly will be awful.

I didn't mean "back in Feb '08", obviously, since we're not there yet... Back in FEB '07 would be more correct. I need to learn how to use the Edit button whistling.gif

So, this was 8 months ago? Did they tell you the exact reason for turning you away was because you had no proof of returning? Like if you had a roundtrip ticket there would have been no problems? Just curious, that's all.

I got a little handy list of all the reasons I was refused entry.
1. I stayed in the UK as a visitor from September 2006 to February 2007, a period of 5 months
2. I only returned to America 2 weeks ago (from 2/25/07) for a medical appointment.
3. I had no return ticket
4. I previously entered the UK from Eire and consequently only had leave to enter for 3 months.
5. I left my job to travel to the UK in September and was at the time, not employed.

I wrote that almost verbatim from the document I recieved at the end of that terrible day. A little repetitive, no? But reason enough to deny me entry I suppose. I think the girl was pretty new to the immigration job. She had to do a lot of re-asking questions, and there was one point I was pretty convinced she was crazy. She kept saying "july" instead of "june" as the day I met my fiance online. She said it about 10 times, and I corrected her every time. I think she must have been trying to trip me up. It wouldn't have taken much at that point- 8 hour flight after about 15 hours of travelling, and then sitting me (terrified) in a detainment room with little to no sleep in 24 hours... It was rough. I think i've blocked out most of it.

Whoa. Well, I kinda have to agree with the UK. Sorry to say that. But if you were there for that long and even left your job to live in the UK, they must have viewed you as an illegal immigrant. And maybe even USCIS will have some questions about this. They really want each petitioner to be a productive, responsible provider for the "new arrival". Not saying that you're not. but it may raise questions. Hmmm. I really wish you the best of luck. I know you say each trip is judged on it's own merit, but I'm sure they will have questions for you. I would even consider calling the UK embassy here in the States and double check that everything will be fine.

Thanks, I may just do that. I'm not worried about being seen as a productive and responsible provider- i've been steadily employed at a good paying job since i left the UK. And I was steadily employed up til the day I went to the UK. I paid my own way in the UK, and am not worried about how I'll be viewed to the US embassy. It's the UK i'm worried about at this point.

I think about this a lot. I think I've decided that even if i had the return ticket, I'd still have been denied entry. This is my thought- there must be some kind of quota to fill... I 'm not saying that I shouldn't have been denied entry- but the US must deny entry to a certain amount of UK visitors. So I just helped fill a quota (i like to think this, so please don't pop my bubble). I read somewhere that there's a "reciprocal" policy. The UK deals with visitors from the US in the same way that the US deals with visitors from the UK. Maybe if the US denies so many UK visitors a year, the UK needs to reciprocate, or vice versa. And since my case was pretty clearly stupid- i had "overstayed" my visa (did you know that if you go thru Ireland to get to England you only have a three month stay as a visitor? I didn't know this), they decided to refuse my entry. I truly don't think the lady in immigration thought I was going to try to live there. She was even (at one point, when my head was on the table during my questioning) trying to lead me to the "right" answers. She said "Are you SURE you were'nt just taking leave from your job in the US?". Wish I'd thought to say yes (although it wasn't true, and I was too exhausted at that point to lie).

Good luck to you as well! Throwing a child in there really does make things all that much more stressful. I hope you have no troubles at all, and I'll keep my fingers crossed for you too:) I'm not sure if i'll get in either... But, he has a friend in immigration who says that each visit is evaluated on its' own merit. Just because the circumstances 7 months ago had my entry refused, doesn't mean it will happen this time too. I've been running around tonight looking for more "evidence" that i'm coming back to this place after a weeks vacation! I'm WIRED! I may never sleep again! unsure.gif

It was a mistake then. Someone mistakingly placed that file in the wrong box. Or maybe adjudicators do it for kicks.... knowing how it would drive others crazy! devil.gif

Hey Courtney - your wedding date is supposed to be 08 right? We have the same one kicking.gif

I have been silently reading alot...I am SO excited that this part of the journey could be over in a matter of weeks for some of us! Best wishes to everyone as we get through this final leg of being apart from our loves.

blush.gif oops, you're right- it should be '08! That will be a very good day I'm sure! It's also the anniversary of my future in-laws- has proven to be a very good wedding date in the past!

It seems like you're well on your way to getting an interview date! We're not quite at that point yet, but we're hoping if all goes well, we'll have one by the end of January.... I'm sure you will have no trouble getting your visa in time! kicking.gif

Jeraly - just read your last wedding post, is your 'non-legal' wedding in the UK?? Why did I think you were coming to the states for the wedding and then going back?? or am I totally confused? or are you doing one in both places and then the vegas thing?

Ahhh! Missed you!!! biggrin.gif Glad you had a lovely time and gratzies on the packet 3!!!

You're right - I am having a non-legal wedding in the US next month, then when I get back we will have an evening reception in the UK at the end of June then we will fly out and do the Vegas thing - it's all very complicated and I am contemplating tattooing my plans across my forehead as I keep repeating myself over and over and I think I am confusing everyone laughing.gif Maybe I'll wait 'til after I get back from the US next month before I go for the tattoo option though... laughing.gif

That sounds fabulous!! You both deserve a nice honeymoon in Hawaii after all this ####### (immigration in general), heck we all do lol! It's getting down to the wire, you've got to be so excited! A while back when you said you weren't concerned about your petition getting approved and that your wedding was in February I thought you meant NEXT February. I can't believe you were so calm about it. I'd have been freaking out. Congratulations to you both and goo dluck with all the planning.

Lol - oh no - I meant this Feb... seriously - I was freaking out a lot at the beginning but once we realised there was a *very* slim chance we would get the visa in time we looked at all our other options. Wedding was booked in April last year when processing times were 6-7 months and the whole backlog mess along with a four week delay because of the lame postal service meant we filed when we did - if it hadn't been for the ####### up with the post we would be June filers and everything would have probably gone according to plan...

BUT!!! It has taught me how to be calm and versatile and address all our options. As my family had already booked tickets, we had booked the wedding, paid deposits etc, it was going to cost us thousands to cancel. We contemplated cancelling the K-1 and going down the K-3/CR-1 route. We contemplated cancelling the wedding and trying to afford reimbursing everyone... there are so many things we considered that all told we decided that the best things was to make sure we had a non-legal wedding and hope I get through immigration.

Personally I can't see it being too much of a problem - they won't know I am applying for a visa, I have no intention of overstaying my welcome or doing anything that would breach the visa conditions, all they need to know is that I am entering the US to go on holiday and that I am going to see my OH for his birthday/Valentine's/my birthday smile.gif If they ask questions then I will tell them - I just don't mention "non-legal wedding" because let's face it - it sounds dodgy as hell even if it isn't!!!

So yeah - there's our visa story in a nutshell!! In a way it is nice because we can have that little while longer to save for a place to live and we know when I am going to be coming out so we can plan things a bit better - I can also be here for my mum's 50th birthday smile.gif

Just Immigration to face and I will be fine... wacko.gif unsure.gif whistling.gif

Hey Jeraly... I've been thinking about you and your non-legal wedding and just had some thoughts to run by you... although i'm sure you've fully thought this through- but.... just in case you haven't......
When you come thru in February, will you have all your "wedding gear" with you? Because if they are suspicious of you at all, they'll go through your stuff... And a white dress and wedding rings sorta gives it away, even if it is a non-legal wedding, it will be cause for concern on their part. Will you be sending your wedding dress and rings etc ahead of time? Just a thought, in case you do get caught up at immigration...
