quick question you guys!
for the Affidavit of Support form, where exactly can I get it notarized exactly I think I read somewhere you can at a bank? could I just bring it to my bank? or would have to go some special place?
Wanted to do this all Friday so if I could get responses soon it would be great smile.gif

The bank would work, and if it is your bank they probably wont charge.
Call them and check, otherwise just look up Notary Public in the phone book.

Hello Everyone! Hope all are well! I was just reading through and it looks like people are getting interviews scheduled! That is so exciting!

Well my Louis never got the Packet 3 but the Embassy in Barbados said we could just download files and send them in. They received the package yesterday and I e-mailed them just to let them know. Hopefully I will hear back today with some news.

I am so excited! He will be here soon - I KNOW IT!

My daughter and I are going to St Lucia next week for about 17 days or so, can't wait to see Louis...and have some fun in the sun! Woo! I am hoping he gets interview while I am there. Not sure I can go to Barbados with him but he will be fine on his own. :-)

Have a great day all.....

I'm going to miss French bread crying.gif
And also the chocolate doesn't look as good in the US. But French bread is going to be the worst part crying.gif

Breadfruit is like white potato - sort of. Not a fruit at all. :-)

You can find good chocolate at specialty places.. I love dark chocolate. Chocoholic!

Mawnin Irie I got the NOA2....Breadfruit with ackee and saltfish is DELICIOUS. You can boil, fry or roast the breadfruit

Oh I am so happy for you!!! I was thinking about you and wondering if you got it!!!! Yeah! Celebrating this weekend I am sure!! Wahoo!!

When Alex came to visit I sent him home with a bag stuffed full of British foods - mince pies, a Christmas pudding, chocolate digestives, tea, etc. - and a big bottle of Heinz salad cream.

Unfortunately I packed it in his hand luggage without thinking - of course it counts as a liquid. It was confiscated at the airport - big, unopened bottle of salad cream. crying.gif

Oh well. I managed to bring some through with me when I visited the next year. I just made sure to pack it in my hold luggage this time!

I'm going to miss condensed milk and golden syrup - or am I? They're key ingredients in the most delicious recipes (i.e. chocolate caramel shortbread) but I suppose I may have a better diet this way.

I know you can get condensed milk and golden syrup here.. they use alot in St Lucia (lots of British products there) and I have seen in my local grocery stores... We have some good stores here in Maine. I am sure you can find things.
:-)

Now for me I would love to find some good salt fish and breadfruit! LOL

Oh my what it is that lol

Saltfish is just that - Salty Fish!! laughing.gif Most people don't like (here in states anyway) But I grew to love it!
Breadfruit is a big round starchy veggie... I loved that too.
I guess I dont really need either in my diet!! LOL

Hello everyone and congratulations on all the great news on the board!

How are the packet 3s sent? I e-mailed Barbados (who are very helpful, knock on wood) and they advised they sent Louis the Packet 3 on the 14th. It is going from Barbardos to St Lucia and you would think that would not take but a day and still nothing. I thought it went DHL but am I mistaken?
They may have sent by dolphin or something! LOL

It took about a week and a half for Darren to get packet 3...not sure how things work in the islands, though...

Hopefully it will get to him in the next few days...have you started to work on the forms needed yet? Darren and I did, and it was only a few days until we sent it back...

Yes I have all the paperwork in a nice neat and organized binder. I am not sending it to him though. It could cost me $100 and then it still could get lost. I am going to St Lucia on April 17th so I am bringing it with me. Also asking Barbados to schedule the interview during that time.

The Embassy told me they mailed to him on the 14th, I will be patient! whistling.gif

Hey everyone..

So we manufactured our own packet 3 from the Germany Embassy website.....We sent it on Monday to his parents, and they'll confirm our case number in the packet, and double check we included everything and send it on to the embassy!

It looks like Germany schedules interviews about 1 month after you return packet 3.... Our case is on it's way to the embassy! If all goes well, we will be getting married Memorial Day Weekend!

That's exactly what I plan to do in Kiev - someone else did this same thing and called the embassy when they believed that the packet had been received there. The first call they said they were working on it. The second call the person slipped in to an interview slot only one week later - so there's a chance that your process will be even faster than you think. Best of Luck to you, I'll be watching to see how it all turns out.

I have just done the same thing also. Mail is not reliable at all in the caribbean. We just filled out the papers and he is off to DHL to mail to Barbados. What a pain in the butt! I feel like I need a degree in confusing paperwork to get it all done.
I will be going to see him next month and will bring the binder with everything he could possibly need. The only bad thing that could happen would be if he got the interview date before I arrive to St Lucia!! I am so glad I am flying down because I am afraid he would never get the package of stuff I would need to send him and then we would really be screwed!!!

Good luck to all!!

EVERYTHING IS GOING SO FAST!

I got my NOA2 e-mail on February 29th. I called the VSC yesterday - they already had it and sent it to Barbados! Barbados got it today!

I found out I dont have to wait for Packet 3 .. apparently things tend to get lost in the mail in the Caribbean! This I know because I have never received sent letters from my Louis.

So if I am lucky he may have an interview soon after I go to St Lucia in 36 DAYS!! And be in Maine before too long, but lucky for him, after the snow melts!!

If all works well with the e-file I will be sure to let all know.

Also I have e-mailed Barbados 2 times and they have answered within 24 hours. Pretty good I must say!

I hope everyone is getting their NOA2s in record time!

Peace and Blessings to all.

Irie!!!

Guess everyone's gone quiet....

Question:

If it was as easy to find work in the non-US country, would you live there?

It would be hard for me...I am very close to my parents and love my job here, but I would find it very interesting to live in the UK...

I would go in a second. Like I said before I love to move. I would have stayed in St Lucia forever but I didn't much like the schools there and my daughter was about to start Kindergarten. I will go back one day. If Louis doesn't like cold Maine (I sure don't) we will find warmer climates for sure...in this country or the next!

I hardly ever talk to anyone at work!

But that's the way I like it. I work best with no distractions - no music, gossip or background noise.

I think I would find it hard being in the house, though. I'd have to have a very clearly delineated 'office' space.

My office space is the living room but I do get alot of work done. After spending 6 months in St Lucia (essentially homeless in the USA) I came back to a 1 bedroom apartment I share with my daughter. Its ok though I like it and its a great school system but I had to take what I could get (or what my aunt got for me while I was gone). I am one of those people that like to move - I keep minimum things and I am lucky my daughter takes after me. When my Louis gets here we will find a 2 bedroom or eventually buy a house but he is used to sharing also and my 1 bedroom apartment will be a mansion to what he is used to!
Oh and even though I telework .. there is still juicy office gossip! LOL Can't live without it. I work for a small company and we are like a family - but like a family that is always in each others business ... Its a good thing we all like each other!!

Although it can be boring with no adults to talk to throughout the day and the kitchen so close!! LOL

I guess everything has its pros and cons!!

I agree too. I wish I could keep all my vacation days, and be able to have several months of maternity leave before and after my children's birth!

I consider myself very blessed. When I had my daughter 6 years ago I was living in VA, I wanted to come back to Maine to raise my daughter and my boss would not let me quit. I have been "teleworking" ever since. I think it is becoming very popular in the states. I dont have to buy work clothing, or pay for a commute to work.
If my daughter is sick I am home...If I am sick I dont really have to call in (unless I am so sick I need to stay in bed and even then I can bring the laptop to bed!)I also have about 6 weeks of "paid time off", and can use for whatever reason I want. I do tend to work more than I would if I were going to an office from 9-5 but I am also able to travel and not take time off. As long as I have an internet connection and I can work.

This is the whole reason I was able to stay in St Lucia for 6 months and meet my Sweetie! :-)

Teachers can certainly have a rough time here. Not just from the children, but also children's parents! There are few rights for teachers and you do hear some horror stories, and to be a good teacher you really have to have an extremely strong personality. It takes a special person to be a teacher; I could certainly never do it! Of course, I don't think everyone is cut out to be a teacher no matter how angelic the children are, but it seems a shame that unruly kids are almost expected at schools.

However, what my teacher friends/relatives have found the hardest is the sheer amount of paperwork and bureaucracy...I don't know how it is in the US, but it's almost impossible to do anything without first filling in a bunch of forms! My aunt taught special needs for several years before having her own children, and after her children were old enough to attend school themselves she tried going back to work - but in that short amount of time the paperwork had more than tripled. You can't lay a finger on a child - even if it's to help them, i.e. with a cut - without first filing a report.

Reason why I no longer belong to the PTA. I have a lot of friends that have tried (especially in D.C. and Baltimore schools) and decided to change careers. She said she could no longer deal with the parents. It's bad enough when the kids are disrespectful, but when the parents start to act the same, it's too much to deal with. Imagine being PUSH and SLAPPED by a parent in front of your students. That was the last straw for my friend! Some students really want to learn, but some parents want the TEACHERS to parent their child (and that's not going to work). She has since returned to Jamaica, because it was too much to deal with after 15 years. I don't care how bad the situation is...a PARENT has no right to put their hands on a TEACHER, because the teacher failed the student. They need to CHECK themselves mad.gif

My best friend is a DC public school teacher and I get to hear all the stories! She even worked at Choice (where the kids who get kicked out of school go) .. It feels hopeless when the parents are worse than the kids!! She has been a teacher for 11 years and I can tell she gets more discouraged every year!

Here in Maine my daughter is so lucky... great school and great teachers!! I am blessed to have wound up in this town. I may not like it much as its not very diverse but the school system is amazing!!

I hear you Irie,

I work in D.C. everyday and I use to take the metro, but the kids are some DAMNNNN unrully it's not even funny. So, I started to drive in. They would be on the train spiting paper at each other. And now a days you really don't want to get into it with a group of school aged children, but I had to say something. The kept spitting paper and it was hitting other people who said nothing. So, I had to push the emergency button. I told them I will KNOCK them the HELL back from where they came from if they got into my face. Metro police escorted them from the train and out of the station. It's just a sad state.

You go! I would love to have been on the metro with you!!! :-)
I used to take the metro everyday to work and always had a new "crazy person on the train" story!! :-)

well I can tell you that you have to go to a notary public to get it notarized. My aunt is one so it works for me! :-) Anyhow most offices have someone that is a notary or you can look one up in the phone book. I dont think they charge much of a fee. They just ask you if everything on the document is the truth (to your knowlege) and stamp and sign it.

If it easier for your manager to write the letter then I would say that would be fine. If it is notarized it makes it a legal document. Just make sure it is on some kind of CVS letterhead...

Hope that helps. :-)

So on a positive note.. what's everyone thinking for a wedding? I got my dress last month and it takes me everything not to try it on everyday smile.gif

Don't have the dress yet ... nor his kilt. Yes, we are doing a traditional Scottish wedding (kilts, bagpipes, and all). Actually having the ceremony on a terrace overlooking a lake, and the reception on the same property that night (open bar party!! wooohoo!). I think we've managed to get all the details figured out for the reception, and we just have the vows and scottish traditions to figure out for the actual ceremony. I looked at dresses online, but I think I'll hit the actual shops in April/May.

That sounds so nice - I come from a Scottish background but I dont see Louis in a kilt!! Skinny rasta in a kilt! LOL

We will all have to post pictures after the big events!!!!

Oh I think about my wedding all the time. The day to celebrate the rest of our lives!
Summer wedding on the beach in Maine... sunset.
Basically a beach party with a little wedding in between!
A little Rasta..a little hippie and a whole lotta love! Woo Hoo!

I keep seeing the problems people have with getting police records and I feel like we have done something wrong. I thought we needed it sooner so I already sent Louis to get his. It cost $2 and took 1 week! I guess it is just the benefit of a tiny island!

This is so great! congrats to all approved! I swear I have no fingernails left - I am so anxious!!
Has anyone taken notice what countries the SO are from? Do you think that matters - I mean I have heard it doesnt really matter but I can't help but think it does.
I am so happy for you all - celebrate!!!!

Well I imagine what country does play into it somehow!! But to what extent I'm not sure.

I've still got my fingernails, but I'm so very anxious too!!!

Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeee smile.gif If not today for us waiting, maybe March will be a very, very, very good month

Yes! March would be great... my daughter's birthday is the 20th so it would be a great gift for her. She misses Louis as much as I do and wants him for her birthday!

wooooooo!!!!

like so where it says petition for fiance it would be pending?

If we are looking at the same thing... click on your Receipt # and it will say "CURRENT STATUS:CASE RECEIVED AND PENDING".
That would change ... like if we get an RFE or it is approved.
Does that work for you?

your know how u get touches how do you know if the touch was a noa2? do you get an email or is it just show it on ur case file thats pending? i don;t know where I would look if i ever got one! tongue.gif

I am pretty sure if you were getting an NOA2 the status would change from "pending" to "approved" or something like that.
Hopefully we will all be getting that notification soon!

ok I want one too!! :-) I think it shows they are working on it, so whether you get an RFE or not it means someone has it in there hands. Everytime someone goes through the paperwork they have to log it and that is where the "touch" comes from!!

Hi!

I had:

passport stamps
Plane ticket receipt
pictures of us in St Lucia, including my daughter and SO
Receipt from apartment
Receipt from daughter's school
HUGE phone bills
Phone card receipts
Oh and a copy of my St Lucia driver's license

I have a positive outlook on this but also am thinking I will get an RFE for something. I cut off International calling from my phone (bill was out of control!) so for future proof I have set him up with an e-mail account and we have written each other a few letters. I only use a calling card now so it is hard to say who I am calling only that I am using the card. We wrote each other letters 2 weeks ago and neither have received.. St Lucian mail is iffy! :-)

I guess if I dont have enough proof of relationship both my mom, aunt and his mother and friends will write affidavits. It will just set us back a week or so. In the long run the week or too will be nothing.

Good luck and speedy NOA2s to all!!

:-)

Have you tried using Skype? They kept the history of calls and SMS. Or have you tried using Gmail talk? Like Skype, they also archieved all the conversations.

I have Skype and use it daily for work etc... I telework. However. the only place Louis can use e-mail is at work. His home doesn't even have running water and electricity isn't reliable. :-) He wouldn't be able to use all the "extras" at work. I am lucky if I get a couple e-mails a week from him. We talk on the phone about 3 times a day though - I just need the "paper" for proof. I am sure it will all be fine though.

Oh and trying to teach him how to use e-mail over the phone - hahaha! That was funny! Poor guy! He can't wait to get here and take some computer classes - he knows you have to have that skill here in the US.

Sorry guys.. sometimes my obsession gets the best of me.. forgive me, I'm an engineer so I had to crunch some numbers..

Mind you this, this data is ONLY from visajourney database.....and ONLY for Vermont Service Center

On VJ, 70 applicants have applied for K1, of those 70, 25 have reported receiving their NOA2. The last shown date was someone who filed 10/23/07..

With this in mind, there were 38 November filers, 38 December filers, and 46 January filers...

Hopefully logic will hold and there were less applications in November and December and we can move on rather quickly!

Hey thats great! We can all keep are fingers crossed! :-)
