Middle East and North AfricaResearched: Quick delivery methods to Morocco
Hi everyone....

A few weeks ago I asked for suggestions about the quickest and most reliable way to send something to Morocco. I wanted to report back on what I found out, in case anyone else is in need of sending something to their SO.

DHL was not the bargain I thought it would turn out to be. They do NOT deliver door-to-door, so Salim would have had to go to Rabat to pick up the envelope. At the time I did not know exactly how much the mailer would weigh that I planned to send, so the rep I spoke to just informed me that there is a 5 lb. limit on documents mailed to Morocco, and for the whole 5 lb. it would have cost me $212.07 and would have taken 5 calendar days.

Next was FEDEX: Before I called, I weighed the stuff I needed to send, and came up with 2 lb. 6 oz. Fedex, like most companies, charges rates on a system of "no more than X (1, 2, 3, 4, etc.) pounds", and I was quoted at the 3 lb. rate of $139.15 with a 5 calendar day delivery time. I was told they do deliver to the door and tracking is available.

UPS was the worst, coming in at a whopping $284.82, door-to-door delivery, with tracking. They promised delivery in 5 BUSINESS days.

The best deal was surprisingly the US Post Office by using their "Global Express Guaranteed" service. It cost me $132.30 (discounted 10% because I paid online instead of at the post office, which would have been $147.00), it was guaranteed in 1-3 business days, and they provided tracking, something that UPS told me USPS doesn't provide on overseas delivery. I mailed it on a Tuesday, and Salim had it on Friday. The only bone of contention for me about this method was that I was told it would be delivered to his home, but on Friday he received a call to come to the bus station in his town, as it came into town from Casablanca on a bus. LOL I will be going into the post office tomorrow to have them clarify that point for me, because my understanding was that it was door-to-door delivery. Hmmmmm .... maybe they'll give me a little rebate on the postage?? It can't hurt to ask.....

If anyone is interested, I've provided the link to the USPS page for Global Express Guaranteed. There is a calculator there that you can use to figure out how much your package or envelope would cost to send:

http://www.usps.com/...sguaranteed.htm

Of course, planning WAY ahead is the most cost-efficient way to send something to Morocco, as they get you coming and going if you need it there in a jiffy. And if it's not something critical (like interview documents!!), regular post at bargain prices is quite sufficient.

Hope this is helpful to anyone who, like me, had no idea where to begin when looking for a fast and guaranteed way to send something to my fiance'. Thanks to all who made suggestions when I asked, they gave me my starting point. :)

Take care, everyone!!

~Beth

p.s. You'll probably get sick of hearing from me by the end of the week.....our interview is Thursday, just like Sandrasellam and Gugusitolindo. Our little trio is keeping fingers crossed, so any extras that you can cross for us all would be really appreciated!!! THANKS!!!!!

Middle East and North AfricaPicking up the Visa Tomorrow!

Abdslam also got the call today to pick up his visa tomorrow at 3:00 pm! We're both soooooo happy they didn't take too long to call him! Now, we're looking into airfare to get him over here ASAP! Any suggestions on cheap flights from Morocco?

Congratulations on a quick turnaround time for your visa!! I would check farecrawler.com for some one-way flights to the U.S.....I found some for under $1000, although they did involve 2 stops. (The more stops, the less expensive the fare!) I hope we have a need for a flight over soon as well! We wish you much happiness as you begin your new life together.

All the best,

Middle East and North AfricaInterview now less than 24 hours away....
Salam to all.....

Today my fiance' Salim is traveling to Casablanca for his interview tomorrow morning for our K-1 visa. Please pray for us, and especially for him, that he feels peace and strength during the interview. I feel quite humble asking for your prayers, because I know that there are many, many Moroccan/American couples who have been waiting a long time to be together, and our journey began just 5 months ago when we filed our I129-F. But please know that I include in my prayers all of you who are waiting and fighting for your right to be together as well. May we all soon hear those two little words that mean so much...."You're Approved!"

Thank you all so much for your support.

Fondly,

~Beth & Salim

Middle East and North AfricaWAKE UP!!!

YAY for teachers!! I truly enjoy working with the little ones day in and day out. It really is such a rewarding job!!!

I agree!! Salim is a teacher and I am hoping he will be able to find work in education once he gets here. Anyone have any experience with their SO coming to the U.S. and working in the education field? I'd be very interested to hear any stories.....:)

Middle East and North AfricaMaybe two days late....but still delivered

I didn't send anything...we talked on the phone and then I stayed as busy as possible the rest of the day. I did my best to forget what day it was.
We will make up for the missed time...Hopefully soon!

I did pretty much the same thing. Our visa was in hand on February 5th and I was hoping he'd have been here for Valentine's Day, but we couldn't arrange it. So I tried to swallow the lump in my throat and remind myself that once he is here (looks like it'll be March 6th), we'll try to make EVERY day Valentine's Day......

Ahhhhh, the weekend!!! What a week it's been, but only a few more hours until quittin' time! Our good news this week is that we got Salim's plane ticket, he will be here on Saturday March 6th, insha'allah!!! POE: Boston. The long wait will be over, hooray!!!! :joy:

Middle East and North AfricaWedding...
Oh my gosh, how stressful!! But once you get over the shock, put on your thinking cap and attack the situation from a "troubleshooting" perspective. If you can remove the emotion from things, I'll bet you'll be able to negotiate some kind of compromise with the woman who owns the venue. Someone else mentioned a shared event, which might work depending on what time of day you had planned to be married. If they want morning or afternoon, could you do an evening wedding? You also might be able to barter this mishap to your advantage, because the owner will very likely want to make amends for the "confusion". You could end up still having the venue at a considerable savings!

And if all else fails and you have to find another location, try to keep an open mind. Sometimes doors close and windows open for a reason! But no matter what, GOOD LUCK in working out the details, and enjoy your reunion with Bijad this Saturday!! (Salim arrives one week later, on the 6th, so I am sharing in your excitement!!)

Keep your chin up, Teresa...everything will work out the way it's supposed to.....

Middle East and North Africakept his passport...
I think you can start to relax Kim, and at least LOOK at prices for plane tickets!!! At Salim's interview they kept his passport and gave him the blue slip as well, and called him one week later to come and pick up the visa. I am SOOO happy to hear of this development for you, try to be patient a little while longer and I think you will be rewarded! WooooHoooooo!!!!

Middle East and North AfricaWhere / how did you buy your recent tickets for travel to Morocco?
We recently found a well-priced one-way ticket from Morocco to Boston on Alitalia. I had never considered this airline before, nor had it come up on the search engines I had used for pricing tickets. But during a recent search on (I think) Orbitz.com, a decent fare with Alitalia popped up. I checked their site directly and found I could get it for about $20.00 less than the clearinghouse site, and we bought it for Salim. It is a one-stop flight from Casablanca through Rome and then on to Boston for $663.00. I was pretty psyched when we found it because most of the other one-way tickets were averaging AT LEAST $800.00. It might be worthwhile to check Alitalia's website directly, just like it often is on other airlines. I also called them to make sure I was getting the absolute lowest price because someone had recently told me they got an even lower fare when they CALLED the airline instead of booking online.

Good luck to everyone travelling to or from Morocco, especially those who are booking their one-ways for their loves to come and join them for the first time. Mine will be here this Saturday, insha'allah.....WOOOOOO HOOOOOOO!!!!

Good afternoon to everyone!

It DOES seem to have been a little quiet around here lately, maybe the late winter doldrums have taken their tolls! lol Ah, but spring is just around the corner, and I am jealous of those who have already gotten a taste of it. I'm ESPECIALLY jealous of Sara enjoying 70-degree temps in Casablanca....and by the way, what a precious picture of Fatimah lounging on her babba!!

Anyway, just finishing up the final touches in preparation for Salim's arrival this Saturday, insha'allah!!! Do you think 4 drawers and 2 feet of closet space is enough for him??? LOL Being a girl, it's REALLY hard to sacrifice closet space, you know. Those shoes have to live somewhere!!!!

Hope everyone has a great weekend and I send my best wishes to all those preparing for interviews....

Middle East and North AfricaEaster Sunday
Happy Easter to all. Should be an intersting day in a Muslim/Christian household. LOL There has been a lot of animated discussion this week about the holiday, lots of food for thought. Will probably be the most "disputed" holiday on the Christian calendar. ("Disputed" is probably too strong a word, but for lack of a better one, I've used it....) This is our first official holiday together (well, there was St. Patrick's Day, but it kind of lacked the same punch...LOL) and so for his point of view, we are also recognizing it as a celebration of springtime/rebirth of nature. That way everyone can rejoice without compromise.....

Hope everyone enjoys a beautiful day no matter what your beliefs. =)

I am also one who never met Dawn, but I sit here with tears in my eyes as I read of the love she inspired in so many. What a senseless loss, and I hope that each of you who shares special memories of her will keep them in your heart always. In that way, someone you love never truly dies........

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Procedurescandadian police certificate
We got our application approved by USCS last week and began embarking on gathering information for the visa application to NVC. That's when we found we had to have police certificates back to when he was 16 years old. This meant getting one from Canada. They apparently take 5 months to run checks on people not currently residing in Canada. If anyone has any suggestions let me know....the thought of having to wait another 5 months just because of a police certificate is frustrating beyond words.

Hi all hope all is well with everyone. I've been kind of busy lately and haven't been on vj much lately. Just got back from visiting my husband in Nigeria on March 30th. Our petitions were both approved the first of March and he had his interview on April 21st. The interview went well (I think), but one never knows. He needs to complete his medical, which he did last week. So we are currently just waiting for them to call him back to the embassy. I'll try to be better at keeping in touch with everyone.......

Shan thanks for letting me know that! Still learning all these things on vj....lol.

I have actually already graduated from nursing school last year. It was a very hard program, but I can't imagine myself doing anything else. My job is great most days!! Its very rewarding and wonderful bringing families together. There's nothing like seeing the birth of a brand new baby. It is hard at times though when there is a baby that dies or like you said the mother or parents that you know or suspect aren't going to be good parents and you worry about the baby......I've seen soooo much and learned alot since I've worked there. Don't write OB totally off just yet. Keep it as a "maybe"....lol. Good luck with your school and feel free to ask me any questions. I still have all my books, papers, notebooks, etc....from school. I'd be more than happy to help! Believe it or not I kind of miss the school thing (just a little bit).

Are you going to school right now? Although I'm taking some time off, I'm going for nursing as well... When do you graduate?
I always said I wanted to be an OB nurse in the nursery - but I know it'd kill me to send babies home with ppl that I thought weren't going to be good parents! LOL It would just drive me insane! Thought I'd aim at surgery instead. laughing.gif

sorry sweetie did not see your question I be sleepy...Well they dont go by the date ..I really wish they would though. It is like playing the lottery..its all the luck of the draw. They grab a pile and go through it. It also could be held up for security checks YOU name it. They never go by the date though its never a first come first serve with Uscis..REALLY fustrating mad.gif mad.gif

hugs ..it will be okay..you will get it soon I FEEL IT!

PSread my signature!! I called Nvc and talked to a wonderful woman named rose and she giggled when i started to cry and said WOW someone loves somebody big time..I told her age is JUST a number girl and I miss him madly..she said do not worry he will be home soon! Make sure all is in order and you all will be fine and wished me a wonderful chrsitmas! THANKS ROSE WHOEVER YOU ARE!! It was sent out to Sydney AU on the 12th!! SOOOO kai should be receiving a pkg SOON..IM SHAKING SO MUCH TO DO and I have to mail him that stuff..WOW WOW WOW!!!

ALSO
DO I write a letter to the embassy explaining WHY my income tax was so low last year and back it up with a letter from my doctor or something I do have my award letter for this year from SSI and its been increased as well as I am INCLUDING THE EMAIL that the embassy sent me so they cant go back on their word...(covering ALL TRACKS!!)
I have my bosses letter as well stating she will give me the OT to help meet the 125% as well.

HUGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGS
IM SO STOKED...Now Im curious if he will be home in late jan or early feb..SO MUCH TO DO..IM SHAKING

Its okay Cham....no problem at all. That is sooo messed up that they don't go by the date. I know it will come soon enough its just soooo damn frustrating. I have decided that if we don't have an approval by February I will be going back to visit my husband in March (our anniversary). Thanks so much for the encouragement.....it means alot coming from those that totally understand what I'm going through........ heart.gif heart.gif

That's awesome that you got a straight answer from someone (Rose). wow.gif I hope it all works out and he is here with you by January. That would be great!!
I hate calling there and getting a different answer each time. Its almost worth asking for a specific person each time you call?? lol. I'm thinking about calling myself today just to see if anyone knows anything. I'm not expecting to find anything out, but worth a shot. Maybe it will move our petition from one pile to the next?? lol

He chose NOT to fight back due to the visa. BUT will wait NOW to even schedule a medical until it is all cleared up. His father knew the guy who hit him and found him, grabbed him buy the shirt collar told him *listen mate you touch my family or friends and I will beat you like a hooker stuck to a dunny door! the guy was shaking and the main one who hit Kai was HIDING in a cupboard so his dad and his friend WENT IN dragged the lil ####### out and let him have it..slapped him like a girl and told him..HOW do YOU like being hit when YOUR down.

They saw Kai and ran today at the mall...so they wont be coming round again!! They do know Kai from metal weapons and reanactments..its just silly to get drunk and act like a MORON!!!!!!!!!!!

ANYWAY that was OUR day on top of ME having to go to the ER again and missing another day of work because of this huge fall I took...The doc said my back is so messed up that if I do not find another job that is not so demanding I will be in a wheelchair at the rate I am going. my c1 c2 and c3 were puffy and my L6 7 and 4 are really out of place and I have 4 bulging disk now...SOOO my nerve endings are very tender and make my legs twitch and jump...
I REFUSE TO BE LIKE MY MOTHER!! in a bed demanding this or that and not being able to ever be dependent!
I wish I would have NEVER took the car out that day so some drunk moronic teen could hit me...YES i know I am lucky..very lucky to even be alive!
The car was totaled I hit my head on the windshield, crushed my left hand my kneecaps and cracked my c4 and l4 5 and 8 SO ya I'm very lucky because I used a wheelchair for almost 5 years and a cane for 4...its getting worse and I cant be in denial any longer..SOOO taking baking and secretarial training to upgrade my skills

SIGH...God or the Gods only give you as much as they or he or she thinks YOU can handle and I must be a tough damn cookie..

However, I am totally new at all of this and really have no clue from one day to the next so I could be totally wrong.......

I am such a slacker I am only at #49! :Lil:

Wow #49 huh?? I'd give my right arm I think to be that number.............I'm wayyyy down the list at #139. Why is that?? I have no idea how this whole process works and its soooo damn frustrating when I see others who filed after me getting approved, not that I'm not happy for them, but........."oh well such is life"??
wacko.gif

you filed in sept?? you have a ways to go yet though so be patient hun it will happen..i know its rough!! HUGGLES!!!!!!!

Actually I sent my I130 in on July 29th so that makes me a september filer?? How so??

PB and all in July who still have not received your noa2s...lots of finger crossing here and prayers!! if you hit 6 months..get your congressman on it and fast!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

also for whoever is stuck in NVC...hugs and prayers as well

Kai got beat up ..he is okay ..two guys who did not like redhead men and were smashed drunk let him have it while he was leaving work. he has a black eye and cement rash as they hit him while he was down AFTER they taunted and shoved him.

Thanks all for letting me vent..its been a LONGGGGGGGGGG DAY!!

loves you VJ family!!

I am sorry to hear you got stuck at NVC!! I am crossing my fingers for you that your case is out there soon. This is ridiculous after this long wait for NOA2 ...

Congrats on all approvals! VSC seems to really catch up!!!

Who is left of all July filers? Anyone? Or do I already have to join the August thread to have some companions? helpsmilie.gif

I'm still here! no touches, no approval, nothing. whistling.gif

me too, no nothing !!! crying.gif crying.gif crying.gif crying.gif mad.gif mad.gif crying.gif

I'm still waiting too............had TWO touches in October but NOTHING since and I'm losing my mind this week. Really not dealing well with this at ALL!! I know there are allot more out there who've been waiting alto longer, but...........USCIS already screwed with us once and it just adds more insult to injury if u know what i mean................oh well and the waiting continues...........

Wow, I can't believe it! We have slowly made it into Igor's Top 40 with some fine other June and July filers! Yay #37! Who knows, we may even be lucky enough to break into the Top 10 in the coming weeks. What an honor. My salute to all those 36 other petitioners & Igor watchers with positions above me! In any kind of scoring system attaining these lofty positions would be truly admirable, so here it should also be that way! Don't feel bad ours has moved to May...........went from February to March to April and now May?? Why is that?? I just don't even understand what that is all about. Does that mean we won't get approved until then and I should just stop checking the damn uscis website?? I'm having an off day I guess and not feeling very confident about any of this.........

Our petition was approved on Nov. 12, 2008. Although the petition was filed on June 25, it was not received by CSC till July 8 and the NOA1 was issued on July 23. That's why we consider ourselves as July filers. Anyhow, good luck to everybody in the waiting room. star_smile.gif star_smile.gif

They are records of your tax returns in the USA, the nice things is that if you have them, you dont need to track down your W2s and everything is in one place. If you have all of your records with respect to income, you should be fine.

Thanks a lot for that biggrin.gif So we should be ok as far as that part is concerned, now........what else can I find biggrin.gif Its neverending isnt it? smile.gif

Thanks again
