Ladies.... I just finished reading "Dancing Naked at the Edge of Dawn". It was such a GREAT book! About strong women and the steps and changes we all go through in life. Marriage, kids, divorce, love ... happiness. It was so good!
I think all the strong women in this group would like it.

Just in case anyone has the time to pick up a book! :-)

All the talk about MILs and I get a little worried. My future MIL is so sweet. I am the 1st woman Louis introduced to her. When I talk to her on the phone she is always so nice and wants to know how her baby (my daughter) is doing. I really think she is a nice woman and genuinly likes me! I hope I am not just wishful thinking. But I also see what a sweet guy Louis is so he must have got it from somewhere. Louis' dad .... always asking him where all his grandkids are.... Louis can't be any son of his without his seed spread all around (louis has who knows how many siblings from dad)!!!
I guess I just need to count my lucky stars!!!

My ex's mother .. she is another story! Don't get me started there. Says she loves me God Bless blah blah blah .... but will bad mouth me in a minute! I am the b*&#c that tries to get money from her son yadda yadda yadda ....

No your the b#@$h that wan'ts her son to support his daughter. wacko.gif

Yeah! and I still don't get anything!

Funny I just got an e-mail from her ... It was all " I thank God for you and God bless you" ..... I totally respect religion and I am a spiritual person but it really gets me when people throw around the God this and that and then don't practice what they preach!!!

Ugh!

Irie, I had Marcel go to a clinic and check on his shot records. He need to get two more shots, which he complained about for a WHOLE damnnnn week. Does your HTB (hubby to be)...have a clinic near him. Does he have any school records. That was were Marcel got his information, beause his parents couldn't not locate it. I told him for his physical he has to strip down NAKED in front of a man. Of course, he's not happy about that.

I hate to break it to you; but it COULD be in front of a woman.

LOL - I don't think he would mind that!!
But that is one thing I wont tell him ahead of time, he wont show it but I am sure he will be nervous enough!

Good morning everyone,

I am starting to get this information together to bring to Louis when I go to St Lucia...

In regards to medical history - what does it mean?
He is going today to get all his shots. figured it wouldbe cheaper and less of suprise at the medical when it comes to cost...especially since he has to travel to Barbados to go the exam and the interview.

He doesnt have any medical history records. Its not something that was kept by his mother along the way. Never been too sick really and never had any surgeries....

Thanks for the help!!!

My daughter LOVES Louis. Talks about him everyday. I think it was different though since we got to spend 6 months with him - they really bonded. She loves her dad but tells me she loves Louis more. She didnt spend any time with her dad until this past summer.
I never bad mouth her father - although I would love to! - Tierra is a smart girl and knows a jackass when she sees one! LOL
Anyhow if her father says anything bad about Louis I think she would tell him to shove it! Not to mention she would tell me and I have a court paper saying if he bad mouths me or my family then Tierra does not have to go visit him.
I know it will not be all smooth sailing .....

To the mothers: anyone have children who have good leadership/responsibility qualities? I'm sure I'm doing an adequate job, but I wish my daughter wasn't so lazy. I was wondering to develope these qualities in your children?

BTW the cat ate our bird. The bird will get out of the cage when it was hungry they have been home an entire day and have not even noticed the bird is missing. There were feathers all over the floor and the bird is no wear to be found. I'm going to see how lond time passes before they notice. I told my daughter to feed the bird three days ago, there is no food or water in the dish wacko.gif

Oh That is too bad about the bird!!!

My daughter tends to be lazy at home. I feel like she is so rude to me to. We often argue and she is only 5 years old. My mother says we are so much alike! :-) She will be 6 on the 20th of this month. Sometimes I dont know what to do or say to get her to be a better kid. Then.... I go to a parent teacher conference (she is in K) and her teacher tells me what a wonderful, nice, kind and helpful person she is. It makes me happy to know she hears the things I try to teach her!
I am sure you are doing a woderful job, I think we all may let our kids get away with too much at home. I know she has a more structured day at school. I am always looking for ways to let Tierra know consequences of being lazy. For instance if she leaves things out or on the floor... mommy only picks them up 1 time. And then they never have to be picked up again... cause mommy throws it away. That works most of the time. She is learning about responsibilty.
Maybe the bird's fate will each her a lesson about being lazy!?

Good morning Everyone. it took me 15 minutes to read all the posts from last night! :-)
It is finally sunny here ...COLD .... but sunny. The sun makes me happy. All the snow and grey skies are so depressing.
I cannot wait until April and 2 glorious weeks in St Lucia.

I have a little question...
How long after my man arrives and we get married would it be possible to leave the country?
My boss offered to pay for our Honeymoon!!! And I think we will have to stay in the US which is fine but oh the possibilities if we can leave the country!!! The trip would be my 10 year at the job gift!!!

I am thinking about Big Sur and driving the Pacific coast highway if we stay in the US. I have never been to CA and always wanted to see Big Sur ... and it turns out the mountains are called the Santa Lucia mountains... its a sign!! :-)

Thanks all!
Cat

That's so nice of your boss. The Big Sur sounds nice.

yeah! I was pretty excited! The company I work for represents alot of European Hotels so I would love to bring Louis to Italy but I am not sure how soon it will be possible to leave the US??!!

He must receive either his AP or his green card for you to travel outside the US. I'd say 2-3 month minimum wait after you marry and apply for AOS.

Oh! Thanks for the reply... we could wait that long I suppose, now I have all these possibilities in my head!!
I need opinions now - where would everyone here bring their man if they could???

:-)
Cat

do u know how much money you guys will be working with??

We are a bit of history buffs...........Next international trip for us (besides JA) will be Mexico to visit some Mayan Ruins.

We also have visions of Egypt in our heads for pyramids.

Oh those both sound nice. We rep hotels in Mexico so I could go far there...
I just remembered I was thinking of Thailand. I saw something about an island near Bankok and they have bungalows on the beach and parties for every full moon. It looked very cool and like nothing I had ever done before....
I always thought India would be an interesting trip... with all the noise and colors and spices

I ask Louis where he has "always wanted to go" and he never knows. Or gets all mushy and says "anywhere you go"! LOL

United KingdomI know most of you met your OH online...
I roll my eyes and laugh, that is how I deal with it.

I don't think that anyone who has not been through it can understand, which is why I am SO happy Matt found this site. Our relationship is an endless source of fascination for most people, both for the way we met and because of the distance. When he flew here the first time, my friends were very worried for me. Worried he wouldn't show up, worried I would be dissapointed, worried he was a crazed axe murderer who travelled all this way for the sole goal of slaughtering me! They just can't comprehend how you could possible really KNOW someone when your communication with each other is long distance.

They also have no concept of the amount of time we actually spend together talking and gaming. How can you NOT know someone when you talk with them about everything for hours every single day?

As far as your age, I don't have much wisdom to share there, but it seems like you 2 have been together for years. That has to count for something!
Sherri and MattFemaleEngland2008-08-01 06:38:00
United KingdomWhere are you from?
Matt's first visit here, we were at a restaurant, and when the waitress heard his accent she went to get a girl from England who works there to "translate". I said "you do realize he DOES speak English right?". He kind of gets a bit embarrassed because everyone wants to hear him talk. After the first time he met everyone from my office, one of the docs said she had no idea what he was saying so she just nodded. That made me laugh.

I love his accent of course, and he likes mine. I have spent so many countless hours talking to him though, that I don't notice it that much anymore, and that makes me sad. Unless I hear him talking to someone else, then it jumps out at me again.

Olive oil is very good for your ears, especially if it is garlic olive oil. Get a big syringe at a drugstore (one without a needle of course) like the ones you would use to give medicine to a child, just bigger. Fill it with warm water and squirt you ear until the wax comes out. Another thing that helps is a little hydrogen peroxide in the warm water. I work for pediatricians and we clean ears out every day with just a little warm water like that. The trick in using the syringe or something similar to do it is that it has some force behind it and flushes out the ear. If it is hard wax it might hurt a bit when it comes lose from the skin in the ear canal, which is probably why the doc told you to use the drops for 2 weeks to soften it up. You are not going to go deaf, don't worry. The wax just gets in the way of the sound waves hitting your eardrum properly. We have kids come in all the time because they fail hearing tests at school and we just clean their ears and they are fine, no harm done, no lasting effects.

United KingdomThe United States of America - my thoughts so far
I think your post is very insightful saywhat.

It does sound like most of your experiences are from more rural areas. The only way to find diversity and culture is in big cities here, rural areas are very much as you describe. I live in a very rural area too and it can be stifling. I try to expose my kids to different types of people and ideas as much as I can, but it is hard to do when your kids go to schools where there are only white people from this town.

I am very liberal in my views and my vocalization of these views has raised more than a few eyebrows. There are people who won't let their daughters be friends with mine, because I teach them about birth control, evolution, and above all I try to teach them understanding, tolerance and to be non-judgemental. One of the pediatricians I work for is a homosexual, and there are people who won't bring their children to him, as if his sexual preference has anything at all to do with his skills as a physician. Racism is rampant although people will swear to you they are not racist, and they are not lying. They don't think they are, they think their racist ideas are just right and normal. I lived in a more urban place before I lived where I do now, it's been 5 years and I still have moments when I just stand there and blink in shock at what I just heard come out of someone's mouth. Religion very much controls things here, and I think it is an outrage.

Country music makes my ears bleed, I hate pickup trucks, think hunting for sport is ridiculous, have no guns in my house, would be perfectly happy for my daughter to be gay, marry a black man, or have an abortion, I think organized religion is the bane of modern society and I hate George Bush, he's a tool.

Hang in there, there are people here that actually live in this century, not in the one this country was founded in a short 2 hundred years ago. The funniest thing in my situation, is that I am far more liberal than my SO. What are the odds?

Is something weird going on here? That post from the girl who couldn't make yorkshire pudding was a separate thread, and I replied with a link to this thread where we started on yorkies. Now that's all combined into the Sunday Roast thread. How did that happen? Magic?

I think someone merged the threats. Didn't know they could do that, but I think that's what happened. The header changed to add the Yorkshire pudding line. laughing.gif

I can't make Yorkshire Pudding!!!! I fail miserably!!! They come out as these flat, heavy miserable little lumps. My mother-in-law to be sent me a pan and a recipe with pictures and instructions....and I still can't make them! Please help me, I have tried researching online in other spots.

I am wondering if I am not translating the recipe right. This is what she gave me: 4 oz. of flour, 3 eggs, whisk them together. Add 6-7 oz of milk and whisk frantically. Add some salt and pepper if you want. Preaheat the oven to 250 C and put one teaspoon of oil in the bottom of each little cup. Put the pan in the oven until the oil is smoking hot. Quickly pour the batter in and cook for 20-25 minutes and don't open the oven door. Ever! Not even to peek! So I used 1 cup of flour, the 3 eggs and 3/4 a cup of milk and put the oven at 475. Seems like a lot of eggs to me and maybe she meant small eggs and I used large because she said if the eggs were too small to use 4. I heated the oil, I did everything I thought was right.....flat.

The good news is....the wedding is still on. But it would be nice to be able to make him one of his favorite things. I'm normally a pretty good cook. Really.

United KingdomWhat was the transition like?
I'm the USC in our pair, but I thought I might add abit of advice. Matt misses his duvet, some food, walking...a lot of the things that seem so common.

Coriander/Cilantro. Coriander is the seed of the plant and Cilantro is the green leafy part that grows out of the Coriander.

Don't buy meat at Wal-mart. For the love of all that is holy. God knows how long that has sat in it's package in the cooler with chemicals sprayed on it to make it stay red on the outside. Find a small local market in your town that sells meat. Most of the small grocery stores have butchers in a back room, and if you ask, they will get you any cut of meat you want. You won't find many pre-packaged in the cooler, but if you ask, they will do it. I live in East BumF*%$ nowhere and we have several little stores like that. One of them is particularly popular because if even they don't have a type of meat, they will find it for you. As well as anything else you might want, I know people that go there for blood sausage and Haggis (sp?).

Same thing applies for baked goods. Many of those little stores have bakeries and always check dates. Or make note of the day you know they make a particular thing and buy it then. I know on Sunday's my local store bakes bread because when I walk in it is all I can smell. I know it is probably still not the same, but it is better than the bagged stuff on the shelf. Sometimes you can find small family bakeries. I have one near my work that bakes fresh every morning while most of us are fast asleep, and they only sell what they make that day.

United KingdomUK police certificate ? and 156 ?
Thanks for your replies. smile.gif

He was made redundant in February so he does not know if he can get his employer to do it. As far as the GP, he says he has never seen his GP that he was assigned to, so they don't know him. Ya he's one of those people that never go to the doctor unless they are dying. Does it have to be an official of some sort?

United KingdomUK police certificate ? and 156 ?
Another quick question...

The Embassy website states the principal applicant only completes for DS 156K, and anyone travelling with them needs to do DS-156, 157. Does this mean he ONLY fills out 156K and does not need the others or is it just clarifying that the others don't need to do a 156k?

Matt is working on getting the things he will need for his interview. (God willing we actually do get approved someday) He can across the instructions hat he needs photos to get his police record and they have to be signed by an official that has known him for at least 2 years. He doesn't know any people like that. Is he reading it wrong? What did you guys do?

On the new for DS-156, what did you all put for the place your passport was issued from?

United KingdomPossible to contact embassy...?
Matt is in France visiting his parents one last time before he moves here. He can't call the premium embassy line from France, and will not be going back to England until he goes for his interview. He can't e-mail them without the code, which he can't get without calling them. He refused to put down a travel date because he was too worried because he didn't actually have a set date, and thought that the officer might be alerted to that using the crystal ball they keep in thier desk. Even though I told him several times it might delay our interview as they try to acommadate others travel plans. His excuse was it didn't matter because he would just call them. Exactly. headbonk.gif

If we make it through this without me losing my mind with him it will be a miracle. As it is now we have to wait for him to recieve packet 4 at his address in England and his roomate will forward to him in France. Any suggestions as to how we can get in touch with the embassy about getting an interview scheduled before god only knows when?

United KingdomOperator refused to give me e-mail code
So I paid the 16 bucks and called the 866 embassy number so I could get an e-mail code so Matt would be able to contact them from France if he needs to. The lady I spoke with refused to give me a code staing "that won't be necessary" and giving me all the party line BS that we all despise. I tried to explain to her that I wanted it in case we needed to contact them in the future and she just kept saying that won't be necessary. She told me the only time we would ever have a need to contact them is if we have heard nothing for 10 more weeks at least, but she is quite confidant we will hear something, therefore it won't be necessary for us to contact them again. Has anyone had this happen to them? I know from this site that calling USCIS is a big waste of time, but I thought once you were at the embassy stage it got better.

United Kingdom4 weeks and still not rec'd at embassy?!
It took us 4 weeks to get a date from the time we sent it in. On Monday the 13th DOS told me we were in the system, on Monday the 6th we were not, so somewhere in that week is when we were put in the system. Our interview date was 3 1/2 weeks from recieving packet 4.

Glad to hear you got some good news. I was so relieved when they said the papers were there being processed, and I bet you feel much better. smile.gif

United KingdomChecklist question - Notorized Statement?
My fiancee had nothing notarized for his interview. He just had the letters of intent we sent in with our original app.

It did take longer than 10 days to get the police certificate. It was just over 2 weeks for us.

Hi everyone! I am trying to order some of Matt's favorite things for Christmas, and I need help. I know where and how to get Brit foods, I just don't know the name of something and am hoping someone here knows it. I need to find his favorite cereal which is like little pillows with chocolate in the center. If I ask him, he might figure out what I am doing. One time one of the kids was eating Captain Crunch and he said it was kind of like that but with chocolate, almost like Nutella.

He has settled in well, but I know it's hard for him at times, even if he hates to admit it and never complains, so I just wanted to give him something he misses. The biggest thing he misses is Branston Pickle and I found that no problem, and of course real Cadbury's. yes.gif

Thanx in advance for your help!

Well sometimes the store Cost Plus World Market has some English stuff at gastly prices however. Why dont you sweet talk one of his relatives in sending a "care package" over to you...send them some money and have them do the shopping for you!

That's a good idea, but his only family is his parents and they live in France now and can't get a lot of English things. His mum can't remember the name of the cereal either.

United KingdomHow long did it take for London to recieve your case?
We too experienced a lag once our case left NVC. I got absolutely nowhere calling London, it's just a waste of money. The only information I ever got at this stage was that I just needed to wait, and it was maddening. It was like calling USCIS here and getting standard replies regarding processing times. London just said "it takes 8 weeks, call back in a month". It took us over 2 months from NVC to interview, while I would see others sail through in 2 weeks. It makes no sense, a lot of it is about as predictable as rolling dice. headbonk.gif

I doubt it is lost though, probably just has not been logged into the system. I don't have the phone number for Department of State (DOS) in front of me, but if you do a VJ search it will come up. NVC is National Visa Center, just one part of the system. DOS can check online using your case number and tell you what has been logged in, and it's a free call, no credit card needed.

United KingdomThe 2008 United Kingdom Interview Thread!
I just thought i'd share a quick update... Now that we have the K-1 visa, today my fiance is en-route to the US so that we can get married in April! He is currently somewhere over the Atlantic Ocean on his way to be with me, and I am so happy and excited and anxious I could burst! I'm at work and trying to concentrate but it's tough... Knowing that all our stress and worry and planning is finally getting him HERE to be with me is an indescribable feeling. I hope that everyone here gets to know this feeling very soon- it's one of the best feelings, and definitely one I won't forget anytime soon! kicking.gif wub.gif :energetic:

So whats the word from Courtney?? How could anyone forget to announce interview results??? I mean, we are all waiting!!!

While I really do want to know how things went, I was really being a bit facetious in my post! Kind of like an "Are we there yet" kid!

I didn't forget to post! Have been busy getting back from London with my fiance, and are just about to sit down with his parents with a nice bottle of champagne and an Indian takeaway! My idea of celebration! We are APPROVED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Really amazing how 7 months of stressing can culminate in a 4 minute interview! I went to the embassy with him, and he came away from his short interview beaming, and i was ready to start jumping up and down screaming, but that's not appropriate in the Embassy, so we did that when we got outside! We're very excited, and now our wedding on April 19th is a definite!

Thanks for all your well wishes, and I wish good luck to everyone awaiting their interview. It was painless for my fiance, and I hope it goes just as smoothly for everyone else!!!

i had interview at 10am on a tuesday, visa was in my hand by 9.30am thursday.

Had you gone back to Scotland when you received the visa, or do they require you stay in London to await the delivery of the visa?
