offtopic45vn.gif Oh ladies I am soooooooo TIRED today. I could fall alseep in this chair. Louis and I went out last night, had a couple martinis and listened to some reggae. I am so glad we went but man, I am too old for staying out late on a work night.
I used to be able to get 4 hours sleep all week and still go into the office everyday! I need to get my energy up!
Maybe one of Lawny's redbull concoctions would work for me today! I have had 2 big strong cups o' coffee and it isnt even making a dent! zzzzzzzzz

But I think he is more of easy going job type of guy. We will be ok though. I think we will both go back to school. When looking for a job for Louis ... we applied for EVERYTHING! Grocery stores...whereever. Louis worked in TV back home and its just not the same as here. He is going to take classes to be more relevent here.
He got a job at the gardening place, but they laid him off after the busy season. Then applied at the harware store and got that job because my uncle knew the owner... that job was sooooo boring, and I think the owner's son had a problem with Louis (black people in general)... he always had a shaved head (wouldnt be surprise if he were a skinhead) and they were always making louis do the stuff no one else wanted to do. So he left there. I didnt blame him 1 bit! I search Craigslist, Sunday paper... everything. Now he is doing an odd job, construction job. He got that out of the blue, no interview, nothing! The guy had been to St Lucia 4 times and hired Louis becuase he is Lucian...
I think all his jobs have been "luck" really. Poor Louis isnt cut out for hard labor though, we have to get him in school asap!

Question for yardies going through the AOS (which I'm preparing for shortly):

This part on the AOS guide has me concerned...

QUOTE
11. I-693, Medical Examination of Aliens Seeking Adjustment of Status. (If you already have this from your overseas Visa Interview submit a copy that medical check form; No fee is required in this case. If you are a K-1 fiancé(e) or K-2 dependent who had a medical examination within the past year as required for the nonimmigrant fiancé(e) visa, you only need to submit a vaccination supplement (I-693A), not the entire medical report. You may include the vaccination supplement with your adjustment of status application.)

We did not get a 693 or 693A from mister's medical exam. The only thing they gave him was his blue vaccination card that he obtained from his elementary school. I'm wondering if this means I'll have to send him to a doctor (more MONEY....GREAT!!) to have them fill out the form for the AOS package. What did those of you who have done this or are doing this do?

i was worried about that too. we did not have a 693 or 693a either. i sent in the copy of his vaccination records....which he obtained at the medical exam because he didn't have any records prior to that. everything went thru....no rfe, and no interview...

the vaccination records from the medical exam were NOT on a 693

Louis had one of those blue cards too, then at the medical he got a couple shots, including Chicken Pox along with a note saying he had to get a 2nd shot here in the US. When he got here we got him the shot. So I sent in a copy of everything and prayed for no RFE. Worked! No RFE and no Interview... just the GC!

I think that is a Philadendron (sp?) .. I have a bunch. f I can't kill them .. you will do fine! LOL. They are pretty easy. Does it have solid green leaves or a veregated leaf? The solid ones take more sun.. but not too much. I put mine near a window that gets moderate sun during the day... water when the soil gets dry and they are happy. If it starts to grow long and bare.... just trim up the leaves and the top will fill out. They tend to like certain spots. I had one that wasnt happy in one room so I put in another and it is growing all new plants!!

Good luck! :-)

That is so wonderful! What a great backround your kids have! Tierra's father did a geneology and found out he had an asian background as well. It so interesting.
I think bringing Tierra to St Lucia for 6 months was such a great oppurtunity. I jumped at the chance. She has been so many places most 7 year olds have never heard of!

Did he do that here? What company (if you don't mind sharing)? I'm thinking to have my genealogy traced eventually.

Ok, I just called her. She is a wealth of information! She said she has been working on her own geneology since '93! Her grandmother was full blooded Shawnee Indian! cool stuff!
So anyway... she used ancestry.com, rootsweb, and finally for the most info she used national genographic association (or society) ... paid $99 and they did Tierra's father's background. It took some time and you check the progress online. They go back thousands of years. Turns out Tierra is part Irish also and her 6th great grandfather was a white irishman who fell in love with a black woman. Their children helped found Anne Arundel county in Maryland! Left 400 acres of land (which is now part of Laurel MD) to his black grandchildren.... Laurel MD is where Tierra's father grew up.
This stuff is so interesting.. gives me goosebumps!

sus ur right, but then again.. kids also can be the cruelest ppl on Earth.. differences can be exciting or reasons for them to exclude u..

I think that happens especially to kids who aren't used to diversity (of skin tone, of thought processes). When I can have children, we will definitely travel so that they can be exposed to a variety of people... that is, if we can afford to since Steven wants 8 children.

That is soo true. That is a wonderful gift to give to any child exposing them to this buffet we call life. I am a German born African who also grew up in London and Ghana and came to the US as a teenager. Granted I do not fit in anywhere, but I can thrive anywhere and get along with most people. I make it a point that my daughter spends time with my family both here and in London and also spends time with her father's family who are Caucasian/white. Nothing thrills me more than when she speaks my dialect, can speak with my funny accent and speaks in a totally different accent when speaking to her Dad. Mo man is an Island. star_smile.gif

Speaking of mean kids.... One thing I have really tried to instill in Tierra is being kind and nice and thoughtful. I don't want her to be bullied but I darn sure dont want her to be the bully!

This past school year I had to contact the school because a little "girl" on the bus called her an a#$hole! I couldn't beleive it... 7 years old!! Said no one really liked Tierra, they just like her stuff... which I find amusing becuase we are one of the least "well off" families in this town... So I handled that one... the girl apologized

Then... this past Sunday I get home and see 7 messages on my answering machine. I look at the caller ID and see it was Tierra's little "friend" next door so I didnt listen to the messages cause she is always going on in jibberish... Then the phone rings. The girl is calling again and doesnt say anything, hangs up and does this again. I try to call back, no answer... call the house phone they wont let me speak to the mom. So I decide to listen to the messages... they (the little girl and a friend) are leaving messages calling Tierra a "2-faced loser", B$#%@, say they are going to beat her up etc... I was LIVID... took Louis and went to this womans house and she was outside on her cell, smoking cigarettes and obviously ignoring her children.... OH I JUST COULD NOT BELEIVE A 6 YEAR OLD WAS DOING THIS!!! I mean do we all teach our kids to be nice... or at least try!!?? I understand kids can be mean and argue with each other ... but this ####### came from a 6 year old little girl!!!

Needless to say this child is no longer a friend of Tierras! UGH.... I still get upset over it. The mom made her come over and apologize.

man..ive seen some mean girls, but cussing at 6!! and bold enough to leave a vm??? WOW

She wasnt too smart though... saying "hi this is viola and mickey" LOL... left their names for evidence (as if caller id wasnt good enough" hahaha

I know he has been going to a Catholic School in Kingston and I know you went to one too. Wonder if he is going to flip out going to a public school now. Should be fun to watch. Did your parents ever ask if you could be moved up a grade?

Dillon, I was 2 grades ahead for my age, my parents wanted to do that, but the only way that could have been done was to put me in private school and they could not afford that in the states, so my brother and I dealt with it. I was very depressing, then to add, we couldn't eat the food and got hospitalized.

tre, was it easy for you to make friends?

It was easy for me to make friends...damn, I was Ms. International, but it was difficult for me to understand them...sometimes I still have problems understanding some Americans depends on where they're from.

That makes me think of Tierra when she went to school in St Lucia... she said "I like it mama but I can't understand anyone". Everyone would gush over T and one little girl said they were sisters. So she loved the attention but I am sure she had no clue as to what was going on half the time.

My sis said once she got the epidoral(sp) it wasn't that bad... and she push and has a c-section all in the matter of 16 minutes!

I had the epidural.. was in labor for 24 hours. When epidural wore off they wouldnt give me more! So I had the pain of the epidural (hate needles) and then had her natural anyhow. My dr retired after I had Tierra and told me her head was one of the biggest she ever delivered! OUCH!

Oh I almost spit my pop out!!!! LMFAO!!!!Wait no the freak he didn't!!!! LOL The nerve of some doctors..

Oh I loved my Dr, she was awesome. She wasnt being mean... just saying T had a big head. LOL... SHE DID! She grew into it hahaha. Its a running joke... she got her mama's big head!! LOL

talking about the smoking thing; I know people who have gone through the process twice and tested positive both time. No, way I could survive that. They asked my husband 5 times if he's ever smoked and he said no, the doctor joked and said, man, a ow you eye dem so red and shinny...he told the doc he had allergies. The doctor was upfront and asked my husband if im bun ganga, he didn't even beat around the bush.

When I decided to get serious with my husband I asked him 5 simple questions

1) Are you married
2) Have you ever been locked up
3) Has anyone ever filed papers for you
4) Do you smoke
5) Do you have any children

What I have a problem with is the laid-back attitude once some men/women come to states. My cousin's husband has been here 2 years now and not working, why...cause im rass won't put done displif, bout it cleanse his soul. He tested positive the 1st time he went through the visa process, second time around his dumba$$ stopped smoking a month before the medical and by the grace of God his test came up clean and thought it was funny....bout seet deh a jah works!

I love this! Tre you need to teach a class in assertiveness and my best friend needs to take. In fact she lives in MD.. I think you should "school her"!! I just told her the other day that she needs to ask certain questions BEFORE even giving out her number. She wants to get married and have kids, she is already 35! She needs to stop messing with these fools who keep secrets, have a wife..or whatever!

JG, thanks for your story. You are truly a strong woman. I am sure you feel stronger for getting through it.

I am so thankful that Louis can deal without the weed. He understands the consiquences. I have not (nor him) paid for it since he got here. The only time Louis gets it is when someone gives him a little. My friend's husband gave him a spliff for the 4th... he still has it!
He had a friend that went to Canada for work ... got caught with weed and sent home. Louis was so dissapointed in him. He couldn't beleive he gave up an oppurtunity like that for something so unneccesary....

Louis quit about 3 months before the medical. I did alot of research! THC stores in your fat cells, Louis had (at the time) about 0% body fat so it wouldn't stay in his system long no matter what.

You say "at the time." I'm wondering about how much the men get bigger when they go from Jamaica to here. Steven thinks he won't gain weight. I'm SURE that he will. About how many clothing sizes did Louis go up (if you don't mind sharing)?

Louis left SLU with a 29 inch waist. He has about a 32 now! He said he wouldnt gain weight either. I remember in St Lucia this lady introduced me to her man, said he was skinny too... until he married her! Now he is "fat and happy".

Louis eats alot more here. He has so many more choices! I also remember talking to him at times and he had helped his mom out or a family member with $$ and didnt have anything to eat. He would go hungry if somone needed something. He would get paid once a month and have to stretch that out all month.

Now if only I could go in reverse!!! blush.gif

Jawi, Newly....

THERE IS NO MAGIC PILL, BUSH REMEDEY... NOTHING that can make you pass that test except quitting and time! Beleive me I know, I have had plenty of "pot smoking hippie" friends try to scam the tests before! LOL Even now that Louis is here... we don't waste our money on it. Louis could not beleive the cost in the states!

If he didnt pass... I WOULD HAVE BEEN PISSED! I can't say I know what I would have done. But I probably would have gone back to St Lucia to live and see what happened from there. I do not have a problem with him smoking, I would have had a big problem if he put our future in jeapardy for it.

When I got home from the baseball game today, I did my 3 usual checks for USCIS news: mail, email, & USCIS case status website. Seeing nothing there, and hearing how all my other long-waiting December filers are being approved this week, I called the number & used the secret code Roxie told me.

The lady told me that they're processing cases from December 23 today. Then she asked for my receipt number, and I heard quite for a long time. "Hello?" "I'm still here." Then she goes "Well, I have good news. YOUR APPROVAL WAS SENT OUT TODAY." I started screaming/crying/talking. She kept trying to tell me about NVC & blah blah blah. But I was on my approval high and didn't hear a word she said!

Praise be to God. JUST yesterday, Steven told me that he got the passport pictures which was the VERY last thing we needed for the medical/interview. After he said that, I pointed up and said "We're ready! The next step is on You!" Then, today, NOA2!!

WONDERFUL news! YAY! Congratulations to you both!!!! kicking.gif kicking.gif
