O.k. I was listening to my Steve Harvey show this morning and my girl Monique is on there talking bout her show that airs Sept 25. So I come to work to try and find out info on it because I want to see where it is tapping because I would like to be an audience guess or what ever. Well I found some pics she recently took at the hoodie awards and gosh darn it bat man the chic has lost weight. But I’m worried she looks like she lost weight through surgery and not by eating right and exercising. What I don’t get is Monique to me was a beautiful full figure girl She was flawless she always dresses nice and wasn’t she a spoke person for full figured woman? Now I can se her wanting to lose weight for health reasons or maybe she was just tired of being big but if your a spoke person for big girls all ova why wouldn’t you show them a healthy way to come done instead of doing surgery? Now I might be wrong maybe she dint get surgery but from this pic what do you all think??

I think we are going to head to the Jamaican Jerk Center in Cape Neddick... Saturday afternoon. I beleive Fitzie Niceness is playing. Do you know him? Need something to do Saturday night!!

Irie - haven't heard him live in a while, but I heard his stuff on Myspace - he doesn't sound bad - think I saw him play with Hot Like Fire before - I really only know Bigga cause he used to live down here and.... whistling.gif

I agree with Finesse's smilie about Gregory though - Sad, he was clean for a while there.

How far are you from Boston? The Western Front usually has some good reggae, and there are reasonable hotels nearby -

'bout 2 hours at the most from Boston. But I think we will stay local. I am waiting for my friend to come back from Afghanstan and start playing with his old band so I can take Louis down. My car is ####### and I am afraid it will break down. It has a habit of doing that on important dates... My Birthday... a couple days before our wedding... I am sure if I drove to Boston it would die 1/2 way down and start pouring! LOL

Til poor KJ had to seh "Mummy Gill, what's wrang?" Then I cried harder because he remembered me! Irie, here in prince George's County in Maryland there are plenty of Black catholic churches. I am Catholic.

Also, here in PG, County, in maryland, we are a marjority of AA. We were spotlighted in Ebony, as the highest income county for AA in the USA.

You know thats where I lived! I didnt even know that! :-) we went to Queens Chapel Methodist church.

My best friend is Irish Catholic! Growing up she had a later curfew then me so I would spend Saturday nights at her house. Sunday morning we would go to Church... I would try so hard not to fall asleep. My favorite part was singing Amazing Grace and shaking hands with people "Peace be with you". Those were the only breaks from sitting, standing, kneeling, sitting, standing, kneeling, sitting, standing kneeling..

I am sending Tierra to Bible Camp this week. I was so happy to see all the brown kids that were there monday morning. I wish there were more integrated churches here. Tierra's father sang in the church choir down in MD, had a CD released and everything... I can't find a church ANYWhere in Maine that has a kids choir. I hate to say it but "white" church is boring.. I actually enjoyed going to church with Tierra's dad. I was the only white person there and NEVER felt out of place.

I'm with you, most of the churches I've been raised with have been BORING! The songs are boring & it all seems pretty stiff even though the people are nice. Lehi thought the worship was boring when we went with my parents to their church when he first got here BUT, he loved how short the service was! Start at 10:30 & done at noon! He's willing to go any time since it's so short! good.gif laughing.gif

now i do think that is dependent upon denomination.. cuz there are some very exciting white pastors but forgive me if i offend, they are not usually baptist/protestant/methodist. not USUALLY
omg.. my ex was methodist and the church was ALL black... i only went that ONE TIME..

different strokes for different folks, if he wanted to keep going he could have LOL.. i gotta have some stomping and clapping in my life sorry.. blush.gif

Thats funny! I was raised Methodist.. not that my family ever went to church after I was about 3 years old! I hated church when I was little. I wanted to be with my mom and they didnt let the children upstairs during mass. So I was baptised in this little church on an island where my grandfather lived here in Maine and when Tierra and I moved back I had her baptized there as well.. the pastor was so nice... but all these little blue haired ladies wondering where the heck my husband was!! LOL
When I lived in MD, Tierra's father and I went to a methodist church there... clapping, singing and hallelujas all around. There is a HUGE difference between southern Methodist and us Yankees up here in conservative New England!

Ok VJers.. I have a question that has been lurking on my mind (hope it hasn't been asked and if it has, please lead me to the page):

How hard would you think it would be or has it been for your SO to get accustomed to living in a town/city that is predominantly white? I ask this because I was talking w/ my hubby about living in such an area and he states that he doesn't know if he could. Now he did say that since he loved me, he would live there, but he strongly thinks he'd try to convince me to move. It is a culture shock for them to move to another country in itself, but to also move to where there are very very few minorities. Have any of you experienced such a thing??

*sidenote:
I am in no way, shape or form racist and I do not ask this to hurt feelings or cause drama. Just a curious mind is all I have, blush.gif

Well I don’t know about your hubby but I for one live in a predominately white city all my life and I am looking for the day to move to a city that is more diverse. Atlanta would be my dream place to live. I love it down there because to me it’s evenly populated or AA tips the scale. It s was so nice being in a city where AA people were doing great. Here in my city it’s shame but to find majority of AA you find them in he rougher parts of the town where public housing is more popular. When you go out in our suburbs where the nicer houses and cars are its mainly all white and if you are AA and move out there you get into big drama. T o me my city is still quite racist. When I went to ATL I was in culture shock seeing AA people driving fancy cars and living in fancy homes. It was so uplifting. My city is currently trying to think of ways to increase the AA population because most of them are moving to other cities that are more diverse.

I fell in love with JA because it s mainly all black I love it so like you said for him to move here and now you want to seclude him man oh man I think that is asking a bit much but in the end you have to do what you have to do.

Hey Sus what kind of law office do you work for?

well.. personally.. i would not seek to live in that neighborhood either, i don't like too much of any one kind of ppl all around me.. LOL.. so i wouldn't even suggest roger do it.. altho, it probably wouldn't matter anyway, i am very anitsocial, never really fellowshipped w/ my neighbors

I lived in DC/MD/VA area for almost 10 years. I loved it! I loved all the people and all the culture etc... in every neighborhood I lived in I was the only white person.
The thing is I am from Maine, a pretty "white" state. When I needed my family and moved home, it didnt matter where I lived, it was going to be a white neighborhood. Only in recent years has it become more diverse, which is wonderful.
But I do not choose to live in a "white neghborhood" ... in fact I didnt even choose where I live now. My Aunt and Mom moved me in here when I was in St Lucia.
I thought about moving to Portland where it is more diverse, but the school system in the town I live now is the best in the state, so that made me change my mind. I live only 15 minutes from Portland so we shop there, eat there, go out there.. just live in the 'burbs.

I can count the black people on 1 hand in our town. Louis and the 2 african girls that go to school with my daughter (they are foster kids so even their mom is white!) My daughter is mixed and I think I saw family move in up the street! Tierra likes to point out all the black people to Louis so he doesnt feel so alone. :-) Really, the only issue he has is people staring at him. And really for the most part they just like looking at him! I don't think (for the most part) that people are looking at him in a bad way. He gets compliments on his hair from older white ladies all the time. A woman at the grocery store (I swear my mom's age) even said hello to him, asked if he was Rasta, and told him "I smoked the Wisdom Weed myself!"...hahaha
We live close to the "city" and do hang out there often. It is MUCH more diverse in Portland. Africans, Hispanic, Asians... all kinds and colors!
At 1st I think Louis was pretty uncomfortabele, but now, having been here more than a year, he realizes its not so bad. He knows no one is out to get him and that people here in general are friendly and kind. As long as your SO has an open mind to people being kind, and not thinking from jump everyone will hate him... he will get accustomed quicker.
All that being said, I dont think he would say no to moving somewhere like DC! He loved it there.

I'm annoyed with hubby this morning. I'm trying to remember that I'm FAR from perfect & I make plenty of mistakes myself but he is just CARELESS often times. A few weeks ago, he lost his set of house keys. Probably while at school but who really knows....he looked around & they haven't been found there. He's very casual about the whole thing while I find it kind of a big deal considering some of the people he goes to school with are former crack addicts & people living in homeless shelters. In other words, people who are still possibly desperate....yes I realize I seem a little paranoid but we are in SF.

Now this morning, he calls to tell me he lost the index card I made for him with our address & ALL of my phone numbers as well as his Dad's #. This card is usually in his wallet but for some reason was not to be found this morning. Again, maybe I'm a bit paranoid but if he's leaving these items at school (or anywhere in the city for that matter), he's leaving a lot of semi-sensitive personal information for who knows who to access. I was perturbed & told him to go look for it & ended the convo. A while later he calls back to tell me he found it but the water bottle in his backpack spilled on it & smeared most of the info. I was glad he found it but still annoyed that he seems so irresponsible about these things. Granted he is not used to carrying around papers & keys but STILL, I feel like he should take this a little more seriously. I'm probably just PMSing & overreacting though..... mad.gif

I think it is just that it seems we go from single, independant and doing things on our own (the way WE like it!) and then all of a sudden we need to compromise and deal with someone elses way of doing things. I really try to tell myself to let things go... I am very particular and like things done my way and need to learn that Louis does things his way.. and that his way is not always the wrong way.
Maybe you are overreacting a little, but I understand where you are coming from. Just venting it can feel better though.
Louis loses lots of things (and blames it on my cleaning!) :-)

So what do think of wearing socks with sandals?

this is like scratching the chalk board for me. it annoys me. Not that I should care what people wear but i can't even look at..

Oh my gosh! That is the worst! Up here in Maine we have many, many Birkenstock and socks wearers! Even worse when they are old guys with shorts and black dress socks! Ewww!

Thought I would add in about chores... I hate doing dishes. Louis will do that. I am a pretty neat person and like things in their place. A cluttered house gets me anxious. So I do pick up every day. Vaccuum a few times a week. Every couple weekends I mop, bleach.. deep cleaning stuff. Louis always helps, no matter what. He will do anything I ask him to do. He doesnt always volunteer but if he sees alot of dishes or the trash needs to be taken out he will do it.
We never discussed anything. It just happened. I think because he is the oldest of 3 boys and his mom has not always been able to clean like she would want to (health problems) he was always there to help her.
Oh he cooks really well too. Nothing has ever been "a woman's job" or "a man's job". One of us will get what needs to be done... done!

did you get to meet your daughter at the airport with the princess treatment?

Oh yes! I had 12 hot pink roses for her.. she was so happy! Then we went to dinner at her fave chinese place. She loved her room we painted for her. 1st thing I did when we got home.... washed ALL THE GREASE out of her hair. Her father thinks she needs a gallon of oil in there... it was so gross!! hahhaha! I am terrible. Her father and I do things so differently.

Kimmy I went through that last year with my son's old teacher/old school. When I went to the meet and greet the look on her face was "WOW, you're his mom" ... I said, yes, is there a problem...she replied, well, he's...(he's WHAT). My son came home a few weeks later and asked me if he's mixed? I said, where did you get that from, he said the teacher asked him...straight to the school the next day.

What did she say to you when you went back? WHY is any of that her business... nosey people. UGH!

U made me thing of something...does it bother ya'll when people call you "YANKEE" -- I know some American women are offended by it, but didn't know why.

Technically, I'm not. I'm from MO. We were pretty much neutral.

I don't mind it... A real Mainer is a Yankee for sure, to me its a New Englandish kinda thing. However my boss' husband said it one day like "all you Yankees".. like it was a bad thing. That annoyed me. He is from below the Mason-Dixon... and I guess doesn't like us Yanks.
