K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresone month and 4 days since rfe reply :(
There might not be a red flag - it might just take a long time...the closer to getting the NOA2 I got the more I started questioning and doubting things - "What if they didn't like this..." or "What if I forgot to sign this sheet..." It's easy for you mind to play games on you. Try to take a deep breathe and go with the process (I know, it's harder said than done). And know that others have gone through these types of thoughts before too (well, at least I did!)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNoticed an error on the original petition - do I change it?
We received our NOA2 approval hardcopy yesterday, so, I was copying the original I-129f packet to bring to Scotland with me (I want an copy here as well). Anyway, when I was copying it I noticed on my letter of intent to marry I wrote that I was willing & able to marry my fiance - except, instead I switched his middle & first name order! So, for example, instead of saying I wanted to marry John Doe Smith, I wrote, I'm willing to marry Doe John Smith. Should I correct it in the copy I give to him to bring to the interview? I can't believe I didn't get an RFE for that.

Anyway, I know a new letter of intent is needed for the interview (one with a closer date) and I will be sure not to make that mistake. But, is there anything I should do about this mistake?

Thanks :)

Wishin-n-hopin - aww i"m sorry! Yes, I REALLY liked it when I visited in Feb - I'm excited to see it all green now. Actually, we are looking at taking long vacations there in the summers (as I'm a teacher)...Smile though - you are nearing the end of your journey and will be together soon :):)

Wishin-n-hopin - I will let my fiance know about that suggestion as he knows where we'll be! Lol We will be spending most of our time in Glasgow & Edinburgh - but I have talked him into bringing me to Loch Ness to hunt for Nessy...lol I'm super super excited!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresDo I hear from NVC?
So, I received my NOA2 approval notice last Thursday - and the hardcopy in the mail today!!! (Phew!) I was wondering if I will received a text and/or letter from NVC saying they have my case (I see a lot of people suggesting to call after 14 days) or will I get something once they send it to London? It's just a part of the process I'm confused about. I fly to Scotland to visit my fiance on Thursday and didn't know if I would miss something in the mail while I'm gone...

Thanks :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPutting together the I-129F pack
As mentioned by others - I used ACCO fasteners to compile the entire document. Anything that had more than one paper (ie I-129f form) I stapled. I also printed off divider papers which followed the list of included documents in the cover letter. I highlighted like crazy - but did not use post-it notes b/c I was afraid they would fall off.

I think to each their own, as long as its organized in somewhat of a logical manner.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAfter NVC number...
Just a few questions - I am in Scotland right now - and unfortunately do not have access to my computer where these answers are saved to my hard drive.

1) I just called and NVC gave us our case number and said it was sent to London on Monday. Do I need to track this? Does my fiance need to call the embassy to see if they have received it?

2) My fiance can schedule his medical now, right? But, once he has his medical can he schedule his interview - or does he have to wait for packet three to send it back saying he has all of the required documents?

Thanks :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNeed some kind of Timeline for Wedding Plans
1) Where is your cruise headed? I know in Maine we have many cruises that just go off of the coast for a few hours. IF your cruise leaves USA territory you will be in trouble b/c your fiance (then husband) would not be allowed in. You get 1 chance to enter on the K1.

2) You mentioned 4 months in your timeline for the NOA2. The USCIS states that it takes up to 5 months. Don't shorten it yourself. I know it can happen much quicker (especially if you live on the west coast), however, I know many people who have waited 4+ months (a good friend who waited 5.5!!!)

The wedding planning part of the K1 visa was perhaps the most difficult for me. I wanted to be excited and going out planning everything with friends and family like a typical bride. But that just drove more insane with time. Eventually, I had to just let it go. It was very hard on family and friends, because like yours, they are spread out across the US (and his side in Scotland!). But, they've all come to accept what we have to do. So, what are we doing? We are having a small ceremony (my dad actually got ordained for to do it!) of about 20-30 people on the island I work on. Afterwards we are moving to a small British pub in town to have a dinner where the point is for the families to have time to get to know each other. This will HOPEFULLY happen in Nov (we have our NOA2 - but things are still so up in the air as far as planning b/c of time!)...Then, in May, we would like to have a LARGE reception, on the same island where we are getting married, with all friends and family - as soon as we get married we will send out "save the dates" for our reception so that there is plenty of planning time!

Goooooood luck! :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresLetter from NVC?
Do you get a letter from NVC when they send your packet to London? I thought I read somewhere that they send you a letter...

I called NVC on August 10th and they said that they had mailed my packet to the London Embassy on the 8th. They also gave me my LND number, however, I just got home from visiting my fiance in Scotland and there was not a letter in the mail confirming this.

I used the tracking on DHL - and there was one shipment sent to London on the specified date (but is there really any sure way to tell that this is my packet since there were no names listed?)...IF this shipment included our packet then it was received in London on the 11th.

Should I be calling somewhere and checking on it? Or, should I wait a bit longer to see if my fiance gets packet three soon?

This might be a silly question - but who picks POE? Do they tell you at the interview or do you pick it yourself - can it be anywhere or does it have to be at only specific airports? We are nearing the end of the process and this question just popped into my head!

Thanks :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresEmbassy Payment...
Not sure if this is the right forum...

I did a google search to try and find the answer to this question - but it seems as though there are a lot of different opinions and then there is the actual embassy website (which I am guessing is what I should go by, I just want to make sure I'm reading it right).

So - when do we pay the embassy fee? The embassy website say, "K Visa Applicants pay the fee to the Operator Assisted Information Service prior to attending the visa interview. Instructions concerning payment will be sent to you with the appointment letter." However, some people on this forum have said that they will not give you an appointment letter until they have payment.

We have schedule our medical, will be sending in DS-2001 and supporting forms next week...do we wait for the appointment letter or call and pay next week as well??

Thank you so much - I will keep a look out for your updates!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresThe Dreaded VSC -.-
Not from Canada - but 125 days for us. I'm not sure at this point it matters too terribly much what country you are coming from...I think things start to change and become more country/embassy related after the NOA2. Good luck.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresThe wait.
When I went to the UK in February - I dealt with the same exact thing! I think I was questioned for at least 15 minutes. I was so nervous about it all that the further into the questioning we got the more suspect I probably looked! Lol

However, I was SHOCKED when I went through customs this time! I went right up to the man, gave him my passport and prepared myself for the interrogation. All he asked was where I was headed (Scotland), why (to visit my Fiance), and for how long (2 weeks). He smiled and told me to enjoy my stay. I was stunned, but, happy!!

My guess is it all depends on the worker, time of day, and how big the line is...who knows! But if you head back over - good luck! I hate that part of the trip the most!

Oh! And it took us 125 (+/- a day or so) from NOA1-NOA2. We are now just waiting for packet three - I called DOS yesterday and they confirmed that London had logged the case - so that should be to my fiance any day now. Our medical is already scheduled for Sept 6th!

Good luck!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresScheduling an interview in London...
We got packet 3!!! WIll be sending it right back out today!!! Now just to wait for the interview as the medical is already setup for Sept 6th! Wooohooo!! Anybody out there that went through London with visa in hand? The best I could do via timeline on here was looking like it was about 3-4 weeks from when they get your packet 3 to when they give you an appointment date. And the appointment date is usually about 2-3 weeks out from then...so we're looking at about 7 weeks or so until the interview??

1) Medical Booked for Sept 6th
2) Packet 3 sent (with cover letter and required documents)
3) We will wait to pay the visa amount when we receive the appointment date

Is that all we have to do from now until the interview? Are we missing anything? One more thing - from what I've read, we will receive an appointment letter. So, I'm assuming we don't pick the interview date - they just give us one. Right?

Thanks!

Inky - thanks! I read one post where the person sent it with packet three and freaked out - even though I'm sure I've read elsewhere to bring it to the interview! My fiance sent out packet 3 today - so of course - last minute freaking on my end since I wasn't there to see it myself! Lol

Ashlyn&Grevin - I had no problem getting it, however, it did cost $10. I'm not sure I'll be sending it. A lot of people have said since I meet income requirements, have my tax transcripts and letter from my employer I will not need it. So, I'm debating on sending it or not (b/c my average saving account is not very high even though my checking account balance is)...

Okay, I will copy things. So, your friend did not get RFE'd for sending it all? Good to know! Did he get an interview date rather promptly, or did it take extra time b/c they had to go through everything?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPlease Help!!! I think we made a huge mistake...
So - my fiance ended up sending EVERYTHING to the embassy. I gave him clear directions on what forms, including the cover letter, forms and DS-2001 to send out.

However, instead of following my directions (he was in a bit of a hurry) - he sent the entire packet we had collected for him to bring to the interview. This includes my 134f, letter from employer, tax transcripts, copy of the NOA2 etc...

What will this mean? Will we have an RFE because he sent too much? Will it delay us getting an interview? Do to I need to resend him this information so he has it for himself at the interview? I have a copy or can make a copy of everything that was in that packet.

Honesty is the best policy. Even if it means a bit of extra questioning. Tell them you will be 1/2 at his parents 1/2 at a resort.

Alright, great! Thanks! I guess I just figure since we had delivery confirmation they'd have something on file! I've heard that it's not uncommon for London to misplace a file - so I didn't know how long to give it before it was considered lost. Lol

I'll call them again next Friday :) My fiance's medical is on the 6th - so I guess as long as it's logged before then we're okay :) :)

I see that many people list when the embassy logged their paperwork. How do you know this? Does DOS have this information? Should I call them? We had confirmation delivery with our packet 3 - however, I'd like to know that London has actually logged it. Is this possible?

So, my question for you guys is: How do you know when your packet has been lost or misplaced? How long did you wait to send another packet? We have delivery confirmation that the London embassy got our packet three on Tuesday, however, there is no note of it in the DOS system. I know this is typical, but how long do you wait until you decide it's been lost and send another?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMarrying a Studient/Poverty Level

Yes, USC petitioners can use assets to offset any shortcomings in their income. However, I was speaking of the visa applicant, which would be the beneficiary applying for the K-1 visa in London. He is the one making the posts here on VJ.

Hmm - that's interesting - I've never seen that mentioned before. I wonder how successful people are at claiming they are not a public charge using their own bank account...
