IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Procedureswhat is choice of agent???
Hi smile.gif I am also Cdn married to USCitizen and going the CR1 route. I chose myself as agent and was then sent copies of notices, requests for this and that etc etc. My husband also received copies and of course he got things quicker than I did because of mine having to cross the border into canada. You can't lose by naming yourself as agent. Good luck with everything!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsWhere the hell is our NOA2?

This whole process of waiting for our visa is beginning to become a joke! Why are people's petitions submitted in August 2012 being processed before July filers?? Even if we call to find out the status of our petition, they cannot even tell us. Beyond frustrated! We can't even send an e request because according to USCIS website, we are within the processing times. The website date is stating July 2nd and our processing date is July 17th! However, we are seeing people who petitioned mid August who have been approved.

On top of it all, my fiancé and I are raising a 3 week old baby. I wish they would just give us an answer! Otherwise we are seriously considering moving to Australia.

FYI, I know the Vermont Service Center is processing July petitions now. I am a July filer and I just got notice that I will be getting an RFE this past week.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsFinally!!! A honest Answer from CSC!!
I think the Nov/Dec are the exception at best. Most of the NOA2 coming out now are for Jul/Aug/Sep filers. From what I concluded 7 months was the average in the past couple of years.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsJust Called USCIS October Filer

Hi all,

Just wanted to share. This was my first experience calling USCIS, I'm October 24th NOA1 at VSC so my 5 months have past now. She asked me how long has it been, I said more then 5mo now, more then the time line on your website, so she said "ok I will file a service request for you", then she asked what is the date on the NOA1, I said 10/24, and she goes "oh well its within our processing time, we are currently processing 10/1, wait about 23 day." There is nothing worst then waiting for something and not knowing, I can't even begin to describe it. At this point I don't know if I'm just venting or what.

This process requires a lot of patience. I am not sure where the 5 months came from. from my understanding and experience it is 6 - 7 months. Either way you have made it most of the way through the waiting.

United KingdomLet's do a thread on how we pass the time while waiting
Well, I work full time and I am also finishing up my masters program, which includes a thesis paper, so I'm pretty busy! But, I'm still finding some down time. I read, go to the gym and recently I've started baking again. This morning I made cupcakes for my co-teachers. It kept me busy and the calories are out of the house as I will be bringing them to work with me tomorrow!

I will often times buy cards to send to him - it only takes a 98 cent stamp to send and lately they've been getting there within 5-6 business days. But, shopping for just the right card and then writing something for him that I know will make him smile helps to pass the time a bit too...

Of course, we Skype about every 2 days for about 1-2 hours. I wish it was more, but, our schedules don't alway mix that well with the time difference! We email all day long though. We've also agreed to put off wedding talk until there is an interview date. We are focusing on the immediate next step only - and that seems to have helped a lot.

I like the idea of watching youtube movies/shows together, I will have to check that out!!

Rugby - Yeah, I'm not expecting packet 4 yet - I just want them to log actually having my packet three!!

Aorobert - My congresswoman was supposed to email them today if nothing was logged (which it wasn't). I will follow up with her tomorrow. I just don't know how long it will take London to reply to her email. She said she had a congressional email - so perhaps that will make them a bit faster at replying?? If we don't hear anything by the end of the week then we will start getting everything ready to send out - again - but my question is - how do we make sure they don't lose the second package too!? We had delivery confirmation on the first one, and apparently, that didn't do much good!!!

I'm in a pretty foul mood over this tonight...

That's what we thought. Both of us were certain that they just told him it would slow us down so he didn't get upset. Lol I have a good feeling that they will have held onto his paperwork, because if it was only for his personal health, then why would they require a second appointment (Btw - they are making him pay the appointment fee again for the follow-up appointment!) . I will have him call on Monday morning, as it should have been sent by then.

Thanks again!

Nich-Nick - oooh thank you! I didn't realize they waited to have both, I was under the impression that the logged the medical and the packet 3 separately.

About the medical - some type of results should be there on Monday (He had his medical on Tuesday). However, the doctor needed to do additional blood work b/c Allan had lived in/visited multiple "high risk" countries during his military years. So - he is having Allan return on the 27th to receive the results and give him the final 3 immunizations he needs. The doctor assured him that this would not have an impact on his ability to be "interview ready" - so we are assuming they will send some kind of results from the medical now - and the rest at the end of the month. Have you ever heard of this? Will they send them separately?

United KingdomStill waiting...
Bigdog: I'm not sure what " return receipt" is...we sent it by Royal Post 1 day delivery w/ delivery confirmation - is that the same?

Sunshine Times: Ooo I hope you're right! We tried to get the email code on Thursday, but after 15 minutes on the hotline Allan got disconnected. He was so grumpy about getting disconnected for a call that would cost him almost 20 pounds, I decided to see if the congresswoman could do anything. So, if we don't hear from her by Wednesday/Thursday I will have him call and get the email code again. She said she has a special "congressional email" that typically is answered pretty fast.

Here's hoping. It's just hard to sit and wait patiently with a smile on my face when there is no guarantee they have it yet. I'd happily wait weeks upon weeks (okay, maybe not happily but surely I wouldn't be worried/stressed) if the embassy just acknowledged our paperwork!! Lol

So - as of today our packet three is still not logged. It will be 3 weeks on Tuesday since we have confirmation of receipt!

I spoke to my congresswoman on Wednesday. She said she spoke to a "contact" at DOS and told her to wait until the 3 week mark and if we still haven't been logged to email the embassy. So, she will be emailing London on Tuesday to see what's up.

My question: If they cannot find our packet three, which seems to be happening quite a bit lately, what are our next steps? How do we insure that the next time we send it (we will send it out asap once we have notice that they do not have it) that it will not get lost AGAIN?! Also - does this mean that we have to wait another 2-3 weeks for them to log it?

Seriously, I'm just worried at this point that they will lose it AGAIN...

I just feel so frustrated that it's even a possibility that they could have lost it the first time...

Btw - I want to call them and get an email code to see where exactly my packet three is!
cmoore25FemaleScotland2011-09-13 11:48:00
United KingdomCalling the Embassy from USA?
So, today marks week 3 of having our packet submitted and confirmed delivery at the London Embassy. I would like to call and get an email code (if I don't hear from our congresswoman today or tomorrow), however, I'm not sure what number to call. On the website it says:

"For Operator Assisted Visa Information call 09042-450100 (this is NOT a London number. It does not require any other prefix or dialling code.)

Service available Monday through Friday, 8.00 a.m. until 9.00 p.m., and on Saturdays from 09.00 a.m. until 4.00 p.m.; £1.23/min plus network extras; only available in the U.K., within U.K. may be unavailable from some business telephones and mobile networks."

So, can you only call the London embassy if you are in the UK? Is there a way to call from the US?? My fiance, of course, can call - but after his last experience of calling and being on hold for 15 minutes and then being disconnected, he's a bit frustrated, so I figured I would call instead if I could.

Thanks :)

United KingdomPacket 3 - still not logged...
So, our packet three still hasn't been logged. It will be 4 weeks since delivery confirmation next Tuesday.

My fiance finally called the embassy - and they said the normal processing time to log packet three is 4 weeks. I find this insane, but, whatever! So - they will not give him an email code until the 4 week mark (next Tuesday). So we are still waiting.

My congresswoman emailed the Embassy this past Tuesday, but I'm assuming she hasn't heard back from them, as I haven't heard from her.

So - we continue to wait. If it is not logged by next week, and we have to resubmit our packet 3, how do we guarantee this one gets there and gets logged? We had deliver/signature confirmation this time as people suggested. I just feel like we (possibly) wasted four weeks just to have our packet logged...I don't want to waste another 4 weeks next time.

Has anybody had to resubmit their packet three? If so - did things go faster the second time around??

United KingdomPacket 3 to Interview Letter Time Frame
We sent in packet three on the 22nd of August with a delivery confirmation of the 23rd of August. Tuesday of this week marked week 3 for the embassy having our info - and still we hadn't heard anything. I had introduced myself to our congresswoman right after we got our NOA1, told her that we hoped our process would go smoothly, but if it didn't, we looked forward to working with her. We have kept in contact with each other since then. So, on Tuesday, I got a bit impatient, called her, and she emailed London on Wednesday. Magically, when I called DOS this morning, it was logged!!!!

So, now we are waiting for our medical to be logged. He went on Sept 6th, but needed some follow-up blood work. So, he will go back down on the 27th for the results and final 3 immunizations. Hopefully it won't be long after that.

Good luck!!

Thanks :) I have done a little digging, and it looks like it has to be done before the child is 18...but, still searching - there must be a loop hole or something!! Lol

United KingdomDual Citizenship question?
How long does a child (born in the US) of a UK born citizen have to file for dual citizenship? Does it need to be immediate? Or can they do it when they are adults?

The reason I ask is - my father, grandmother etc are all UK born citizens. Eventually Allan and I would like to move back to the UK (4-5 years). I was thinking it might make it easier to move back if I applied for dual citizenship. Also, I was thinking it might make travel for visits to/from the UK much easier for now too...

What? I can't understand why the visa would be void if you stopped in Canada! That's strange!
cmoore25FemaleScotland2011-09-19 17:58:00
United KingdomPacket 3 still not logged...
We were in the same boat last week - actually, today was our 4 week mark. I ended up getting my congresswoman involved - she contacted them on Monday evening (London would have gotten the email on Tuesday) and magically on Thursday morning our case was found and logged!! I know you feel, as soon as we hit the three week mark I was very grumpy and frustrated!

One of the last women I spoke to at DOS said she used to work at the London embassy - she said August/beginning of September is a crazy month and things get slowed down quite a bit b/c people are being reassigned - etc - so that is why people who sent it in in that time frame might be waiting longer than normal -they are just back logged b/c they are working on a skeleton staff. Not sure how true that is - or if she really even worked there - but it made sense to me...
cmoore25FemaleScotland2011-09-20 19:31:00
United KingdomA nice surprise - finally!
Micmac - I hope we are that lucky! According to DOS, we've been ready for an interview date for 2 weeks - so hopefully we hear something next week! But, I know it can take longer...at least we are nearing the end!
cmoore25FemaleScotland2011-09-29 18:12:00
United KingdomA nice surprise - finally!
They photocopied his police certificate on the Sept 6th medical, but, apparently already sent that to the embassy. So, when he went for his second medical this Tuesday, they didn't have the photocopy, and he didn't think to bring the original again as they already had it! So, he emailed it to them and all is well.

Back in the waiting game, however, it's nice to know that we have already done two weeks without knowing it. I know everybody is different, but is there an average wait time from when packet 3 is logged to when you receive packet 4? I was thinking it was about 4-5 weeks...
cmoore25FemaleScotland2011-09-29 11:49:00
United KingdomA nice surprise - finally!
So, I called DOS today to check on our case.

We had to do two medicals, one was Sept 6th, the other was yesterday. The doctor said nothing would be sent to the embassy until yesterday - but then yesterday - the doctor needed another police certificate b/c he had sent the original to the embassy. So, today, I thought, I'll just call DOS and see if they have anything on file. To my surprise, she said that we were marked "interview ready" on Sept 15th - so I've done two weeks of waiting for an interview date without knowing I did!! Lol A nice surprise!!

Hopefully our interview date doesn't take too much longer to receive! I'm so excited to be this far in the process!!

Should we put in a change of address with the London embassy on Monday morning?? If so - do we just call to update this? Or is there an official form?

Hmm...that might work, except his renter will need to have the mailbox be working - as they will be moving in asap...he was putting in a change of address today - ugh...of course this wasn't going to be easy!!!

Can we contact the embassy if he does not receive his letter? Will they resend it to a new address? Or can he enter w/out one?

Ugh - that's not good! The move will take place this weekend most likely.

What do we do in that situation? He moves before he gets his letter and it's not forwarded???

United KingdomMoving before interview...
My fiance will be renting out his flat and moving in with his mom for the rest of the process. All of his mail will be forwarded to his mothers address. I know that changing the address can often mess up the process as they don't always get it right - and right now, we can get our interview date (packet 4) at anytime. My only concern is, when he goes to his interview, can he have his passport sent to a different address than the one that is listed in the paperwork? So, instead of putting the address of his flat, can he give his mother's address?

Thanks :)

United KingdomWaiting for police certificate from Malaysia
We had to get police certificates from a few different places as well. Shockingly - the one that took the longest was from Australia! It took nearly 2 months - even though their site states it will be much faster. We ordered all of our police certificates as soon as we had our NOA2 and the Australia certificate came right after (by a day or so) my fiance received his packet three.

Crazy!!

I'd love to see the spreadsheet if/when you do it! Sounds like a great idea. I wonder if the wait time has more to do with when the packet is logged - or when you are marked interview ready (both packet & medical)...
