We have used Remithome.com, Moneygram and Western union and only had a problem once, it seams one of my wifes brothers has a name that matches a name on some list and it took a couple of extra days for the money to clear. It was under $1,000 and we have had no problems sending to any other person.

PhilippinesMachine Readable Passport
Just a little FYI about the consulate in Chicago,

There is a Wallgreens/CVS,I do not remember which one, next to the consulate the has the ability to take the passport picture with the blue background, you will need 4 pictures if you are also reporting your marriage plus 2 of your husband.

One block away there is an office supply store with photo copiers to make copies after you affix your pictures, they also have a glue stick available for you to stick the pictures on the applications.

We just answered "ignorace of the requirement" on the delayed report of marriage for the question asking why we did not report it within 1 year, which you will need to fill out if your did not report your marriage within 1 year.

Make sure you bring a pre-paid express mail envelope with you, addressed to yourself, so they can mail the passport and report of marriage to you after they receive it back from the Philippines.

I guess my question is should I order both GMA & TFC or just TFC? It's $25/mo for both vs $12 for one... Trying to gauge if there's enough different content to warrant it.

With U-Verse if you subscribe to both TFC and GMA you also get Viva, which is all movies. We had both for about 6 months and my wife told me to only get TFC because she did not watch GMA or the movies enough.

PhilippinesCan anyone in the Philippines (in Manila) do me a favor??

This may be sound stupid but is there someone nice enough in the Manila area that will do me a HUGE favor..? I know you don't know me but I'm SO desperate... my birth certificate is severely damaged and I need to have it replaced.. I've gone to the e-census website to order a replacement and the National Statistics office told me that they can't find me in their system and that I would need to have someone come to the City Civil Registrar's office personally to endorse my birth record to the National Statistics Office (NSO)... believe me, I've tried to contact family members in the Philippines to ask if they could do it for me but everyone seems to be "too busy". I've also tried to call the City Civil Registry office to see if there is anyway I could get around that and they told me the same thing... if someone out there can help me, please contact me! :help:

Seems to me you did not offer enough "compensation". I bet they are not too busy if the price is right.

PhilippinesPhilippines Honeymoon Ideas

Hi VJ Friends!

Me and my Filipina fiancee will be having a wedding in PH in mid-January 2011. I would like to plan a nice Honeymoon for us, but I know she is tired of always going to hot and sunny sandy beaches. I'm curious if anyone has some suggestions for a nice resort or hotel - where we can have many activites, but not all beaches and swimming. Of course, I suggested Baguio - but she's already been there several times, and I'd kinda like to take her somewhere she's never been.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!!

Thanks.

Good luck if you think she will have her interview, medical, visa, arrive in the US, get married in the US, apply for AOS and advance parole, biometrics, any immuzations you missed and receive advance parole before January. If you get married in Philippines then you are not eligble for a fiance visa and must reapply for a CR1, money wasted on the K1.

PhilippinesREPORT OF MARRIAGE & AMENDMENT

Thank you guys for the help!.....I guess i will just report my marriage first in L.A consulate because that's where our marriage jurisdiction is and attend the outreach in April then for renewal of passport. By the way damulag, how can you apply for new passport by mail? You have to be in person to do this, right? they don't accept mailing nowadays......

I'm sorry to say this, but our consulate are sooo ridiculous. They don't have proper system in taking care of there filipinos abroad, sad but true. :crying:

She applied in person, you need to bring the pre paid envelope because the Philippine consulate will send the info back to the Philippines for the passport production and they will send it back to the consulate and then they will use the envelope to mail you the passport and record of marriage.

PhilippinesREPORT OF MARRIAGE & AMENDMENT
My wife submitted both the report of marriage and the application for the new passport (old green one expiring) at the same time in Chicago. Around 5 weeks later she received the new passport with her married name and the NSO stamped receipt for the report of marriage in the mail. We had to supply a paid self addressed priority mail envelope with the application.

PhilippinesFuneral traditons
They keep the body in the funeral home IF you have the money. When my father in law died he was in the house (embalmed and in a casket) until we arrived and then up to the day of the funeral. People there 24 hours a day and the body is never left alone. It was like a family reunion. I also attended a funeral that the body was kept at the funeral home and there was a bedroom attached to each chapel so the body was never left alone.

Yep, pony up for the 40 days and then the annual "death anniversery" plus they all gather at the cemetary on November 1st for all souls day.

Interesting that when all of the relatives/neighbors gather for food/conversation/eating/card playing that some of the pot/winnings from each hand went into a jar to help with the costs.

There was also a couple of guys who traveled around the city and set up food stands at the homes of the deceased.

PhilippinesWhere can i pick up plane ticket
If I were you I would ask the person who bought the plane ticket to go to the closest Delta ticket counter and show their id. This will keep it from being an issue. I talked with a Delta ticket agent at the airport and they said a copy will not work if there is a notation regarding an id in their system. The person who purchased the ticket can go to any Delta counter anytime before the flight and show their id.

When the time comes I want to fly to the Philippines to pick up my fiancee. How is the best way to do this? Since round trip tickets are cheaper
than one way I thought about just purchasing two round trip tickets eventhough her seat would not be used going to the Philippines just coming back. Is this a possibility? Or is there another way of handeling this situation?

If the person does not show up for the first leg of a roundtrip ticket the REST of the ticket will be CANCELLED.

PhilippinesTraveler's Checks
My first trip I brought traverlers checks and it was such a pain to cash them. Next time I took $100 bills and just exchanged them and used my credit card for purchases from companies that took them and ATM if I needed extra cash. If you have a capital one visa they do not charge a foreign exchange fee, most credit cards add on 1% to 3% on top. You might consider sending a moneygram to your self before leaving and picking it up in the Philippines.

PhilippinesWife as Joint Owner of Credit card account
I added my wife as an authorized user on a credit card I had for close to 20 years (with no lates reporting), it reported on her credit report as an authorized user with the notation that the credit account was started before her social security number was issued. Doing this gave her credit report a reporting account.

Next we applied for a joint Kohls card and it reported.

She was then able to apply for a victorias secret card on her own.

Two years after she arrived we purchased a vehicle with a joint application and her credit score was around 770.

She now has a Gap and JCPenney's card.

By adding your spouse as a joint or authorized user to a account you allready have will not affect your credit score in anyway, no new inquiries or credit lines.

Under a manual review they might notice the account reporting for longer than the person has had a SS number.

If you do not have good credit or the account you want to add the spouse on has lates or over limits, or high utilization (amount owed versus credit line) reporting do not add them to it. Only add them to an account that is pristine. If you do not have one then the next best thing is to find a local bank or credit union that will let your spouse open a secured credit card, which has the credit line secured with a CD or savings account that you can not let drop below the credit line. After a year or so some banks will change the account to unsecured or you may have to apply for another account.

After this try and build credit slowly, part of your credit score is based on average age of accounts so do not apply for too many cards that you will not want to keep, for example ones with high annual fees, because one you close one the account will eventally drop off of your credit report and you will get no benefit of the age. So better to go for quality rather than quantity for the long run.

You need to work on this early so if you need to apply for a joint mortgage or vehicle loan the immirants low credit or no credit score will not affect the approval/interest rate of the loan.

Since you are starting out with credt and have a zero balance do your self a favor and Pay In Full each month, do not carry balances month to month. Years from now you will be happy you do not have consumer debt.

PhilippinesInformation on flying here requested.

Looking around I noticed that most airlines are making this reqirement:

I called Hawaiian airlines and was told by an agent that the only way to get around this was to show up at my local airport and purchase the ticket from the airlne ticket counter.

Any thoughts on the info they gave? It's something you might want to look into.

The gate agent for Delta told me that you could purchase the ticket online and anytime before the flight show up at any Delta ticket counter and show your id and credit card.

Just go to the nearest airline ticket counter from whom you purchased the ticket and show them your id, this is a better way than sending a copy of credit card and id. This way you know there will not be an issue.

It is illegal for any incoming or outgoing passenger to bring in or out Philippine Pesos in excess of P10,000.00 without prior authority from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas. Any violation of this rule may lead to its seizure and civil penalties and/or criminal prosecution. (BSP Circular 98-1995)

The transportation of foreign currency or monetary instruments is legal. However, the carrying of foreign currency in excess of US$10,0000.00 or its equivalent in other foreign currencies must be declared to a Customs Officer or the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas. Philippinesneed help regarding E-tickets of Delta Air
The person who purchased the ticket (the one with the name on the credit card) would be advised to go to t Delta ticket window at their local airport and show their id. There have been accounts on this board that delta has refused boarding if the person with the ticket does not have the credit card with them. I aksed at a Delta ticket counter when at the airport and they confirmed that sometimes when tickets are purchased in the US for flights originating in foreign countries and the person who purchased the ticket is not traveling that they may ask for the credit card at the airport. The easiest thing is for the person named on the credit card to go to their nearest Delta ticket counter sometime before the flight and show an id. Not saying you will be asked everytime but it would suck to get to the airport and not be able to board. Better be safe than sorry.

When I tried to purchase the ticket for my fiance I noticed on the purchasing agrement that it stated something about showing the credit card at the departure airport. I ended up sending her the money and she purchased the ticket locally.
