CanadaK3 Montreal Package 3
evergreen: how long between sending your checklist and your interview date? (It's not recorded yet in your timeline.)
Jersey GirlFemaleCanada2006-09-19 19:08:00
CanadaK3 Montreal Package 3
We sent back the checklist and DS-230 Part 1. But there was no Part 2 in the package. Is this something we fill out at the Embassy? Or should I call them and ask?

According to
Montreal Info
Package 3 contains:

"Checklist
DS-230
DS-156
DS-156K
I-134

Be sure to use their forms. Montreal is very picky about using the forms that were included in your Packet 3
If you filed for CR-1, only ds230."

However, there was no DS-156K, either. Is that because the immigrant is a spouse and not a finace?

CanadaMontreal Packet 3
Stay calm, kiddo, everything will turn out fine. There's no such thing as "losing days," because nothing's guaranteed (time-wise, that is) and there are "delays" on our parts as well as theirs. Yes, it's crazy-making for us all, but just put one foot in front of the other. Fill in the forms and draw your great big K. (Mine had a giant K3 printed in the top left.) Listen to some zen music. And remember what stressed-out maniacs we were waiting for NOA2's!

CanadaMontreal Packet 3
Perhaps another K1 (Montreal) could give the dates on the bottoms of Package 3 forms. Then you could compare them with what your lawyer sends, just to put your mind at rest.

For what it's worth, here's what came for K3:

Checklist - Page 1 - Updated 03/03/06, Page 2 - Updated 12/08/05
I-134 (Rev. 06/17/04)N
DS-230 Part 1 - 07-2004
DS- 156 - 02-2003

Canadapkg 4 and interview
billsgirl, I'm imagining a 3-month wait for a K3 interview. A K1 may be a week or two sooner. All I can go by are the stats on this site, which are scant, and don't take into consideration the entire universe of K visas (and others) interviewing in Montreal.

I've already spent all my energy and sanity waiting for the NOA2. Now, it's another 2-4 month wait. All we can do is remain calm, be sure we have all our documents, and have a plan to spend the time wisely. That would be opening another 2-4, eh?

There must be a statistic somewhere ... that couples who go through the immigration process are stronger and less likely to divorce. Maybe that's the silver lining in all the waiting, the angst, the expense, the gray hair. Kaitia64, thank you for reminding us that there's a happy ending!

CanadaChecklist
We're waiting for the letter inviting us to the K3 interview in Montreal. As soon as it comes, we'll book the medical. I figure we'll have a 6-week window ... plenty of time for the medical and notarizing the I-134. Yes, the checklist states you should have everything done before sending it, but no one does. Especially since there could be a 3 or 4 month wait for an interview once they get the checklist.

CanadaLetter of Compliance from Ford of Canada
My letter from Honda (a year ago) was free. It came from Honda in California. Maybe it's the Canadian offices that are charging money ...

When I imported the car to New Jersey, it cost $330 U.S. to change the dashbord from metric, which is a good idea. There were also costs to register, inspect, and title the car. Not to mention insurance, which was very high, since they treated me as if I were a brand new driver with no history of good behaviour.

Progressive Direct was roughly $1800 U.S. a year (for two drivers in NJ). After a 6-month "history," Geico gave me a huge discount and I now pay half that ... about $900 a year.

Congratulations, J&K! If we can make any guesstimates based on your case, the interview comes roughly 3 months from the checklist. Not ideal, especially in winter, but better than 2007!

Any chairs left in this waiting room? We just returned our checklist and DS230. My concern is driving to Montreal (from New Jersey) in winter. As time stretches on, the train looks better and better.

Hi Leafgal, we may be in the same boat. Originally, we were hoping for November, but the Embassy copied the postal code wrong, so Package 3 took 18 days to go from Montreal to Toronto! Who knows how much time that may have added...

I was gambling that K3 would be quicker, and stopped submitting forms and fees for the approved I-130. But this is not turning out to be quick at all. I supposed all the visas Montreal handles, including I-130s, are in Waiting Room Hell. S**t! I thought we were in the home stretch!

CanadaHappy Canadian Thanksgiving (a couple days early)
I'm thankful for my Canadian husband, even though he's 500 miles away in Toronto and I haven't seen him since March.

I'm thankful for this past year, even though it has been difficult to be a celibate newlywed.

I'm thankful that I'm still young enough to reinvent my life, making big changes that affect so many people.

Most of all, I'm thankful to the God of second chances. His sense of humour is so refined that he has gone along with all my nutty plans and has granted my prayers.

Happy Thanksgiving to all you Canucks, eh?

Congratulations, Buttons. It occured to me that K3 couples spend their first year of marriage being celibate. So how about spending a day in bed? Champagne, strawberries, lingerie, massage oils ... you get the picture.

Canadaevidence of relationship - what to bring to interview
You don't want to waste paper and ink?! Get a grip! This is your future together and worth printing a few items, just in case. While they may not be necessary, you can never predict. So it's better to be overly prepared.

I think there was someone in another thread who received one form for Affidavit of Support but took it upon themselves to do both, I-134 AND I-864. How paranoid is THAT? But sure enough, the Embassy had sent the wrong form and the couple was able to whip out the other, filled out and ready to go.

I say this because no one should take any chances when they're in the home stretch, because things can and have gone wrong. Was it BC_Ed who got to the inteview to find Canadian-based assets could not be counted as evidence for support? It added unexpected time to his process.

Get printing.

Hang loose jg. The government has always been predictable in their unpredictability. And people here have gotten tons of conflicting information from the misinformation lines. Just let go of any definite dates for a wedding. Get married when you can!

CanadaCANADIAN THANKSGIVING
Thanksgiving has always been a weird holiday for us dual citizens. It seems to come too early if you're in Canada. And no one there wants to roast a bird in November. Confusing.

But it IS the holiday of the harvest, which comes earlier in the north, and I hear it's been chilly in Toronto, going down to near freezing. Here in Jersey, it's a lot milder, and will stay pleasant for another month.

So here I am in northern New Jersey, by myself, and working on Monday. Maybe I'll go to Dunkin Donuts to see if they have a turkey favoured muffin. They seem to have everything else!

CanadaArrived in Boston!
Congratulations and welcome to the States. Glad to hear something on this journey can go smoothly!
Jersey GirlFemaleCanada2006-10-09 21:36:00
CanadaSlightly confused.
Yes, many of us are dual citizens of Canada and the U.S. You do not have to give up one or the other. But if you become an American, and later move back to Canada, you will still be liable for income tax in the States no matter where you live. Something to be aware of.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresI need some information on what we should do
Ooopps, I misunderstood. So, congratulations on your Christmas wedding, jillybeans!

As for her entering the U.S. during the visa process, she should have proof of ties that demonstrate she'll be returning to Canada. You don't have to own a home, own a business, or have a degree. But you do need a collection of things that, taken together, are enough to convince an Immigration Officer she'll be going back.

They like to see: a return airline ticket to Canada, a letter from her employer stating how long her vacation is and when she's expected back at work, an apartment lease, utility bills in her name, and bank statements. Some people add the NOA1 and NOA2 to demonstrate they're going through the process legally.

We hope the only traveling she will do is to come in june for our reception and the go back as soon as it's over.

I wouldn't count on this, since there's always the possibility of her being denied. I'd postpone the party until she's actually here with a K3 visa.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresI need some information on what we should do
It would not be a good idea to marry in Canada and then try to enter the U.S. as a "visitor" who can come without a visa and stay 6 months. That's because she'd be married to an American, and the assumption would be she'd be coming here to live with him. That could be viewed as fraud.

The best idea may be to hold off getting married until she's ready to stay in Canada and wait for the K3. If that has to happen after all the other family events, then plan around that.

There's no guarantee she'll be allowed into the States during the visa process. You'll hear stories here of people who travelled with no problems and others who were denied. It's a gamble.

Look at my timeline, because it shows a Canadian being married in the States (March 2006), then going back to Canada to wait for the K3 visa. It will take about 10 months before he can enter the States again.
