just wanna ask, how long does it take 'til the visa arrives?

Per Delbros website, it takes 5-7 days as the embassy releases the visa, for some friends here, a day after they got a text the visa was delivered. So stay home and wait.hehe.

Congrats!!!

PhilippinesPolice Clearance Concerns for CR1 (DS230 Requirement)
you just need the NBI. the above posts by jose rizal and nbsfb are correct, the police certifacate is needed when you have lived outside of PI for more than 6months after turning 16 years old.

but try securing a police clearance from where you live right now since there was one member here at VJ who got an RFE because NVC asked for a police certificate aside from the NBI clearance they submitted with the DS 230.

i got my ticket last friday at a local travel agency (Destinations Specialist). and guess how much i paid for CEB-LAS???
dancin5hr.gif dancin5hr.gif 580 USD!!! dancin5hr.gif dancin5hr.gif
YES! just 580 USD! it would have been 700++USD but i asked about the first time immigrant discount. can you imagine they slashed off almost 200 USD from the original selling price??? i had a great bargain!!! and this is including the taxes too..

the people from the travel agency were kind enough when i asked them to look for a cheap deal from 3 airlines i suggested and i asked for reviews and what to expect, they handed me several sheets to read..it was worth it..

i'm leaving on the 10th of november!!!! weeepeee!!!!
thanks to everyone who posted their inputs on this ticket thingy, i appreciate it a lot..

OK, here's the receipt for my wife's one way ticket from MNL to LAX paid for in cash. As I said $600. Watch out for unscrupulous travel agents on VJ posting stories about greatly inflated $2400 one way tickets (unless your flying first class!). This was purchased through a walk in travel agency in the Philippines and not through PAL. The agent told her she could have had a cheaper ticket on a different day, but we wanted to meet in LAX on that Friday.

and i must say wow, you indeed got a great deal on your fiance's plane ticket. the cheapest i could find for manila-las vegas was 709 USD. maybe because las vegas is a premiere destination for tourist that's why the fare going there is not much of a good deal..but i'm sure i'll find something cheap, i've been browsing through airlines and local agencies..hopefully i can get my visa soon so i can purchase ticket at the cheapest rate (before the holidays - thanksigiving, election, christmas)..

You can always buy them directly from PAL also, but PAL aren't going to inform you whether another airline has cheaper tickets! There are many connecting flights between Cebu and Manila if that turns out to be the cheaper option.

PAL have high fare rates, i already called them last week and they quoted one-way ticket to LAS for almost 1000 USD (998 USD to be exact). they said it was their cheapest and i was like, the cheapest? this is almost the same price i paid when i went to LA last year for a round trip ticket! crying.gif

Most US banks will not charge for wire transfers if they are done online. However, some Philippine banks will charge for receiving wire transfers even if they do nothing to receive that! Western Union is always an option, but their rates are pretty awful. I only use them in case of emergency, like money needed at very short notice.

he doesn't have to wire me anything, the money is in the bank..just the visa missing. crying.gif

whoah whoah whoah! MJ3lasvegas: please tell your fiance to hold off on that purchase. I am a travel agent. Now your fiance would end up paying more if he purchased the ticket from his end. At the back of my mind, I was wondering why he is adamant about buying the ticket himself - in cash... hmmm. I smell apprehension over money here. But anyway that is beside the point.

Here are what I would do:

1. Check out round trip tickets (you will save A LOT on this deal - one way would cost at least USD2800 and RT promos would be about USD1500). You may opt to reschedule the return flight or just cancel it and get a refund.

2. Buy your ticket here because it is half less than what he would get! This means your fiance will have to wire the money to you. Use Moneygram or Western Union or Xoom, I don't care. Just buy it here. Reason - again is saving hundreds of $.

3. If you need help getting the lowest deal, get in touch with me. I can get you the lowest in the market.

Take care and I am so happy for your K1 process. God bless!

he wants me to buy the ticket in cash here since he wants us to save, considering that when he tried to book one for me, the prices of one-way fare to LAS was way soooooooooooooooo high. so we decided to buy it here instead. delbros has already sent me a text informing me of my visa dispatch (just last night - so YES, i didn't get any good sleep, i was too overwhelmed by the good news!). hopefully if the visa arrives this week, im buying my ticket right after i receive it.

BTW, i'm on IR1 visa. he ain't my fiance, he's my husband already innocent.gif

we tried to call destinations specialist (SM branch). they we able to offer us a good deal through hawaiian airlines from manila cebu and they suggested on booking a separate flight for cebu-manila since they said it's cheaper..i donnu if this is true..but yes, i'm still open for options as to where to purchase my ticket..do you have a landline where i can reach you? what travel agency you from so at least i could stop over and we could talk..

I choose PAL for my fiance.

The main reason is there are PAL offices all over PI, and if she had to do a ticket change or flight change she can find a local office.

I found a better deal on American Airlines straight from PI to Dallas via Japan.

That's my story.

true, PAL has lots of outlet here in PI but my main concern is, their prices are starting to soar HIGH. i saw this great deal at hawaiian airlines, hopefully, i'm booking a flight with them..

but do they have an office or outlet here in cebu?
or can anyone tell e who i can contact to purchase ticket from?
was that NIMFA here in VJ?

hey guys..i'm left with the burden to purchase my ticket to the US..well of course using HIS money..lol tongue.gif
we don't intend to use any credit card in doing so..he prefers to pay it in cash instead, for reasons i really am not sure of..but right now i care less about it. well i looked through online: NWA, HA, PAL and some other sites. i have compared prices and i found great deals from a few airlines. i just don't know how to go about buying the ticket and paying it in cash since i'm used to paying through card.

can anyone guide me through this? i'm from cebu and there isn't much of a choice in airlines out here..i'm really interested on the CEB-LAS flight deal from hawaiian airlines. it's really cheap compared to PAL which is almost 1000 USD one way!!! wacko.gif can anyone help me? ..or maybe at least give me hawaiian airlines number in manila? sad.gif
i remember, there was once a thread on this and there was one member who i guess owns or works in a travel agency that offers great deals..i tried to look for the thread but to no avail, i failed..

so can somebody please guide me through? sad.gif
i'm thinking of buying the ticket this october 24th and i'm looking at a flight set this november, maybe 2nd or 3rd week.

personally i don't think that they put your paper underneath a pile of other applications..this is just mere hearsay..i think grace and lorraine are just fine people who sometimes gets tired of hundreds of calls they attend to everyday.

before i had my visa with me, i used to call MWF to follow-up on my case. both girls were kind enough to take my call as i was telling them my hubby due to time difference. i guess patience is a key to understand them sometimes, they too are humans, vulnerable to fatigue and irritation..

the is no best time or best day to attend the CFO. it just depends on you as to when you wanted to attend the seminar. i attended my CFO right after i got my visa just so to avoid going back for certificate and the sticker if i attend it without visa on hand. i live far from the CFO seminar venue and i hate traffic so i waited for my visa to arrive to do everything in one day's time and not go back..

and NO, you don't need to call for reservations or something. but in cebu, they have aquota of CFO participants per day (15 participants), so i guess it's wise to arrive early..

i was browsing through the USEM website for the purpose to learning as to weither or not there is still a DV.
below is the link to the IR, F and E interview instructions. as you may notice, it has been revised (dated as of October 2008). on the older version of this IV interview intruction, on item #12, DOCUMENTION VERIFICATION was listed as a pre-requisite for interview, NOW: IT HAS CHANGED and the revised edition has not made mention of the DV.

http://manila.usemba...ov/wwwfiven.pdf

i guess this is an indication that DV is NOT needed anymore. what do you think? huh.gif

just to compared the NEW difference, here's item #12 of the OLDER VERSION:
12. DOCUMENT VERIFICATION FEE.
As a standard measure to validate the relationship upon
which the visa petition is based, the Embassy conducts independent verification of civil records directly
with Philippine government agencies before a visa can be issued. These local agencies charge a fee or fees
for the records search, retrieval services and for making copies of public records. If you are the principal
beneficiary of an F2B, F1 or IR1/CR1 category, we strongly encourage you to pay the document
verification fee before your visa interview to avoid unnecessary delay in issuing the visa. The
document verification fee is PHP650. This document verification fee is NOT the visa application fee.
For specific instructions concerning payment, visit our web site at
http://manila.usemba...ov/wwwfdelb.pdf.

now this is what's written on item #12 on the NEWER VERSION:
12. SUPPORTING EVIDENCE IDENTITY AND/OR RELATIONSHIP.
Applicants should be prepared to submit documents that further establish their claimed identity and/or their relationship with the petitioner or the principal applicant. Multiple photographs with the petitioner or principal applicant taken over a significant period of time, personal correspondence, home telephone records, financial records, proof of joint property ownership and/or joint financial obligations, original baptismal records, school records, medical records and adoption decrees are often useful.

i have no idea for the K visas but please for those who underwent the preparation on that visa category previously, please post the NEW difference so we can help enlighten others who are still yet waiting to be interviewed.

yup, i did pay DV september 10.

i don't know how you asked grace..lol. but she told me that since there has been backlogs due to DV for the past months, they have lifted DV for recent applicants. i guess it's true since personally i wasn't asked for DV myself and a few people with same interview as mine was only asked for CENOMAR and other NSO originals. i guess the lifting of the DV is not retroactive..meaning, those still waiting for DV, still needs their DV results while those who just had their interviews at USEM are "lucky enough" not to undergo the DV.

i think the decision to lift the DV is just momentarily..just to remedy the backlog. but right now i'm just happy i didn't undergo the DV. it may not go away (DV), but right now they're somehow lifting it for the mean time..

Philippinesany cheap domestic flights from Iloilo- Manila
it would be cheaper if you book a round-trip ticket a week before your departure. and when you do call to reserve your ticket, ask them for the cheapest flight that day (day of departure)..cebu pacific is nice, i flew through them during my medical and interview. PROS, more or less same service as PAL. CONS, limited legroom and expensive snacks. but anyways, a hour flight won't get you hungry. PAL is nice too, just book through a TA coz they have cheaper flights rather than booking directly through PAL ticketing office, dunno why..

if your friend is on immigrat visa, she can ask for first time immigrant discount which will make her fare even more cheaper.
