If you go there and marry him then everything changes. You can then file for a spouse visa. If you want to bring him to the States, you two MUST meet in person.

You know you're obsessed when you start using Igor's List in casual conversation with people who have NO idea what you're talking about (my mom: "who is Igor?").

rofl.gif SO TRUE!

- You check POE comments when you haven't even received NOA1.
- You check your I-129F Petition copies everyday and try to find mistakes.

I also had a religious wedding prior to my interview. They didn't ask me anything about it (how would they know that anyways?), and I didn't mention it either. Of course, it they asked me about it I would say the truth but I really don't see them asking that. Good luck!

No, you can't change that. Only the consulate in Rio de Janeiro handle immigrant visas.

Even if it was other kind of visas, you are entitled to go to the consulates in your jurisdiction. For example: I live in Maceio, so I can only apply for visas in the Consulate in Recife. Unfortunately that's how they work. Good luck!

I don't see any problems with it as long as the ceremony doesn't make it official (I'm not sure how it works in your country). Be safe and do it once you have your visa in hands. And once again, don't make your marriage LEGAL until you are in the US.

Eu tentaria ensinar as três línguas. smile.gif

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionAffidavit Of Support
Hello everyone,

I've been searching for answers regarding my questions on this forum (and in other websites) and I haven't find a good one yet concerning my problem. Here they are: for the Affidavit of Support, you need supporting documents. My question is, who do I (in this case, my US fiance) show those documents to? Should I take the supporting documents to the consulate with me for my interview or just the Affidavit itself? Is my fiance supposed to mail an Affidavit as well when he applies for the Fiance Visa with VSC or not? Also, my fiance is in the Army so should he just prove he's in the military or is he still supposed to prove he's 125% above poverty line?

I'm sorry if my questions were asked before, thank you!

PS: I'm new here, by the way, so my name is Denise, I'm the fiance from Brazil, my fiance is in NY. Nice to meet you all. good.gif

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionNot Enough Saved. Problem???
All the people I know who have had their interviews (doesn't mean every case I hear from this website), didn't mention anything about how much the petitioners had in their accounts. Since you meet "125% above the poverty line" requirement, do like the others told you to do and just leave it blank. Good luck!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionWhat's Next?
Now you wait until you receive NOA1 in the mail (which should be soon), and then for NOA2 (the approval) which could take a few months, the time frame is different for most people.

Package 3 will be sent to your fiance in their home country (I'm assuming you are the US Citizen), and it will only be sent by the embassy once your case is approved (NOA2) and once it has gone through NVC, which you will know because they inform you by mail. Her local embassy/consulate will send it to her. Package 3 will tell the beneficiary all the documents to gather (to take to the interview) as well as the forms that should be filled out. All you, the USC, will have to do in that phase is send the beneficiary an Affidavit of Support Petition.

Hope this could be of some help. guides6ly.gif

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionToo early to book flight back to the US?
Although the chances of being approved in Germany are high, most people will advise you not to book anything unless you have the visa in your hands. But if you found a good deal, you could go ahead and also buy an airfare protection or something, one that will allow you to change flight dates without losing all the money paid on a previous ticket. Call a travel agent, they can be very helpful. We got a airfare protection from Expedia for an international flight for 39 dollars. Good luck!

He went ahead and got his tax returns from TurboTax, it's easy and we can just print it out from the internet. We are stils waiting on IRS to mail us what we required. If we don't ever get that until the interview, will the TurboTax one suffice? Thanks!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionNo tax returns.
Hello,

My fiance is filling out the Affidavit of Support. Unfortunately, he can't find/doesn't have his tax returns from last year. This is what the consulate states in their website regarding the Affidavit:

18. AFFIDAVIT OF SUPPORT
?? Form I-134,
?? Last federal income tax,
?? Proof of citizenship or green card

I e-mailed them asking if bank statements or a bank letter and an Army employment letter (showing his earnings) would suffice instead of tax returns, and their answer was "check our website". dry.gif

So, since they aren't going to tell me, do you guys know if we will be ok or not? Thanks!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionDS-156
Hello,

Question 36 on the DS-156 form: Has Anyone Ever Filed an Immigrant Visa Petition on Your Behalf?

I would say YES for that question. I'm using the VisaJourney example forms for guidance and it says to check NO. I'm very confused. If my fiance filed an I-129F Petition on my behalf so I could migrate to the USA, then shouldn't I answer YES to that question? Hope you can help me with this one.

Thank you!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionNOA2 expiration date
Hello everyone,

I was wondering if the expiration date on the NOA2 is only for the interview, or is it supposed to still be valid for the time when I apply for AOS? My visa interview is on August 27th, NOA2 expires on October 4th. This gives me much time, I know, but we were planning on a trip to the US after the 4th. Will we be ok or should I just go to the US as soon as the visa is issued?

Thanks!

Not sure about Peru but here in Brazil I paid 130 dollars for the medical (not including exams since my health insurance covered those and the vaccines because I had already taken them). The visa fee is 131 dollars here.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionWrong Info on G-325A
Hello,

I realized that, on the G-325A, on the jobs question, I put the wrong length of time for one of the jobs. My petition was approved and forwarded to the consulate, and my interview is next week. What do I do? Do I put the real info on the forms for the interview and tell the consul I made a mistake on my G-325A form? It is relevant because it concerns a job while I was in the States, I don't want them thinking I worked with the wrong visa. If that kind of information is wrong, will i have to reschedule my interview? What's the protocol for wrong/mispelled info? Please help.

I'm not sure about the interview but as for the I-129F Petition, the e-mails exchanged between us that we sent to USCIS were pasted on Microsoft Word and printed from there. We had no problem. Good luck!

You don't need emails for the I-129F initial petition. You only have to prove you met in person.

True. We just thought that some proof of ongoing relationship wouldn't hurt.

I would recommend being honest (obviously), but without volunteering unnecessary information. If the consular official doesn't specifically ask something that would potentially not work in your favor, I don't see the reason behind providing that reason. There are numerous tales and postings here on VJ where doing something like that came back to haunt the beneficiary.

So let me see if I got that right. You think I should say NO to that question. If the consul ends up asking if I worked during that period, then I will say I did and then explain (if they ask me) why I checked NO (because I didn't think I had violated a visa since I had no status)?

Sorry if it sounds like I'm "putting words in your mouth", just trying to understand.

My fiance feels I should answer NO to that question since I didn't have a visa, I was "pending", no status. If I answer NO to that question and tell them I babysat for my host parents a few times after my au pair year was up and I was waiting on an answer from USCIS, would that be ok? I'm not trying to hide the info that I worked from them interviewers, I'm just not sure if I should answer YES to that considering I didn't have a visa.

And I'm really lost here about the waivers. Found nothing on the internet. I'm just trying to sort everything out during this upcoming interview.

US Embassy and Consulate Discussionform DS-156
This concerns those questions you are supposed to check either the box that says YES or NO on the form DS-156.

Where they ask "Have you ever violated the terms of a U.S. visa, or been unlawfully present in, or deported from, the United States?" I think I'm supposed to answer yes. I was an au pair (J1) for a year and after that I applied for a change of status for a tourist visa. While waiting on the approval/denial of that petition, I babysat a few times for my host family. As far as I'm concerned I wasn't supposed to work (oh, do I regret that?). No SSN included but still, illegal. I stayed in the US a little over 5 months since my au pair year was over, and I came back to Brazil as soon as I found out from Infopass that my petition was denied. The denial letter was issued only 2 months after I left the States (just trying to fill you all in).

Anyways, I want to be as honest as I can (my K1 Visa interview is in 5 days). If I check YES on that box, will I be able to file a waiver? Also, would any of you know how that goes? Do I have to schedule another appointment for the waiver or do they give me a waiver right there on the interview? Is there any chance I will get my visa on this upcoming interview? Thanks!

I made the same mistake and it wasn't a problem during the interview (in my case, on the work for the last 5 years question, my answer on the DS-230 was different than on the G-325A).
