K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsIt's all greek to me
Hello everyone. I am new around here. My name is vicki and I am in the middle of the procedure to obtain my K1 visa so I can fly to US and marry my sweetheart who lives in MT and is USC.

So question ---Our I-129F was approved and I recieved the paperwork from the US embasy in Greece just a few days ago.
I am so confused though.
Should I only send back the forms DS-230 Part 1, DS-156 and DS-156K and wait till I have all the paperwork needed
so I can sign the checklist and send that too to the embassy ???
Do I have to complete the form DS-157 or leave it blank?
It's all a huge mountain infront of me
and not being american makes it difficult to understand
cause english is not my native language. :unsure:

Finally received the snail mail approvsl letter... it was dated 9/18. Guess it shouldn't be a big surprise the USCIS website didn't show any touches or updates. At least it showed the card production notification. It's unfortunate they have trouble coming up with a system that works consistantly and reliably.

We picked up Cheryl's visa package at the Delbos office in Cebu on May 23. They were kind enough to text Cheryl as soon as it arrived so we could pick it up and get the CFO sticker in time to make our flight the next day. Arrived LAX May 24. We went through the visitors line together at POE with no problems. Thanks for maintaining this list. It's been a convenient way to see how things are progressing for people going through Manila. Plus all the pearls of wisdom you're shared...

The interview was ok. From the CO, we got was the "everything looks fine" line. There have been so many AR's ... I'll believe it's approved when they release it. BTW, Cheryl received packet 4 on May 3. I suspect they sent (another) one when she requested to pick it up at SLEC.

Congratulations and Good luck on interviews, also!

I'm trying to get things together to send to Mae for an early medical. She has not received the Packet 4. I'm confused if the originals are required of the NOA2 and the NVC letter. She would like to go along with another person from VJ (another Mae, David-Mae Forever) on the 16th, but I'm not sure I have enough time to send the originals, however I can scan and email them. Also is there enough time to have St. Lukes receive the Packet 4 from the embassy?

Cheryl just went though the same thing. I scanned the NOA2 and NVC letter. She took those and a printout of the interview schedule from the website. She called St Lukes a few days before going for the exam and asked to pick up packet 4 there. She called again the next day, and St Lukes had the packet. When she went for the early exam, she picked up the packet and everything was fine. I think what she took was more than enough. Probably only needed a printout from the website, if that.

It may be the exception rather than the rule, but I've heard a few say they received their visa on Saturday, and even one on a Sunday. Guess it's possible, probably not when you really need it though... :unsure:

Questions for the K3's. Sheryl has a friend who will marry an American in the Phils. She was asking where does he get legal capacity to marry. I thought I had read on this thread that he would need to go to the USE in Manila and get it. Am I correct?

I just dont want anyone new to VJ to read this and think an attorney would speed things up only to waste their money. Maybe CSC is just speeding things up?

Yeah, you might be right about the justification! He had worked out a few of my Russian friend's cases when I was working over there, so I thought it wouldn't hurt. You're probably right that it may not actually help at all.

He was gone on vacation to Italy last month, and I suppose my retainer helped pay for that. Oh well! biggrin.gif

I cant see how it could possibly backfire on you. You have custody and the divorce is final. The only one that stands to lose is her, even more so in light of the fact you did get custody. That's like only a 10% chance for the father. If it were me I would do all I could to get her deported. Its not like they can deport your or the child. And they cant sue you or anything.

Well, I am glad yours is moving along well, but I have a weird feeling were going to get hung up on the FBI. I cant help but wonder how many others here are stalled on FBI.

You and I share Nebraska as a service center, but your St. Paul local center has a claimed processing time of 8.6 months, and my Helena, MT local office has a 5 month processing time. So, I should be able to use your timeframe and assume that we will have a interview letter within a month.

When we get it, I plan to request an early interview and swear in. Cant hurt to ask.

When my wife had her I-751 biometrics, we were told 15 minutes later that my wife cleared the FBI check. She just had her N-400 biometrics and when we got home the next day I called the local USCIS office in Helena, MT and asked to verify that my wife had cleared the FBI check. The IO called and she said the FBI checks take "a couple of days". I informed her that my wife cleared FBI within 15 minutes last time, and that surprised the IO. Then I was told we will get a letter in a week or two stating my wife cleared the FBI.

Has anyone gotten a letter about clearing the FBI? Also, has anyone had any problems clearing FBI? I hope we dont have any problems at this stage, because I would imagine the FBI being even more difficult to deal with then USCIS.

From looking at these posts, I dont feel too bad about my situation. We got a biometrics letter within a few short weeks of filing our N-400. I assumed that since we were not told my wife cleared the FBI check within 15 minutes, there may be a problem.

But it looks like the problem is actually getting a biometrics appointment to begin with. Well, its ONE problem among many with the USCIS. I sat and thought about it, and I have basically decided that since my wife does have her 10 year green card, we will no longer limit our plans for the future.

It would be good if she gets her passport before the end of the year, but if she does not, were still going to Canada. The complete and total collapse of America will most likely happen shortly after the November elections, and we plan to be long gone by then.

You may want to consider going to the post office and getting a postal money order. Its as good as cash and gives you a tracking number. Using a POSTAL money order, not a bank money order, may help speed up your processing by a few days.

Ive noted some strange things about Canada over the last few years. Case in point, my wife and I went to one of the main CBP crossing stations to get a study permit. The kid behind the counter, most likely fresh out of college and making a whopping 15 bucks an hour, told us we didnt have sufficient money to warrant a study permit. He suggested we come back with $30,000USD cash in the bank, all tuition paid in advance, and (get this) proof of stocks and bonds. The CIC regulations state proof of $10,000 per-person per-year and I found at least one major college that states clearly that the money does not need to be in the bank, you just need to show you have access to it. My pension is in the $40,000USD range, tax free, but thats not enough?

There seems to be a national myopia/xenophobia developing in Canada. At this rate the current prosperity will run collapse by sheer micro and mismanagement. Oh well, theres always Europe.

As a Canadian, of course you don't want "debate". If there is one thing I have learned about Canadians, its that a strong opinion about anything is considered bad form. You must believe what everyone else believes...or else! I cant be certain, but I suspect Canadians tend to be less "Pro-Canada" then "Anti-America". I think it has something to do with so many Loyalists being deported to Canada after the American war for independence.

Anyhow Nick, as to why Canada suddenly seems unwelcoming. America learned its lessons from Viet Nam. Plus, with have two other points working against us. The so-called "war on terror" and the North American Union. It all coalesces into the "Smart Borders Declaration". This declaration forces the Canadian Border Service to inform the American gov't if any "draft dodgers" attempt to flee into Canada. Plus, the massive flow of goods from the south is covered over in the perception that Canada has a strong border. Basically, drugs, illegal immigrants, and junk from China can move north, but YOU cant.

Im with Nick. Vancouver, to me, seems to have more humanity then any American city.

I look at all nations by the numbers. This isnt always perfect, case in point being the Czech Republic that looks great on paper but in reality is a hell hole. American falls in that category as well. The reality does not match the brochure.

Lets compare Canada with America. The number one factor I consider is how pervasive is the police state. America has the worlds highest prison population rate at 738 per 100,000. Canada has a prisoner rate of 107 per 100,000. So, whats that, a 700% difference between America and Canada?

Second, economy, Alberta is ranked at the second highest per capita income next to Luxembourg. That is pretty impressive. Even more so when you look at the America economy in freefall with massive unemployment, home foreclosures, bank collapses, etc etc.

Then you look at future problems such as the "Reconquista" of the American southwest by aggressive Mexican drug gangs and illegals. Or the growing amounts of racial tensions, such as what we saw during Hurricane Katrina. I don't see much of that stuff in Canada.

To me, life in America basically boils down to swimming in a sea of steroid addled, bug eyed cops running around in a feeding frenzy, wanting nothing more then you beat you, lock you up, plant drugs on you and steal your property. Or, as my wife and I counted a whopping 5 police cars when we drove from Montreal to Calgary...but here in podunk Montana I pass 5 cops on my way to the quicky-mart.

In my opinion, anyone that would turn aside the thriving economy and cohesive society of Canada in favor of the warmongering fascist dictatorship that is America needs a reality check.

Well, since the majority of N-400 cases are for American husbands and foreign ladies, this becomes a political issue. I don't have the energy for a long drawn out diatribe, but suffice to say, feminism (that is in fact based on communism) has fully infected all aspects of American culture and society. Lets just say the disease is terminal. Ill let the "esteemed" political hack Bonnie Erbe fill in the blanks. The sooner American men figure out that they are indeed, at best, second class citizens and at worst worthless (aside from child support and alimony) slaves the better off we will all be.

My wife passed her interview. She was asked 10 questions, including the infamous "original 13 states" one, and got them all correct. She was asked to write a very simple question. We have been scheduled for the swearing in at Billings, Montana about the middle of September. The staff were all pretty helpful but I did a lot of praying. So, by my calculations, my wife will have her US passport within 6 weeks. Its been a long, expensive, miserable, and dehumanizing experience and I am incredibly glad its essentially over.

But this forum has been a great help! Good luck to all other applicants.

Well, we are leaving for Helena tomorrow. I will report back how it all goes, but we are not expecting any problems. I could be wrong, but I think we will be given our swear in date and location after my wife passes her interview. I also think my wife will be given her citizenship form, for lack of a better word, after the swearing in process. Then its off to the post office for expedited 14 day passport processing!

I hope there is someone else that will keep this post alive. Anyone else having any progress at all?

Ya I did some research and found out that you can pay for expedited 2 week service. I was kinda worried that since my wifes swearing in is October, we may not get her passport before Xmas. But if I can pay a little extra and have it back in less then a month, Im all for it.

Its just good to know that in a week we will be done dealing with the USCIS forever. Thats worth any price.

Well, were heading out for our N-400 interview next week. We moved recently, and we did file an AR-11, yet we didn't get a letter letting us know the date. That we got from calling the USCIS. The post office botched the address change, as did the USCIS. A nice guy from a block over actually knocked on our door and gave us the mis-delivered USCIS letter! We plan to give him 50 bucks and a pizza hut gift certificate.

Moral of the story, careful with the address changes and verify everything. Wish us luck but it looks like everything is moving towards endgame. I will post the results of our interview.

Anyone know how long it takes to issue a passport after they get the request?

You may want to let the USCIS people at the local office know when you go in to see them next time. I could be wrong, but I think the swearing in procedure is set each month, and you are put on the list by the local office. Might want to ask them simply add you to the next month's swearing in ceremony.
