Middle East and North Africaamerican embassy in cairo

I haven't called the Cairo embassy yet, instead I sent them an email to check if our paperwork had arrived so I could avoid problems later on when I started the transfer request. I also sent an email to Abu Dhabi stating I wanted to transfer our case from Cairo and if they were accepting transfer.

The embassy in Cairo received our packet and they mailed us a packet of instructions, I'm not sure if this means they're going to process our case or what but we're going to wait until we get that packet before we proceed with the transfer request.

Abu Dhabi also responded to our email today stating "The immigrant visa section at the U.S. Embassy will be accepting a limited number of transfer immigrant visa cases that were scheduled for interview at the U.S. Embassy in Cairo. Please be advised that a transfer request may take a few weeks/months to be completed and may take additional weeks/months to be scheduled for interview."

Doesn't Sudan have a US Embassy where people can get their interview done?

I originally planned on stopping it at NVC then routing it to Abu Dhabi, but I found out the hard way that their automated system for reporting your case status is broken! If it looks like the embassy will open after April I'm going to transfer our case.

Does anyone know what number to contact the Cairo embassy at right now? I'm going to call them to clarify on the recent announcement they made.

Here is their number - Telephone: (20-2) 2797 3300 what do you mean the embassy will open after April? Is your case still heading to Cairo? Let me know how it goes.

Yea I am in the same spot as you my case is still at NVC awaiting for an interview. I did not have one scheduled yet so what I did is called the NVC and they told me they reviewed the case and said my interview didn't make it for March but could be sometime in April. Maybe they can tell you something similar. From what I understand is they will start with contacting people with previous interviews that were canceled to re-schedule them first. I have a spouse that is in Egypt in other words my wife. So from what I understand The Embassy plans to resume limited processing of immigrant visas (IV) for the spouses and children of U.S. citizens soon. Correct me if I am wrong.

When visas start again they will contact us when the time comes to schedule an interview. I am still looking for options on how we can do the interview at another country. But lets keep in touch and keep talking. Let me know if anyone knows something new. As always still praying for the best as god knows best.

Hi Mona I hope all is well. Have you got word back from your husband on this?

Yeah because it was probably filed from Cairo so it didn't officially go through NVC :D

All these cases you see are mix of cases are spousal visas filed form the US, From Cairo, from other countries plus diversity lottery, plus other kinds of visas like bringing you siblings to the us, bringing your children, etc. so it's hard to comprehend which is which on the website lol

Oh ok that make sense. True but the cases I was looking at were CR1 in which are spousal visa's right? It probably is something that we both wouldn't understand lol but it just sparked a red flag to see 2011 before 2010. I am very patient but it is hard to trust these people who give you different answers every time you ask a question. All I want to do is know what going on. Guess no matter how many questions you ask the fact remains you have to hurry up and wait.

Hello, yeah it looks strange but let's take this date

CRO 2011 01 8 061

this case was approved by USCIS in 2011/01/8

but the interview depends on the date your case was finished at NVC but not the date USCIS approved your case

WOW. Yea if you call the NVC's automated system and enter that number you get record not found. Yet other cases that had interviews already you usually get "this case has been completed and forwarded to the embassy on "date". BUT in this case you get the message "record not found". I find this really weird. I am not sure what is going on here.

SO I just want someone to clarify to me what i am seeing for the US embassy's interview scheduling....

I am looking here - http://egypt.usembas...nsular/iv8.html

And I see NVC cases start with "CRO2011" with an interview scheduled in June. Correct me if I am wrong but cases that start with "CR02010" should have the priority over case that start with 2011. I would thing that 2011 means that is when the case was create and if the case was created in 2011 how did they get an interview before cases that were started in 2010. And Yes it is a CR1 visa I am talking about. Wondering if anyone thinks the same about this or do I not know how this works.

Wow I don't know what to do with myself. I know one thing it has been a long haul to get to this point. Today I am so overwhelmed I don't know if I should celebrate or just take it all in and be happy finally we have a date with the embassy!!! Best wishes to those waiting, your time is a coming folks!!!!

Middle East and North Africavisa interview

does anyone know specifically how long it is taking to get an interview at the cairo embassy at the moment?

It took 6 months for our case to get an interview scheduled that is of course due to the embassy closing for 2 months creating a backlog. From what I can tell it typically takes 4 months but it could take longer now. So I would say 4 - 6 months.

Middle East and North AfricaFor those waiting for interview in EGYPT

Ok, I know I'm bound to get scolded for saying this but I just can't resist because I find it more than a little perplexing...

In looking through the interview schedule on the embassy website and reading about everyone on here who is still waiting their interviews :reading:, it occurred to me that many of the scheduled interviews are for diversity visas, interviews for ppl from countries outside of Egypt and various other levels besides immediate family based...I don't begrudge anyone or wish a long drawn out wait on anyone but how is this justifiable? I am all for waiting one's turn but isn't reuniting family supposedly one of their top priorities and wouldn't it make sense to take care of the cases from the country you are in as a priority to the other transferred cases?? I really don't mean to complain, I just really was curious about this I mean to me it makes sense you would want to clear out the backlog of immediate family visas prior to worrying about DVs, transferred cases and such...am I totally off base here?:bonk:

Off my soapbox now , am leaving tomorrow for Cairo to wait it all out with my hubby ^_^:dancing:
Good luck to all of you, I hope our journey's go smoothly and quickly as possible from here....

Middle East and North AfricaFor those waiting for interview in EGYPT

I was wondering if there is anyone who's husband has had an interview lately in Egypt. Are they giving appointments for interviews? If you have had an interview has it gone well? The visa that we are waiting for is a CR1.

Thank you, Salam,

Liz

I actually contacted a lawyer about this and he found it very odd that case that were completed AFTER my case were already set up with an interview date. This is very wrong. We actually are contacting our local senators office to see what they can do. My lawyer contacted the NVC and the US embassy and they have nothing to say about this.. I decided to inquire an attorney to confirm my thoughts in which he stated clearly he found cases that were completed AFTER my case that already have interviews scheduled YET my wife and I continue to wait for an interview to be scheduled. This was brought to the attention of NVC AND the US embassy in Cairo by my attorney but they had no response to this fact. This is completely and utterly wrong is all kinds of ways and in fact I am quite outraged that this is happening. It is pretty evident that I am being mistreated by them but WE LITTLE people are always left in the dark without no clue on what is really going on. Seems like no matter what I do it has no effect. Maybe we all can try to see what is going on because something is not right here.

Middle East and North AfricaThe Journey is almost over
dear my fellow vjers,

My wife had her visa interview yesterday and good news she got approved!!!! I don't think it has settled in with me yet I don't know what to think. I am very happy that I am that much closer to having her in my arms once again.

She arrived early as required by the embassy. They asked her the standard questions whats your husband's name?, where does he work? where are you going? How did you meet?. After the interview was done the interviewer( a lady) took her passport and told her that she will receive the visa after two weeks. She was quite nervous about the interview as she did not know what to expect but it turns out she thought it was easy. We discussed questions they will ask her a couple days before the interview in which helped her prepare for when they ask her those same questions.

I wish everyone the same that is going to have or will have an interview scheduled. I was waiting forever for this day and it finally came alhumduallah. I hope everyone has a great Ramadan.

Monalisa don't worry I know you will do great in your interview! Make sure you and your husband discuss the questions they will ask you in the interview and you should be just fine inshallah. Rabna ma3ky ya Mona.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresDV over CR1 visas?

The rules for the DV lottery say all the visas must be approved by a set date ( or when the numbers run out ) so there is a mad rush to issue all those that will get their visas before the door closes. CR visas can be extended to whenever ( look at Ghahna for a worse case of a year wait)

Thanks for the insight. Thank god its not like Ghanhna. The fact remains people with CR visas have to wait because of the restrictions set for DV visas restrictions set by I would think the US state department is completely absurd, combined with the fact this embassy is also taking visa interviews for other multiple countries puts fuel to the fire!

So it people who actually want there family/spouse have to wait it out for DV Lottery visas to be approved before there family gets their interview just goes to show you how little they prioritize people in this situation. Why should we have to suffer because you are afraid of making a deadline in which you set by the way. Things HAVE got to change. This cant be the way it is and that it. WE LITTLE people are always left in the dark without no clue on what is really going on. I feel I have to speak out against this because this is completely and utterly wrong is all kinds of ways.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresFor Those Of You Who Have Been Through The Whole Thing

To anyone who has gone through the entire filing process from start to finish, and been approved, etc.--

Is there ever a point in the process where they have ALL your information collected from you (papers, proof of relationship, records, income, proof of a home in the USA, etc.), and they no longer need to collect any more information from you, and they are now just "considering it"?? Like a point where you don't have to do any more, all you do now is just "wait?"

I was thinking after this point in the filing process, perhaps THEN I could go over seas, and wait it out with my honey. And then just get a new job, when I come back to the USA (with him, if its all approved, god willing).

I say just go and spend time with him deal with all this paper work later. The most important part is you two spending time with each other to figure out if you too would work out. If you are really serious about doing this and he is too serious then just go and spend time together.

Is this the NOA2? The one sent from USCIS after approval? I noticed mine only has a time frame of around 4 months too..

Mine states approved 12/16, and expires in May..

Does this mean the interview has to take place, and passed within the dates? I don't we're going to make that time frame, judging by past I129 filers in Laos...

I just recently received my approval letters for both the I-130 and I-129F. I also recently filed my taxes online for 2008. On H and R Blocks website, it would not allow me to file as married since my Filipina wife has never been to the US and does not have an SS number. So, I went ahead and filed as single....

Is this going to cause problems for her interview at the US embassy in Manila? I want to make sure it's ok to do this and I would like to know if anyone else is in the same situation as me.....

Another question....not that I am going to do this, but since my wife is due to give birth in the middle of april and is able to get a K-3 interview soon, is it possible to us a joint sponser for the AOS I-134 form?? Any feedback would be extremely helpful. Thank you all and good luck to everyone smile.gif

You should be able to file an amended return, and get back some money for your 2008 taxes. There is no reason should not have been able to file a joint return. Single was incorrect, the other choice was married, filing seperately. You need an ITIN for your spouse.

Mister Bill is correct. 2 things. To get the ITIN you will need to file a W7 for her. Then you can also claim her a fulltime resident - see IRS Pub 519.
