US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionQuestion about Police Certificates in Brazil

How long did it take to receive the Federal Police Certificate for those who went to Belo Horizonte? I'm a little worried because I still need to translate it after my wife picks it up and her interview date is November 14.

In Sao Paulo, it takes around 15 days. It is not necessary to translate Federal police Certificate or any document (except if they are not in English or Portuguese) to the interview.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionK-1 Brazil

It was a bad idea for her to lie on her form and she better say it was a mistake and tell the truth at the interview.
They keep records of all her visa applications and all the times she's been to the US. So if she lies she'll be denied the visa immediately.
Also, they ask you to bring all your old passports to the interview (I don't know where I read that, but I'll bring mine!).
Lying is a very bad idea when it comes to immigration....please advise her or she might not be able to get her visa!

Alix

I think getting the new passport is not a problem, but lying is a big problem. She should say the truth since the begining of the petition.
If someone gets new passporte he/she should show the old one(s) on the interview (I also read this).
We have to provide all true information to them on forms and documentary proof.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionInterview in Rio de Janeiro - success Thank God!!!!
My interview was very easy (I was a little nervous, it's normal). First, we were in a line outside (for only 2 minutes or so), then they checked our purses and folders. At the first floor they gave us a password. After a wait they gave us a paper to place documents in a certain order. Then they started calling us for the first documents verification. A very nice woman checked my documents. Then, I went back to the same room and waited. I will try to type my interview below:
I: Good good morning!
CO: Good morning, sit down, please.
He took my finger tips and asked me if I had some allergy (I think it was because i had my hands sweating :D ). Then I said : please, just a moment. And I dried hands on my pants. Then I did and it worked (thank God). Then he said to me to raise my right hand:
CO: Do you swear that everything you will say and everything that is in these documents is the truth?
I: Yes, I swer that everything that I will say and everything that is in these documents is the truth. Then he started with the questions.
CO: How did you know each other?
I: first we met through the Internet and after 1 year plus 1 month we knew in person in Canada.
CO: In which the site have you known each other?
I: www.xxxxxxxxxxxxxx.com
CO: You have stayed with him in Canada from August 20th to July 27th in 2005. Do you think that this is enough time for each other and want to marry?
I: Yes, because, we've talked very much before knowing in person. Talking everyday a lot, we could know each other internally, if we say the truth, and we did. When we met in person, we just confirmed what we feel each other other.
CO: What is his work?
I: He works with xxxxx and its position is xxxxxx.
CO: He was married, right?
I: Yes, he is divorced.
CO: Does he have children?
I: yes, he has two children: XXXX who is xx years old and XXXXX who is xx years old. At the beggining they did not accept our relationship, but he had talked to them about us and now I talk with them too. They had accepted me and have talked to my niece and I. Also they say that they can't wait for the day I get there and say they love love me (they are sweet kids!)
CO: You are single and without children, right?
I: Yes.
CO: Do you have any more evidence?
I: I have letter of the employer and bank statments (one year).
CO: They are no necessary.
I: I have these photos (I passed some photos, but I also had our photo album). We didn't take so many pictures becaise we were not thinking about pictures, we just wanted to talk and know each other.
CO: Has these pictures been taken in the same day?
I: No. I have others here in album, do you want you to see them?
CO: yes, please. (I tried to pass the photo album to him but i could not).
CO: yout can show me from there. (so i showed him my pictures from our photo album)
I: I have printed some print screen of with files and dates of our conversations since May this year. And I printed some conversations since may and more from november.
CO: Who Is XXXXX?
I: His oldest kid.
CO: You had been on Niagara Falls, right? Did you stay on Canadian side?
I: Yes, also this is one of the rules when we enter into the boat.
CO: Did you have any problem with police in the Canada?
I: No, I didn't.
CO: And in Brazil?
I: No, never.
CO: Do you have any illness?
I: No i don't.
CO: You had 5 denied visas in Sao Paulo, right?
I: Yes. I have my old passport here and it is cancelled by federal police, do you want to see it?
CO: No need to.
CO: OK, it is alright. You can come back here on Dec 7th and get your passport. Good luck. I: Debtor and has a good day.

It took around 10 minutes and the interview was easy.
CO was very calm and nice.
I want to thank God for this victory and people from visajourney who helped me a lot - specially Mew and Priscila.
I have been asked Jesus to help me to undestand the process and to do everything right and He has been helped me everyday.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionBrazil cosponsors?
QUOTE (josephandvivian @ Aug 30 2009, 01:41 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Thanks for the help.
I'm going to email the embassy to ask them.

Maybe someone here has used a cosponsor in Brazil? Has anyone had experience with this in Brazil?

I know someone who has. Her interview was about 3 to 4 years ago and everything went well. I haven't talked to her, could not find her anymore, but as I know she's happy with her hubby. smile.gif

Remember you have to prove what Beinha said above.

Good luck. star_smile.gif

US Citizenship General DiscussionN-400 Name change

unless you consider $680 to be nothing, you never legally change your name in this country for free. With that said, naturalization is probably the easiest route for immigrants to legally change their names once and for all (I did and I am happy).

And I agree with Bob, you can change your name to whatever you want, add as many as given names/surnames you want through naturalization. Actually I am curious if there is anyone apply to change their names to names on the No Fly List.

I think what Sand meant by "for free" is that we have to pay $680 anyways so it's a good deal to use this opportunity so you don't have to pay more later. ;)

Thanks for posting your experience too and about the No Fly List I'd never heard about it so I looked it up on Google but didn't find a list with names. It would be awful changing the name to one on that list by accident. lol :jest:

It depends. I got my citizenship within 5 months with name change.
Trust me, it's totally worth it!
Best of luck on your naturalization journey.

Thank you very much! :star:
