US Citizenship General DiscussionDidn't get my already sent oath letter yet

I think it would be unlikely they would schedule you for an oath that soon. Have you tried calling USCIS? If you ask to speak to an ISO they should be able to confirm to you when the oath ceremony is.

Thx fot the reply. I'm pretty sure it was sent. My worry is the mail service. I've gotten some stuff addressed to other people but I return them to my mailbox so they can send them to the right people. But I don't know if everybody does this.

Do you know if the oath letter comes from the service center or local office?

If you don't get the letter by the end of the week, give them a call.

To immigration or Post Office?

US Citizenship General DiscussionDidn't get my already sent oath letter yet
Hey VJ friends!

Last week on May 2nd I received an email saying I was scheduled for Oath Ceremony and a letter was sent.

The thing is, I didn't get anything yet. I checked my mailbox today and I was sure it would be there but nothing. For my interview letter it took 5 days including weekend to get here and this one has been almost a week. Should I be worried?

I know there's a Naturalization Ceremony this Friday but I don't know if I would be scheduled for it since I got scheduled last week. Another question is how long does it take for the Ceremony after you get the letter.

Thanks in advance.

Here's a copy of my email I got on 05/02/2012:

He was already approved at an interview so I think he will go directly from biometrics to oath.

Yes, I meant scheduled for OATH Ceremony. :innocent:

And speaking of that I checked my mailbox and didn't get my oath letter yet. It was send in May 2nd and so far nothing. :sleepy:

I think at first you didn't need biometrics because you had valid ones, then it ended up taking too long, they expired so they need new ones done.
I'm pretty sure soon after you go for biometrics they will schedule you for interview.
Well, you're not the only "lucky"one. lol
Take a look at my signature and timeline. Pay attention to my AOS and N-400 (I named my N-400 Lazarus, because when I had almost completely forgotten about it, it came back to life  ).
All the delay for me I can blame on my fingerprints (not readable in the system).

Well, i wish you good luck and that everything goes faster now. Try not to worry too much and be patient and keep your faith. This is the only thing that can help you since everything is alright with your application.

US Citizenship General Discussionat the interview

Indeed, IO's can be very thorough but I can't see them asking the exact application date as it is the least relevant information on the complete form. Well, the date is used in determining your eligibility but there is no reason you should engrave this date in your memory.

The IO who I was interviewing with even told me I was to literal in answering the question about trips and days outside the US in last five years. According to him I would have been fine leaving the first 1.5 years out as my application was marriage based. It's funny as I'm the kind of person who has a tendency to interpret question (something people shouldn't do with the USCIS)

I also answered based on 5 years but by the time I had my interview I was almost sure the number of days I was out of the country would be 0 even if it was a 5 years based application (mine was based on 3 years). Then I said, I didn't do the math but I'm sure it's 0 days. She said to me it would only count as 3 years and the corrected the number I had put there before (because it would be a number of days when I started my application since I was also literal to answer it). The rest is easy because the answers didn't change anyways. Oh, only one thing I changed, my name and I picked one name and typed there and I changed my mind, but there was no problem at all with that.

You should be able to. Just explain that you want to speak to an ISO because you've been waiting a while for the letter and you're worried you'll miss the ceremony! Let us know how it goes! :)

Sure I will, thank you. :)

I hope your letter turns up soon! I'm sure it will arrive sometime next week if it hasn't already. If you're worried about when the oath will be call USCIS and ask to speak to an ISO. They should be able to tell you when you are scheduled and then you can finally relax! :)

Oh Can I do that? I didn't know. I'm worried because I have no clue if the ceremony happens soon after it's scheduled or if it takes a while. Thank you for the tip, rocks. :)

Just becaus ethey scheduled you on 5/2 doesn't mean they put the letter in the mail then :) If you've always received every other letter, no reason to think you won't get this one.

But they said on the email I was scheduled and a note with date and location was sent on 05/02.

Lisa, the more you think about it, the longer the process seems to be. The truth, nothing get better or worse. Good luck and I hope it's on the USPS van to your home.

I think you are fine. It's been only 7 business days in your case. I would wait one more week before calling them again.

For my interview letter it took 5 days (including weekend). I'm just afraid of missing my own ceremony if USPS made a mistake. :crying:

And let's say I wait a week and then call them do you think they have my date? At least I would know I wouldn't be missing it.

Does anybody know if it takes longer than any other letters from Immigration or even regular letters?

I always get them pretty fast.

I already called USCIS but she said it can take 30 days. But how come? Is there something different?

My oath letter was sent on May 2nd and so far I didn't get anything. I'm really worried if USPS delivered to wrong address.

What happen if I miss my ceremony? :crying:

If i call USCIS again, can they access my info and check my ceremony's date?

It's been 14 days since I did my interview but upto now I still haven't received the appointment letter for the oath ceremony that the IO told me to wait for. I know the waiting time for the oath can take upto 90 days, but shouldn't have I at least received the appointment letter in the mail already? From the time you had the interview, how long did you guys wait before you got the appointment letter in the mail? I'm just worried I'll miss the ceremony because they might have mailed it already and somehow got lost, who knows?

edit: By the way, I did my interview at the Jacksonville, FL office, if that info helps.

I received an email saying I was on queue and then scheduled after over a month. You are on time, don't worry. :)

I sent my stuff in March based on 5 yr eligibility, I complete my 5 yr anniv. in June first week.

Are there other people in same situation ?

As you already called and talked to them I think you don't have to worry. These things sometimes take a while. My "Lazarus" (check on my signature) is alive and I'm here chilling waiting for my oath letter. I got an email saying it was sent on May 2nd but I didn't get anything so far. So I called them today and she said although the letter is delivered in a few days I should allow 30 days. So no more worries (just anxiety lol, just kidding). :)

yes, trust me I know the anxiety. lol

Praying helps a lot, in my case it gave me the patience and at the end it got everything solved to me.

What you cold do is if it passes more days and you don't get any response I think you could call them.

I don't remember if you told the day you had your interview. If it passed more than 45 days I think you can call. Just tell them you know your case is complete and you would like to know if a decision was already made. Because you know, sometimes online status doesn't update. In my case it did but some people have said it didn't for them.

Best look for you, I'm sure you will be getting your oath letter soon. :)

So since May 9 your status keeps saying that? I also hate when things like that happens. Maybe this could help:

New Call Menu for USCIS 1-800 Customer Service Number
On Monday, August 29, individuals calling the National Customer Service Center's 1-800 phone number will hear a brand new message. This redesigned Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system provides customers with streamlined access to immigration information, case status, and customer service representatives.

The old IVR had 10 main menu options for the customer to listen through in order to make a selection. The redesigned IVR has only 3 main menu options. This redesign has cut the amount of time required to listen to the entire main menu from 2 minutes and 50 seconds to only 38 seconds.

The new 3 main menu options are: Immigration Services, Immigration Information, and Special Programs and Other Resources.

Callers can press 1 to hear information on Immigration Services including:

  • Case status
  • Forms
  • Locating a USCIS office
  • Civil surgeons
  • Change of address
Attorneys, community based organizations, and employers should also press 1.

Callers can press 2 to hear information on Immigration benefits and processes including:

  • Interviews
  • Biometrics
  • Requests for evidence
  • Background checks
  • Processing times
Callers can press 3 to hear information about Special Programs and other Resources including:

  • Kaplan action law suit
  • Temporary Protective Services
  • Freedom of Information Act/Privacy Act
  • Reporting immigration scams

Yes, it's much easier when you have your receipt number. Use any letter from your N-400 and be prepared to take notes. When I call first thing I locate my A# and receipt # on the paper. Good luck.

It used to be 1,2,3,4. I'm not sure if that is still correct, the option to change your address will get you through to an operator if 1,2,3,4 doesn't work.

The menu changed, I'm not sure what I used but there was a lot of ones. lol

Just copying what I said on the other topic:

Just follow the menu. Then you will hear your online status. After that (if I'm not mistaken) you wait on the line to talk to a representative. They will probably say all your information again and tell you to allow 30 days. Then, just ask if you could talk to an ISO, because you are worried about your oath ceremony, and you are afraid of missing it. I'm sure you'll not have problems and the officer will be able to check the date for you. Then you let him or her know that you didn't receive the letter yet. Good luck, I hope you get your ceremony same day as your mom. :)

Hi VJers:
I noticed that on my oath letter, it ask me to bring "Any travel documents issued to you by this service" -- I don't quite get what this means. Can anyone explain and help me with this?
Many thanks!!

My letter says: reentry permit, refugee or passport. I only have my passport from Brazil, so I'm gonna take it. The nice lady I talked today said to me not to forget my green card. And the letter also says any Immigration documents, I think they mean the green card. Unless you have some other document issued from them I think that's what they need.

Don't cry! I believe there's always a reason some things don't work the way we want. But they can get even better!

I missed my Oath Ceremony because I never received the letter. I'm sure it was delivered to the wrong address. When I get asked where I got my accent from (which on the long run started to annoy me) I answer that it is from Wisconsin

Unless the person is from Wisconsin or knows anybody from Wisconsin it's kinda fun.

Nobody never asks me, "where are you from?" Not sure why. And thank God everybody understands me and I understand people, that is what matters. lol

But... :ot2:... I think it's better be safe than sorry, so, in case I need one day, I can show my passport card. Must be because most people in Brazil people are used to carry their IDs everywhere. Here I don't walk up to the corner store without my PR card. :)

Oh and the other day I read about a naturalized US citizen who was stopped by the Police and they didn't believe he was a citizen, I don't remember if he was arrested, maybe not, but if he had a passport card he would have the proof right there.

Only place both my wife and stepdaughter were asked about US citizenship was for voters register, DMV form, job application forms, and at the university, was never asked about that for either grade nor high school. Banks and credit card companies only asked for your SS number.

Stepdaughter is 100% American in speaking English, wife has her very own unique accent that does give some questions and wild guesses. I love her accent, so does everyone else, hopes she never loses it.

My husband also says he loves my accent, he says it's unique. I wanted so much to lose it before but I gave up. I know it's impossible. lol

:goofy: Good afternoon. We just posted my hubby's N-400. YAY!!!!

We were talking afterward about how nice it will be to have the FN (foreign national) taken off his driver's license but then we wondered HOW will my hubby prove he a US Citizen when he goes to change this. Does he get something at the Oath Ceremony? Will he need to carry it with him rather than the GC until his Driver's License is changed and the FN is removed in case he was pulled over and he didn't have a GC with a FN on his license? Never thought of this before. Thanks! :goofy:

He will receive his Certificate of Naturalization. But he's not gonna carry it, so he will apply for passport. I will have my Oath Ceremony next week and I will apply for passport and passport card. Passport card is a proof of status we can easily carry on. :)

Good luck to him, I hope it goes fast and smooth.
