US Citizenship General Discussioncan i bring reading/writing materials to oath ceremony

We all have our own style. I work at Kentucky Fried Chicken and 'cause I had to go straight to work after the ceremony I wore my chicken costume to the Oath Ceremony. Boy, did I get weird looks. I mean all those losers are eating chicken anyway, but when they see a large chicken doing what chickens do, they act irritated. So the obese black girl asked me to remove the head and boy did I tell her to shove it!

Then, when waiting for Obama to appear, I watched porn on my iPad. The lady next to me rolled her eyes like she didn't like it, and I told her I'm not doing anything she ain't doin' at home, right? So I told her to hug herself. Then came the judge and he looked really . . . I mean . . . where do they find these people? So he talks and I get annoyed and crank up my iTunes. Must have been louder than I thought, 'cause several people shisht at me. I mean . . . what wrong with those guys? All in all, it was pretty lame from start to finish. Then they wanted me to give 'em my Green Card and I told 'em over my dead body #######! I finally left and can't really recommend doing this #######. No fun.

US Citizenship General DiscussionAnybody knows????

Does anybody know If you passed interview and you answered all the questions, and you do not have any traffic tickets, you came here with fiancé visa, you are happily married, you have a child together , your husband is in Armed Forces, you never failed to file taxes, you never were arrested etc… what is your chance to be denied??? I passed interview, and have been told that they cannot make decision now and I need to wait for decision letter in the mail. I am not worried at all. I know that it is only 1 month since my interview. But reading some posts here from people who were dined I am paranoid now: what if I said something wrong during the interview, what if they didn't like something in my application or me…. I know shouldn't worry, but who knows???? What is the chance to be denied after interview? And if you are denied will they tell you during the interview, or by mail…..

Did they request any other document? I had interview a few days ago and she said she could not approve me at that time because of my fingerprints and requested Police Clearance Letter. But like Dave said above, maybe the supervisor wasn't there so they could not approve you at that time.

I see. Did they ask for both expired and current passports?

Yes. My interview letter was requesting them and I look and she asked to see them.

Same here. I haven't taken any trips abroad and she asked to see my passports. I think they want to see passports from everybody (or most of people).

US Citizenship General Discussionn-400 application question

i came into a few questions very confused at the moment.

part 6 B. what if you have no history of education or work history past five years, is it a none or n/a or leave it blank??

in a same sense at part 9B, if no children, would it be a non or n/a or leave it blank?

part 12. does it have to be a lawyer?? or i can put anybody who fill out the form??

lastly, if the state id and passport id has very subtle name difference e.g. my id says my first and last name as Hugo Boss without space, but my passport as Hu Go Boss with space. what name should i write in the name???

all answer will be appreciated.

6B if you are a housewife for example, you can put there homemaker and the dates. If you had a job more than 5 years ago you don't have to type there (because they are requesting information on the period of 5 years).
But if you had a job from, for example in 2007, let's say you started in 2000 and worked until 2007 you should list it there because 2007 is still in the 5 years period (not sure if I'm being clear :/ ) And then list your time as homemaker (or housewife). I did this and had no problem at all.

Part 9B I listed my stepdaughters following the instructions. I had interview yesterday and she said about this question, "You have these 2 kid?" And I answered, "they are my husband's but I followed the instructions, so I listed my stepdaughters." She said it was right. :) If you have no children, no stepchildren I believe None (no children) is the correct answer.

Part 12 B if you prepared the form yourself you don't have to put any name, I put NONE.

Good luck.

US Citizenship General DiscussionWaiting time is driving me crazy

During the AOS stage, can't even be with your loved one, those days passed by very slowly. During the ROC, your loved one can't work nor travel, also extremely frustrating, but at least you are together. With naturalization, have the ten year card and a current valid foreign passport, unless applying for federal job, really not much changes with citizenship. That's the attitude we had, and for some strange reason, that was the phase the moved the quickest.

Often wonder if they have some means to monitor your stress, the more stress you are in, the longer it takes. We really didn't care about the final stage and before we knew, had to pack up all the evidence and study for that civics tests. Initial letter we got said would take about a year, was done in 4 1/2 months. Could be 4 1/2 seconds for the USCIS, or 4 1/2 millenniums for us.

It's true NickD! I think the worst one was K-1 (waiting to be with my husband - fiance at that time) and after that AOS (I was worried because it took over a year to receive my green card. My ROC was really fast and N-400 it doesn't really matter if it takes longer, unless there's something to do as you said.

I know how frustrating it is.....it has been 4 months since I was placed in line for interview!

Did u try calling them?

Oh wow!

Mind if i ask why they reschedule your biometrics for a whole year

Because my fingerprints are not readable. Never work. So I have to get Police Clearance after doing 2 biometrics.

When I was waiting for AOS I had to do it 3 times (now they only can do 2) and it took over a year to get my GC. It always goes well with the petition, thank God, but with fingerprints messed up it always takes longer. Last year I could have called them and maybe it would have gone faster but I had problems (our kitty got sick, treatment and ended up dying and he was our baby and I got really depressed :( ). By the end of the year I got sick myself, so I just let it go. Got an appointment letter for January 2012 and could not go, so I sent it back and they rescheduled it (it was fast), so it was done in February and then interview on March 20. On my interview the Officer said she could not recommend for approval at that time because of my fingerprints, so I had to go get Police Clearance and sent it last week. Now, just wait (something I learned how to be used to LOL).

US Citizenship General DiscussionBiometric Appointment

Thank you all for your responses and support.

All went well, thank goodness. I went to the bank at 8:30am while my husband went to his appointment. The bank manger came about 8:40 to get inside, I got out of my car and talked to him and he said no problem, let him open the safe and he would come and get me. He came back in 5 min. I went in got his GC and texted my husband that I'm on my way. I got to drive for 5 min. and he called me and said I didn't need to go. They let him have his biometric done without his GC. They said is Ok, his ID was sufficient. He told them I was going to bring his GC but they said tell her she doesn't need to come. We were both so happy.

To "nwctzn" good question... he doesn't feel comfortable keeping it at home. He has a copy with him. He thought it's better to keep all our documents in the safe deposit box. I guess now we know better

Glad all went OK... Thanks again everyone... Good luck to all of you. :star:

I'm happy for you that everything went well. :)

US Citizenship General DiscussionFiled over a year, interview over a month

I have been waiting 6 weeks since the roc interview. No rfe letter or anything. It seems like most people get a respo se pretty much quick aftwr any type of interview so I plan am worried too. Maybe you should try infopass.

Yes, I know how you feel, girl. Did they say anything if you were approved?

I didn't have interview neither for AOS nor for ROC. I hope we both get something soon. Before trying infopass do you think calling would help? I don't know if they have any information to give though.

From what I gather a month is not uncommon if RFE is issued. You're pretty safe as you sent in the required document that tells USCIS what they want to know. Since the rest of the interview went fine denial is not likely.

Yes, I hope you are right! But it would be a relief to me to hear something from them.

US Citizenship General DiscussionFiled over a year, interview over a month
Hello everybody!

I learned how to be patient with immigration timelines but I'm getting worried now.

After over a year I filed for N-400 and now over a month after I had my interview I have no idea if my petition was or will be approved. I couldn't be approved at the time of my interview because of my fingerprints (they are not readable) so my Officer requested a clearance letter from the Police, which I sent soon after my interview. Everyday I check my email and mail box with the hope I will get something but get nothing. :(

Has anybody here had such problems with timeline on N-400? I saw a few cases but I think after the interview everything went fast, I'm not sure. I'm very frustrated with the delay because I don't hear anything from them. It's like I'm in the limbo, purgatory or whatever.

Sorry to bother with my worries but I just wanted to know about people who had similar experiences here and if they could share them.

P.S.: I requested name change but I don't know if it would affect it that much.

US Citizenship General DiscussionIRS Transcript.
I sent copies so for the interview I had the originals in hands. Only the one from last year I didn't have because I got error message after trying to get the transcript (got them some time later though). So for the interview I took my originals and 2011 Tax return papers plus copies of the federal and state checks (and copies of everything). My officer didn't ask to see any original but this can vary, so, I would be safe and order new ones (and the are free!) and take them 9orignal and copy of everything you take). Good luck. :)

Yes, the best decision is to wait. Even if you are in a rush to petition because you need to bring family members or apply for some kind of job that's requires citizenship you should wait. You never ever mess up with Immigration requirements.

US Citizenship General DiscussionN-400 filing and documents to bring to the interview

Hello Everyone
Just wanted to ask: When my wife goes to the interview and its based on marriage to a USC - Is she required to bring with her all the evidence that we have been living together for the entire 3 year period or only from the period that we mailed in the I-751 form - because when we did mail the I-751 form we provided everything for the first two years and now since we are filing I'm assuming all we need to provide is from the date we mailed the I-751 until we actually file the N-400 - in that case it would only be ONE year worth of documents. Does anyone know???

I took to my interview everything I had submitted on my N-400 (copies and original) PLUS proof (original and copies) after that, so it was covering the time I filed for Naturalization until time of interview. In my case she had my folder with everything there and she only wanted to see proof from the period after I filed until date of interview. I asked if she wanted the originals but she only asked for the copies. I don;t know if some cases are different, but in my case that was it. I didn't want to risk so I took everything again (from when I filed N-400) in case any document was misplaced.

I wish her good luck on her interview. :)

Don't assume anything. Whatever is listed on the interview letter, (and the yellow sheet, if you get one), you bring with you.

True. Assuming you can go wrong. The best to do is taking what they request and having more easy in hand just in case. Better safe than sorry. :)

I saw some calendars and see next month (June) and there was no Naturalization Oath Ceremony. Gotta wait more.

US Citizenship General DiscussionWhat to prepare or expect on my coming interview?

I have a question too, I should be getting my interview letter soon. When you go to your interview, do you get sworn in right away? Or do you get another letter in the mail to come back? I am asking because I have some travel plans next month and the month after (outside the country) and am worried I will have to turn in my green card at the interview.

US Citizenship General DiscussionWhat to prepare or expect on my coming interview?

I have my citizenship interview about 2 weeks from now and I feel nervous, scared and more. I did memorize the civics questions and understand my form N-400, besides that what should I have to prepare or study or anything that the interviewer that would be possibly asks questions during my interview?

I am also confused about the civics questions, some questions there are give one or two answers only - is it possible that the interviewer ask more than what it says on the study booklet?

Like for example:
6.) What is one right or freedom from the first amendment?
There are 5 answers listed on that questions but it asks only one answer - do I have to memorize all 5 answers or just one answer? (Is it possible the interviewer would ask more than what it asks on the study booklet?)

61.) Why did the colonists fight the British?
There are three answers on this question but it does not said give one or two - do I have to memorize all three answers or I will just choose one answer?

Anyone knows please help...

It's normal to be nervous because there are 100 questions to memorize. I was too. Just study hard and if you read the booklet it helps a lot to understand the questions. Then memorize the questions and answers and everything will go well. If the question asks for one answer, answer one, if two, two, if three, three. If it doesn't say anything, answer the complete answer. The reading and writing portion are also easy. About the questions from the form, you'll just answer the truth, as you did before. Bring documentation. Dress like you were going to a job interview. That's it.

I forgot to mention the CD is also great to study. I started listening to everything. Then answering and then shuffling questions and answering and then listening to the answer to confirm. Even on the way to the interviewI had ear phones on and kept doing this and my husband was driving and listening to me (he said it didn't bother him though. LOL).

Good luck. :)

Hello everybody,

I am residing in the state of Michigan. This is what I received through e-mail:

"On March 14, 2012, your N400, APPLICATION FOR NATURALIZATION was placed in line for interview scheduling".

I have not heard nor received any further communication regarding my interview appointment, time, location, etc... yet.

I was wondering if there is any other "Michigander" in the same boat I am in????

Thanks much.

I was placed in line one day and next day I was scheduled for interview. But it varies, it can take longer. If you see my signature and/or timeline you will understand. It's been almost a year since I started this petition. Patience is all you need. :)

Aww, I'm sorry to hear about your bad luck. I love our cats very much, I can only imagine how horrible that was for you both. At least now your journey is finally coming to an end! Time to celebrate!

Yes, thank God!

Another thing is that when I became Permanent Resident my father in law asked me if I was happy for being "American". I said I wasn't American, but Permanent Resident but when I got Naturalized we would take him out for dinner and then he could celebrate with us. But he passed away in December 2010. :( And that kitty we had adopted was his kitty, we adopted him after he passed. :( So it was very sad and brought up a lot of memories. But I will offer him the day of my Naturalization and I know in Heaven, dad will be very happy. :)

I'm sure after all this time you are very worried! I don't blame you, I would want to get it over with as soon as possible too! Let us know if they can tell you the date. :)

Sure I will, thank you. And I hope your goes fast. hehehe

Mine I can blame on my fingerprints (not readable by the system) and kind of myself last year. Last year we had problems with our kitty that got really sick for several months, had treatment, I was barely sleeping to feed him during the night but he ended up passing away (he was our baby :( ). I didn't want to deal with anything, then by the end of the year I got really sick, my husband got sick too. Anyways, thank God now, we are well, we have another kitty and we love him and Lazarus is heading to the end. :)

Look at your timeline. It's long beyond imagination. God bless you.

Amen! Yes, it's been a loooong journey. I named my application Lazarus because it came back to life again. :D

I'm sure it was sent to you, it will probably turn up soon. Give it until the end of the week or the start of next week. It is very unlikely they would give you such short notice for the oath ceremony, but if you want to check if the ceremony is this Friday then call USCIS, they should be able to tell you when the ceremony is.

That's a great idea, thank you! :)

I don't think i would get such a short note either, just I worry too much. lol

I think it would be unlikely they would schedule you for an oath that soon. Have you tried calling USCIS? If you ask to speak to an ISO they should be able to confirm to you when the oath ceremony is.

Thx fot the reply. I'm pretty sure it was sent. My worry is the mail service. I've gotten some stuff addressed to other people but I return them to my mailbox so they can send them to the right people. But I don't know if everybody does this.

Do you know if the oath letter comes from the service center or local office?

If you don't get the letter by the end of the week, give them a call.

To immigration or Post Office?
