K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresquestion about meeting
I just got a RFE because they say that i need to show more evidence of meeting within the last two years. I have met him within the time. My problem is that on the letter it says proof for meeting from two years before Nov. 29 2006. I went to albania to visit in december 06. will they still take it? i mean i had met him about a year and a half before he went back to albania, but i dont really have proof, other than pics that i already sent them.
i also have a ATM statement with my credit card from an albanian bank, and the passport stamp, but its from december, not November 29th,06.
Other than that like i said, i only have pic from Cedar point and stuff like christmas 06.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHelp...please
oh sorry, we live in Michigan. he was here on a visa, but he overstayed and left in order to do everything right. which is why we used a lawyer, and im sure he has a passport stamp from when he left. would it be a good idea to use it? we didnt lie about him overstaying or anything.
I went to see him, but i went in december and we filed in November.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHelp...please
Does anyone have any ideas for proof of meeting during the 2 years prior to filing the papers? i sent in photos with dates and wrote that we met because we lived in the same area. but i still got a RFE. im running out of ideas. the only thing i can send in is letters from people saying they were there when we were together, along with more dated pictures.
I dont have anything like a hotel recpit, or plane tickets. i also stated that he lived in the same city, which i dont understand why they would assum that we would have things like that. I stressing so much about this!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresLots of questions
my guy was in America, so we didnt have much proof and i got a RFE with using only pictures. So for more evidence of meeting i sent in letters that i had 5 or 6 people sign saying that they saw us together. I also got a copy of his tax returns and mine and "Mapquest"ed the short distance between our houses. Then i also threw in some plane tickets that were from after i filed anyway. and i got approved. in case you cant think of anything like i couldnt.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresProof of relationship
first i sent in pictures, and phone recoreds. i got a RFE for proof of meeting. so, then i had about 5 people sign statements saying they saw us together, and copied our tax returns and highlighted our address. then mapquested the distance (of like 11 miles, he lived in the US). I also had my old principal sign a letter saying he came to my high school senior prom. (we are young). get creative. we recieved an NOA2.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedureshere illegally?
here is the story. my fiance came here when he was ten. his family filed a plea for assylum. the case was denied on Jan 4, 2006. he was then deported in late June 2006. my question is before they filed the asslyum plea he was under 18,he turned 18 while wating for the decision, and he was here for 175 days after the decsion. he was deported on June 28th.
so would he need a waiver because he was deported? Would he need a waiver cause he was here illegal, and would he be considered illegal?
im confused.

thanks!!!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresDoes there always have to be a touch after NOA2?
Hi there. We were also approved on the 13th. No hardcopy to date and no touches yet either. I believe I read it on the one of the July threads to check with Visa centre with case # and your BD and they could look you up easy.

I tried this today but they didn't have our packet yet.

Thank you both for answering.... You have put our minds a bit at ease but its always nerve wracking until its over (and approved with flying colors) We have just come so far and are so close. Its sometimes hard to trust.... :-)

If anyone else has experienced going to a medical with any kind of condition could you let me know your experiences. Or if anyone could point out where on this site where other people sweating the medical go to flock could you please direct me.

Meanwhile I will order ;-) my love to make appointment with his dr and try and get all history to support he is as healthy as an ox.

Thanks again.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresQuestion-
Hello All,

forgive me if I am posting in wrong area but...

We've jump thru many hoops and hurdles and now its time for my finance to get his medical. But he and I have a concern. In late 2006 my foreign fiance was hosipitalized for a blood clot in his leg. He has been successfully treated but now takes a blood thinner as a procaution.

Would this condition be something we should worry about on passing the medical? What are the chances they will deny us based on "public charge"?

He has been working and is in fine shape. I make well over the poverty guideline and have decent (well that might be pushing it) ok insurance.

I haven't been able to sleep at night ever since we started thinking about this. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks-White Cow

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresQuestion on NOA2 approval notice date
Hi everyone- Thanks in advance for any answers.

I have received the NOA2 dated for Nov 13, 2008 and my fiance' is apply thru London embassy.

He sent in all forms in packet 3 but for his police certificate. We also have a complication due to his only having legal right to remain in UK (He is waiting for approval from the embassy to use his TD as form of ID at medical).

So we are doing alot of waiting for answers are are concerned that the waiting will send us past the Mar 13, 2009 date. I phoned the travel state dept regarding this and the gentlemen on the phone said that this date is for the USCIS and doesn't have anything to do with embassy. He said its from a few steps ago and the case is open and to be patienet. (yeah right)

I get the impression from this site that the date does have to do with the whole process. From approval to interview. Does anyone know more info on the specifics on this date?

Thanks-
White Cow

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresARG! STUPID NEBRASKA

Your I129F PETITION FOR FIANCE(E) was received on March 1, 2006. We mailed you a receipt with information about processing. It is taking between 80 and 110 days for us to process this kind of case. We will mail you a decision as soon as processing is complete.

So what happened to the 60 - 90 days that was there yesterday?

:crying:

Don't lose hope! I was extremely frustrated too, as per the timeline here people who submitted around the same time as us were getting processed in ~65 days. We were just approved (NAO2) yesterday after 85 days! The timeline on the Nebraska site isn't accurate; I would go more with the on here on Visajourney, but even that's not perfect.
Best of luck.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMedical Exam - early?
For those of you who responded - thank you.
I just called the Costa Rica Embassy this am (and actually got to a real person rather quickly) and was told the physical exam and lab results are good for 6 months. They also had a specific list of physicians and labs where one is to complete the required testing, which the lady was kind enough to email that to me right then and there!
So... I guess the best answer is if you think you might need/want to do the medical exam sooner, call your embassy to see about specific requirements - it seems most allow it to be completed 6-12 months in advance.
Thanks again.
Melissa

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMedical Exam - early?
I have read various posts hinting at this topic, but never found a satisactory answer - any replies would be appreciated.
My question is this: is it possible to complete the medical exam early (ie before receiving Packet #3)? Is there a limit on how long it is "valid?" I ask because my Costa Rican fiance will be traveling for work over the next few months, and we are anticipating getting the NAO2 in the next month or so, God willing. Rather than risk delaying the process, we would like to get that part done before he leaves the country, if at all possible. I guess the worst case scenario we do it then find out we have to repeat it...
Also, someone mentioned having the required forms available and could email them. If you read this (or someone else has them), please contact me!
Thanks a million.

Middle East and North AfricaCulture VS Islam
A quick joke based on the last clash I mentioned:

A woman in Bangladesh went in for her interview for her K3 visa. When she went home, she called her husband, Mr. Chand, (living in America) to say that she failed. He was exasperated and asked her why, and furthermore why she sounded happy. They had gone over all of his information multiple times in preparation for her interview. She replied, "When the Officer asked me what my husband's name was, I replied 'Mr. Shurjo'. How silly of him to ask! He thought he was going to trick me into saying your name!"

Note: Chand = Moon, Shurgo = Sun

Middle East and North AfricaCulture VS Islam
The cultural clash is a rare occurrence in the more religious sectors of Michigan. I was raised in Detroit, but I did attend middle school in Dearborn. I am currently attending the University of Michigan - Dearborn as well. In the outskirts of Dearborn and Detroit (places like Hamtramck) where the population is more diverse, the cultural clashes continue to thrive. This is true in the adolescents carrying hatred in their hearts for reasons other than religion. Its all about "my turf" vs "your turf".

This is mere speculation, but I attribute the founding of the community to the job market and immigration rather than religion per se. That is the precise reason for the steady stream of Bangladeshi immigrant workers moving from New York to Michigan. The cost of living in New York is extremely high, whereas in Michigan, what with big 4 and our coined "motor"-city, the cost of living and finding a job is much more affordable.

The children of these immigrants formed their roots and it is these roots that drew upon the roots left behind to increase the Arab population of the community. As we speak, the Bangladeshi community is following suit. We are making our mark. My father and his generation have various nonprofit organizations that are recruiting the new immigrants along with the old, to train them in technical fields. The general community is growing, and as a result, a lot of people are looking into other aspects of their life. The children of these progressive community members are living a secure life, they in turn are searching for answers. Some of these continually look towards religion and have been successful in creating a stronghold.

Thus, I think it is the incentive of a somewhat secure life that allowed for such a community to develop. That isn't to say it could have turned out different.

(Also, it was my pleasure to post... I hate spelling and grammatical errors, hence rarely post... what with the inability to edit later on lol)

Another culture vs religion concept in Bangladesh: A woman in unable to call her husband by his name.... you use the word "ere" or "apni" which is a respectable way of saying "hey you". Before you ask, my fiance and I are progressive Muslims (a bit liberal, not in the "anything goes" sense) and we refer to each other with whatever the situation warrants. :P

Middle East and North AfricaCulture VS Islam
Wow, what a topic! And what intriguing posts.

I've personally never written in any of the more religious threads on VJ, so here goes nothing.

Regarding the original issue of culture vs religion (Islam in this case) multiple examples can be found in my ethnic origins, Bangladesh. However, I've been fortunate enough to be born and raised in the West (I've never set foot in Bangladesh, sadly) with the first few years of my life in the midst of my "religious" family to gradually grow independent in the outside world. The devotion and loyalty to religion was cemented in the beginning years which allowed me to view the world through a wonderful yet utterly confusing looking-glass. Early on, I attended classes led my Bengali "mullas" who were able to strike children who neglected to recite memorized lines correctly. I went on to attend weekend arabic school led by devoted teachers from the greater arab community.

You can imagine the confusion of a child, who is taught to devote herself to the teachings of her religion is one way, be taught that the complete opposite is true.

In the Bangladeshi run school, I was forced into believing the spirituality and importance of being a good muslima was found on the mere surface. The ability to spit out the foreign, and quite scary sounding syllables one after another, gave me superiority over others who couldn't do it from memory.

In Arabic school, I was taught that being of something other than arab descent was not the best of backgrounds. However, aside from the cultural animosity, I was taught that the meaning and the context in which each verse was sent down was in fact of more importance.

In the Bangla culture vs religion conflict, I found the following through observation and testimony of others. (Side note - The message regarding Islam was heavily Persian and sometimes Yemeni influenced, when introduced in Bangladesh) Bangladesh's culture is truly hindi-derived. Many of the practices performed under the banner of Islam closely parallel Hindu customs and tradition. This is found, in the need:

for the young to kneel and bow before the elders whilst touching their feet.
to seek the touch of a mulla to erase past sins or for blessings
to read the quran repeatedly, seeming to sound as though the reader understand the meaning, etc...

In the Arabic culture vs religion conflict, I found the following:

There are definite lines between right and wrong, especially when it comes to the sects and subsects
The troublesome waters regarding educating us girls and how we should attempt to stay inferior to the men
The misconception regarding the fact that being of Arabic descent makes one superior to a fellow nonarab muslim, etc...

As a disclaimer, I must say that using the word Arab is too general. I grew up in a Yemeni community, went to schools in a Palestinian, Lebanese, Iraqi community, was taught in a charter school by an Egyptian teacher. Trust me when I say that I understand how diverse the word Arab truly is!

My past has made me into the open objective person I am. It helped me understand in the most profound way, the richness of Islam. The fact that it can be integrated on all platforms, bypassing the race, ethnicity, religion barrier. Throughout the years, both of the (extremely) generic cultures have evolved. Bangladesh is trying to educate itself, through my generation and surprisingly even the ones who used to be set in their ways. Their recent advances attribute to it (e.g. Dr. Mohammed Yunus winning the Noble Peace Prize this past year). The Arab community has taken strides through education of its younger generation. In other news, much of the Arab community is beginning to lose many of its young to the western ways. The same is true of the Bengali community.

You have to keep in mind that the communities I talk of, are based here in the states. More specifically, here in Michigan, where Dearborn is known internationally as having a great Muslim population. We may want to discuss or ponder about how region specificness can also affect the image or understanding of religion.

I did plan on covering the judgement topic, but I think this post is a painful read on its own. I commend whosoever has managed to read through it all, with their mind still, fully intact! lol

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresNVC and PCC

Hi all,

just a few questions about PCC and NVC. my wife tried to obtain a PCC but she was told its not available. i came across 2 web sites and they say its not available, one is from NVC. i have wrote a letter to NVC about it and will send it with the IV/AOS package.

(website removed by request)

second question is do i have to wait till NVC sends me the instruction package to send the IV/AOS package or can i send it without receiving the instruction package?. The guy that did my case says you have to wait for it.

I am trying to send everything on Monday. This is why my case is being delayed. Thanks for your help in advance.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWhen does NVC update

HI all,

I expressed mailed my AOS/IV packages on 10/14 and NVC received them on 10/15. Every time I call to see what is my status and get the AVR system it tells me that NVC sent me a packet of documents on 09/21. I called them got a agent on the phone and he tells me let me get your E-mail for both of us. So I did give them my E-mail and my wifes e-mail. Then i tell him what is my status he says they are waiting for my AOS/IV package. I told him I sent it out a week ago. He says its not in our system yet. My question is should I be concerned it's not there or just wait another week when it becomes 2 week when I sent it out? but when I look at people signatures it looks like they finish with in 3 weeks. Also when does the AVR update?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks Wayne but what i wanted to do is have the case get done in NVC asap. because my dad is in Iraq and he will be coming soon and wanted my wife to come with him but if she has a late appointment its going to be a different case.
