Does any one know how Islamabad embassy is 'behaving' these days? I've logged into VJ after a long long time. My mother-in-law is dcheduled for her IR-5 interview pretty soon. Also, does anyone know what kind of questions they might ask for this category?

QUOTE (WHITE COW @ Feb 4 2009, 06:32 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
We have been waiting forever for instructions from the embassy on how to approach my financee's ID issue. He has only Travel document (that embassy said would work in lieu of passport) and no passport or drivers' lic. The people schuduling his medical said the TD won't work... They must have letter from embassy saying that the TD is approved as proof of idenity.

Its been 3 weeks and still no answer from embassy. They say to be patient but oiy..... I am afraid that the 4 month expiration on the NOA2 will expire.

Is there any help that I can get state side to help with an embassy?

Thanks in meantime.
White Cow

We were told the Travel docuement will work and is accepted. He has status of legal right to remain in UK. The home office actually took his passport from his country of origin.

The wait is life-consuming! However, you've got to admit that waiting for something, and then finally getting even a bit of that something is absolutely EXHILARATING! I know you can relate since you did receive your NOA2's.

BlueRain77!!! Don't rely on the automated message because it is purely for immigrant visa's. It won't say that yours has been received even if it has been! You need to talk to an operator anytime between 6pm-12am Eastern time (gmt -5).

Good Luck

(I was doing the same (checking the automated service) until I decided to speak to someone, and so I asked. Also they email back within 3-5 business days...)

It isn't a stupid question because I had the same one just a little while back.

To get case status info, you can call or email. When you call, they give you a straight answer (yes, no). When you email, they wait 3-6 days to reply. I think its to give the system a chance to receive your petition, but who knows.

Here is the email that I sent to NVC (NVCInquiry@state.gov) with the subject line: K1 Visa Inquiry

Hello,

My name is Mawa R----- (DOB: ---. --, ----) and my petition for a K1 Visa for my fiance E------- M------ (DOB: ---. --, ---- ) was approved by the USCIS on the 24th of October 2006. I would like to know if my petition has made it to the National Visa Center and when it will be sent out to the embassy in London, UK. My USCIS K1 Petition Case Number is WAC----------.

Thank you,
Mawa R-----

-----------------------------------------

First Response within 3 days:
Good Morning,

Your inquiry indicates that the approved petition has been forwarded to the National Visa Center (NVC) for processing. The NVC has not yet received this petition from CIS (Citizenship and Immigration Services).

Regards,
National Visa Center
AKD

Second Inquiry (as soon as I received the first response):
Same as first except subject line read "K1 Visa Case (WAC----------) 2nd Inquiry"

Second Response (received today, 5 days after inquiry)
Dear Sir or Madam,

Your inquiry has been received at the National Visa Center (NVC).

Please be advised the NVC case number assigned to E------- M------'s visa petition is LND2006------. Please be sure to include the case number in the subject line of all email inquiries.

The NVC has recently received the approved 129F petition filed for a fiancé of a US citizen. The file will be processed in approximately 2-4 weeks and forwarded to the appropriate US Embassy/Consulate General. The Embassy/Consulate General may or may not request additional information before interviewing the applicant for a K1 non-immigrant visa.

Regards,
National Visa Center

Some people have mentioned that it is a more detailed name check or hit that can cause a case to go into admin processing... I'll have to search for the post that I'm referring to...

Here's the post... http://www.visajourn...p;hl=name check

At National Visa Center (State Department) stage, a separate independent NCIC database check is done by in-house FBI staff in connection with information supplied in the DS-230. Based on results, NVC has the option to request full fingerprints to be taken at post. NVC checks can usually be completed in 24 hours. In some limited cases involving high-risk visa applicants meeting certain specific criteria, NVC also does Security Advisory Opinions (SOAs) before sending the file to Consular Post.

National Visa Center (Dept of State)DHL shipment from NVC and delivery notification
I did a search on the timelines and it looks like the consulate in London processes received applications with 3-5 days; packet 3 seems to be received by the beneficiary within 7 days of the consulate receiving the application. I'm crossing my fingers in hope!

My case is in London according to DHL (if it is indeed mine), perhaps it'll be delivered tomorrow. This is a mix between nerve-wracking & exciting!!!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionHELP Packet 3 lost in the mail!!!!! (K3, London)
For those that have already returned or plan to return packet 3... (regarding DS-156) since there seems to be a concensus on the fact the DS-156 is supposed to be sent in duplicate, did you fill out the electronic form once and have the option to print twice?

Perhaps I'm just being silly, but no one did complete the electronic version twice, did they?

This is in anticipation of my fiance receiving packet 3....

US Embassy and Consulate Discussionanother I-134 pitfall??
Regarding the question of what needs to be notarized... I simply had the second page of the I-134 notarized by my bank. They simply shuffled through the supporting evidence (including a document they drew up for me) and signed, dated, stamped, and clamped it.

:)

US Embassy and Consulate Discussionco-sponsor
I was told (by an immigration lawyer within our family) that if the primary sponsor earned more than 10k during the previous tax year, they are required to file the I-134.

In my case, I am required to file it, but I am no longer working as a co-op where I was making the money... but a full-time student. So we also have a cosponsor.

Quick Question... how are the main sponsor and cosponsor distinguished? Is it listed anywhere, or is it indicated verbally during the interview? Thanks

Or why not do what I did. Fill it out, print only the first page.
Then, change the date on the second page and print only the second...

It's a miracle! Thanks sooooooo much VJ members who keep us sane throughout the entire process (it's not over yet!).

His interview was exactly a week ago, and he had booked a flight for tomorrow (180 GBP). We were fretting about when he would finally get the visa and whether we'd have to cancel the ticket! But, he got the passport with visa this MORNING!!!!

I'm so happy right now!

i forgot to mention that for the birth certificate you will need to go to the city he was born in to obtain it. as for the police report, i think it can be done in any city. EX. my SO was born in Korca and had to go there for the BC but he got the police record from tirana.

Europe & Eurasia (except the UK and Russia)albanian police certificate
hi, my SO is albanian. im in albania now visiting him. We went to the police station at around 7 in the morning and asked for a background check from the "ministry" and they said ok and for us to come back at 2PM. we showed up at 2 and there was a crowd of people. you just stand there and they call your name from a window and hand out the papers to the crowd when you say "here". so it was the same day.

as for birth certificate... took 1 day also. make sure you bring a passport picture for them to staple to the birth certificate.
good luck.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionHad Interview Today
In Albania, when you get the missing documents, you call the embassy and they make you an apptment to come and give it to them within a few days.
My friend was told at her intweview that she needed a copy of a document and when she called the embassy, they told her to come in at 1 the next day.
