IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresmedical for CR1/IR1

Hi all,

My medical is coming up, and i was wondering if anyone knew how much it will cost for me and my 4yr old son?
we both are missing one shot.so take that in consideration when you reply, if it helps. i called the medical
facility that will conduct the medical and was told by the lady on the phone to take $50,000 jamaican dollars
that is roughly us$700.00 but i think that is way too expensive. so if any one can share any info that would be
appreciated, and anyone from jamiaca who had their medical done already would be an assett.

thanks guys.

If you are going to Mobay it is $100 and I think I saw it somewhere that kids are half price. Shot at Mobay Hope runs about $5000 per shot. It you can get to the clinic before your appt. that would be great or you can go to a doctors office to get your shots that's what my husband did and it cost about $7000 for 7 shot

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresQuestions on Fiance Letter of Intent
QUOTE (Bobby_K1 @ Oct 22 2009, 02:39 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I reviewed the sample Fiance Letter of Intent on this VJ website - which essentially contains the following main body of text:

"I, (applicant’s or beneficiary’s name) , do hereby state that I am legally able and willing to marry (petitioner’s or beneficiary’s name), and intend to do so within 90 days of my arrival into the US using the K-1 visa."

Is this sample body sufficient for the purposes of the K1 visa? In your experience, is this example complete or are they looking for more than just this one line as intent to marry?

Also - does this document need to be notarized or stamped by some legal entity before it is sent out? Or do they simply want us to sign this document normally?

Finally, since both the US Citizen and the Fiance will have their own personal letter of intent - I assume that:
* The US Citizen will use his permanent address in the USA and the address of his USCIS service center
* The Fiance will use her permanent foreign country address and the address of her Embassy in the foreign country

Thanks !
this is what I did when I submitted my letter of intent: I G.... and J..... do hereby state that we are legally able and willing to marry and intend to do so within 90 days of my arrival into the US using the K-1 visa. It worked becauseI just got approved!

I just want to be prepared for fees that, might be unexpected. Are they're any hidden fees, the fees I know of is the medical exam$85, the police certificate$80, and the fingerprint which I am not sure the fee for that. Also I would like to know how long did it take your fiance to receive the VISA in hand from the approval date.I was told that they use to give it to the beneficiary that same day if their appointment was in the morning. They would have to come back later that afternoon to pick it up. please share your experience Thanks in advance!

Hi and welcome...they have not done that in so many years I can't even remember how far back. on the fees, to cut the cost of the medical in case shots are needed have your fiance get his shot records and take it to the local clinic...the shots are cheaper there than having him get them at the medical...I can't think of any hidden fees...one of the most recent yardies who went through will answer you questions with the PC and fingerprinting....wait did he file for the non-impiedment form yet...you really need to get the PC now

No what is the impediement form? This is my first time hearing of this.

The non-impediment is a form that Jamaican nationals must obtain to ensure that they are not married. The form cost $5000JM and has to be ordered from the Register General. It takes about 10 business days to receive. From interview to visa and hand it takes apprx. 7 days, but this can vary. It can actually take up to 2 mnths.

It's actually $5600

Depending on the consulate, I'd say good luck with that. Even if it were a routinely 'easy' consulate (London), that huge of an age gap is going to be scrutinized big time.

There are some very tough consulates where the age gap is not going to raise any eyebrows. If it's very common in the local culture for the husband to be much older than the wife then it won't be a big problem. For example, they see a lot of middle aged men sponsoring very young girls in Manila, but I'm pretty sure she'd need parental permission to marry. There are also some Islamic countries where this is not uncommon - the Prophet himself had a very young wife.

Regardless, she's going to have to meet the requirements of the state in the US where she marries.

That's not much older that is waaaaaaay older.

My friend married first then filed for her citizenship. It's not a good idea to wait for your citizenship first because sometimes you can run into problems especially when it comes to the name check.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresVisiting fiance ffor a few months
You can buy a one way ticket to Jamaica they will not bother you I did it twice before and my sister did it a few times herself. You just put a estimated time on your departure form. They usually don't ask about your returning ticket. Your ticket might be more or less expensive it depends on the month you are traveling.

I agree with Crossed_Fingers, if you don't have money to pay for your child how the heck you going to have money to send to a female. He needs to get his priorty straight. Why do your friend wants to get with someone that doesn't like to take care of his repossibility.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresQuestion 41 on DS 230 part II

Hello All

I have a few questions regarding the DS 230 partI

Since the embassy requests that the DS 230 partI form be signed and sent back, will my fiance have to bring partII to the interview?

Regarding the spouse information on the DS 230 partI. My fiance is a widow and he put his deceased wifes info there. He made sure to put ( Deceased)before her family name in box 14, previous spouse deceased, please refer to death certificate in box 16 and N/A in box 17.
Should that suffice?

Lastly, question 41 on the DS 230 partII is, Have you ever been charged, arrested or convicted of any offense or crime?
Does this question pertain to Jamaica or the United States or both?

Your input is alway greatly appreciated

Joi

Your fiance only needs to complete DS230 part I as stated he will not need to worry about part II so question 41 he doesn't need to worry about. Make sure your fiance submit a copy of the death certificate.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresquestion/ HELPFUL advice

Im a february Filer.
my fiance lives in Jamaica... I am attempting to plan a wedding... does anyone think that if we set the date for late October the likelihood of him being here is high??! I really was hoping for an outdoor wedding... though at this point I dont care where it is/ when as long as hes here.. but I just was looking to get some advice for those who have completed some of the process, see if its possible. We have a pretty basic Visa, no kids involved, no divorces... though it is being filing in Vermont- and i hear they're sllloowww. I Dont know.. but any advice you could give me would be awesome...
Thanks

I was a K1 filer and I din't start making wedding preparations until my fiance got his visa in his hand. You never know what can happen to delay the process so it's bet u wait until he is approve.

Hi Community, what is included in the $110 for the medical appointment? I know the immunization shots are separate. We were told to bring an extra $20,000J. What would we need that money for?

The extra $20,000 is in case they need shots or something

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSurprise you have a 4 year old daughter!!!

Half way thru k1 visa and my fiancé finds out he has a 4 year old daughter. ####### do I do now? Should I with draw!?
He's never even seen the kid.

I say he should do a DNA test you know lots of men get (JACKET) in JA so don't be so quick about it, also I still wouldn't put that he has a child on paper because technically he dosen't know especially if his name is not on the BC. Quick story my aunt husband thought he had a daughter for over eighteen years and when he filed for her DNA test prove he wasn't the father and all along he thought she was his child.

That would be a miracle Barbara J! Pretty sure I'll continue to panic...about this and many more things in the near future  Seems to be a constant state these days. Thanks for the positivity!

Went my husband went for his K-1 interview they did not ask for any phone records or ask to see any pictures so it is possible that they may not ask for phone call records.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCalling card fiasco!!!

I see where you are coming from. No, Jamaica isn't a hard country to visit, but I have a son who I need to bring with me, that= at least $1000 per trip. I also have to take off of work to visit. I'm not made of money. I have the incoming calls from him on my phone log, but that's only a couple of times a month, it's much cheaper for me to call him with my calling card.
There is nothing I can do now about not having the records from the calling card. I was just looking for advice about what I could do and how many months of phone records would be sufficient.

He can't top-up for the month then it will be more cheaper for him to call you and you won't spend that much mo9ney on phone cards.

Hi Vj members, I finally received packet 3 yesterday which gives me a happier feeling after waiting over ten days before it arrived at the post office. This is a question i want to ask to anyone who knows the answer. My fiance filed the petition for me and my two kids since they will be getting visas and there will be a $240.00 U.S each that must be paid at the embassy on the day of the interview. Does it mean that a paymment of $720.00 U.S  for the three of us or its only the $240.00 that must be paid since they are under my petition?

You all will pay separate fees!

National Visa Center (Dept of State)need clarification about the NVC require documents
hi, i was reading about the Pre-NVC / Preparing Documents Before NVC Processing. i want to start collecting document, my first question is, my SO reside in nigeria, how can he goes about obtaining the Police Clearance Certificate and the medical when the time reach for him to submit the documents. Do the the embassy sent him or does he makes his own appontment.
Secondly, when the time reaches, the Marriage certificate, birth certificate, Police Certificate; passport biographic page are all these documents mail to NVC or are the documents present to the CO during the interview? if the original documents are mail, do the CO return the the original birth and marriage certificate?
anybody who have knowledge about this can help, but i really want someone who went through the visa process in nigeria to respond.

HI, I AM NEWBIE, I AM VERY GLAD TO COME ACROSS THIS SITE; IT HAS BEEN VERY HELPFUL AND KNOWLEDGEABLE. I JUST READ A POST FROM A MEMBER ASKING IF THE LENGTH OF COURTSHIP AFFECT CO DECISION. IN MY CASE I AM A NEWLYWED, I met my husband through a family friend, we started communicating via phone and emails at the end of October 2008. The long distance relationship was getting very serious, I wanted to be sure that I do not invest lot of energy and time into a person that I have not met. By the Grace of God, as RN, I had an opportunity to travel to Nigeria in January of 2009 on a medical conference. Fortunately for me, during my busy scheduled, I found time to meet Mark (my husband) in person. We had time to get to know each other well, we are both compatible. We both want the same things out of life, such as family, kids, stability, and careers. In the short time we met, I find Mark to be very honest and trustworthy, I feel I can trust him and depend on him, and vice versa. On January 14, 2009, Mark and I legalized the relationship and became husband and wife. I am back home, in 2/09 I file for both I130 and I129F; I received the first notice for both. The single short visit will not impact petition approval but you will be wise to visit once or twice more and for longer if possible before the interview. This all goes to show a genuine ongoing marital relationship with your spouse. It's critical to any family visa process but particularly so when the foreign national is coming from a high fraud country. Anecdotally, there are "high fraud" countries and then there's Lagos. Strap in for an exciting ride.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionPassport question
I'm sorry...I'm still a bit confused. Intially when we met, we tried to get a tourist visa/passport for him to visit the US and it was denied for "ties not being strong enough to his country." That's when I discovered how difficult it was for people outside of the US to come and visit!! Thus, discovering the K-1 visa route and then VJ!! I was reading that many people are refused tourists passports/entry into the US but that it is not neccessarily a strike against the person requesting especially if it was no real reason other than the US person at the embassy deciding that he/she could not visit. So does he apply for a passport again from his country to visit the US or once the K-1 is approved then a separate passport will be issued... Any understanding that someone could give would be greatly appreciated!
