I beleive.....the only way you can have/get a jamaican passport is if you become a citizen by marriage vs resident by marriage. There is more work involved with becoming a citizen...also, Jamaica is ok with dual citizenship but the US isn't so it is something that you don't want the US to know about....

The US has no problem with dual citizenship with Jamaicans.....

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaYardies at home and Farrin (part13)
One warm night in 1993, as he was walking along the road in Negril, a handsome soldier who booked a trip to Jamaica on the spur of the moment was approached by a man on a scooter and asked if he wanted to buy some weed. He smiled and said no. The man then asked if he wanted anything else. Laughing, the young soldier said the only thing he wanted to be was as lucky to find such a beautiful girl as the man had on the back of the scooter. The man laughed and said that the woman was his cousin.
They rode off into the night.
Later on that night, the girl on the back of the scooter was partying at a bonfire night when she noticed a man staring at her. She danced, she walked around and the man would not take his eyes off her. So she walked up to him and asked him why he was staring at her. The soldier replied that it was her beautiful green eyes that entranced him. She laughed and went back to partying.
The next day, she was swimming and playing around with some friends and she saw the same soldier sitting on the beach. She smiled and went over to talk to him.
He asked her out on a date later that evening and they danced the whole night together.
He was leaving the next day, so took her address, she didn't have a phone.
A week later, a huge bunch of flowers was delivered and a few days after that, the letters started coming.
Two months later, she same home and the soldier was standing on her door....
A year later, the green eyed girl and the soldier went to the Embassy and she was turned down for a visitor's visa.
The only way she can visit you is if she was your wife the man at the desk said with a twinkle in his eyes.
So the soldier walked out of the Embassy and across the road into a jewellery store. He got down on one knee, not caring his white pants were on the floor and proposed on the spot.
A year later, the green eyed girl and her two small sons came to the USA as the soldier's wife and family.

Today I photographed their first grandchild!!

Thanks for the support....ask away....I have just as many questions......lol.....got a lot to do to make it happen!!!

Couple things....I don't remember whether you're married yet?
If you aren't, you need to apply for a work permit...

Also, are you preparing for the possibility that you DON'T get a job while you're in Jamaica??
If you have budgeted for that, then you're good!!

Have you thought about management positions in the hotels?? They pay fairly well and the conditions are pretty good!!

I seem to remember you saying you had a friend who would say you have a job waiting when you come back, but just making sure you know you'll need a SPONSOR willing to show and sign an affidavit of support for your husband agreeing to support him for the next 10 years...Also they have to show they have enough to support themselves, any dependents and you and your husband.

Apart from that, I think it's a WONDERFUL idea, there is NOTHING better than spending this kind of non-holiday time with him....best of luck!!!

Make sure if you're going to use their associate photographer that you see some of his/her work!!
And if you can, try and haggle, I can't see them turning down a wedding in these times!!!

And yes, the slide shows are incredibly easy to make, what's important is the PHOTOS!!
I would take the smallest package and with the money you're saving maybe even get ANOTHER photographer to shoot the reception...

Hard to say...
Wedding packages here start at $1000, but if you were say in the rural areas it could cost much less...I guess if you LOVE their stuff, it would be worth it to you for the most special day of your life right??
I am also looking at the fact they give you a copyright free CD which the vast majority of photographers will not - hell I don't!
Again, if you like DVD shows, it may very well be worth it because they include that in the package..

Now, the cost will be reasonable/high depending what others charge and what their standard of photgraphy is, I have seen another photographer, Misha, who operates out of Negril and I actually prefer her stuff. She is also cheaper, but doesn't seem to do the slideshows etc or travel....

The final answer I guess is that if YOU think it's worth it, it therefore is smile.gif

I am charging a LOT less than they are at the moment for Jamaica weddings for various reasons, one being that I need more weddings in my portfolio to showcase what I can do, but once I have 20 or so, mine will probably start at about $1000 or so...

Wow..this is expensive.

JaEnglish - is this reasonable?

Wow! SG prices really are up there. I am so disappointed. I have already decided that I want to book them for our wedding. I am even willing to work with their schedule though my heart is set on a date. I really like their work still, I can’t see paying $5500.

The good thing though is that it looks like you can piece together a package with the associate photographer for half the price and their work looks just as good. I know that we will only need the 5hr session. (If we were having it here, this is what we would have chosen anyway.) Then we could also book the 3hr session for another day, maybe before (perhaps an engagement shoot) or after the wedding. The main attraction with SG is the slideshow DVD set to music, but they are easy to make. Anyone could create one if you have a computer and the capable software which runs about $59.99. Since they supply a copyright free version of your photo’s this should be quite simple to do. I will just have to make sure to sinc the song we want, purchase the CD/DVD slideshow creator software and some writable DVDs. This way his mom, sisters, brother, aunts, cousins and my mom and family can all get a DVD and it won’t cost us really anything much beyond our budget.

With this we’re looking at $2600, which is much better than the $5500 or $4800 since our photographer/videographer budget was $2500. But if it was at JaEnglish prices, I would be much more willing to spread the word for business. Now I’ll just tell people get a cheaper photographer and create your own DVD.

Wow Nanny, you still haven't evicted that baby!!

You got everything ready now?

Couple things, not sure whether you have thought about a pacifier, I didn't want to give my son one, but the hospital gave him one.
If you have decided not to, make sure you tell the nurses just in case you have a C-section and they take her to the nursery.
I HATED the fact he used one, it used to drop out of his mouth while he slept and I'd have to keep putting it back in!
He stopped taking it during the day at around 4-5 months and then stopped taking it at night a few weeks after that, but I wished he'd never been given it in the first place.

Also, they have a bulb they use to remove mucus from her mouth and nose when she's born, make sure you take that home, if she gets a cold you'll DEFINITELY need it!!

Sunny, still check with MVA. It took that long to get an appointment for EVERYTHING....even to get an state ID. They have to view his foreign documents first.

If he has a valid I-94 or K-1, he can just walk in with two proofs of address, his social security number and his passport.
Then he'll have to do a 3 -hour drug and alcohol course, take the written test and driving test to convert.
He can drive on his JA license for up to a year.

Same here. Andre took the written 3 or 4 times before he passed. He passed the driving on the first try.

Written test was REALLY REALLY easy here....took me maybe 4 mins.....at least I got that out of the way...
