I have a pet peeve to vent about today. Why don't people who live in other countries (or states, for that matter) think about what time it may be where they are calling, BEFORE they pick up the phone and call? We had some GD fool from Germany call us at 2:30 this morning.

I picked up the phone, turned it off, and then threw it across the room. So sick of these calls whenever anyone feels like talking. It happens so often.

Call them back at 2:30 their time. Say sorry I missed your call since I was sleeping........ wacko.gif

Ever mistakenly taken the pen you signed a check or credit card with??

QUOTE
In early June, a Baltimore steamfitter was flagged for deportation while going through customs in Atlanta after a trip to his native country, Trinidad. The man, a permanent U.S. resident for 28 years, said he had never had trouble entering after previous travels abroad, but this time, records show, authorities' interest was piqued by a 1994 theft conviction. According to his attorney, Cynthia Rosenberg, the man had stolen the pen he used to sign a check at a Baltimore grocery store.

Tell me once we have 2 year green card can you file for the next thing (removal of conditions I thinkg) when you are 6 months til expiration?

You can file Removing of Conditions 90 days before your green card expires and then naturalization you can file 90 days before the immigrant has been a permenant resident for 3 years (minus time spent outside of the US).

You don't have to apply for citizenship either. We're only doing it for employment purposes.

Shem, so sorry to hear about Damien's dad sad.gif

As for citizenship, let me give you a scenario.

One day a permanent resident is driving down the street and a pedestrian steps out in front of him. He is going say 10 miles over the speed limit.
He tries to stop, but kills the pedestrian. Gets arrested and charged with vehicular manslaughter. Then is deported, never allowed to come back.
True story!
If your SO drives, this could happen to them ANY day!!

Moral is, GET YOUR CITIZENSHIP THE SECOND YOU CAN!!!!!

Everyone in JA seems to have a nickname. I met nuff people who had "real" names as nicknames. Ok...your birthname is Phyliss but you go by Lois? Why? I must admit though that I came away with quite a few nicknames from JA. Most people in JA don't call me my real name and some don't even know it.

Hmmmmm didnt expect people to have such a big problem with me. i am not suppose to be online at work but i was so upset i had to post. How dare u people tell me that he is using me or not tru?????? Just cause we don’t know each other long doesn’t mean we are getting played. u people don’t even know Winston or me so how do u think u even have a clue about us??????? i saw the p;oll in here about how people meet & a lot are like us. So what is the big deal?????? i really didnt expect people to be so mean. Not that i owe u people anything but just so u know it was me that talked about marriage and all that he just asked about our future. I did meet his whole family. He took me to his house a couple times. my sister came to & met everyone and everyone liked us so much. His mom and sister talked to me for so long and helped me learn to cook a dish. They were so welcoming and loved me from the first day. They are so excited Winston met a nice woman to be with. The mom talks to me on the phone and tells me how much she likes me and how great it will be to be a part of the family and she will help me with the wedding and everything. Offered to plan things and have me just send somr money to cover cost and she would arrange things for when i come back so i can enjoy the wedding. She has never seen Winston so in love so happy. She cant wait to see us get married. When i was there i really felt like i was one of them. Helped by grocery and clean house and laundry and everythings. I even stayed one night there but bc they didnt have electricity cause of a bill, Winston was really worried about me so i went back to the hotel and he stayed by my side the whole time. If he didnt love me i dont think he would have spent so much time with me and stayed w/ me so long.

As for some of u people that sent a message to my messenger thing saying i was fool and crazy and not living in reality that was not nice or friendly. I really didnt expect this from u people i thought i was going to be supported but i quess not

Wow Kimmy.......I understand what you are saying and the thought crossed my mind too........hhnnnn, how does anyone know? Are there any stories that have resulted in successful marriages on here of ones who met and married after a "short" time? How long does it really need to be to be real??? Just curious on people's standpoint on this.

Not that I personally know of.
I heard of MANY people getting married to Jamaican men within the space of a year, not one has worked out.
Some are still 'technically' together, but anyone can see things aren't working....

I have a topic/question for you guys today.

You know how most of us have met our SO's on vacation or something to do with one of us being somewhere different then just home. And, I said MOST, so no one needs to correct me there. In some of the forums, there is a strong trend towards meeting their men/women online and eventually going to meet them. Many seem to get engaged or even married on the very first visit.

I am so against internet dating FOR ME. And no one has been able to change my mind on that thus far.

My questions are have any of you ever met someone you dated or married via the internet? Do you know someone that has? And if so, how did it progress and how long has/did it last? Were there issues and if so what? Could you ever see yourself doing internet dating? Why or why not?

I think her reply was worded a little crudely. I wouldn't necessarily say Anti-Jamaican, but ignoranance. What I got from her was that she thought NotMrs. didn't really know her husband well enough...and she had a problem with their age difference. I think there is maybe a history between her and Sarah (maybe offline or via PM) because she didn't have enough info from Sarah's post to really state any of it.

There are always going to be people that rally around...people that attack...people that judge. I feel bad for Sarah (can't get used to typing NotMrs.), and hope that she come out of this ordeal okay.

Pregnant. My ex was useless and self centered, and totally not involved in my son's life. When he was 18 months, we were broadsided by a drunk driver and he was killed instantly - He was the light of my life and my joy - Yes, it was hard going through what I went through, but I truly believe that everything happens for a reason - My son was a wake up call to me to make some serious changes in my life, and now he's my angel.

Here are a few pics:

# The Constitution of the United States does not forbid dual citizenship. Indeed, the United States recognizes dual citizenship. This was decided in 1967 by the Supreme Court of the United States in the case of Afroyim v. Rusk 387 US.S. 253,67 S. Ct1660; 18 L. Ed. 2d. 757, which decided that a US citizen did not lose his citizenship after foreign naturalization. Justice Black in writing for the majority of the Court said:

“We hold that the 154th Amendment was designed to, and does protect every citizen of this Nation against a Congressional forcible destruction of his citizenship, whatever his creed, color, or race. Our holding does no more than to give to this citizen that which is his own, a constitutional right to remain a citizen in a free country unless he voluntarily relinquishes that citizenship".

# A person who is born in the United States and becomes a citizen of the U.S. by birth, and who voluntarily becomes a citizen of another country and participates in that country's parliamentary elections, cannot be deprived of his U.S. citizenship as a result of such conduct.

# An Article "Questions and Answers on dual U.S/other citizenship" states in paragraph 2 that "The official U.S. State Department Policy on dual citizenship is that the United States does not favor it as a matter of policy because of various problems they feel it may cause, but the existence of dual citizenship is recognized in individual cases".

I beleive.....the only way you can have/get a jamaican passport is if you become a citizen by marriage vs resident by marriage. There is more work involved with becoming a citizen...also, Jamaica is ok with dual citizenship but the US isn't so it is something that you don't want the US to know about....

The US has no problem with dual citizenship with Jamaicans.....
