I have another request from the Yardies.....

We need some good Jamaican music to give to our DJ since the wedding will be up in Redding and they just aren't hip to what's hot in current dancehall/reggae music.

Who has the music connections? JaEnglish? Philly?

I have a few songs I'm looking for specifically & then we'd like a whole bunch of danceable stuff. Would anyone with a huge catalog of digital Jamaican music be able to help me? I'll pay $10 a CD for some good stuff burned on disc.

We'll need some Beenie Man (mister LOVES Beenie), Kartel, Voice Mail, Tarrus (She's Royal comes to mind), L.U.S.T. Just As I Am (yes, we still love it) & stuff like that. Anyone have some of those titles? I know it's asking a huge favor but I don't know where better to turn than here and the yardies. And as mentioned I'm willing to pay. luv.gif luv.gif

I have gigs upon gigs of music, pm me for the tunes you want or suggestions!!

You know all this time I just knew his dad was jamaican. You son is so proud of his Jamaican culture. That's awesome. I wonder how my kids are going to take it being of 1/2 jamaican blood. Although, my hubby says if you are born here..you're American..and can't claim yourself as Jamaica. Is that true?

In the eyes of the majority of Jamaicans I know, the child will never be considered Jamaican unless they spend some serious time down there.
Was discussing this with a Cuban friend of mine. She says as longs as one fo your parents is Cuban, you are Cuban no matter where you are born. In my experience, as long as you weren't born in Jamaica, your whole lineage could be Jamaican, you aren't.
While I wasn't born in Jamaica, I lived there from 7 until 19. Even that is sometimes not enough for some people to consider me Jamaican UNTIL I talk to them for a while lol....I never say I'm Jamaican though, I'll say I grew up there.

Would you pay $150 for that?

Question is simply, do you want to donate $150 to your university?

On the subject of weed smoking, I have never smoked, but have no problem with a guy that does. My mother and father both smoked heavily and openly in front of us.If anything was a positive thing in that it took away any mystique smoking had.
My husband doesn't smoke, but as long as it didn't impact on us, I would have no problem with him smoking...Maybe it's how I was raised, but I really don't see the big deal....

Now, you know we don't always see eye to eye (probably NEVER will lol), but one thing I have ALWAYS admired about you is that you don't put up with bulls*it.....You are a strong woman, a caring woman and I know you will find a man worthy of you one day.

QUOTE (Jomo's girl @ Jul 9 2009, 10:01 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I think today is the day I spill my guts cause it fits this conversation. Those that already know this, thanks for listening to my vents and having such strong shoulders. Those who don't.....well, maybe this can help you one day.

Andre smoked weed in JA. Pretty regularly. He was in no way a deadbeat....he had a full-time job, took care of his family, and went out with friends. After much warning from me, and the fact that his sister had to pay the doctor to get her failed text fixed, he quit about 2 months before the medical and passed.

Fast forward to the US....it's expensive here. I'm the only one working and there are still residual LDR costs, additional ones, and the whole AOS/Green card thing going on. He bugged me enough that I gave him $40 a check to spend on it. Eventually, that wasn't enough "allowence". I started feeling like ####### by the things he was saying, so I caved. Got to $100 a check. In the drug world, that's not much. But, in the one paycheck world, it's tough. After failing a drug test for his first job interview, he eventually found a job. He started putting his own money towards his soon to be ever increasing habit. You know the drug laws here.....they can confiscate things if they so desire. I had lost so much in this LDR, I could not afford to lose anything else. I caught him lying.....smoking before work, in my car, DURING work, after work, around the clock. Wierd things started happening like major car problems only when he was driving, things missing, money missing, evidence of parties while I was at work but no one there when I got home. It turned into him working, smoking, and then falling asleep. I was alone and loney. I fought with him.....for him.....for a little over a year. We even had an incident where my cousin was mugged by someone who knew Andre's name and described me. Scary stuff.

He knew of my unhappiness with it all. He knew the consequences of getting caught. Hell, he was working up the management ladder at work. I kept warning there would be random drug tests eventually. The last straw was the day I came home to find him in the same room as my kids....him smoking and them watching a movie. I blew my top. Told him I was done. In the end, I chose not to engage in illegal activities and not to risk the lives of everyone I love and everything we have because of him. I gave him everything and he turned out not to be worthy of it. Not to even seem to care.

We began seperating the end of last year. At first it was cordial. It didn't end that way. I have not spoken to him in months. We can't even be near each other without the police involved anymore. 2 months ago, our divorce was final.

Don't mourn for me. I am fine. In fact, my friends and family will tell you I am happier today then I have been in a long time. I have moved on and life is good. I don't live every day in fear cause of his stupidity anymore. And, I'm not lonely anymore.

He lives in our old apartment and has a roughly 4 months pregnant girlfriend. I wish him the very best. I just don't want anything at all to do with him anymore. In fact, he was in the hospital for 2 weeks recently with sickle cell complications. I did not go visit him. My 17 year old (today!) son went to visit him. I told him if he was dying, call me and I would go up there. If not, sorry.

The moral of my story is if you have reservations about the drug issues now, please talk about them and work it out however it suits you. But, know your limits and think about the consequences. Drug usage in the US is a completely different thing then in JA. I don't know of a single JA man who truly understands that NO MATTER WHAT THEY SAY.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaYaadies, how long did it take to get AOS approved?
QUOTE (DTunda @ Aug 9 2009, 07:35 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Blessings to all yaadies and all our other VJ friends!

I'm new to everything: visajourney, US immigration proceedings etc so I need the help and guidance of fellow yaadies (and other VJ friends).

My USC fiance and I are about to file the papers for the K-1 visa. I think our lawyer will send it off either tomorrow or on Tuesday. As soon as it is sent I'll start a time line.

Since that process has started, I'm now looking to the future and trying to prepare for the next level (that's assuming God help us and our K-1 petition does not get denied for any reason! We don't think it will, but you never know!), namely the AOS.

So just a couple of questions:

1) On average how long did it take other jamaican citizens to get their AOS approved and have their conditional GC in hand?

2) How much in fees did you have to pay for the AOS and EAD & AP, if applicable? Doesn't have be exact amount if you can't remember, just roughly.

3) Can you seek all types of employment with EAD? A Norwegian friend of mine who lived in LA could not work as an actress using her EAD. I found this very surprising as I thought the EAD gives you permission to work in ALL fields until you get your GC? Any insights on this particular issue is highly appreciated!

4) For those who are applying to lift conditions, how soon before your conditional GC expired did you apply? One advice I've been given so far is to apply 6 mths before the expiration of your conditional GC. Does anyone else have any opinions on this?

It would be great to get some answers on these questions! I like going into things with my eyes opened. I know there will always be something unexpected turning up, but my fiance and I want to be as prepared as possible. We're also trying to map out the costs for this entire process from start to finish. Thanks in advance for all your help!

PS I'm a jamaican citizen living in Europe. Since there might be circumstances unique to those with a particular citizenship, I'm mainly interested in the stories of Jamaican citizens, but will gladly appreciate the advice, opinions and insights of other nationalities as well! Thks so much! D

1.I filed AOS in Feb, card in hand in May.

2.The price is set, I think almost $1000 for the whole AOS package which includes both the AP, EAD and GC.
HAd to pay extra for my medical.

3. Think someone is telling porkies. Only job you can't get are ones which specify that you must be a US citizen, usually only government jobs.

Now mek mi fass, we did acks yuh inna di yawdie tread, but yuh neva ansa, is yuh end up a Norway misslady???

While we're on the topic of sex, something just came to mind that hubby & I were discussing last night after I got home from school. He was feeling frisky & all I wanted to do was brush my teeth, start reading my book for class that we have to have 3 chapters read by next week & then go to bed. He asked when was the last time so I thought about it & said that it had been one week to the day exactly. (We had a busy weekend & too tired when we got home from everything.) He kept trying to work his charms until I finally said 'lef me!'. He asked what about tomorrow night & I said probably not because class goes even later & I'll be home even later & tired when I get home. So I said, "let's make a date for Friday night" & he tells me "no" & that it should just happen instead of us planning it. I told him that MANY people have to plan it due to busy schedules. So, how many of you have had to plan rendezvous??

ummm...I have never ever refused an offer rofl.gifrofl.gif

My husband is very solicitous though, he very rarely makes a move on weekdays because he gets home at 12am and I get up at 5.30am for work....

She hates taking anything from anyone, is fircely independent to to the poeint of cutting off her nose to spite her face.
She believes in the family unit, but she isn't very close with her family, she regards some of her friends as her family. She speaks her mind, could care less if your feelings are hurt, you aksed, she isn't going to lie. She refuses to give anyone respect just because of who they are. This has got her in trouble a few times.

Hmm. I don't know. But I don't feel I know you as much as Quana, DaDa, Sus, Jawi, mstee, KK, Philly, my2, Ells, dillon & the others. If someone were to ask me about you, I couldn't say anything but that you're married & have 1 or 2 children.

Finesse is married, has a son and a step daughter. She likes the color red and reggae music. She is pretty laid back until you push her too far and then she freaks out in a MAJOR way. She is sociable and has many friends from all walks of life, but treasures her alone time. She secretly wants to be a loner.
She likes sexy clothes, and could care less what anyone thinks of how she dresses. She likes to think she isn't a hoochie mama.
She tries to keep her son on the straight and narrow, but she admits she isn't big on discipline. She prefers to talk it through with him.
