CanadaDivorce

Hi all! Quick immigration related question --

A friend of mine now lives in Canada but lived and married in the Philippines when she was younger. She has since filed divorce against her husband (ex-husband) in Canada, which was approved and recognized in Canada. She is not a Canadian citizen, but still a Filipino citizen.

The Philippines does not recognize her divorce, as there is no divorce in that country. So I want to know, will her divorce be recognized in other countries who recognize divorce (ie. the US or UK for example).

I apologize if I am posting this in the wrong forum, I am not sure where it will apply to...

Yes.

I am so sorry to hear this happened.

If you are approved without interview, then it will not affect it at all. If an interview is requested, I would then contact a lawyer. I hope against hope you will be approved without interview!

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionWill we be asked about my i-485 sponsorship to my hubby when we go to remove conditions?

We moved last in June '09 because my hubby had a great job offer in a town 2 hours away from my home town. I had to quit my own job since we didn't like the idea of living separate for multiple reasons. I hadn't been able to find a job up here since we moved. I am now a stay-at-home mom to our daughter.

He's had his greencard since March '09. His salary is pretty healthy, but I was wondering if immigration will question us about my sponsorship to him. Since it became law binding the moment I signed the papers, I didn't know if they would bug us about me not having a job now? Because I figured either way, if he became jobless then we would worry about it. We're not due to do the i-751 forms until January, but I thought I get a heads up now.

I haven't kept up with this community since last year, so I am rather rusty about the things I read over & over while dealing with the K1 & AOS papers...it's all a vague memory...

There is no requirement of any proof of income. That is not an issue during ROC

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionI-751 with child
If the child is on the same appilcation, the total you should send in is $625.

I sent that in for my son and I and the check was cashed on Friday, so fee seems to be correct.

465 + 80 for me, plus 80 for my son + $625

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionGetting Married to Prove Marriage

My goal was to get a U.S marriage document acknowledging our foreign marriage certificate. When I went to the court they said U.S will acknowledge marriage license that is issued by any local or government authority ( including foreign countries). so I asked the clerk what I need to do if I lost/ got destroyed the marriage certificate and cannot be reproduced …you can always come to the court and marry you wife again so we can issue a document. … I will go to the court next week again to see if this can be done and I will update this post

Why are you asking for advice if you already know the answer?

And seem to refuse to accept any dissent since it's fixed in your mind?

Yes. It may take a while to get your package back, but as long as USCIS receive your package by 6/27, you'll be OKPosted Image !

I would assemble a NEW package and have it ready in case they don't send the old one back in time. The 27th is perilously close.....

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionCan't find I-751 extension letter

The problem is not UK immigration checking your passport upon departure. Your Air Carrier will not check you in for your return flight unless you provide valid documentation. They are on the hook if they let anyone board without proper paperwork. I am not so sure if presenting a photocopy and sweet talk will be sufficient, especially considering the current security circumstances we all have to deal with. Since I understand you already started your trip, I would strongly suggest that you contact the local Embassy/Consulate for assistance before attempting to return stateside.
Best of luck.

They have already returned.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionQuestion about I-751, and a K2 child.
I got a second NOA1 addressed to my son extending his status for a year. Did you not get that too? So two letters, one for you to travel with and one for you child?

Did not get biometrics letter for him which I expected.

Even though the DMV doesn't send out free licenses, you can go and pay $30 or so each for new licences showing the updated address.
I would do that.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionAfter 10 month and now an interview

I would be WELL prepared for your interview if it's for ROC. Most people aren't required to have interviews if they send in enough evidence they have a bonafide marriage.

Any evidence to support this theory??

Or are you just randomly throwing YOUR opinions around?

You can send the package in and risk a TOTAL denial, OR wait a few days and send your records in and give yourself a better chance.
I know which one I'd do.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionMay 2010 I-751 filers

I was only looking at CSC approvals. Trust me, it is absolutely heartbreaking to read that your case still is not approved as well. There have been questions from the remaining May filers what to do after we are out of processing time. Would appreciate if you could let us know what your actions were. Thanks.

My action is to wait. I will be eligible to apply for citizenship in February. They will be forced to adjudicate it then.

I think YOUTOO meant CSC filers, the group of filers we have been discussing here lately.

Umm...the CSC filers are not complete in April either.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionMay 2010 I-751 filers

I don't want to call that a flat out lie, but it has to be pretty close to that. See, they are nearly finished with the July filers, 70 % approved, and not even four months have passed. Three August filers have already been approved; under three months! I think, as always, that USCIS makes up answer as it goes. They hover at nearly the same completion rate of around +/-70% for the months of May through July. Only April is totally complete, so that leaves a third of us as the first month of filers in limbo! Next time one of us calls, the answer will be 6-10 months.

It is??
First this April filer heard of that.

LOL! Most people I filed with filed in FEB!!! I feel sooooo envious now!!! Here's to speedy NOA1!

LIz Leija, sorry for such question, but are you SURE you got approved today? What does your card production ordered date say? Cause if u're approved today, then that means I still have hope for my approval to come soon. Out of all the people who had touch on june 26, only me and elementem has left and i was thinking may be they skipped us or something. So if u can assure me u got the card production ordered message today, then i'm gonna be hopeful the whole week. And one more Q, what is ur LUD saying now? still 6/26 or today's date? Thanks in advance!

Umm....making theories up out of thin air only adds to your pain...I was touched on 6-26 too....

Well I'm in a nice pickle.
I received my first biometrics for June 4th on May 19th. Did the walk in biometrics on May 21st.

Now, got a second biometrics letter for June 11th. Along with a SECOND notice extending my son's stay for a year.

Called the USCIS, and the agent said to go to the first appointment I was given, even though I've done my biometrics. She kept saying they wouldn't have allowed me to do my biometrics early, I must be mistaken. Sigh.

So now I am not sure I should just go and show them the letters or what.

Mildly amusing was on the form they give you I had to tick race. Ticked both black and white (my mother is white, father black). The lady said I had to choose only one, so she said she'd go ahead and tick white since my skin 'is so pale'  Told her she'd have to find another box to tick lol! So apparently I am now of 'unknown' race.

OK, If there is an 'Amount Recieved' and the letter says 'IF you haven't already done please submit - lease of joint tenancy etc, that is the RECIEPT, the NOA1. At the VERY top it should say I-751 Receipt Notice
