Lawny, mek me fass inna yuh binnis. I see you are planning on getting married 7/23. What kind of wedding are you planning on having? I know you have a great big family and I can just imagine all the food and stuff you will have there. Just sitting here thinking of you and your upcoming wedding. lol

Claire, mi a go to the JP 5mins. $55/can't beat that. Then we're going to this garden to take pictures and go to lunch...then ROOKSING in Miami later on devil.gif . My dress came today and it's beautiful all of $39. It's a short off the shoulder summer dress (cream). I hope I don't look like a DUMPLIN in it. We're planning on having a large wedding in Jamaica in a few years. We'll see it plays out. Since most of his family and friends are in Jamaica. We're both from HUGE families and Jamaica will be the only place we can afford to have a large wedding. My aunts wedding on the 21st of this month has well over 500 guest. But you know Jamaicans, it will be closer to 700 people like my cousin's wedding in May last year.

Sounds like FI MI!!
My dress was $39.99 off Ebay laughing.gif
Shoes were $20 from Loehmans....Actually for my FIRST legal wedding, dress was £10 rofl.gif

Soooooo.......I noticed this girl on VJ posting up like a million pics.
She mentioned she had a baby, kinda found it odd she never posted any of her baby.
Being FASS, mi click on one of 'her' pics and checked out the photobucket album. I checked it out, had 'her' name there which when googled, turns out to be Miss Cayman 2007, who is a friend of someone I know. Just emailed him and got confirmation the pics were stolen.
Why on earth do GROWN, MARRIED, MOTHERS do stupid stuff like that????

Good Morning Dear God;

What a week. Lord, thank you for blessing me, my family and my friends. I thank you for hovering over us last week with the passing of my 6-month-old nephew. Thank you for blessing us with the 2 hours he was able to spend with us after his birth. Lord, I know that you have a plan for everyone and I just thank you for given me the strength to step up and deal with the things I had to put in place last week. Thanks for given me the strength to help my sister deal with her loss and for helping me to break the news to her daughter. Lord, we thank you for life and for everything that you've blessed us with. Amen.

Lawny, my heart goes out to you and yours.
I cannot begin to imagine the pain your sister must be going through, I can only pray that it isn't too hard to bear.

Grrr....venting time....

I love my mother in law to death, get on really well with her, but some things she does PISS me the HELL off!!

She does this thing where when she come to take the baby from me, she doesn't just take him, she'll stand there calling him, just so he'll stretch his hands out to her. May be a small thing, but annoying as HELL! I mean, what is up with playing stupid games like that? Then, when she gets ready to give him back, she won't put him in my hands, she'll just stand there with him in her arms, wanting me to stretch my hands out to him so as to see whether or not he'll come to me. And she does it ALL the damn time!!!
About a month ago, I'd stretched my arms out to him and he didn't immediately LEAP into my arms, so she started saying to him 'Oh you want to stay with Grandma, don't you want to go to Mummy?'
SO last night, I just sat at the PC and told her to put him down on the ground when she was ready.
So, she kept saying 'take him, take him' because of course she wouldn't be able to play her silly games.
I'm a frigging 33 year old ADULT, not a child playing 'Let's see who he likes best'.
Of course, no way of proving any of it, but I'm not stupid.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Thanks ladies,

I am not sponsoring her. My parents or granny would.

Only other way for her to get here permanently is for her to marry someone.

She may very well have a shot at getting a visitor's visa, they seem to give them out more willingly to older people. She could then come for a few months at a time. BUT, she could NOT officially work.

Any information would be great. Having a baby it is so hard now to keep up with this board. Congrats to all who are moving along with process and visas.

Finally back.....damn this 'vacation' was like NOTHING I've ever had before....Had to deal with my family and my hubby's fighting and arguing over the baby, Air Jamaica cancelled our flight, we came back a day late.....BUT checked our mailbox at 3am and my green card was in there! kicking.gif

Here's a story for all you guys.

Came through BWI with AP documents for me and my son, we had to go to secondary immigration.
I was talking to the officers, telling them I wanted to do immigration when I became a citizen, they were asking about my job in the UK.

There was this girl there who was pregnant.
Tru mi fass, mi did a lissen......
They were for whatever reason asking her about her visit here.
She had a visitor's visa, last visit was for two weeks in September.
They asked her why she was here, she said for a high school graduation and visiting her sister. They asked her when she was due and then asked where the unborn baby's father was.
She said he lived in Mobay. So, they went out and checked with her sister, they came back in and asked her why her sister said her boyfriend lived HERE in the states. She said it was an ex. They asked if she was going to get married here and other stuff. Asked her when she was due as well.
Anyway, they searched her case etc and then told her on this occasion they were going to admit her. She started asking them why was she stopped and rae rae, until one of the officers was saying if she wanted to argue, he could reconsider admitting her.
Anyways, I came out when she was still there and her sister who was waiting asked me if I came off the Jamaica flight and asked if I'd seen her sister. I said yes etc..The sister then started cussing about how she didn't know why her sister lied about having a boyfriend in the states etc
The sister finally came out and they went.
We were waiting for my in laws to come (whole NEXT story!) and I was thinking it would be quicker to rent a car and drive home. Was walking around looking for car rental info and the immigration officer who I was chatting with about wanting to do immigration came out on his way home.
He said 'What would YOU have done with that girl?"
I said I would have denied her entry on the fact she and her sister had conflicting stories.
He said 'WRONG!'
He said, let her in and see what happens.
If she gets married, her AOS will be DENIED on the basis of her telling them that she WASN'T here to get married and she would be banned.
He said if she goes back down and then tries to enter again, she won't be admitted by any officer because of the notes in the system.

I was like damnnnnnnnnnnnnn.........

Thanks for the suggestions! We are making our own cake this year kicking.gif and the hubby doesn't like can ackee no0pb.gif I should get some just for myself though!

Let me just say I am paying 68% of my order price for shipping...that is SO not right! protest6wz.gif

There has got to be a better way to do this!

I just baked a 'test' cake, (baked here in the states before and it didn't come out anything like when I baked before), but this time came out perfectly!
Couple tips in case you need them!!
You can use Manischewitz concord wine to soak the fruits in instead of red label wine. If you haven't soaked them for months, you can boil them in the wine until soft for the cake.
Make sure to use non-stick baking tins, greased with butter or margarine.
Buy a small spray bottle (I actually got mine in Sally's a hair supply shop!). Either just put some wine in the spray bottle or a mix of rum and wine.
When you take the cake out, let it cool for 5 mins, then take it out of the baking tin and put it on a plate. Spray it LIBERALLY all over with the wine/wine and rum mix.
Then wrap the whole cake (and the plate underneath) in cling film for a few hours.

Disregard if you've baked black cake before!!

How can couple just starting out afford this, doing the AOS, I sure feel for them and then not being able to get their EAD right away either so the guy (or gal) can help out? What is our stupid government thinking?
If Lake could have worked right off the bat, we wouldnt have been in this ridiculous in debt over our head mess, and I am thinking he would have been a whole lot healthier as well. Sitting around for almost a year was hard on him, on me, awful on our budget, and I really blame the government for him being prediabetic to some degree, with "sitting around phase". You ladies need to try a deep fried turkey! I know it sounds weird or greasy. But its not! And sooooooomuch better than regular turkey. I don't care for turkey either but the deep fried one....when seasoned correctly is laced with juices and spices all throughout. It is like nothing I have ever had. makes you want to get up in the middle of the night, sneak in the kitchen and have a midnight snack.

I am a Black Friday shopper. Its really not that bad when you go at the right time....Either early or late. You just have to know what you want. Don't go expecting to lollie-gag around the store. Get in and out. Go straight for what you want. Black Friday is really only good for appliances, electronics and maybe some expensive type clothing. The little stores will end up having better sales later.

Also Macys should be skipped on BF cause their best sale is ALWAYS the weekend after BF. I worked at Macys and I know how to work the sales and promotions there. Their door busters cannot be beat.

When I moved back to JA in 99, things hit my family hard with my dad losing his job and my stepmother being diagnosed with cancer (she died a year before we got married). Aaron used to give me lunch money, pay for my school books, give me gas money for the car. When I moved back to the States, he used to send me money if I was short one month. When God blessed me with a better job, if he needed anything, I would never hesitate to give it to him. When they fell behind on the mortgage on his parent's home, I had a life insurance policy that my dad cashed in for me and I gave them all that money to get caught up. He has done so much for me, that I will never hesitate to do ANYTHING for him. I remember when I wasn't able to pay my tuition one year, he went and got a loan from NCB to pay for my last semester in school. I thank God that I got a man that I can work with and build our lives together. He just wants a job so that he can start supporting his family, he says everyday.

And that, simply put, IS LOVE......
My husband always cusses me because I'll look at a photo and make my mind up, I saw REAL love in that photo of you and him, and I also saw your husband is a MAN....

I asked those people I did about love, because in my opinion, they have strong, productive, genuinely healthy relationships and I already knew the answer without being told or knowing much about their relationships....

Yeah, I take him things and he accepts them and is very greatful, but he has never asked me for anything. I sent him money once and he was like, "What is this for?". I told him to do whatever he wanted to do with it. When I went ot Ja last month, he drew the money our of the bank and handed it to me. It brought tears to my eyes. I gave it back to him and we spent it together on ourselves. When I was leaving he went out and shopped for things for me to bring back home. I told him he did not have to do that and he said, "you bring things for me that I did not ask for, so why can't I give you something to bring back home?" I am paying his Visa fee because I want to. He does not know that I am. I told his father I wanted to and he told me it was okay with him. I plan to send whatever I can to help him with the expenses he will be incurring. Jamaican men in my opinion come in two types.
Dogs and gentlemen.
Nothing in between.

The Gentleman is loyal, loving caring and proud. He will fight to the death for his woman and his family. He is respectful, jealous perhaps but never controlling.
He will work to the death for his family, never complaining.
He is a proud man, HE wants to provide for his family, in fact he feels almost less of a man if he can't.
He can be suprisingly stubborn about accepting money from his woman because he feels the man should provide.
He is appreciative of gifts, but refuses to allow his woman to shower him with them.
He loves and respects his woman, never tries to control or dictate her actions.
His clothes are clean, but does not require name brands.

The Dog pretends to be a gentleman.
He claims not to want to leave Jamaica, but quickly allows himself to be 'convinced'.
He professes his undying love for you at the speed of lightning.
He usually has a past girlfriend abroad.
He wants to marry you from almost the second he laid eyes on you, yet none of his Jamaican girlfriends were good enough apparently.
He wants all the latest fashions from abroad to match his upscale cellphone.
He is mightily unlucky, every week some calamity requiring money happens.

HEY THANKS FOR THE INFO. WE WELL I WANTED TO GO SOMEPLACE WHERE WE CAN JUST BE TOGETHER. NO HASSELS OR FUSS. I AM ONLY THERE FOR 4 DAYS AND DONT WANT TO TRAVEL TOO FAR FROM KINGSTON. CAN ANYONE SUGGEST A NICE SECLUDED HOTEL? MIND YOU NOT TO PRICEY.

THANKS

\the only hotels I know of in Portmore are motels...People just use them for a few hours if you get my drift whistling.gif

I heard there's a hotel in Hellshire, I guess you could ask your guy to get the number?

Where in JA is he from??

Ocho Rios is only 2 hours from Kingston, there you'd be overwhelmed with hotel choices....

are you filing for your husband and living in the US or it's the other way around? You wrote that your husband would love for you to be there to give birth so i'm wonder how you going to do the medical well the x-ray part.

The x-ray is not required for pregnant women. She is exempt because of that. Also, any vaccinations such as the MMR she will not need to have untile she's had the baby and finished breastfeeding.

Thanks for replying Kimmy, my husband will call them, i hope something good can come out of this, its soo stressful dont know how long i will be here before we can finally be re-united as a family lawks it hard, if the baby is born here another stress with paper work again.

Nuh worry girl, yuh case reach far, so mi KNOW everything will work out.
If the baby born there, it will be a US citizen, all that will happen is that you apply for a US passport for it.

Welcome!!

I would agree with you on the USA vs UK thing.

They have to have a BONAFIDE reason here to deny you, ie, traces of marijuana found in your blood or you admitted to it.....In the UK, they can just say they don't think it's a real marriage and you are out of luck....The only thing that seems a sure way is if you've been married and lived together a while before coming to the UK....I was on a forum over there http://www.ukresident.com/forums/ and I was horrified at some of the stories!!!
Best of luck with your journey is all I can say!!

The rules I read for the UK didn't sound that much more difficult then what we deal with in the US. Pretty much par for the course.

I did read they recently raised the cost of the UK visa.

Just hang in there. And, search around. There must be someone out there to help you, specific to your situation.

Good luck to you.

The RULES sound the same, but for instance, if you've only known the person three months or so, they can flat out DENY you just on that basis alone!!
Or because they don't like the age difference, etc etc

I tried that Sprint card and it didn't give me a good rate to a JA cellphone. It was about .18-.20 a minute, and it cost m elike $20 to buy it. is that the card you use?

Yes, didn't know what the rate was to Jamaica though sad.gif

Do remember that with this offer though, the rates are halved....
