Hi yardie family --

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. It's so great to read about everyone's anniversary's - confirms to me that this process in all it's craziness is worth it and can actually bring you closer together! I need a likkle favor today... AW is headed to Kingston today for an interview for a tourist visa. We started the tourist visa process since we are still new in our relationship and before we learned all of the other visa options (and before I found this wonderful site), so we decided to follow it through and then assess our next step after that. So after months of waiting just for an interview date, we finally got a date last week to go to Kingston for AW to interview. His interview is today (Monday) at 1pm -- he's so nervous. And I've quizzed him so much to make sure he knows what to say, but most importantly what NOT to say that I think his eyes are probably crossed wacko.gif But I know he will do well regardless and whatever the outcome happens to be is God's will.

So if you have the time to send us some good vibes and lift AW in prayer it would be greatly appreciated today.

Thank you, all!

Unruly

I will definitely keep my fingers crossed!!
Please please DO NOT have him tell them he has a female friend in the States!!
I'm sure you probably know this already though!

How long do you have to wait before your baby can travel out of the country. One year? Anyone know...Just curious....

I think most airlines will take the baby at 7 days old.

I would wait probably a month or two.

You go girl!!

Evening, all - I left work at noon today, went and got a spa pedicure, then came home and took a nap! I woke up and watched the Bucket List - incredibly sweet movie if you haven't seen it.

Congrats, Auntie Marlita, she's adorable! And I agree JAEng, the pics of your son just get cuter and cuter!

Gill, I agree with you about loving hearing the good stories - I am going to a baby shower next week for a friend who married a JA man on a K1 - they have been married 5 (I think) years, just bought a house, and this is their second child. She is a constant inspiration to me to have faith.

Welcome Army wife - I think you should be fine, as JAEng said - If your overstay was less than one year, then you should be able to adjust no problems - if it was greater than one year, you might have to file a waiver for the overstay - But I know people who have done similar and now have their green cards (not from JA).

Hope everyone has a good weekend - any plans?

I heard something about if the marriage was after more than 60 (or 90?) days in the country, the USCIS would automatically assume there was no intent to marry beforehand.....
I don't think she needs a waiver, I think those are for people abroad.....

I know she'll be just fine smile.gif

Good morning JaEnglish,

I know Charles County is quite, you need to come over her to Prince George's county for a little action. HA Ha. Yes, Maryland is quite, but we love it here. I made it out to the Carribbean market you referred me to and it was great. I'm stocking up on small things that would make my hubsand feel at home, so when he reaches here I will already have those things on hand. I'm also learning to cook some of the dishes from JA. Your little one is very handsome, he reminds me of my son when he was his age. They grow so fast, so enjoy him. I hope you have an ejoyable Saturday. You really should try going to the farmer market over at the National Harbor. It is really nice.

Roxcie, I have some recipes on this link http://www.visajourn...p;#entry1279762
Hopefully they will be helpful!!

What does the farmer's market sell?

I am new to this sight n hope that I can just jumpin'

I have a question that I would like to ask n hopefully someone can shed sum light on it!!

Long story short...I came here in March 2006 on a B2, got married in Dec.2007 n file for AOS in March 2008. I got the letter for an 'initial' interview July 2008 but I'm worried that I will get denied because I'm adjusting from a tourist visa...

Is there anyone here thats adjusting from a B2??....
Do you guys think I'm worrying over nothing??

please any advise/enlightenment will be appreciated!

As long as they cannot find grounds that your INTENT when you entered on the B2 was to get married and remain here, you will be fine!!

Welcome!

Girl, keep calling around.
To make it easier, just tell them that you want your records transcribed for immigration.
If you will be coming to DC/MD before AOS, I can give you the info for the surgeon I used who cost $50.
Also, if you do a search in the AOS forum for DR Arnold, he charges $20 (I think!) for doing it via mail.

There's a printout on a link here on VJ that you can print and take with you to the SS office if you are running into problems.

So far they've not been able to refute that....

No, that's wrong. He DOES NOT need any stamp to get his SS. All he needs is his passport and I-94 and to fill out the form at the SS office.

Louis can apply for SS# now... but he cannot work with it right? So really what is the point?

After we get married I apply for AOS... what about EAD? What and how do I do that?

I am so frustrated this is all like ALgebra to me!!?? UGH!

Thanks
Cat

Girl, TAKE THAT SS!!

He needs it to get a driving licence, apply for that now too!!

Also, if there are any delays with AOS, he may get stuck without one.

Here's what I suggest.

Next week Friday or after, apply for an SS number.
Check the requirements for a driving license. If he can't drive, get him a learner's permit.
Check with your local courthouse whether you can get your marriage license on the day.
Check for civil surgeons in your area how much they charge for transcribing his vaccination record. He DOES NOT need a full medical, just any other shots he may have missed.

QUOTE (Jomo @ Jun 19 2008, 12:39 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
For us, Andre had to be work authorized to apply for his SSN. It didn't happen till he got his green card.

You apply for the EAD, AP, and AOS all at the same time with the one fee. Just make sure to include the evidence for each seperately as they process them seperately. Of course, none of this can be done till you marry. Cart before the horse.

They were misinformed at the SS office you went to. Happens ALL the time, but EVERY K1 visa holder is eligible for their SS.

Lawny, that sounds PERFECT!!! I actually drove to downtown Manhattan & six different hat stores on L.I., looking for a pillbox hat w/a veil that they had in the 50's for my wedding outfit. Could I find anything and when I did find something it was $75 for a likkle white hat with a pissa mesh!

So, I went to e-bay and found the 'perfect hat', it looked so cute. It fit my head like a crown and had lavender sequins with a veil!! It turned out to be the sellers mothers wedding hat and she was selling it for $5.00!! I had a coupon for free shipping and got myself my pillbox hat!!! Everyone at the wedding was like where did you get that adorable hat? I told them Saks Fifth Ave!!!! laughing.gif laughing.gif

Gurl, yuh duh what yuh haffi do! As long as you are happy!

Bless, Gill

Lawny, mek me fass inna yuh binnis. I see you are planning on getting married 7/23. What kind of wedding are you planning on having? I know you have a great big family and I can just imagine all the food and stuff you will have there. Just sitting here thinking of you and your upcoming wedding. lol

Claire, mi a go to the JP 5mins. $55/can't beat that. Then we're going to this garden to take pictures and go to lunch...then ROOKSING in Miami later on devil.gif . My dress came today and it's beautiful all of $39. It's a short off the shoulder summer dress (cream). I hope I don't look like a DUMPLIN in it. We're planning on having a large wedding in Jamaica in a few years. We'll see it plays out. Since most of his family and friends are in Jamaica. We're both from HUGE families and Jamaica will be the only place we can afford to have a large wedding. My aunts wedding on the 21st of this month has well over 500 guest. But you know Jamaicans, it will be closer to 700 people like my cousin's wedding in May last year.

Sounds like FI MI!!
My dress was $39.99 off Ebay laughing.gif
Shoes were $20 from Loehmans....Actually for my FIRST legal wedding, dress was £10 rofl.gif
