Travelling in and out of JA has always been an adventure for me - On my first trip ever on Air JA (and to Jamaica), we had the most bizarre experience on the return trip - I was exhausted to the point that as soon as I sat in my seat I was asleep. Some Jamaican woman woke me up to cross over me into the seat next to me - She proceeded to hand me her baby to hold while she went and got the rest of her family sorted out. I couldn't believe it - I was dead asleep, then next think I knew I was holding this chubby baby!

r u serious?? girl that is too funny, not only that she put her baby in a stranger's arms, but one that was DEAD SLEEP DWL.. how nice it must be to live in a culture so carefree, JAMAICA JAMAICA

It's funny, when I first went to England, I used to treat babies the way you do in Jamaica, ie if they are doing something wrong you stop them, or talk to them etc....Stopped that pretty quick whistling.gif

Funniest thing is when my son was two years old, we went to Jamaica and every time someone passed us in the street, he'd wave. They would ALWAYS wave back and say hi to him, men women and children.
We went back to London he tried that a few times they didn't even see him lol....

I have held people's babies while they went to the bathroom, or looked after them on planes etc.....Again, when my son was younger and I took him to JA just the two of us, I NEVER had to worry about him at the beach because EVERYONE would be looking after him, it's just a cultural thing, children are a GROUP project, not just the responsibility of the parents....

offtopic45vn.gif Morning ladies, I have a quick question to anyone who has booked with Air Jamaica directly through their website. I found the cheapest nonstop flight for the specific times I wanted on there but I don't see an option to choose your seats before purchasing. I don't want to purchase without picking my seat as I know I need an aisle seat. Is it that they randomly assign a seat?

You have to call them.
They can assign you a seat there and then....Be warned will take up to half an hour to get through!

Morning all! I have been at work for an hour and a half already today blink.gif and fully intend to scam out early! I have my last postings due for one class, and 2nd to last for my other class. One of my teachers announced that our final would be optional - you can either take it and have it count for 1/3 of your grade, or skip it and have your grade based on the discussions and midterm - Since I have As on all of that, no final for me! So, three more essays and one final, then school is out for the summer!

Roxcie, I agree with you - but part of the problem with adding recommendations / suggestions into the yardie thread is that they eventually get lost - The yardies are a chattie crew, and are on Part 6 already!

I hope everyone has a good day!

We can add a separate thread or put it on wiki. On the Bank account, set it up here in the USA, whenever I am in JA, I use my ATM card to withdrawn money and it come out in JA dollars. So when I left the last tiome I gave him one of my bank card for one one my least use accounts(ladies we all know we have more than one Banking accounts) Ha Ha, and I just put funds there and they withdrawl from that account. The account was with one of my Credit UNion accounts, so I have no fees.

Another ting that works is to get one of Walmart prepaid credit cards and give it to them in Jamaica and keep the number here. You can top it up and they can then use the card in JAmaica

Shauna and likkle Ms...update kicking.gif

Kayla Leilani Francis made her debut at 12:18 AM (today), by emergency c-section. Shauna has been in the hospital for the past few days because her BP was up and the Docs didn't like that. Kayla is 8 lbs 12 oz and almost 21 inc long. Shauna had to have a vertical c-section because the little one was NOT ready to come out and was still tucked up so far and they "vacummed" her outta there.

She's tired and feeling good. The baby is great ! Shauna will remain in the hospital for up to 5 days. She won't be online for quite awhile.

Once she's out of the hospital and settled, I'll be making a trip to see her and the little one.

Kelly

Congrats Shauna!! May you have a speedy recovery from the C-section. Glad to hear you and Kayla are doing fine. kicking.gif kicking.gif

I am most definitely going to stick to my guns.
I would have got into it with my HUSBAND let alone anyone else if they kept being snarky about breastfeeding.
He's still sleeping, but he'll be having something to say when he wakes up.
I phoned and spoke to my FIL and basically told him as well that it's ridiculous that the baby had nothing, which he agreed.
He felt bad because he was at the house, but it wasn't like he knew anything.
I know she loves the baby to death, but dammit, she should KNOW better!

VENT alert!! And a bit of TMI

Yesterday, my MIL came and took the baby to church.
I fed him around 9-9.30am, she took him at 10.30am. Sent a bottle of water and a bottle of expressed milk. Church finishes at 2pm, she called me at 3.30pm to ask if I wanted her to bring over some dinner, which would take another hour. I was like fine.
She brought him back at 5.30pm.
He immediately wanted to nurse, drained both breasts.
After that, he nursed again in hour, and an hour after that. He went to sleep about 8pm, but must have woken up and nursed every hour throughout the night.
So this morning I asked her how much he had drunk when he was with her, because of how many times he had nurse during the night.
She said he had drunk NOTHING!!!!!!
In EIGHT hours, NO LIQUID??????????
He's TEN frigging months old, I would have
a problem with my SEVEN YEAR OLD not drinking for a DAY!!
So I told her basically that it was not acceptable, he needed have been nursed.
She started going on about she didn't agree, any liquid would have done.
So I said, but he DIDN'T have ANY LIQUID at all!!
She said she tried him with the water and the milk, but he didn't take it, which is typical of him.
But in my opinion, SHE SHOULD HAVE BROUGHT HIM HOME THEN!!!!

Then she made a comment about him being almost 11 months old and still breastfeeding and then went on to say I did it for my own benefit!!!
I said PARDON ME??????
What BENEFIT is this??
Sore nipples??
Waking in the night to feed him??
Unable to go on a diet??

I was so angry I said to her that both me and her SON had decided that the baby was going to be breastfed until he was a year old and NOTHING was going to change that.
I also said to her that I could understand if she was going on about me feeding FORMULA to the baby but BREASTMILK????

So she said she was busy and hung up.

Am I wrong for being angry????

I agree with you!! I would have died in 8 hrs with no drink. Poor baby! She should've brought him home if he wouldn't take anything else, especially when she knows he doesn't like the bottle.

Stick to your guns - you are doing the best that you can for your son by giving him this jumpstart.

No JA, your right. He cant go all day without having some form of nourishment. You know MIL's swear, they know everything. My previous MIL, did the same thing only stupider, southern women tend to feel that breast milk, or formula is not enough to sustain a baby so they start feeding em, table food early on, well my ex MIL decided to feed my son who was 11 months old , mashed up greens and cornbread and then sent him home, he hollered all night cause his dang tummy was hurting and he was gassy all night.

Not alot for some people but for me right now its a huge blessing. My scum bag ex (the kids dad) finally got arrested! Hes been running for almost a year now. I can move, start over, and finally move on with my life. But at the same time say a prayer for him, he needs it. I can only hope this will be his wake up call and he will get his act together.

What a day I'm having. So, I called to schedule my SO visit with the civil surgeon and I'm told he has to do a full physical. I thought all they had to do was verify the vacinnation records. I have a copy of his medical from Jamaica. Someone help me before I start pulling out my eyelashes. I had to go change my clothes. My beautiful off white linen dress is now BROWN, because of that clumsy ediat.
