Ok ladies next question...

I want to take something nice for my MIL and SIL when we go, they haven't called to ask for one thing since he's been here. I can't ask him what he thinks they'd like because he doesn't even no we're going. So I am asking for suggestions. I was thinking something from bath and body, or maybe a piece of jewelry.

I find perfume is ALWAYS appreciated....

Girl, you a mess..I knew u wouldn't let this slide. I was orginally offended by the comment. I was left wondering if it's my hubby that's leaving as soon as he gets his 10year.NOT!!! Since all the other predictions came true. It's one thing to judge a book by it's cover. Everyone on here wants the best for thier relationship. It was a pretty bold statement to make. My hubby may look snake in the grass but mi love him same way...

BTW MI NEED TO SEE THE PICTURE OF ALL THE MEN DEM yes.gif

My intention was not to offend anyone by my comment.
I am suprised you are offended seeing as though I made it abundantly CLEAR that my opinions are based on basically nothing....Also, I can't see why my opinion would MATTER!

As for your relationship, NO ONE has the right to judge it, and while one may not agree with your choices or have their opinions on your relationship, what anyone thinks of your relationship should be of NO consequence if YOU are convinced it is right for you.....

Do you think that voicing something like this puts you in the same category as those people who look at a Rasta and automatically assume he's smokes or something in that same vein?

I guess I can understand why people would categorize me with them, it's of course their choice.....Do I think I jump to unfounded conclusions by a PHOTO? Hell yes!!
I don't know the couple apart from what is said on the net, have no facts, so any conclusion I arrive at is inherently flawed.
However, if someone asked me my opinion, I would volunteer it, ensuring they realize I have no sound basis for it.
If they didn't ask, I wouldn't volunteer my opinion though.....

Does anyone know what countries a Jamaican citizen can travel to without a travel visa? I think Cayman is one, but are there others?

Without a visa, Jamaican nationals can actually travel to many countries. Places where a Jamaican national may visit for an unlimited time without a visa would be: Antiga, Barbuda, Bahamas, Bangladesh, Belize, Botswana, Cyprus, Dominca, Fiji, Gambia, Great Britain, Grendada, Haiti, Honduras, Ireland, Kenya, Kiribati, Lesotho, Malawi, Malaysia, Malta, Mauritius, Peru, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Surinam, Swaziland, Tanzania, Trinidad & Tobago, Tuvalu, Uganda, Vanuatu, Yemen, Zambia, Zimbabwe.

Jamaicans may travel without a visa but are limited to no more than a 6 month visit to: Barbados.

Jamaicans may travel without a visa but are limited to no more than a 3 month visit to: Bermuda, Chile, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Israel, Liechtenstein, Norway, San Marino, South Korea, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey.

Jamaicans may travel without a visa but are limited to no more than a 1 month visit to: Argentina, Columbia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Hong Kong, Monaco, Papua New Guinea, Uruguay.

Jamaicans may travel without a visa but are limited to no more than a 2 week visit to: Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao, St. Maarten.

That is NOT correct....

QUOTE (Mrs. Palmer @ May 15 2008, 08:32 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
You know, I've heard this before...actually I heard the term "rent a dread", instead of a rasta... I didn't click on the link, but does the link explain the difference between a real rasta, and just a jamaican man? And while I know this goes on all over, why is this practice primarily associated with Negril? I have seen/read more than one article that describes this practice, and each one mentioned Negril SPECIFICALLY...do they have "rent a dread" booths or something? blink.gif At any rate, to some extent these women who do this are right...Folks in American society are preoccupied with aesthetics, and if you don't fit the mold or "standard of what is beautiful" then it's more difficult for you...not impossible, but can be more difficult. There's typically a lot more proving you have to do, and some folks, (not all), but some have to try so much harder to be accepted and liked. Whether we agree with that or not, it's the truth and we all know it...just go into your local elementary school and ask a 3rd grader...Jamaica can be like a fantasy for some, but I also wish that these women who do this would take the time to really look at what a lot of these men are dealing with, where they come from, and who they are. They are after all real people with a real story to tell. If these women actually listened, do you think they would stick around and keep coming back?? Not sure. But I do know that exploitation is wrong on ALL sides, and that one day I look foward to when women don't have to travel halfway across the world to be appreciated for the beauty that they possess outside and in by some random-azz dude because those closest to them are unwilling/unable to see it.

A TRUE Rasta is perhaps akin to an Orthodox Jew or a devout Muslim.
There are certain religious principles that he would live by, certain things that he would and would not do.
I think Negril is hugely commercialized, there are more tourists going to Negril as opposed to other parts of Jamaica. It's a simple case of supply and demand.
In some cases, I think the women are fully aware that the men are selling themselves, nothing wrong with a BUSINESS deal if that's what BOTH parties signed up for...The problem in my eyes occurs when the woman thinks the man is REALLY interested in her, not just the green card and the material comforts she is providing.....

QUOTE
Three flights are due into Montego Bay, one from Toronto, one from Fort Lauderdale, the other from London. Every year over 80,000 middle-aged women flock to Jamaica in search of the "big bamboo." They are not necessarily into long-term relationships, but many return regularly to their island boy who sport Rastafarian-style dreadlocks, bringing money and gifts like jewelry and designer sneakers, a practice called “rent a rasta.” But who are the real Rastafari and how do they feel about being used to market everything Jamaican? A controversial glimpse into a paradise laced with cultural misunderstandings and socioeconomic inequities. *********

An excerpt of the narrative from the documentary contains an interview with Karen, an English- woman from Devon. In it, she reveals her reason for visiting Jamaica without any qualms. “I’m not naïve, I’ve been around the block. I come for sex, of course the sun, but mostly the sex.” A forty-five-year-old Caucasian woman from Chicago voiced the view that American women come to Negril because they are able to get what they cannot get at home. “A girl who no one looks at twice gets hit on all the time here, all these guys are paying her attention, telling her she’s really beautiful, and they really want her. In Chicago this could never happen. Here it is like a secret, a fantasy…and then you go home.” In addition to an exploration of Jamaica’s sex tourism, the documentary also delves into the world of Rastafari. “It epitomises Caribbean sex tourism with a twist in that it humanises Jamaicans who “fill milk bottles” (local slang for white women) and at the same time opens a path of understanding to contemporary Rasta culture, rather unknown to western audiences.”

*********

Rastafari have been greatly underestimated by the outside world. The classical Rastas were sophisticated theological and philosophical thinkers, not cultists worshiping newspaper photos of an African King. They discovered many sophisticated theological concepts for themselves and had retraced many of the Christological and other debates of the early Church. They brought forth a rich cultural and artistic legacy, including some of the twentieth century's most moving hymnography.

In July 1995, Montserrat's Soufriere Hills volcano, dormant throughout recorded history, rumbled to life and began an eruption which eventually buried the island's capital, Plymouth, in more than 40 feet (12 m) (12 m) of mud, destroyed its airport and docking facilities, and rendered the southern half of the island uninhabitable. This forced more than half of the population to flee the island because they lacked housing. After a period of regular eruptive events during the late 1990s including one on June 25, 1997 in which 19 people lost their lives, the volcano's activity in recent years has been confined mostly to infrequent ventings of ash into the uninhabited areas in the south. However, this ash venting does occasionally extend into the populated areas of the northern and western parts of the island. As an example, on May 20, 2006, the lava dome that had been slowly building collapsed, resulting in an ashfall of about an inch (2.5 cm) in Old Towne and parts of Olveston. There were no injuries or significant property damage.
Long referred to as "The Emerald Isle of the Caribbean" for both its Irish heritage and its resemblance to coastal Ireland, Montserrat today remains lush and green. A new airport, opened officially by the Princess Royal Princess Anne in February 2005, received its first commercial flights on July 11, 2005, and docking facilities are in place at Little Bay where a new capital is being constructed out of reach of any further volcanic activity.

The people of Montserrat were granted full residency rights in the United Kingdom in 1998, and citizenship was granted in 2002.

I've never even heard of that place.

Absolutely gorgeous island...They have an accent similar to Jamaicans....They have an active volcano which was threatening to erupt some years ago, the British Government granted citizenship to any Monserratians that wanted it....They are so fiercely proud that the majority refuse to leave....Two of my co-workers have roots there....Lovely people

No one ever said crimes and murders don't happen everywhere. In my neighborhood, 3 different crimes involving guns happened just last week. However, to dismiss the crime of Jamaica with the wave of a hand is a cop out. Per capita, it is the murder capital of the world. Something still needs to be done about that.

And, I was not dishonoring Jamaica in my tirade. I was going off on Jamicans I personally know who are driving me crazy. I have every right to do this because this is happening to me. It Has nothing to do with dishonoring Jamaica as a whole.

That is NOT true.

Nice try...but I tried that. I just hope you don't get this woman. Well, dem might no badda u...mek u husband do all the talking. English mek sure you fill out the form (even for the baby) the one they give you on the plane. Sometimes they say fill out one form for one family then when you get to Mobay they tell you something else. Better to have it done. If they say you only need one, then you can tear up the other one. If you need to fill out one they won't let you get in the immigration line...they have you stand off to the side and fill it out. That's what happened to me when I traveled with my son. He was only 3 months old. I traveled with him again at 6 months and they said one card was enough. They keep changing things. Not sure if you been to Mobay since dem change eeh.

mi did a plan fi mek mi madda in law duh all di tawking, she can say it's her FIRST trip to Jamaica laughing.gif

since me, my older son and the baby all have different names (travelling in my maiden name) mi will defnitely fill een 4 different forms lol.....
