Girl, they are a TOO damn strict with that. I had to cuss them out in June last year. A friend of mine was getting married and Sandals, so a lot of the guest stayed at Jamaica Grande (most of the guest were Jamaica). I had to tell off the security guard, because we walked into the town and they must of changed shift. He's going to quesition my cousins and I about how long we've been on the property. Now, we all had our wristband on. I asked him if he was damn blind and when he stood in front of us I lost it. I said, you would not treat anyone else like that so step the *&%^ off. He wanted to know when whe checked in and that he had not seen us on the property. Main reason I hate staying at resorts, I think they treat the JAMAICANS differently. At the Riu, I purchased day passes for my cousins and the guard wanted them to stay at the gate then walk up. Now, the walk from the gate to the front desk is a long A$$ walk. I said abosolutely NOT! I told them to call the front desk. Why the hell would I try to sneak people into the property, which was what the guard implied. I was so damn upset. When he checked his log, he had my cousin's names there.

I love Jamaica Grande, because everything is right there. Ochi can be a little crazy at times and I'm sure ya'll already know. Hold on to your HANDBAGS...all they have to see is the WRISTBAND and you're an instant target.

I have several ways of dealing with the wristband thing.
I either hide it under my watch or have them put it on LOOSE so I can slide it off at will....
I stayed at the Holiday Inn, and they were HORRIBLE about it, but what they did do for me was exchange the ones I cut off for new ones each time and they were cool about it.
The Jamaica Grande wouldn't though, I ended up hiding it under a big gold bangle.....

I have stayed at both Negril Rius, the Holiday Inn, Swept Away and the Jamaica Grande and I would have to say I prefer the Grande.
It's walking distance to everywhere I need to go and the food is GOOD!
HATED the good at the Holiday Inn.
Riu food was good, but they didn't have much Jamaican food.
The Jamaica Grande is very local friendly I found, they have HUGE numbers of Jamaicans staying there.
They could be a bit snobby at the Riu.

My Meez is at the airport a little early, don't you think??? laughing.gif

Ok, mi have one topic....

Why do you think it is that there are large concentrations of one or the other gender marrying certain nationalities???

Ie, with American/Jamaican marriages, the WOMAN is most often AMERICAN same for MENA and African marriages, in Russian/American marriages, the MAN is most often American and the same for Filipino/American relationships.....

QUOTE (clairern @ Mar 11 2008, 06:52 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
offtopic45vn.gif Well here is my contribution for discussion for the day. Alittle background before. I was married to a Ja man who filed a fiance visa for me waaay back in the 80's. We were married for 13 years and had two children with him. Then he punched in in the face and I left him. He is a CPA with a good job with the NYC hospitals system and very intelligent. He is so into politics and he ran for NYC councilman last year but lost. He thinks he is all that. LOL While we were married, I used to work as the assistant to the president of a woman's org. I always wanted to be a nurse so I went to nursing school and worked part-time. We had previous discussion about me not working , because I was required to be in school fultime to complete my clinicals. He was not as supportive as he promised to be. I kinda figured him out and that's why I decided to struggle and have a job while going to nursing school fulltime. I was very successful in completing school and getting my nursing license. I started as a psychiatric nurse and whenever I wanted to work overtime to make some extra money, it became an issue of my acting like I was a single woman and a lot of other complaints. The marriage deteriorated from there.

When I left him, he vowed to destroy me saying "I made you and I will break you." We had a terrible divorce which I sheltered my kids from. I got full exclusive custody of my children and signed over our house to him (that's what he wanted). After that I was able to buy my first home and had a very successsful job. My relationships with men have not been the same, couldn't trust them. I found that I always levitated to non-professional men. The last relationship I was in was with a barber. He tole me one day, I heard you are seeing a barber. Why don't you find a man who is a professional like you and meets up to your standards?" My reply was "He is a professional barber and what does his career have to do with our relationship? As long as he treats me with respect and love me the way I deserve to be loved, Why does it matter what he does for a living? The convo ended right there.

Last week he called me again, not to talk about my kids but to inquire about my personal life. I used to always shut him down, but decided to go along with the conversation. I told him that I was not in a relationship at the moment and he went ahead to say why can't I find a professional partner who meets my standards? You are a smart intelligent and beautiful woman and you should not settle for less.

Saying all that to get to my question. I hope you all are not saying "get to the question already"

How do you all feel about that statement? Do you guys think that you should try to get with a man that meets you on that professional or educational level? Or is it more important to be with a man who loves you and treats you with respect? My thoughts on this are that as long as you are both compatable and you both love and respect each other, what he does for a living should not matter. Love has no boundaries. If you go out there looking for only that "professional" are you sure he will treat you the way you deserve to be treated. I feel that some of these professoinals are so into themselves and their profession that they might not give you what you deserve.

Opinions?

I refuse to settle.
Why should I be forced to choose between someone who is equal on both a professional AND who loves me and treats me as he should?

Been there, done that and worn the hat.....been with men I was embarrassed at the thought of taking to my office party, who I didn't want to tell my friends about because I knew they'd say he wasn't good enough. Decided I was going to list everything that I would like my partner to be and REFUSED to compromise along the way.....almost gave in right before I met my husband, but luckily didn't.....
My partner is the man I am going to spend the rest of my life with, why should I accept anyone who loves me BUT, or who is smart BUT, or is a lovely person BUT.....

If you DON'T care whether a man is a professional, then fine...But if you would PREFER, why compromise?
I believe Mr Right is out there for EVERY last one of us, however MANY of us married Mr Almost Right, or Mr Could Be Right Just Not For Me.....
This was my personal epiphany, and it took long enough coming!

I have done my first reggae show selling crafts and it was really successful...but the festival season in kicking into gear in the next few months. On the man front...well, I am very very very happily in a relationship with a jamaican man here in the states. Oh, but my journey may not be over as far as this board goes because he has some immigration issues of his own!! BUT, That is not something I am worring about///at least not now. If any of you plan on being on the west coast for reggae festivals...let me know because I may be a vendor and you'll have to come by. I know for sure we will be at Sierra Nevada and a few Hemp Festivals in Washington state.

Sorry to be so wordy but I feel like it has been so long since checking in....anyone want to give me a rundown of whats been happening??? What happened with the stella story???? I never did get to the wedding......

Thanks Jengles...she lives there in this assisted living/retirement home fulltime all the time. She has like a little studio apartment and all her meals and everything are included. It really is a nice place I just think the care is lacking. She never really leaves there...she just doesn't have the energy. We have taken her out to dinner and stuff like that but she doesn't really like to leave so she just stays there. That is very true about the desensatization...never really thought of that.

Thanks Shauna luv.gif The lack of disrespect is just astounding to me sometimes. Sorry your grandma had to go through that.

Ok I am headed off to lunch but had a topic I wanted to throw out there...

Would you still file AOS or removing conditions for your spouse if things in the marriage didn't work out between the two of you? Take out all the factors of them just coming for a green card and all that. It was a genuine bona fide marriage but it just didn't work between the two of you. Would you file to let them stay here?

What factors would or wouldn't cause you to file for them?

(Please don't read more into this than there is in regard to my personal situation...I am genuinely just curious and wonder what others would do in the situation.)

It all depends why we broke up.
If he was a cheater, liar or dishonest hell no....In fact, I guess if I disliked him, I wouldn't file.
If he was a genuinely good person, and had always treated me well, I'd help him all I could.

I'm still trying to figure out what his parents and family is up to. We shall see. I'm just homesick in the worse way. Now my ALLEGRIES are starting to kick in. I hope I make it through this year. Last year I wanted to rip out my eyes.

Good morning,

everyone, it doesn't look like it's raining yet up here.

Gill is probably going to see Movado tomorrow at a fraction of the price she would have paid here!!

Nanny don't get me started on the pedophile and rape thing. i think all pedophiles should be charged with muder, for murdering a child's innocence...and I don't see a dyamn thing wrong with chemical castration.

It hurt my brother so bad, becuase my brother has a daughter. It took about a dozen Montgomery County police to get him out the building. My brother kept saying I told you so. He even testified at the trial as well as some other residents. My brother had been complaing for years and nothing was done. It just makes me sick to my stomach. And his wife testisfied in court that he should be given another chance. Who the hell gives the rights to ANYONE to have a child (as young as 2) rubbing lotion on your NAKED body and then on his P**IS. Like I said, one of ya'll will have to come and bail me out of 7-locks in Maryland

someone told your brother what was going on?? i'm assuming the parents trusted him, that's why the kids were there??

No, he was always wondering why so many kids was in this guys apartment. And my brother didn't like how he looked. His spirit didn't take him and rightfully so. I've seen this man a few times also and he looks sick.

and what kind of second chance did his wife want him to get!!!!!!!!

Girl, I don't know. My brother said during the sentencing (sometimes they let the family member say something) and she was begging saying he was depressed and didn't know what he was doing. Whatever the (#$*. Forget the sentencing...hang im rass

The man is SICK, but the woman is almost as BAD....how can she support a paedophile of a husband????
Some women must feel their husband is the LAST man on earth, or that their marriage vows mean that they forgive him for ANYTHING!!

Mek mi eva fine MY husband even LOOK pan a girl much less an UNDERAGE one and unu a guh be bringing mi sunday dinner in DEATH ROW...

You see it....It's been said that this thread is supposed to be a place where we give each other support. If you don't have anything positve to say why say it all...and why give an opinion based on nothing.....

That's just it, I DIDN"T say anything apart from those who ASKED....and as for positive, I did say to some who asked that I felt their relationship was sound....You are ASSUMING that I only had NEGATIVE things to say....As for giving an opinion based on nothing, it's my choice to provide it when ASKED wink.gif

As for support, I believe that confirming someone's suspicions when asked is support, to reply 'stick with him everything's going to be ok' when in fact you believe the OPPOSITE is not support. It's hypocrisy.
I don't jump on people for their choices even if I think they are the wrong ones, I will offer prayers and best wishes.
I will ask a question which I think may lead someone to the conclusion I have reached, but if they refuse to see what's in front of them, I wouldn't push the issue.
If the issue is RIGHT in front of their eyes, I leave it alone, after all everyone here is GROWN.....
