PhilippinesWife's family's house in Taytay destroyed in storm
Hi!

I'm sorry to hear this sad news.

This sad thing happens from time to time in the Philippines. I used to come to Taytay, Rizal back in college as my sister lives there. Its pretty ironic too that its so hot here in Colorado right now while Manila and its neighboring towns is being battered by typhoon and flood.

Unfortunately, I don't know any humanitarian visa for your wife's family but my prayers are with them.

PhilippinesLooking for Tourist Visa info

Hi Phil,

The link that Bob 4 Ana provided is right on the dot. It was the one I used when I got my B2 visa, just follow everything there, you can even schedule the date of your mom-in-law's interview online thru visapoint, will cost you $10.

You can also ask her to prepare for the questions below (if she is not confident in her English, she can ask for an interpreter).

1. What is the purpose of your trip?
2. When and where will you stay in US?
3. Are you employed?
4. Who will pay for your visit?
5. How can we (the embassy) be assured that you will be coming back to the Phils?

Goodluck!

PhilippinesUS Tourist Visa
Hi!

I had a successful B2 visa interview last year. Didn't hire any "Migration Expert" or anything. Just follow the link that Dakine provided as it is the one I used.

Luckily, the CO assigned to me didn't give me a hard time as interview was a breeze. He just asked where I worked, what I do. I was trying to show the title of my property but he said no need as I am already approved, didn't even asked for my bank statements (even though I was ready to show it to him).

Your friend will save money if she will just do it herself not hire a third party.

Goodluck!

PhilippinesTourist Visa While Waiting to Apply for K1 Visa

Do you know how long the process is to obtain a tourist visa? -Depends on how fast can May gather documents needed for the interview.

Please visit http://manila.usemba...v/wwwh3024.html, everything is there...from required documents to scheduling interview.

Has anyone here been in a similar situation or has anyone been successful in getting their lady to visit the U.S. with a different visa before applying via a K1 Visa? - I visited my fiance in Colorado using a B2 (tourist visa) before we applied for K1 visa. I didn't encounter any problem getting the tourist visa. I'm now here in CO and the visit made it easier for me to adjust well in my new surroundings.

Goodluck!

Goodluck!

Pls tell May to be confident in the interview and don't forget to smile. biggrin.gif

Once she is done with her fingerprinting, she will be lead to the right side of the building (K1 visa interviewees are the the left), there she will have to wait for her number to be flashed on the board (more like K1 visa too). I had to wait an hour and a half for this.

Anyway, she will know right away if she passed the interview as the Consul will keep her passport and she will pay the courier. Hope she does!!

Hi 16freekisses,

You do make a striking couple. Goodluck on your journey in life together.

Like you, I planned on applying for a B2 visa before we applied for a K1 visa. I thought it would be hard for me to migrate to another country without seeing it or experiencing it. We, too, planned for a winter visit for me as that would be my first time to experience winter plus a chance for me to meet my would be in-laws.

Luckily for me, I was granted a B2 visa even though there are alot of people being denied on the day of my interview. If you do decide to apply for a B2 visa, be confident during the interview. More importantly, be sure that you do have a compelling reason to come back to the Phils.

Goodluck!

PhilippinesNEED Advice 2
Paul,

You’ve been given good advice here especially from Teapotgurl and Tahoma.

Like Teapotgurl, I think the best thing for her to do right now(since you are still in the gathering stage) is to get online more and to research on her own about the visa process and the requirements for Passport and NBI Clearance application.

Once she gathered the requirements for Passport and NBI Clearance, as Tahoma suggested, she can then apply for her Passport and NBI in Iloilo.

Her mother or her aunt can accompany her to Iloilo since they would still be in Western Visayas (they don’t have to ride a plane) and if they get lost or get confused, they can ask around since the people there speaks the same dialect as theirs.

From their place all they need to do is get to the wharf, take a 15-20 min boat ride to
Iloilo, once in Iloilo get a taxi to take them to Department of Foreign Affairs and NBI.

This can be a good exercise for her to go to a city not as big as confusing as Manila but
can get her to gain experience in transacting and processing her papers on her own
towards the completion of her visa journey.

Btw, when you visited her in Guimaras, did you liked the place? I’ve only been to Guimaras twice and I liked the simple way of living there. I’ve always thought that it’s a driver’s haven as the next jeep/trike/car that you will see in the street is 5-10 mins
away from you. Definitely no Manila traffic ?

Goodluck!

Philippinesk1 visa approved, wedding in 7 weeks, should my parents bother to get a tourist visa to attend our wedding?

The crucial part is knowing what is the nearest available interview date for B2 visas. I did mine in 5-6 weeks (but that was back in 2008) and it depends on the number of people applying for that specific month.

I logged in to check the available interview date 1st week of October, found the nearest available date Nov 3 (gathered documents and had the interview) by Nov 5 visa was in my hand. Of course, I still have to book my flight but it wasn't an urgent one as I was just going to visit my then fiance now husband.

So until you know what is the available interview date, only then can you decide if 7 weeks is doable or not. As a word of caution and as other people here have posted, visa approval is on a case to case basis.

Good luck!

PhilippinesTourist visa to visit the US Vs. Unicorn sighting

Hi!

I?m one of the lucky ones who got a 10-year multiple entry visa. This happened in 2008 so I?m not sure if this post is still relevant if you are asking for recent B2 approvals in the Philippines. As always stated, it is a case to case basis.

  1. I was a single Filipina at that time.
  2. I haven?t traveled anywhere outside of the Philippines at that time.
  3. It was my first time to apply for a visa.
  4. I am not well connected, I came from a simple family. I am not connected to any government official, nor did I paid anyone. (I know the modus operandi of these people, why should I pay if I can do it on my own?) I just read the manila US embassy guide, did not even used a travel agency.
  5. I was employed in a multinational company at that time.
  6. I was very honest, I?m a bad liar. I told the CO I?m going to visit my bf.

Like your wife, the interview was over in less than 3 minutes. I remember trying to show the CO the title to my condo unit (to show that I did have strong ties) but he dismissed it and said ?No need, you are already approved.?. He didn?t even asked for my bank account statements. I was waiting for more questions but he ended the interview quickly.

I did remembered that about 90% of the applicants were denied at that time. It was easy to spot them as their heads are bowed, they look sad and they have their passports with them.

Again, this happened in 2008 and it is always a case to case basis. You will never know until you try.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresGirlfriend has a multiple entry visa - can she visit and marry me instead of doing a k1?
Hi!

Please be reminded that entering US thru multiple entry visa is only good for 6 months. Even if you marry your gf there, she needs to come back here in the Philippines within 6 months of entering US otherwise she would be deported.

I am also a holder of a multiple entry visa and had visited my bf there before we got engaged. We filed for K1 visa right after I got back here. Normal K1 visa processing takes about 6-8 months but we were approved within only 2 months of filing.

It is advisable for you to see each other first (evidence of meeting each other is needed in K1/K3 interview), who knows instead of 6 months of waiting, if they see that your relationship is genuine they might fast tracked it to 2 months like ours smile.gif

Goodluck!

Go to this site : http://manila.usemba...v/wwwh3224.html

Download Forms and K1 Interview preparation.

If your fiancee hasnt received the letter from USEM yet and she is going to have her medical exam, they said that NOA2 hardcopy is acceptable. Maybe you can scan it and send it to her so she can present it at SLEC. Just make sure that your NOA2 has the MNL case number.

Pizzadude is right, just download the forms from the Manila Embassy site. The packet that your fiancee will receive is just a 1 page letter anyway stating the MNL case no and a link to the manila embassy site.

Yes she can just walk in anytime at St. Luke's Extension Clinic in Manila (exact address is posted at the Manila Embassy site).

I think its good that you already have an appointment set for August. Otherwise, you or your fiancee will still need to pay for PLDT telephone fee in getting appointment in caling the call center.

Hi!

I certainly do agree with what our fellow VJers have posted here.

It would be best to have him apply for a B2 Tourist visa first before you take the next step and go for the K1 visa.

Having him visit your place would give him first hand experience on how it is there. I visited my fiance before he petitioned me and it was really an eye opener for me going there, gave me a forcast on how my life would be in the US.

I think it was also good since I was able to take pictures with his parents and we presented it in our visa application, it helped alot as we were approved within 2 months of application (one of the fastest!)

Goodluck on your journey!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresApplying for a touist Visa..while on k1 process?
Hi!

In my experience, getting a B2 visa in the Philippines was very easy, although, I did applied for it BEFORE we applied for a K1 visa.

I did wondered why the consul at the US embassy as well as the officer at the Port of Entry in Detroit kept asking me this, “Ma’am, are you engaged?” Maybe they were trying to see if I have a K1 visa filed. They do know I am visiting my bf (now fiancé, we got engaged after my visit) in US.

I think it would be best to just wait for the approval of your K1 visa but if you are willing to part with your $131, be prepared to be asked: What is the purpose of your visit? Are you engaged? How can the embassy be assured that you will be coming back to the Phils.?

Good luck!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK1 or K3?
Hi Ms. Dawn,

Its a case to case basis but from my experience, K1 was pretty easy, got approved less than 2 months (one of the fastest here).

Although I did see some similarities in our case, both of us are B2 holder, visited our bfs before filing for K1 (or K3 in your case). I even spent Christmas with his folks and bonded with them. So when it was time for us to file for K1, we sent pics showing me with his parents and him with my parents (when he visited me in the Phils). I guess USCIS got impressed as we didn't get RFE and got approved fast.

I could have moved to the US 3 months after filing but I delayed my interview at the Embassy and opted to spend more time with my parents in the Phils.

Whatever you decide, just make sure you and your fiance sign all forms correctly and send them pics of you and him with both sides of the family.

Goodluck!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedurestourist visa and k1...need an advice pls...
Hi PA!

In my case, having a B2 visa and having visited my fiance here in CO speed up our K1 visa. We got approved a month and a few days after filing (one of the fastest).

I was in fact honest with the Consul when he asked, what was my purpose in coming here and I said to visit my fiance and spend Christmas with his family, which was really true. Once here we took pictures of me with his family and I guess that convinced USCIS that our relationship was genuine.

Having visited him here also made it easier for me to adjust as I am so familiar with my surroundings.

Just pray that you get assigned a "mabait" na Consul.

Questions would be:

1. What is the purpose of your visit?
2. Where will you stay?
3. Are you employed?
4. Who will pay for your visit?
5. How can they (embassy) be assured that you will be back in the Philippines.

My interview took less than 3 mins and I got approved.

Goodluck!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedureswhat are the chances?????
Hi!

I had a successful B2 visa interview but let me STRESS that i had the interview BEFORE we filed for the K1 visa.

Questions are:
1. What's the purpose of your visit to the US?
2. Are you employed?
3. Who will you visit in US?
4. How long will you be staying there?
5. Where are you staying in the Phils? Apt, Townhouse etc?
6. Are you engaged?

At that time I was also employed in a multi-national company and had a property in Metro Manila. When I visited my then bf (now husband) I was again asked by the Customs officer at my POE if I was engaged. I said no --the purpose of that visit was really to try and see if I would like it here in US. I thought it was weird that they kept asking me if I was engaged but maybe they were trying to see if I have a pending petition or if I am trying to migrate in the US thru my B2 visa.

Goodluck!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPossibility of more than 1 K1 for the same Fiance?
Hi,

Like you, my then bf now husband and I wanted for me to check out US first before deciding to migrate here. It would really be hard to move to another country without really knowing how it is living there.

Luckily, I was granted a 10 year multiple entry B2 tourist visa as I was able to show STRONG TIES to the Philippines (stable job in a multi national company, a property, etc.). Like your gf also, I have a sister in the US and when the consul asked about it I just said that I was not going to visit her but will be staying with my bf.

2 months after visiting my bf, we filed for a K1 visa.

Like what others have said here, filing for a K1 visa means there is intent to migrate already but if you are just looking to get a visa for a visit, it would be the B2 tourist visa.

Goodluck!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNewbie on K1
I agree with Darnell.

There is no harm in trying to apply for a Tourist Visa although approval is on a case to case basis especially in the Philippines.

I don't want to move to another country without knowing how it is there so I applied for a Tourist Visa, got approved and I visited my then fiancé (now husband) in the US.

A month and half after I came back from my visit we applied for a K1 visa. I took lots of pictures in the US especially with my fiancé's parents (now my in-laws) and these became good solid evidence when it came to the interview part of the K1 process. It was also a good experience facing the consul when applying for the Tourist Visa as when it was time for me to face the consul for the K1 visa (although different consuls) I was I familiar with the process, didn't broke a sweat and the interview went with a breeze.

I think applying for a B2 visa (tourist) first before applying for a K1 is the better way than applying for a K1 visa then applying for a tourist visa (as most people would get inpatient with the K1 process).

If and when you decide to apply for a Tourist Visa, just be sure that you can prove that you have STRONG ties to the Philippines.

Goodluck!
