Middle East and North AfricaNBI Clearance
You should be fine. It's even stated here: http://photos.state.... Packet_001.pdf

NBI CLEARANCE. Applicants aged 16 years and older must have a valid Record Clearance for Travel Abroad Purposes from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI). Clearances should be in the applicant’s current name, birth certificate name, maiden name and any aliases or nicknames used, including different spellings you have used of those names. For immigration purposes, an NBI clearance is valid for one (1) year from the date it was issued. The NBI web site is http://www.nbi.gov.ph/.

I got my NBI clearance for travel to the US, September 2010 then used it for my interview, April 2011. :star:

Hi this is a good thread. Just wanted to know if I will be scheduled for an interview a month after is there any chance we can reschedule to the earliest interview date as long as the ceac status changed to "READY"? Or we should follow the schedule they will provide for us? Thanks in advance for any replies. And yes, congrats to you all who got approved. I'm so excited for you all. God bless!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresSignature on green card
Hi all - silly question probably...

I was wondering what form the signature on your green card comes from? I was just filling out the DS-230 ready to send to my wife and took a second look at my signature thinking "i probably could have done a better job of this".

Is it at a later stage that the signature gets extracted for use on the green card, like at the POE?

Thanks for your help

No case # for us yet either. NOA2 was 2/13/2013 and the NVC received our file on 2/25/2013.

I'm probably going to give it at least until Monday to try again. Hope to hear some good news next week.

how did you find out that the NVC received your case? did you just call and ask?

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresNVC (post-NOA2)

Hey Ash/Tiffany, certainly I dont pressume to speak for anyone but myself and my partner when I offer insight or my tidbits of information, but from 'my personal experience' I was on top of it from the get go, meaning I called the NVC until I got the info I was after, I found it more frustrating to sit back and wait/wonder, than I did to call the NVC and be told "nothing to report yet" so I say call as often as the urge strikes. In retrospect, it may not have sped (sp?) anything up, but our processing time seemed shockingly quick, even as we went through the process it seemed fast.

Further, have you been doing it all on your own, or calling the Embassy in Auckland for advice? They have some absolutely overwhelmingly helpful staff who will keep you going through this process by answering any and all questions as they arrise, they were only 2nd to the lovely crowd here at Visa Journey.

Best of luck guys, speedy journey to you.

Hey,

Thanks for your reply :)

Yeah we've been going it alone. I wouldn't deal with NZ consulates because I live in Australia. I have sent the Sydney consulate a few emails and they've helped me out. We're proactive and on top of it as well. We got our NOA2 in 61 days and we didn't really load up on evidence. The paperwork and steps are pretty simple but are very time consuming. Two days ago I went and got my fingerprints taken and applied for the police certificate as it will take a few weeks. My wife will be in Australia next week so she's going to bring our marriage certificate and if we get our case number in time, send off the AOS package after we're billed (and it's paid). I work for a US-based engineering and construction company who are willing to help me get a job sorted in the US so that's taken care of. The thing that's stressing me the most is finding a house to live in and a car to drive to work in haha!

I'll wait til I get my case number before I have my medical. I was going to wait at least until my wife arrives next week before I call. What reason would USCIS have for touching my case again two days after I received my NOA2?

Thanks everyone for your replies, it's very helpful :)

Hey all

How long would one usually expect to wait before they should call the NVC to find out their case number and Invoice Identification Number?

I've heard conflicting stories. I was estimating a week - reason being that my case was touched again two days after the NOA2 was received. Could it be that it's already been sent?

Hopefully this isn't too stupid a question; I'm just really anxious to get through the NVC in as short a time as possible :)

Thanks!

Holy moly! :wow: I just called the NVC and got a person within 15 minutes, was the nicest guy ever. I explained that I received a checklist for the DS-230 and that USPS had notified me of its delivery to them this afternoon. He said that he admired the way I was handling the case and that so far everything had been perfect. He also said that the AOS packet was perfect! Makes me feel more comfortable knowing its accepted.

Y'all,

I just received an email from NVC containing a checklist and cover sheet. It asks for the immigrant visa application part 1. Is this the IV packet containing DS-230 part 1 signed and supporting documents? If so, I received an email from USPS today also notifying that said IV packet was received by the NVC this afternoon. Find the request below. Is it false or pre-empted?

Thanks :D

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresIR1 Visa Medical & Blood Pressure

"White coat syndrome". Wow, do I ever get that. I'm on BP meds but even without them my BP is borderline. When I go to the doctor they take it twice, once at the beginning of the appointment so they can say "Wow" and once at the end so they can say "Oh".

yeah i get it a lot. i let it get the best of me today. i'm even nervous about needles. i'm such a big sook lol.

but yeah, my doctor didnt seem too worried about my level today. i had a little notepad full of my readings for the last few months and they are all very much normal so even if he was, i could've shown him that to verify it's only in a clinical situation.
Ash & TiffanyMaleAustralia2013-04-17 05:43:00
IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresIR1 Visa Medical & Blood Pressure

Hi all,

I will shortly be attending a medical for the IR1 visa in London.

I am overweight, and definatly could do with losing 5 stone which I am in the process of losing. I do, however, have a way to go.

I have been monitoring my Blood Pressure, which as I have lost the weight has reduced to rouinely being between 130-140/90. I know this is a little high, however since I am exercising I am unwilling to see my GP, lest he try to put me on to medication which will then be for the rest of my life. I want to tackle this problem myself, at least until I move to the US (where I am able to go onto my wifes healthcare).

Has anyone here had experiance of failing the medical on Hypertension grounds, and can anyone advise what would be considered abnormal enough to fail? I have tried to look for civil surgeon guidance, but have been unsuccessful.

Thank in advance :)

hey. i was passed on my medical today but i thought i would chime in with my experience.

i am the same re blood pressure. for about 8 months i was on beta blockers for "hypertension". i had doppler ultrasounds, blood tests, all that stuff. nothing unusual found. the beta blockers made me feel better but i only REALLY noticed it in a clinical situation because that's where my symptoms really showed.

i am 6'3'' and 255lb (116kg). i'm not really comfortable at doctors and dentists as my clinical hypertension symptoms show. i've been worried about this medical for days now and my BP has increased slightly. usually it's 120/80-130/90. the last few days it has been on the higher end of that scale. today i had my visa medical and i was nervous as hell thinking that he'd pick up on my BP and make me go back to my doctor. it was 140/70.

end result - he said in this circumstance it was perfectly normal. i read it when i got home... 120/90.

with that BP level, i dont think you'll have a problem but it does depend on the doctor i guess.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresReview - Visa Medical in Brisbane
so i just wanted to let people know of my experience today at anzac square medical centre.

to be clear, the form they email you says to bring australian-sized passport photos. do it.

i know in the whole process you've had to supply american photos but in this part, the state department provides them with forms that suit australian sized photographs.

DO NOT sign them before you get there, as they require you to do it in front of them. i took three american and three australian photos today in case i needed the other ones. i signed the american ones and they immediately  :ranting: breathed fireballs :ranting:  all over them (as mentioned in another review of this place by another member). i was so lucky that i took the australian ones because they are the ones they need and i didnt sign them til i got there.

they make you go pee in the sofitel restrooms. you gotta take three escalators up and walk to the far left right next to the check in counter. they give you a bag so it wont be obvious.

i had about a 15min wait and then i got to see dr taylor. he's really nice and answered all the questions i asked him. he first went through my vaccination checklist. i only had records of one vaccination, flu vac, which was recently. i gave a verbal declaration that i had chickenpox. everything except for Tdap and MMR were not age appropriate. so he gave me those two vaccines and then went ahead with the physical. probably took 15mins at the most. pretty run of the mill type one. checked height, weight, eyes, ears, throat, reflexes :bonk: . did a squat and touched my toes. he took a good look at my body including down there  (only quickly) and noticed a mole on my back but quickly determined it was harmless and just caught his attention. i got dressed again after that.

i went back to the front desk and paid the remainder of the account ($445+$100 deposit made a few days ago. also includes the two vaccines, the chest xray and the blood test).

the ladies at the front gave me maps and details on how to get to the next two places. first up was sullivan nicolaides (sp?) at manor apartments on queen street (post office square, near the BoQ building).

i rocked up to a waiting room and simply took a number and sat. girl came and got me and i sat in the big grey chair and rolled up my sleeve. she took my forms and passport and the other girl got her jabby things ready. the needle hurt a bit because its different to the ones i usually get at other joints so that sucked after having two injections previously in the day. it was done in about three minutes so i got my stuff together and headed towards citiscan. this place is on the corner of queen and albert above that chemist the same side of the street as HJs.

waited for about ten minutes and got called in. really neat looking place, looks new-ish. stood up against the machine and she took her happy snap and signed my forms and saw my passport and sent me on my way. that was the easiest part of the day done.

note: if you aren't taking public transport then parking is in one of two places. cathedral square or the oracle building on your right as you head down ann street towards central. i was hit with 40 bucks for about two and a half hours parking at oracle - never again will i park there :( . i intended on taking the train but my go card had expired and so i just figured "f**k it" and drove in.

overall, it was alright i guess. i was pretty stressed out by the hustle and bustle of the city but you get that.

this was a quick review, but nevertheless i hope fellow brisbane-dwelling peeps find it helpful.

cheers

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresCR1 Petitioner interview before NOA2?

seeing as how the petition was approved on the spot... could it have been a priority thing as the petitioner is active US military?

Ash & TiffanyMaleAustralia2013-05-01 13:14:00
IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresVWP and marrying

Ive been reading it is perfectly legal for a non USC to marry a USC on a VWP, while in USA, but the non USC must leave USA before the VWP expires, the petitioner fills out the I-130 and submits in USA. ( is this done during or after the non USC leaves the country, or can be done anytime)

Is this correct?

Secondly, if the intent of visiting USA on VWP was definitely getting married, what should be answered to the CBP at POE, when questioned about purpose of visit?

And lastly, at what stage does the non USC apply for a resident visa from his home country? What forms are filled out?

Thanks

i entered america on the VWP in october last year and i got married a few days later. there is no restriction against getting married to a US citizen on the VWP, you just cant get married and expect to stay there. i got married, come back to australia and my wife filed an i-130. everything has gone smoothly and i havent hit any speed bumps. USCIS and NVC stages were really quick and my interview is 18th june.

just tell them you're visiting your fiance(e) (if you're already engaged) which is the truth, and take documents with you that prove you have significant ties to australia (employment verification, rental lease etc). i did that and it was fine. he asked me a few questions but i didnt have to show any documents. they are "just in case".

i would wait til you leave before the i-130 is filed, just to be safe.

you'll be fine as long as you come back before your 90 days.

Hi all

I have a quick, stupid question.

We have sold our house and as such the address I provided on my ds-230 (where to send the green card) is changing. I would like to update it so that it gets sent to my mother-in-law's place. Would I do this at the POE or in the interview I have on the 18th of June?

Thanks, and sorry if this is covered elsewhere.

I see. I would guess that if the OP wanted information specific to only his/her visa, then that info would have been included in the title. As it appears, the responses here feel like teasing a room full of tigers. We have waited so long. I am seriously very concerned about our being penalized because of the delays--having to redo medical exams or whatever, for example. Costly penalties. This week marks 2 years that we made our very first steps in this process. If only we had known then...

one could have looked at his signature i guess... shows his entire journey right there, including his eligibility to receive a green card. just sayin

My wife also speaks English fairly well but for her interview we are going to ask it be in Vietnamese.  Working with her on the interview questions I found that although she knew the answer to the question she would give me the wrong answer because she misunderstood one word in the question.   For us it is more important to give the right answer than impressing them with her ability to speak English.   She and I communicate easily with each other and one of the reasons is  I am from Kentucky where speaking slow is common.  Good Luck...

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresShould I listen to Tier 2, or is there another way?

Yesterday I called to see what's going on. Tier 2 said that our zip code wasn't showing up for him on the screen. I told him that we had received the change of address notice and a notice that said we'd get the approval notice soon ( ), but just not the actual approval notice. Both of these documents showed the complete new address, with zip code. He said he would fix the zip code problem and file a request to have them send another approval notice. (I still don't understand the supposed zip code problem if the other two letters got to their destination with no problem AND HAD THE ADDRESS COMPLETE WITH ZIP CODE.) Sigh.

Write none...... by the way not having a zip code will not keep a letter from reaching its destination, it will only slow it down.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWife Returning to US with Canadian Husband

1. If you visit the US for 6 months at a time, you'd then have to prove you still have a full time job, a house, a lease, SOMETHING that would make you want to go back to Canada after that 6 months. If you do not have this, you will not be allowed to enter or they will give you an I-94 with a set expiration date lesser the 6 months.

2. You need to stay in Canada while doing the I-130 spousal visa. Your wife will have to prove domicile...house, job, etc.

3. IF you decide to come to the US for 6 months and then AOS you are committing visa fraud. This forum is a forum for people who apply for immigration the legal way so when you talk about possibly committing visa fraud, it gets a LOT of people on here REALLY angry because we've all paid thousands of dollars to get our loved ones into the US and that is like peeing down our necks and throwing us to the birds because we did it the legal way. (Just saying)

4. You are looking at a processing time of around 8-10 months. Worst case.

5. This is my personal opinion but it seems as if you are around the immigration stuff for a few years in Canada. Doesn't surprise me it took them over 3 years with no answer. I'm sure this will get removed but it is so frustrating when people continually want to game the system when everyone on this forum providing the help and knowledge are spending THOUSANDS of dollars to do this the RIGHT way to make sure there is NO way their loved ones will get deported etc.

*End Rant*

Stay in Canada. Keep your job. Keep your house/apartment. Visit on weekends. PROVE strong ties to Canada...via a job (letter from employer) house deed, mortgage, lease whatever you have for when you do come visit. Do not try to stay for 6 months at a time. Wait your turn like the rest of us. Don't risk being deported and permanently separated from your wife. That's so not fair to her. Not worth the risk.

Thank you for the actual advice you have given, even though most of it is actually wrong (which we know from PRACTICE, not study)

Per your unwanted opinion in point 5:

As I stated in my OP, everything we have done has been 100% legal. We've made sure of that. We HAVE spent thousands of dollars on the proper paperwork. We HAVE spent time visting/skyping and "waiting our turn" during the Canadian process. We are not trying to "game the system" or to cut in line in front of all you "honest" folk.

Our life circumstances have changed, and we want to continue that process in another country while maximizing the time spent with each other. Surely this was the place to ask. I came here looking for factual advice to aid in that and instead I get judgment from the exact group of people who should be sympathetic to our situation. It isn't my fault you had to wait to be with your loved one, just like it isn't your fault I have to wait to be with mine.

I understand more than most just how stressful this entire process can be. We've spent YEARS (not 8-10 months) trying to make this work, but I did not expect such childish outbursts from a simple request for advice. If trying to make someone who has done nothing wrong feel like a criminal eases the pain you went through during your process, then have at.

Thanks to those who offered real advice not based on conjecture.

MODS, please delete this thread as there is nothing further to be gained here.
