Africa: Sub-SaharanEmployment Verification Letter
For the interview a the consulate, It was 2 months because it had to be requested. Then it had to be sent to my now husband in enough time. I used the say income verification and transcripts for the AOS. By then it was 5 months old. Everything was approved without an AOS interview.

It would be helpful to post a timeline of what happened when. Different entries to US and marriage. Did she entered that last time in February and then you got married? Is she still in the US?

US Embassy and Consulate Discussionvaccination Influenzae type b (Hib)
The HIB vaccination is given to infants and children in the US. Rountinely not given to children older than 5 years old, because HIB disease is rare in people over 5 years old. Mostly likely will not harm you if you get it as an adult. However, it is not a requirement by USCIS because of your age. To be up to date for the AOS, you need have or have started the series for MMR, Td or Tdap and the varicella vaccine. If you want to look into it further you can check out this link: http://www.cdc.gov/i...nstructions.pdf
The tetanus vaccine is given every ten years. If you have had it within that the last ten years, you should be fine. If you have a choice between the Td and the Tdap, I would go with the Tdap. The rate of pertusis is increasing in some regions of the US.

Good Luck

US Citizenship General DiscussionName Changes.

I wanted to know how long I need to wait after I turn in my Marriage Liscense to be recorded, that I can go to the DMV and SSN office for my fiances name change to my last name?

Can I go the same day or immediately after?

Thank you all!

Dave

In most states, you may go to the Social Security office with a copy of your marriage license as soon as you get it. The social security office will change it in their system and send the info to the IRS. Then they will hand you a reciept noting your name change. You can take the reciept to the DMV the next day to change your name on your state ID or driving license. Your new social security card will come in the mail in 7-10 days.

A question for those that have gone through the interview process in Tokyo: I am going to Japan to be with my fiancee during the interview process. Does anyone know if I can go into the actual interview with her? The consulate info page on VJ seems to suggest that I can, but I wanted to see if anyone had actually done it.

Thanks!

Does anyone who has dealt with Japanese K1 and waivers have any suggestions on which US Consulate to go through? Actually, I'm not sure if you can pick, but my fiancee is living with her Aunt in Osaka now, so obviously the Osaka US Consulate is closest, but would it be better to go through Tokyo for the K1 and waiver (212 maybe 601) since they are probably bigger and deal with more complicated cases more often? I wonder if Tokyo is slower or maybe they are all the same. I am really just getting started with this part of the process, so any consulate-related info is welcome.

Thanks.

It was a 65 day overstay on a B1/B2 visa. I have lots of questions about that problem in other threads.

Mainly looking for a lawyer in the US who has experience with waivers on Japanese K1 cases.

I can't move to Japan because I have a 3 year old son here, so I'll have to go the K1/CR1 filing route once we figure out what is what.

Any other tips specific to Japan for this whole process would be greatly appreciated. There are lots of pages in the this thread, so I'll try to read through it.

I just found this thread and I wanted to say hello and let you know that I will be going through either a K1 or CR1 process with my fiancee. We recently had troubles with a B1 visa and she had an expedited removal back to Japan two weeks ago on a return trip from Osaka. We are trying to work through the disappointment and confusion of this whole process and it's still really confusing only two weeks in. Does anyone have any experience with I212 or I601 on their K1? Any suggestions for Japanese/English lawyers who deal with these types of cases a lot?

Thank you.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionPolice Clearance
This is just a little reminder to all I-129F filers.

PLEASE get you police clearance before you go to your interview at the embassy. It clearly states that if you been out of your home country for 6 (Six) straight months either as a tourist or worker you need to get the Police Clearance at ALL COUNTRIES you been to.

Just had a friends Finacee who some how over looked or forgot this rather important detail. I had my Fiancee check on this for her because she been to the same place overseas for a total of over 6 months but was told she didn't need it cause the time was no all in a row.

I can only stress how important it is to be over prepared with too much paperwork and not need it. Than to need something and have to wait and extra 2 months when you had plenty of time to get a document.

Just my Two cents,

Todd & Bella

yes, i have loads of advice for you.. the Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh is very very particular about the method of the marriage proposal and also the traditional vietnamese engagement celebration. if during this trip in December you intend to ask her to marry you, then there are several things that i strongly advise. first, keep the sales receipt of the engagement ring. remember that exact time and location of the proposal (name of restaurant. ect). and have a huge engagement celebration including atleast 20 or 30 photos of the celebration. honestly speaking, it would be wise to hire a professional photographer for this occasion. services in Vietnam are very inexpensive, so it would only cost you a small price. Also, make sure to keep evidence for all airline tickets (including your credit card statements). obtain receipts for the hotels that you stay in.
while you are in Vietnam, it is a good time to gather important infomation that you will need when applying for the visa. such as copies of her birth certificate, a few standard size passport photos of her, when and where her parents were born. her prior work experience and current occupation (although i doubt it matters whether she is currently employed or not).
keep in touch, i would be happy to answer more of your question. ..and best of luck ~

Actually, her and I have been video chatting for almost 1 year. I asked her sister and her sister's husband to introduce me to her (they live in the US). Her and I have either emailed or chatted almost every day since. I was visiting her sister and brother-in-law. They were showing me pictures and video from their wedding. I asked who this girl was, and she said, her sister.

I will be staying for 38 days. We are getting engaged on December 19th. I have saved everything. emails, chat logs, receipts, pictures, and we will be having a Dam Hoi (engagement ceremony and party). She is the oldest daughter, so I guess it is supposed to be a pretty big party. her family is expecting about 500 guests at the party.

Yes, Id o plan on saving all the above, and taking many pictures. We will also have many pictures of the Dam Hoi (Engagement Ceremony) and Party. there are supposed to be about 500 guests at the party.

Her being the oldest daughter in the family, makes it a very special event for the whole family. Plus I will be the 2nd American Son-in-law in this family as well.

I really wanted to take some time to spend with her, so I decided to go for 5 weeks. I will be there for Christmas and New Years (not TET).

Asia: East and PacificHow many people have sent money to Vietnam?
I have sent my fiancee money in the past.

There is a Local Vietnamese market that I go to that will deliver the money to her house. It is the cheapest way I have found to send money to her. For every $100 dollars you send, they charge a $3 fee.

She usually gets it in 2 days or less.

Over the past year I have sent her money to buy a computer, pay for english classes, and pay for DSL. I also bought her a motorbike.

I just returned from VN. I was there for 38 AMAZING days (PAID VACATION) and we got engaged.

I went to VN DEC 14th and had no problems bringing a laptop either way. I had to remove it from the bag in Hong Kong but not in HCMC. Also had a digital camera, jump drive, jewelry for the engagement (keep this on your person at all times), and about $9000 cash in $100 bills (kept in a neck work passport pouch)

Brought back CD's/DVD's, USB memory card reader, and never had any problems. Was never asked any questions.

I left VN on JAN 20th, and had the same experience, although the flight to Hong Kong from HCMC was delayed once we boarded about 1 hour 30 minutes so they could fix a hydraulic problem on the plane.

I have filed for K! visa for my fiance who is Vietnamese and 2 months pregnant. She is from the south, Kien Giang province to be exact.

She is the oldest child in the family (25), and both of her parents are 42. Her parents are giving her a very hard time because she went out with a girlfriend last night to a cafe to speak about their situations. Both of them currently without their significant other and missing them dearly. She asked me before if she could go out with her girlfriend and I said yes. She was out with her girlfriend for about 1 hour.

Upon her return home, her parents gave her a very hard time about not staying home because they consider her married. This has made her very sad. When she is sad, she I have no problem with her going to spend time with her friends, as she only has a limited time left to spend with them.

How do I get her parents to back off and not give her such a hard time?

How do I get my Em to be more understanding with her parents?

How can I help resolve this, now that I have the role of Anh Hai, without alienating her parents?

MarkANam is correct. You meet the burden of proof where you are "Legally able to Marry"

You can be a little more creative in how you answer "Question #18" of the I-129f.

Some people provide a short answer in the box provided, while others say "See attached Addendum"

The Addendum just gives you more space to meet the nurden of proof on how you met, or to explain any details of your situation that you or a lawyer may deem important.

I used an addendum to explain being introduced by her sister, having a child from a previous non-marital relationship, and my fiance being pregnant.

Asia: East and PacificVietnam Engagement Party
Dont worry about it.

Since you are only getting engaged, there is NO paperwork you need to do.

Take pictures.. LOT'S OF PICTURES!!! If you want, hire a photographer, and keep ALL of your receipts for the party. Ask for receipts for anything you buy that is tied to the ENGAGEMENT or the PARTY.

Hiring a photographer is VERY, VERY CHEAP. HAve some nice pictures taken. They will make nice KEEPSAKES for his family, and memories of the ceremony for you and Tan. IF you hire a Photographer, have the ceremony and party videotaped. They make really nice DVD videos in VN.

Keep the receipts for your dress, pictures, flowers, DJ or Band if you have one. If you have it catered, make sure you get a RECEIPT.

It will all be evidence of the engagement. At the party, You, Tan, and his parents will go around to every table, you will be introduced and there will be a toast made. You will be asked to drink, so PACE YOURSELF.

I wish I could have been able to speak alot of Vietnamese at the party but her younger sister translated for me.

When you speak, you will want to thank his parents for raising such a wonderful, for making you feel so welcome. Thank everyone for sharing this special occasion with you and Tan.

I think you and Tan have made a good choice to have the party. We had about 330-350 people at ours. they went through 26 cases of TIGER beer. I believe that is 20 bottles to a case, each bottle is 40oz.

But it was alot of fun. I wish Trang and I could be there. you will never forget this experience.
