CanadaWhat the heck did they do to the Heinz Ketchup???
I am SO glad I saw this thread before going to bed! I went to BC for the first time last May/June. I've never ever been a ketchup (ok ok catsup) person, but I fell in love with it in BC. We went to McDonald's on the way to his place that night (which was MUCH different to me as well) and I actually had to look under the bun to see what that yummy new sauce was. blush.gif laughing.gif

I keep trying to convince Alf to mail a few bottles with my next can of Timmy's, but he just laughs. All of my US friends think I'm insane when I say the ketchup was so much better in Canada. biggrin.gif

Check any documents that you have paper-clipped together - I regularly misplaced something that I KNOW I had by doing that exact same thing. Check any other papers you might have filed (ie in a filing cabinet) since you last saw it and see if it got attached to one of them by mistake. Good luck!

Kathryn, you totally saved my life! laughing.gif I went through everything about 15 times, and still couldn't find it. I dropped the frame I keep my Pharmacy Tech certification document in and broke the glass. I was getting all upset and panicky until I picked up the frame and noticed a yellow/gold paper stuck in behind the other document. I felt like Charlie Bucket opening that special Wonka bar! I found the golden ticket!!! *sings and dances*

I feel SO much better now, but I'm still completely nervous. We've had so many things go differently than we planned, and while I feel we're a stronger couple because of the obstacles, it's hard not to think, "what's going to happen now?"

Thanks again for all the help and advice. smile.gif We'll let you know what happens!

CanadaVancouver Interview 4-7-08 (YAY!!!)
Thanks for the replies and good luck wishes. smile.gif

I'm the USC, although I'd like to consider myself an honorary Canadian. yes.gif Sorry for the confusion, too.. I did mean certified copies, not originals. I'm going to tear the house apart tonight, as I have to mail the package out in the morning (no time to order or obtain a copy at the moment... nothing like waiting until the last minute! headbonk.gif ) for it to get to him before the interview. I *had* all my paperwork and copies right here together... so somehow that one wittle paper decided to grow legs and run away. *grumbles*

Part of me really believes they won't even ask for my certified copies, since they did receive everything of mine in the original packet, but that could just be silly wishful thinking, too.

I will definately let everyone know how it goes, or make him post his own review once we stop screaming/crying/celebrating/mourning/whatever. blush.gif

CanadaVancouver Interview 4-7-08 (YAY!!!)
After MONTHS of waiting on his long form birth cert from Ontario (looooooong story ugh) We finally have an interview date! Alf's interview is at 1pm on April 7th. I don't think it's quite hit me yet, but I'm really excited. It feels like we've waited forever, and now it's all flying by!

I do have a little concern about the original documents that he needs. I have all the copies of the K1 forms, copies of my birth certificate, marriage license, divorce decree etc etc etc..

I also have originals of everything... except my original marriage license! crying.gif I have *no* idea what could have happened to it, and it will probably turn up on the 7th... *sighs* But.. how crucial is it that he has the original with him? I'm trying not to freak out, but after waiting out this whole process I'm scared to death that my scatter-brained-ness (new word? tongue.gif ) could screw it all up. Any insight?

heart.gif heart.gif heart.gif Thanks!

CanadaU-HAUL?
We'll actually be using UPack and UHaul... Alf doesn't have access to a truck, and the door-to-door option with UPack was about $250 more than terminal-to-terminal. Instead of paying $250, he's paying UHaul about $40 and driving his things over to the terminal.

Like someone else has already said, make sure you both get quotes from UPack if you want to use them. My quote was at least $300 more than Alf's quote. blink.gif

For those of you who have used UPack, will they have all the nec. paperwork and forms for him to fill out, or should we get them online?

And I completely agree with needing to get everything debugged and signing a no creepy crawlies form. The creepy crawlies should have to wait for a visa just like the rest of us! whistling.gif devil.gif

kicking.gif kicking.gif kicking.gif APPROVAL FOR THE CANADA FORUM!!!!!! kicking.gif kicking.gif kicking.gif

Thank you all for helping to keep me sane (or as sane as possible for me!).. it really did help a lot!

Alf phoned me at almost 4 Vancouver time (3 hours after the scheduled time! ack!) and I could hear it in his voice before he ever said anything. *cheesy grins* He's supposed to pick up his visa at 2pm tomorrow. I can't even tell you how excited I am!

He said they only asked a few questions at the actual interview. He said it's all a blur a tthis point, but he does remember her asking how we met, when we met in person, when he proposed, and glanced through the pictures. I'm SO relieved it was so easy. biggrin.gif

When it comes to our relationship, something seems to *always* go wrong. I can't even list everything right now, but we did have our usual "something" today as well. When Alf went back out to the car to leave, there was an officer leaving him a parking ticket! He only paid the meter 2 hours, and was help up a bit longer due to a complicated case being before his. rofl.gif I told him I was more than happy for that the be our "something" this time!

CanadaInterview today!!
Alf's interview is in 13 hours, 14 minutes and 42...41....40 seconds. I can't sleep. I'm a mess! I'm trying not to worry too much, but yeah.. that isn't happening. I don't think we really have too much to worry about logically. We're going through an 'easy' consulate. We have everything we need, plus some. I don't feel like there will be any question about the validity our relationship, I am very close to the 125% above poverty line alone, and have a co-sponser who well exceeds. I guess the thing that is making me sick with worry is knowing that no matter how much we love each other, and no matter how much I need him here with me, it's completely out of our hands and in the hands of a stranger. I am on the verge of tears and it's about 239487234234234 different emotions. I can't believe that after all this waiting and being apart, tomorrow afternoon we will have our answer.

If we get that magic little 'yes', I will be in his arms for good on Thursday morning.

This has been the most frustrating, infuriating, stressful, wonderful thing I've ever experienced. It's such a strange process, emotion-wise. The waiting is excrutiating, but at the same time, in going through this together I know I will always apreciate being with him and never take him for granted.

Thank you all so much for being here. I know I don't post much, but reading and lurking (and of course reading the guides and examples!!) has helped me more that I could ever explain.

12 hours, 58 minutes, 42 seconds... aaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh crying.gif kicking.gif wacko.gif blink.gif good.gif

Poor puppy AND puppy mommy! I hope the stress ends (or at least gets better) soon!

I wanted to add... I'm a pharmacy tech and there are some cases that prescriptions can be filled early. Since it's BC and not a controlled substance, it wouldn't hurt to call the pharmacy and see if they can talk to the insurance about an override, if you use insurance for your medications. If you don't have insurance, the pharmacist might okay an early fill since you are out. Just a thought! smile.gif

The first gift I sent to Alf when he was still in BC, he had to pay duty fees when it was delivered. sad.gif But for his birthday, I got around all the extra fees and huge shipping costs by buying from Canada. CanadaGetting to Know You -
1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? Both

2. Real tree or Artificial? I love the smell of real trees, but we use artificial, at least until the kids are old enough to leave it alone!

3. When do you put up the tree? First part of December

4. When do you take the tree down? After Jan 1st

5. Do you like eggnog? It's ok, but I can't drink it often

6. Favorite gift received as a child? Castle Grey Skull/ the teeny diamond ring dad bought me when I was about 10.

7. Hardest person to buy for? My parents. They never want us to get them anything.

8. Easiest person to buy for? Hubby... at least this year!

9. Do you have a nativity scene? No

10. Mail or email Christmas cards? Probably email. Mailing them got too expensive when I was not working, so I got out of the habit

11. Worst Christmas gift you ever received? A scary-looking rooster cookie jar thing. *shudder* It was EVIL.

12. Favorite Christmas movie? " National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation

13. When do you start shopping for Christmas? Right after Thanksgiving, but sometimes find some great deals after Christmas too!.

14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? Not that I remember...

21. Angel on the tree top or a star? Angel.. but she's about 12-13 years old, so we might be getting a new one soon

23. Most annoying thing about this time of the year? Christmas music playing while shopping for Halloween costumes / materialism!

24. Favorite ornament theme or color? mostly mis-matched and homemade. I 'inherited' mom's old ornaments when they switched to a smaller tree, so I still have ornaments my sister and I made as children. *whispers* I cry every year when we decorate the tree.. all those memories!

Everyone have a great weekend. We're supposed to be in for a "storm of the century" Sunday evening into Monday, which means the store shelves will be empty. Now THAT is a phenomenon that may be unique to St. Louis. Mention snow storm, or ice...and people PANIC. They buy all the bread and milk at the store, their are lineups at the hardware stores for salt and shovels. It's hilarious.

We're not too very far from you, here in Louisville, but we have the same phenomenon. They can say "flurries" and people freak out! lol It really wasn't too bad until we had the storm in 1994. They predicted a few inches of snow and we ended up getting over 24 inches. The entire city was shut down for over a week. You'd think people would have calmed down a bit since then!

I completely understand the frustrations about getting different medications than you were expecting, and not being counselled about medication.

I'm not sure exactly which states follow which laws, but in KY, we are required by law to substitute the generic equivilent of almost all drugs (if available, of course) unless the patient or doctor requests differently. Most insurances won't cover the brand name (even if the doctor requires brand), but if you want to pay cash price for it, you can request brand.

Some states have to get your permission to fill with generic, but I think most states are the other way around.

We are also required to ask the patient if they have any questions about their medication, no matter how long they've been taking it. I'm honestly not sure if that's a state law, or just a CVS "Law"... but we ask! lol

I can honestly say that I HATE insurance companies. I can't even tell you how many hours per day I'm on the phone trying to get them to cover certain medications. If it's too expensive, they won't pay.. if it isn't on their company formulary the won't pay. Most will eventually pay after the doctor contacts the insurance company to explain why he/she chose this more expensive drug etc etc. Meanwhile, the patient is stuck without medication waiting for all the red tape to be cut, and they're screaming and cursing at me because I won't give them their medicine. *sighs* I love my job. lol
