IMBRA Special TopicsDefinition of "Marriage Broker"

I am also wondering .....what if we met BEFORE the IMBRA Law was passed. Does it still apply to me?

I met my fiance in person in the USA and it applies to me .. it just depends on when the paperwork was received.. if it was received before March 6 then supposedly it doesn't. But anything since then yes. If you met her 10 years ago and just filed the paperwork recently it still affects you.. it affects everyone.

Thanks, so......from what I understand I would just answer 'yes' to the question and.......if I have no criminal history then everything should be fine?

IMBRA Special TopicsDefinition of "Marriage Broker"

I personally don't know.. But first I would contact an immigration attorney to be sure.. or maybe even contact Match.com and ask them if they are classified as that.. unfortunatly many people are unsure of alot of things.. I would not consider match.com a marriage broker.. But I would think the questions that IMBRA is wanting to ask would definitly affect Match.com users because of how you meet.

IMBRA Special TopicsDefinition of "Marriage Broker"
I'm wondering what the correct definition of a "Marriage Broker" is as it applies to the IMBRA Law and the RFE's that USCIS is sending out to us?

I met my Fiance on 'Match.com' which is an internet dating site, but not what I would personaly consider a marriage broker.

Just wondering how to answer the questions correctly when I get the RFE so there are no future problems with my Petition?

Looks like CSC is working on the 4th. I was touched on July 3rd and 4th. They must be serious about clearing the backlog.

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusHi! New to VJ
Hi! My name is Natalie and I am NOT Russian. I am an American living in Ukraine and am dating a guy from Russia. We are talking about getting married and trying to figure out everything (where to live, where to get married, which visa process we want to do, etc.)

Just wonderin if there are any others out there in my situation. I know that there are many American men/Russian women marriages, but what about American women with Russian men?

Is anyone out there? I would love to talk with you about your experiences!

Thanks

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusI-130 Filing from Ukraine
Okay, this is confusing... because i went to the "Special Instructions" on the USCIS website and there are no Special Instructions written.. it is blank... but when you open the new I-130 Form it says that if you live abroad you should file with the overseas office that has jurisdiction....

I am copying from the I-130...

Petitioners residing abroad: If you live in Canada, file your petition at the Vermont Service Center. Exception: If youare a U.S. citizen residing in Canada, and you are petitioningfor your spouse, child, or parent, you may file the petition atthe nearest American Embassy or Consulate, except for thosein Quebec City. If you reside elsewhere outside the UnitedStates. file your relative petition at the USCIS office overseas or the U.S. Embassy or Consulate having jurisdiction over the area where you live. For further information, contact the nearest American Embassy or Consulate.

Are the rules changing or am I reading this wrong????

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusI-130 Filing from Ukraine
I found the answer. If you live in Ukraine as a resident, then you may file in Moscow as that office has jurisdiction. The only problem is that you have to file in person which means I woudl have to get a Russian visa, so I may just try filing it from the States.

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusI-130 Filing from Ukraine
I have been trying to find the answer to my question without much success... maybe someone here knows...

I have read that if you live abroad, you may file the I-130 with the USCIS office that has jurisdication over your place of residence. Does anyone know which office has jurisdiction over Ukraine (Kharkov)? Is it Moscow?

Just trying to figure it all out...

You might want to try this website http://www.cheap-moscow.com/ There is a section of rooms to rent direct from landlords. There are even places you can stay for free in exchange for English.

Good Luck!

USCIS Service CentersService Center Information
Our K1-visa went really fast. We got the interview, his approval, his biometrics, his combo card within one year. At that time, the processing times for the green card showed about a 4 month waiting period. We got the combo card and social security card in August of 2012. We have heard NOTHING since and the processing times for AOS I-485 show estimated 18 months' waiting. We will need to apply for an extension on the combo card and his passport will need to be renewed in 2014. Is there any reason for this big jump from a 4 month waiting period until an 18 month? Has there been an influx of applications for AOS?

Thanks for the response and best to all those waiting.

Waivers (I-601 and I-212) and Administrative Processes (221g)Yes...oops Sorry....212G!!!
Thanks for responding. I have been read, read, reading! I will set my mind on 5 months (seems somewhat normal) and hope for shorter. I told the CO directly, I did not believe him for 1, 2 or 3 weeks. But what can you do? They have called my fiance after I sent an email asking for the paperwork so that we could marry while I was there. They strongly encouraged us to wait, saying that their office felt confident we would get the visa. There is really nothing else to do besides wait. We do talk daily and are best friends to each other. We have been doing this almost 3 years now, so neither of us is going to finish the relationship over this delay. We stay busy with work and stay hopeful for the best. If it is 5 months, he would be here by August 2012, which is only 1 year since we started the process. So, it's not bad. It was just so emotional to be told yes and 5 minutes later to lose it all! But God is GREAT!

They told u 1 to 2 weeks. In their language 1 to 2 months. They told my husband the same thing and it has been 1 month. Good luck

This just made me laugh sooooooooo hard! Yes, I think that is an accurate conversion. Best of luck to you both as you wait also!

Waivers (I-601 and I-212) and Administrative Processes (221g)Yes...oops Sorry....212G!!!

Most Ap is resolved in 2 months
then 4-5 months
then a few unlucky name hits last a LONG time

So hang in there. It will be a very stressful and painful time. Talk to him daily and keep reminding each other the end of AP will come.

You can call DOS
202-663-1225
press 1 then press 0 to speak to someone

Ask them for case status updates weekly to see if he is in
MANDATORY AP or Internal AP(I think that is the name)If it is mandatory then it is name and background checks and if it is internal then the embassy is doing the background or paperwork review.

Good Luck

Waivers (I-601 and I-212) and Administrative Processes (221g)Yes...oops Sorry....212G!!!
My Fiance and I went together to the Consulate in Tunis, Tunisia on February 21, 2011. I had the huge dossier of every document I could possible think of and then the duplicates. We had pictures, evidence, forms, taxes, letters from employers, check stubs. My fiance was asked 2 questions. I was asked 2 questions. Then he handed me a little green receipt like a dry cleaning ticket and said come back Wednesday at 2. I was stunned. I said, did we get the visa? He said tomorrow at 2 you will. I said, I fly back to America on Saturday, can he come with me. He said YES! We left on cloud 999! We began to discuss finding a ticket and all the next steps. As we climbed into our car to leave, the phone call came asking us to return to the consulate. When I got there, the same man told me, "I'm sorry, I spoke too soon." He handed back the passport and gave me a white piece of paper. 221g. I asked if he needed documents (he had never looked at anything I had with me.) and he said no. He said that he could not tell me the reason. I said, I have heard of administrative review. It takes forever, months, years. He said, no it would be 1, 2 or 3 weeks. They would call my fiance. I asked if we should just get married. He said that would invalidate the K-1 visa and we would have to start again. I said, from what I've heard, the time difference will be the same. He encouraged us just to wait and that he was sure we would get the visa.

What a story!!! As I have been reading here, there is nothing to do but call and wait. It seems the average is 4-5 months. Is there any official average wait time on 212g?

If the answer comes back denied, do we have a chance if we marry? The only "red flag" I can see is that he was born in Libya (his dad was working there when he was born) but is a Tunisian. He had a clean police record. We met all the criteria and had all the documents. He has a very common name. Any thoughts?
