CG,

Your wife can send packet 3 any time she wants, the sooner the better. And the reason why people fax and mail it via Servientrega is because even though the embassy may say that they did receive the fax, they might later say that they didn't. The Servientrega packet is a back up to the fax.

And yes, if she send them packet 3 tomorrow you will probably get a May interview.

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to let you know that I leave this Sunday. I'll be flying to Cali and staying there 2 nights in order to meet Sandra's sister and brother in law and their kids who live there. It will be my first time in Cali. Sandra is Paisa. We will be flying to Bogota on Tuesday and have our apt. with Dr. Gonzales on Wednesday afternoon. Our interview is Friday the 18th. We will be staying at Bogota Lodging. Anyone else having their interview on the 18th ????

Thanks to everyone who has provided useful info via this forum. I am so excited and soooooo ready to get on the plane!

Hello everybody, can anyone give me an estimate as to how long would it take to have my girlfriend here with me once i file out the I-129 form for Fiance? thank you all in advanced for looking into this.

Steve, really depends on several factors;

what visa service center you file with ? (check USCIS processing times)
if you recieve any RFEs after you receive NOA1 ?
If you utilize the shortcuts after you get NOA2 for getting an early interview ?

Advice, READ, READ, AND READ SOME MORE !

As for myself I received my NOA1 in early Nov/07 and our interview is next week on the 18th.
So in my case (if all goes well, fingers crossed) 5 1/2 months from filing to interview.
BTW I filed to the Vermont Service Center.

No 2 cases or really alike though.

Greg

Steve,

BTW, please go ahead and file a timeline so we can keep up with your case.

Diana,

Both, the NVC and the DOS should have the interview date as soon as the embassy in Bogotá assigns it. You just had bad luck with that lady since some of them obviously hate their jobs. You can call again later this week if you want and you might get a nicer rep. Or you can try the DOS # as well. Either one should work.

Colombianogringo,

You can call the embassy this Wednesday to see if they have your case. There is a post in here somewhere with the number and hours you can call on Wednesdays, they should be able to tell you. OR you can check out the K1 Colombian thread in the Latin American forum, they still use the DHL tracking option to see when it was received by the embassy.

Diana

I've had very good luck getting information from the embassy by using the consulate E-mail, www.IVBogota@state.gov
Generally thay have replied to my emails within 24 hours.

Greg

Embassy phone # 011-57-1-315-1566 , they accept calls on Weds from 2 pm to 4 pm only.

Thanks for the congrats and I wish the best for everyone with these things in the future.

Yesterday, I started a little write up of my wife's experience with the interview, but it is on another computer. I will finish it up in the next 48 hours and post it.

I was sitting on the approval for a day and just recovering from the stress. I have slept pretty good these past 2 days. This whole thing is still kind of surreal to me.

God is good!

Hey everyone,

Just wondering if anyone can give me an update on the current costs for getting the 2 documents from DAS: police &
migratorio.

On a side note Sandra called and was able to obtain an apt. w/ Dr. Gonzales on the afternoon of April 16th.
We have our interview on the 18th and will be staying with Bob at Bogota Lodging.

Thanks for any info you can pass along. I am working hard every weekend on my house with interior painting, new carpet and flooring, spring cleaning and all around household repairs. Between my job and all the work at home and the perpetual second guessing myself about if I have everything in order is driving me a little crazy. Im just ready to bring my Paisita home to Louisiana.

Hi everyone,
When you have traveled to Colombia in the past, how and where do you exchange currency? I normally send money to Margara Western Union. I don't want her to travel with such a large ammount of money on her. This trip will require much more money than previous trips, what with the doctor and visas and vaccinations. I would prefer to bring it myself. On previous trips, I noticed a currency exchange at the airport in Miami. Is anyone familiar with these airport currency exchanges? I have a feeling they might charge large fees. Worst case I will just send her the money and we can pick it up together in Bogota.

Thanks

john

I just always use my ATM to withdraw COPs from any bank there and do not have the worry of transporting large sums of US dollars and than having to find a place to exchange them with a suitable exchange rate. Why do you not like to withdraw money with your ATM card in Colombia?

To: All VJ members going through the U.S. Embassy in Bogotá, Colombia.

I am posting this thread because I have had to explain this process many times so by putting it here it should help everyone. The best of luck to your fiancée and you. heart.gif

You could look at my timeline and get an idea. Remember no two K-1 fiancée visa petitions are exactly the same.

After your petition leaves your service center (CSC/TSC, NVC, VSC) it goes to NVC and it might take about two weeks. From NVC it goes to the U.S. Embassy in Bogotá this usually takes about four or five days.

There are short-cuts that you can take once the petition gets to Bogotá. But the first thing you do is to call NVC every couple of days to a week. Make sure you speak with a customer service representative and not the automated system, K-1’s stay less than two weeks and they do not put them in the system. When you call NVC, get your case number and ask them when they will sent the petition out. Once you know that date, call back on that date and make sure that they sent it out. Then you track the package through www.dhl.com. I will give you the instruction later.

Once the petition gets to the Embassy you or your fiancée faxes and sends by courier (Servientrega); a copy of your fiancées passport, OF-169, DS-2001 and DS-230 part 1. If the Embassy gets these documents before the cut-off date (varies from month to month 16th to the 20th) then you get the interview the following month. If not by the cut-off date you get the interview the month after that. yes.gif

After the NOA2 every thing moves fast so you need to make sure your fiancée and you get all the documents, paperwork, and all other stuff ready and send it to her. good.gif

Good luck,

Peter Miami

Peter,

In addition to the information we gathered for the 129F application. What other paperwork should my fiance in Medellin be gathering now.
I understand that I need to have my tax returns for the last 3 years. Exactly what information do we need to have ready to send to the embassy in Bogata. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresHelp! Jordan - Husband PASSED interview BUT ..
So THAT's what it's called...."administrative processing." I didn't know. Now I can look at the threads on here regarding that. I just didn't know what it was called!

"something of a timeline.." lol

- Married - Jordan, Nov. 11, 2007
- Filed immediately.
- We were approved for everything (sorry but don't have exact dates and names for everything with me right now. smile.gif
- Husband's appointment at Embassy in Jordan - Nov. 19, 2008. Was told "everything is good. We must only send for one more security check. It takes an average of 1-3 months." That's it. That's all we were told. Our lawyer didn't even know what that meant. (Lawyer in Jordan - yes, we got a new lawyer). But my husband is doing everything from over there because I was living with him until a few months ago when I had to come back to the US to take care of my mother.
- Contacted the embassy again last week 02/26/09 and was told it was at the State Department. They have no idea when it will be sent, but it takes an average of 3 months.

I didn't even know it was called "administrative processing" until you wonderful people cleared it up for me. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. ! luv.gif

Hopefully it won't take much longer. unsure.gif

My husband's interview was the US Embassy in Jordan on Nov. 19, 2008. They told him that everything looked good and that his papers were being sent to the State Department for another security check. We were told it would take 1-3 months. It has been 3 months and there is still no word. We check with embassy frequently but they say that they are waiting on the State Department.

Has anyone else had this happen? Where they were 'approved' but had to await ANOTHER security check from the state department? I can't find any information on this at all, anywhere, and believe me, I've looked!

The embassy just keeps telling us to 'hang in there, we only await the state department'. I'm not sure what that means. Have we been approved or not?

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresK3 Visa returned to USCIS
After the Embassy held our file for almost six months, they returned it to the USCIS. My senator's office just informed me that the USCIS told them to contact them in another 6-9 months.

I don't know what else to do.

I haven't seen my husband in a year after having been married for almost 2 years and having lived with him in Jordan for 7 months. Proving we have a true marriage was never the problem.

No one will tell us why....Not the embassy, not the USCIS, not the NVC. They wouldn't even tell my senator's office. He has no criminal record, no red flags (that I'm aware of) and no reason whatsoever for any of this. He is 50 years old and I am 45. The only reason I am not with him in Jordan now is because I'm the only one who can care for my mother who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's, so I had to return to the states.

Now I'm torn. Do I put my mother in a nursing home and return to my husband? Do I stay without my husband for 1-2 more years while I care for my mother? We are 50 and 45 and not getting any younger. It's a no-win situation and this is tearing my heart out and I am so very tired.

I've tried lawyers...I've paid so much money for them to tell me that they want more money that I have no money left. I've tried to find someone with a similar situation on here but I can't.

If anyone knows what else I could possibly do other than contacting my senator/representative, spending money on a lawyer to tell me the same thing the senator's office did, please...please...let me know.

Please.

signature of person preparing this form, if other than the petitioner

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & Procedurestwo different addresses!!
hello,
we sent the I-129F package yesterday !! hope that our process will go fast & smooth as for all of you!!

now we have a doubt about an issue

when my husband sent the I-130, he wrote the home address where he used to live and was living at the date of sending the I-130 (17th april).
a couple of weeks later (at the beginning of this month (May)), he moved to an other apartment in an other neighborhood. So, while filing out the I-129F package he provided the "new" apartment address.
now, we fear that this change of address will cause, in a way or an other, a problem somewhere in our visa process :(

our idea is that he'll call the USCIS in Texas (where he sent the I-130, to tell them about his "new" address of living)... i wonder if a simple call will be sufficiant?!! ... should he write a letter to USCIS? or fill a specific form?...etc

do you think that this two addresses may cause us a problem???
tell us what you think... we appreciate your help & suggestions

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresNOA1- what next?... what should be prepared?
Hello
yesterday my husband called me to announce me that we received I-129F's NOA1
My love will be here in Morocco in 3 weeks  he'll stay for 6 weeks (till mid july)
what is next now?... waiting the NOA2, am I right??
but, so as to save time, what papers should he prepare & bring with him to Morocco?

an other general question :
After receiving the NOA1s of both I-130 & I-129F, is there still a possibility that the USCIS may send us a RFE?? (wish not especially that my husband will be outside the US for 6 weeks)

thank you in advance for your help and suggestions

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresEmail RFE for I-129F
I revieved an email notification for RFE 2 days ago... we don't know if we got the hard copy in the box by now coz my husband is with me here in Morocco.
We'll act as soon as he'll be back to USA... at least we are happy that our case has been touched, too :)
