PhilippinesWhy there are pinays out there who feels so conceited about theirselves once they arrived here in the States?
I have been to few states for work purposes and sometimes when I met a filipina as well, considering the time she was just here in the states, (say just 2-6 months) they feel like they've just earn the right to be a b**ch, and some thinks their a$*es don't stink.. I mean, there are so many trying hard to blend-in that quick in the American way ( e.g the way they cloth their selves, the way they talk, interpret things). Just because some girls married a foreigner they evolved too quick. I don't blame other people why they would immediately think that these types of gals really just use their husbands as a ticket to the USA. It makes me aggravated everytime I come across with a fellow pinay who acts like this.
Why can't we just put our feet on the ground and stay humble. CAN SOMEBODY ENLIGHTEN ME WHY THIS HAPPENS???

We even have more here in Louisiana, especially in the Baton Rouge area.
Charges are already filed in California where the owner of the recruiting agency is headquartered.

I feel so sorry for them. :(

PhilippinesWhy was her answer considered a 'gaffe'?
MISS PHILIPPINES – VENUS RAJ GAVE AN HONEST ANSWER AND IT COSTS HER THE CROWN

Let me enlighten you as to why?

Venus Raj lives a simple and poor life. She lives in a province, sort of your rural America or the boonies. The house she lives in is a simple thatched-roof hut made of bamboo and wood, located in the middle of the rice paddies. Her immediate support are her family, friends, and relatives. She was born illegitimate. In the Philippine society, it is still a stigma. She strives to do her best to study hard and succeed in life. She graduated Cum Laude in Communication Arts and managed to find a job as Information Assistant in a governmental agency in her province. While doing that, she helps her mother, a farmer, buys land on installment basis. Her goal is to help her mother and family improve the quality of their lives and lift from the life of poverty.

Going back to the question posed by Mr. Baldwin, “what is the one big mistake that you did in your life, and what did you do to make it right?” When Venus answered, “In my 22 years of existence, there is nothing major – major problem that I have done in my life. Because I’m very confident about my family and the love they are giving me. So thank you so much…”

IF YOU ANALYZE HER ANSWER, SHE IS TELLING THE AUDIENCE THE TRUTH! WHEN DOES TRUTH BECOMES A LIABILITY?

In her 22 years of life, she did not commit a ONE BIG MISTAKE WORTH UNDOING OR REGRETTING! SHE THANKS HER FAMILY BECAUSE THEY ARE HER GUIDE AND SUPPORT.

Let’s see…where could she make a big mistake?

DID SHE SLEEP AROUND AND CATCH HIV/STD DISEASES? – No, she did not. Remember, she lives in a rural area in a conservative Catholic society, acting whorish is a big NO NO! DID SHE GET PREGNANT AND HAVE AN ABORTION? – NO, she did not. She is one wholesome girl. Her family watched, protected, and nurtured her. She can’t escape the watchful eyes of her 4 brothers. Suitors will have a hard time to be near her. If there is going to be one, he will be talking to the whole family instead of talking privately with her. That’s the way life in rural Philippines. Everybody knows everybody, and everybody knows what everybody is doing. DID SHE SMOKE OR DID DRUGS? – NO, she did not. She came from a poor family. She has no means of buying it. These bad habits are only enjoyed by the wretched people, who are typically shunned by Philippine conservative society. DID SHE FAIL IN SCHOOL? – No, she did not. She excelled in school. Graduated Cum Laude. DID SHE COVET A MARRIED MAN? – No, she did not. She doesn’t have a boyfriend at the present time. IS SHE A BAD DAUGHTER? – No, she is not. In fact, she helps her mother and family improve their lives.

OVERALL, VENUS IS A WHOLESOME, GOOD GIRL, WHO GREW UP IN A RURAL CONSERVATIVE SOCIETY, PROTECTED, NURTURED, AND WATCHED BY HER LOVE ONES AND DID NOT EXPERIENCE BIG MISTAKES IN LIFE. SHE LEAD A CAREFUL AND NORMAL LIFE THAT IS TOTALLY OPPOSITE OF WHAT YOU EXPECT OF A LIFE OF A YOUNG LADY IN THE MODERN WESTERN SOCIETY.

UNFORTUNATELY, SHE WAS JUDGED BY A PANEL OF MODERN SOCIETY JUDGES AND AUDIENCES WHO CAN’T BELIEVE WHAT THEY WERE HEARING. TRUTH IS INDEED STRANGER THAT FICTION. BUT JUDGES, BY VIRTUE OF BEING A JUDGE, SHOULD ALSO LOOK AT FACTS AND TRUTHS, NOT SOME GENERALIZED OPINION THAT SOUNDS GOOD TO THE POLITICALLY CORRECT. VENUS ANSWER WAS FACTUAL AND BRAVE, AND SHE SHOULDN’T BE LAMBASTED FOR TELLING THE TRUTH, AND IT SHOULDN’T COST HER THE CROWN.

VENUS COMING FROM A POOR EXISTENCE AND MAKING IT INTO THE WORLD SHOULD HAVE BEEN A GREAT ROLE MODEL FOR PEOPLE LIVING AND BORN INTO POVERTY, WHICH APTLY APPLIES TO THE 70% OF THE WORLD POPULATION, AND FOR THOSE BORN OUT OF WEDLOCK. SHE CAN BE A GREAT MESSENGER TO THE WORLD THAT:

1. THERE IS NOTHING TO BE ASHAMED OF BEING BORN OF OUT WEDLOCK. IT IS NOT THE END OF THE WORLD. LIFE OFFERS REDEMPTION AND MANY POSSIBILITIES. 2. BEING POOR IS NOT A HINDRANCE TO SUCCEED IN LIFE. 3. STRESS THE IMPORTANCE OF EDUCATION AND OF FINISHING COLLEGE. 4. HIGHLIGHT THE IMPORTANCE OF MORAL CHARACTER AND A GIRL’S WHOLESOME IMAGE 5. FAITH OF A CREATOR WITH UNLIMITED GIFTS TO THOSE WHO BELIEVE ~NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE WITH GOD. HE CAN USE A MESSENGER FROM THE LOWLY AND POOR AND EXALT HER TO NEW HEIGHTS. SHE CAN BE A LIVING TESTAMENT OF GOD’S GRACE AND POWER THAT HE CAN DO ANYTHING AND CAN CHANGE LIVES. 6. GREAT ROLE MODEL FOR YOUNG GIRLS ~BE VIRTUOUS~BE HONEST ~HONOR THE PARENTS~EXCEL IN SCHOOL~HELPS FAMILY, ETC.

WHERE CAN YOU FIND A RARE AND SPECIAL GIRL LIKE VENUS RAJ?

MR. TRUMP AND THE PANEL OF JUDGES FAILED TO DO THEIR DUE DILIGENCE. THEY FAILED TO DO THEIR JOB AND IN FAILING TO DO THEIR JOB, THEY MISSED THIS ONCE IN A LIFETIME OPPORTUNITY FOR A GREAT MESSENGER TO THE WORLD, WHO IS CONVINCINGLY BELIEVABLE TO THE WORLD, BECAUSE SHE IS A LIVING AND BREATHING PROOF OF A POOR GIRL BORN OUT OF WEDLOCK WHO OVERCOMES HARDSHIPS, OBSTACLES, AND CHALLENGES IN LIFE. JUST LOOK AT HER LIFE … AND HOW FAR SHE GOES.

IF THE MISS UNIVERSE ORGANIZATION WANTS TO BE RELEVANT NOW AND IN THE FUTURE, THEY SHOULD SEND THE RIGHT MESSENGER TO THE WORLD, WHO WOULD INSPIRE THE WORLD BY EXAMPLE, AND WHO CAN WALK THE TALK. A PRETTY FACE WON’T CUT IT ANYMORE.

 I would have answered you at the first time If I know the answer to your question. You can ask a member of your family I guess, who knows it is a non-working holiday if you don't want to call St. Lukes.

hi cutie! thanks for ur reply. ive noticed it took u long time to send the I-130. is that the reason it took u also a year before you got ur visa?

We weren't in a hurry to file the I-130 after we got married. Even after we filed the I-130, we weren't in a hurry to to take the next step to the other.
But we got approved so quickly. We didn't had any problems or whatsover when we submit the required documents. Like I said, just read the guides so you know the step by step of this process.
Good luck.

Start reading and understanding the CR1 guide by heart so you and your spouse know what to do step by step.
You don't need a lawyer, as you can just do it by yourselves. Its a long and tideous process but if you fill out the forms diligently, Y'all be fine. There's no room for mistakes.
If you need further assistance we are here to help you along the way.

Good luck in your visa process!

Philippineswhere will be my POE?

You must have went with the cheapest air fare and it shows all thosse stops on the way and each stop will be over an hour.

Having 2 or more stop overs doesn't mean you have the cheapest airfare possible. It only means that these stop overs are the only available flight that can bring the passenger to the destination and for a right price.
Direct flights from one country to the other are the ones who are bound to humongous airport (e.g. MNL- LAX) considering you will only be crossing the pacific ocean.

PhilippinesTravel Agent
My husband booked his flight to the PI 2 years ago by using this site,
www.bt-store.com They have awesome prices that time I don't know until now. He got a round trip ticket for a price of $1,115

As for me, I booked my flight with a travel agent, MNL- LAX . I am just the type of person that I want someone I can talk in front of me and discuss my options and most esp if there is something wrong, I have someone to fuzz at.

Alisto Travel is on top of my list for travel agencies at least here in the Philippines. I got my 1st time immigrant discount and also a direct flight to LAX for only
Fare: $396
Foreign Taxes: $148.60
Ph Taxes: $34.30

Total: $578.90

So I'd definitely book my flights with them when I need one. :)

I hope someone can share or give any info's hopefully asap. thanks in advance :)

As much as we would like to provide information about Filipino-Spanish marriage but, I believe; Majority of the people here re more familiar with Filipino-American marriages. However, the best thing for your friend to do is to go to the Spanish Embassy and start gathering information from their office.

Philippinesim lost
I have encountered this concern already and I believe there was someone who just finished renewing her passport that she doesn't have to go to the Philippine Consulate.
I believe it was happywifeymom who did the renewal through mail.
You can try to message her and ask how did she do it. And you can also try to google Philippine consulate's website and look for the steps on renewing a passport.

PhilippinesSnail mail question

My fiance sent me a letter and pictures about 2 months ago via snail mail and I still haven't received it. Do you think I ever will?

How long (typically) does it take snail mail to get to the US from the Philippines?

Thanks!

Sending snail mail from the Philippines to the US is a nightmare.
My mom sent me a "registered" mail which contains documents that I had to sign, but it took 2.5 months to get to my mailbox. This type of letters has to go through customs too. Which makes it longer to reach the receiver's doorstep.

But, when my mom sent a birthday card to my cousin in Idaho, it only took 8 days and it wasn't registered. Its just a regular letter.

So your fiancee must've sent it in registered option.

You should be able to receive it in next few weeks. Fingers crossed.

PhilippinesI gotta know

The wife gets here in 1 week. I'm kinda wondering what's gonna happen. I mean, Is she gonna be on an emotional roller coaster or is it gonna be like everything is good. Plus what is she gonna like and dislike about things here. Will she rearrange everything in the house? I like to watch some football and have a beer or two on the weekend, will that be cool? These are only a few, a thousand more have been running through my brain. My VJ brothers, please let me know the good and the bad of when your Asawa got to the good 'ol US of A. Thanks so much.

We can't answer all your questions since we don't know either. You're the only person who can see what's going to happen.
Everybody has different way of adapting into a new environment. Your wife might be in emotional roller coaster or she might be just lonesome in few days but after that she might be fine. Try to show her your place or even visit places. Have your second honeymoon to make up the time that was lost when both of you weren't together.

I know its terrifying anticipating a new chapter of your life but try to do things together so she won't feel alone and understand her if she'd have few tantrums since she is new in another country.

Good luck!

PhilippinesAffidavit of Support Question
Its been so long since we were in this process but I'm goin try to recall, and someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Let's based the situation to both of you to avoid confusions.

Your husband should use the I-864 form , together with this form, he should present his ITR for the past 5 yrs (3 yrs will do), title for any properties, Only IF your husband didn't meet the poverty guidelines, That's the time your husband would need a co-sponsor who will need to fill out I-864A and the co-sponsor has to show ITR too to boost up the qualifications of the petitioner for the affidavit of support for the beneficiary.

I hope that gives you a little information.

Cutie_PatootieFemalePhilippines2010-09-27 16:45:00
PhilippinesFiancee may have a different purpose! - Pls. advise
I feel sorry for your friend, for several reasons. On top of them is, begging for the girl's commitment after she brought her over here for marriage. The girl should at least be cooperative from his plan for marriage, after the marriage, that's the time she can focus on looking for work.

Another sensitive situation here is that, the uncle is pulling this scare feeling to the petitioner because he was a I.O, that the uncle knows better even they don't get married. He should know better than that.

If the girl hides from her friends and relatives that she went to the US, if she stays with relatives after she arrives in the US ( situation like this doesn't happen all the time), if she puts work over getting married, if she doesn't want to be a Mrs, and most importantly, admits that she doesn't love the guy very much... NOW, tell me if this is normal.

You decide.

PhilippinesBuhay Amerika...I am missing life in Philippines!
I have struggled to the worst state I could ever imagine adjusting. Since I am very close to my family (mom and I were just sisters, and my sisters and I were just like best friends) and I have the most adorable, lovable grandparents I could ever asked for... Their love and care and most esp the laughter that only from them I can enjoy are what I missed the most. The foods I can cook myself but the above mention is not available to any of the asian markets around.

It's good thing I have relatives around and was able to take a vacation for 2 months in Idaho, that vacation gave me a taste of pinas life in america wherein I have my cousin whom I did a lot of activities with in filipino way (e.g. Cooking pinoy food almost everyday, laugh trip). The visit has helped me a lot to adjust since I have someone around to mend my lonesomeness. When I'm ready to face the real life in America... I went home to my husband's.

In short, It's important that once you are here in the United States, that you have someone to talk to, do things together (whenever your hubby is not around), and of course find time to discover that inner creativity skills to find out if you have a talent for cross-stitching, crocheting, baking, or any type of activities/hobby to make yourself occupy. In this way, you won't be missing so much all the things you have been missing back home.

PhilippinesDivorce
Q. Can an American citizen get married in the Philippines again after having a divorced to a filipina?
A:
"A legal divorce in the USA is valid worldwide..." so YES!

Yes, if you are an American citizen, you CAN legally re-marry a filipina without filing annulment. All you need to do is have a certified copy of your divorce decree. It doesn't matter where you were previously married or to who. All he needs to do is to bring the certified copy of the divorce decree to the US Embassy in Manila and get the affidavit in lieu of certificate to marry. It is so easy and quick.

But in your buddy's case that you mentioned he doesn't have the Original copy of the divorce decree, I wonder how did he able to get an affidavit to lieu marriage so as marriage license when him and his current wife went to US Embassy and in the civil registrar office to secure marriage license.

Either way, if he has this very substantial document, he should be fine processing the petition for her current wife. No need for annulment or whatsoever from his previous marriage to another filipina.

PhilippinesHome health agency in the Philippines

Home Health Nurses in USA are mainly LPN, which is a 1 year degree.

In Philippines they are many RN's who can't find work, and since the USA is in retrogression for RN's. It is taking about 7 years for a RN from PI to come to USA to work on a working Visa.

Probably not good way to make a living in PI

I understand where you're coming from. I have once thought about the massive population of nurses in the Philippines, yet.. if like the others said, if the agency would cater expats, or someone like tallcoolone which of course money is not a problem, it'll be prolly something to consider, but wait, I remember you have a lovely pinay wife/nurse to give you care.

And LPN is not a year program here in the states, its more and likely 18 months.

Thank you for the input though.

PhilippinesHome health agency in the Philippines

Interesting proposal you have.

I'm not quite sure how well a home health agency would be perceived in the Philippines. Presently, many post-op patients and/or their family hire nurses and physical therapists to come to the patient's home.
My brother-in-law, an RN, did some moonlighting while waiting for his employment interview. He was paid something like P150/shift.

I would imagine that a home health agency would be more expensive for the patient. If approved, PhilHealth would definitely increase their monthly costs for patients.
Patients would rather pay the health care workers directly, IMO.

However, if you're thinking about a private home health agency for foreigners/Fil-Ams/expatriates...that's a different story. This would definitely be an untapped resource.

Yeah, its going to be a rough road trying to get the paperwork reach the desk of a governor, (though considering my grandmother is a politician and she does have some buttons to push if we decided for this route)

In contrary, putting this up for well to do family in the NCR area would be more realizable. If we get to have a ties with their family doctors and give their patients the post care that they need, would give us more opportunity to get patients.

Cutie_PatootieFemalePhilippines2010-10-16 09:59:00
PhilippinesHome health agency in the Philippines
Good day fellas!

Last night, as I was cutting up with my mother in law, we happen to joke around about putting up a Home health agency in the Philippines.
She is a home health nurse and I will be soon become one. She would like to retire in my beautiful country but I told her the easiest way to avoid all kinda ####### is to marry a handsome, loving, caring, Filipino guy. (She is divorced).

So, I know even the thought of this business is more likely to be unreal, considering the fact that Philippines really doesn't have that complicated health care system that the gov't actually intervine,

This is how we compared the possible success of this business to the Philippines;

Here in the US, home health agencies;
  • get paid through Medecaid or Medicare for the ones who doesn't have personal insurance.
  • doctors put their patients in home health if they need continuous care outside of the hospital premises.
  • nurses go house to house to check on those patients
In the Philippines,

The government doesn't pay attention so much in the health care since you can just visit a doctor anytime you want since they have their clinics open all through out the week, BUT, of course, there are some of the patients who just get out of the hospital, or even unable to go to the doctor's clinic due to some unforeseeable circumstances, a home health care would be something to consider.

Ok, you might be wondering, who's to pay for the care of these people? The doctors would absolutely not,

Here's what we thought, Philippines have "PHILHEALTH" its the same thing as medicare in the United States. This pay for the people who are not able to pay the hospital bills and all that. In order for the business to kick in with the approval of the lowest form government that has the power to include this new health care system, we have to IF discuss this with the governor or a certain province to include this in his/her program. OR is there any way that we could bypass this route?

So, tell me about this plan guys. I would really appreciate your input on this.
