Ours took about 5 months. CSC is a lot faster. As long as you have no RFEs and you prepare your package for intreview as soon as possible, I think you would be fine, Of course, every situation is different. Good luck on your journey.

Hi everybody!
My name is Molly and I am from Grand Rapids, MI. My fiance, Steve, is from Windsor,ON. We became engaged in Aug,2010. We set a wedding date of Oct.1, 2011, but Im now wondering if we may have jumped the gun on this one. We mailed out I-129 a couple weeks ago and I received notification this week that they have received our application and it has been sent to California to be processed. Ive heard a lot of different answers on the processing time, from 5 months to 12 months. Im not sure what to expect.
Im just wondering what everyone's opinion is. Do you think that a wedding 9 months from now is pushing it?

At least you know they are working on your file. It is no big deal. Just send in the documents requested ASAP and you would be fine. Before you know it, you would get NOA2. Good luck on your journey.

Please DO NOT DO IT. You would have to start all over. You may have to refile for CR1.Our US Embassy would check to make sure that both of you are eligible to get married when your spouse arrives in the U.S.

I was at the Manila Embassy with my wife when she went to her interview. So many people were deneid the fiance visa for various reasons.

hello everyone! I hope someone can give me an expert opinion on this one on how to proceed. we have applied for k-1 visa almost 8 months ago and after waiting for months and months and months...we finally decided to have a church wedding in the philippines for religious and cultural reasons. After all wedding plans have been finalized (I'm getting married in June 4), the NOA2 arrives! Isn't that ironic? The thing you've been waiting for finally gets here and you don't know what to do with it now!

So my question is, is there a way to convert k-1 to k-3? if not should I just ignore this k-1 application and start I-130 after we get married? or will my k-1 visa somehow conflict and slow down my I-130 application?

Please help!!!

So after months of painful waiting we get an RFE! I'm so angry and upset right now as we used a recommended immigration lawyer to hopefully avoid stuff like this.

Preparing corporate tax does not take that long;if the client has all the required documents. I just finished doing 2 corporate tax returns last night in 3 hours. Since you have 10 days before the interview, the individual tax can be done as long as he has all the documents. As other people have said here, some embassies are already asking for 2011 tax return. <br />That chances that a girl from the Philippines, who has already applied for a K1 visa, would be granted a visiter visa to the US, is about 0%.<br /><br />She would have to show a permanent job there, own land, have super strong family ties, something to show without any doubt that she would return. Very very very hard for the average Filipina to do.<br /><br />Much easier for you to go there to visit, or just wait it out.<br />

Naturalization Applicants: you will receive your certificate at your oath ceremony. You can expect to be scheduled for an oath ceremony within 45 days of receiving your recommended approval. Many offices schedule approved applicants for the oath ceremony on the same day as the day of the interview. Please check the local office profile page on our website to determine if the office where you will be interviewed schedules same day oath ceremonies.

We had our interview in less than 5 months. Biometrics was done at The Van Nuys Office. Interview was at the Chatsworth office on June 6 and oath is on July 5. We filed the N-400 on January 28. Good luck



Per the USCIS website, the LA office is now processing N400 applications filed Nov 2011. Every field office is different, it could take 8 months or it could be faster to process your particular application.

I had my Bio May 17 and I'm still waiting to be placed in line for interview...

Congratulations. My wife will be at that same ceremony as well. Steve D is correct. From the Convention center to LAX is about 45 minutes(on the average) in the afternoon. I am assuming that the ceremony will not be over till about 4:00 p.m PLUS THE HEAVY AFTERNOON traffic in Los Angeles. It took me 1 hr from the convention center to LAX few weeks ago and I eft at 3:30. It all depends on traffic and it is unpredictable. I think you should cahnge your flight to after 6:00 p.m. or reschedule your oath date. Good luck







Well the 110 onramp is right next to the convention center so it won't take you that long to get on the freeway.

PROBLEM is, if you are in the afternoon, the 110 is going to be your worst enemy. I'd say in the WORST case it'll take you a minimum of 45 minutes to get to LAX via 110-105.

If it's tight, I'd reschedule one of them. Which one is more important? You be the judge.

It is true. They do check. My wife filed after 3 years in January and they checked everything. The application was well packaged. We did everything on our own. Thank you VISAJOURNEY community. An act of congress in 1927 ruled an immigrant married to a US citizen would be a far superior US citizen, so adopted the three year marriage privilege. And its just that, a privilege, not a requirement.

Years later, the INS was changed to the USCIS demanding tons of proof you are married, were free to marry, living together, paying taxes and bills together, buying joint property together, but only legal stuff, haven't figured out a way that both of you jointly purchased a new ten buck toaster, and indeed that US citizen is a US citizen.

So this documentation can be burdensome and is the key reason for RFE's with further delays.

Residency requirements is an entirely a different issue. Not only how long you were gone, but the reason why, be prepared to answer this. One good reason is getting work, have a son and a niece with these issues. Have college loans to pay off, and the odds of getting a job with over 2,000 applicants is minimal. And you sure can't pay off these loans working for Walmart. So they had to leave. Maybe that was your situation.

My wife attended the 12:30 p.m. Citizenship Oath Ceremony today, July 25,2012. I was very impressed. It started on time and ended at about 23:30 p.m. At least for us , we were done at about 2:30. We arrived at 10:30 a.m. and had plenty of time to park and get some snacks. Parking was $15. The following services were available to the new American Citizens.

1. Passport Services by USPS

2. Voter Registration by the Democratic and Republican Parties


3. Vendors selling all kinds of Patriotic items.



There were about 2753 people from 82 countries that attended the cermony. Mexico had the highest of about 675 and Philippines was second. No surprises there. Honorable Judge Ike from US District Central District was excellent in his remarks. I am proud to be an American. The service was well organised and security was A+++++. Thank you Honorable Judge.

I do not believe that San Bernadino has the same day Oath. 2 hours is necessary because she will have to wait for about 30-45 minutes on the average before they call her. Chedcking in itself may take 5-10 minutes. It just depends on how long the line is. My wife just went through the same process in Chatsworth, CA. Her appointment was at 10:15 and we were there till 12:30 p.m.


My wife is going to her citizenship interview tomorrow in San Bernardino, CA tomorrow (9/4/2012) and it states on her letter that she should expect to be there for 2 hours. I'm of the impression the actual interview takes all of 15-30 minutes if things go smoothly. So why the 2 hours? Does anyone know if this office does same day oath ceremonies? That would certainly explain the amount of time they take. I would greatly appreciate any comments. Thank you.

Hi Fellow January Filers,
We mailed my wife's N-400 on 1 /28/2012 to the Phoenix office. Our local office is Los Angeles. I tried to add our name to the list. I have done this before. For some reason, it was not working. Can somebody please add us to the January filers.

Well.... I am filing based on 5 years so mine is pretty much straightforward. Sooooooo.... I am sending in the following:
1. N-400 application filled out.
2. 2 passport size photos
3. Front and back copies of my GC,
4. Copy of my divorce decree.
5.A check of $680.00
6. G-1145 form (E-Notification of app)
7. Oooohhhhhh not to forget a cover letter that I'm attaching. (Coupled with tonnes of prayers :D)

That's it for me.

US Citizenship General DiscussionNotifying Social Security after naturalization
My spouse became a US citizen in late August. That same day , we applied for her US passport book and card. She got them within weeks. About 6 weeks after, we took the original Naturalization certificate to Social Security Office to let them know that she is now a US citizen. Within 10 days, we received a new card (same number) in the mail. It is as easy as that. Good Luck.

My spouse's oath ceremony is over and she is now US citizen. I have to notify social security administration that she is now US citizen (while we were at ceremony, no one from Social Security Administration was present). Is there a form that we have to fill out for this notification at local SS office? How long do we have to wait before we can notify Social Security administration? After notifying them, is my spose going to get a new social security card and number? She did NOT have her name changed....Anyone who recently had their spouse become US citizen, please let me know the process that you guys went thru...

Had a strange thing while checking my online status...

applied in April

interview in August and approved at the interview

my CRIS status did not change from Testing and Interview...

now when checking over the weekend it has gone to RFE...

the status states

"On November 14, 2012, we mailed a notice requesting initial evidence in this case. Please follow the instructions on the notice to submit the evidence requested. Meanwhile, processing of this case is on hold until we either receive the evidence or the opportunity to submit it expires. Once you submit the evidence requested and a decision is made, you will be notified by mail. If you move while this case is pending, please use our Change of Address online tool to update your case with your new address or call our customer service center at 1-800-375-5283."

It is less than 2 weeks away from the 120 days deadline.

is this a fluke... or has something dramatically changed?

Again, my application was approved at the interview.

I agree with you. It is sometimes confusing. You need to file form I-751 ASAP because you are now out of status. I-90 form is for replacement of green card. Good luck.

The nightmare ends after your permanent green card which would be good for 10 years if you choose not to be a US citizen. Yes, you would have to file form I-751 to lift conditions, submit some more documents and pay about $540. It is the American way lol. Do not feel bad, I have to do it for my wife in 18 months . After that, we would then file form N-400 for her to become a US citizen and that means more $$$$$. Have a great evening.
