Great to hear that you are enjoying San Diego. But don't catch all the fish! ;)

I never thought I would be staying in Oklahoma City! I grew up in Southern California and lived there most my life. In fact it's only recently that I stayed in other states for a long time.

That ad pretty much describes Oklahoma. Add a love for guns and that's pretty much it. laughing.gif

Visiting Alabama sounds very exciting! We are thinking about moving to Hawaii when we get older to be half way between Tokyo and LA. We can dream right? laughing.gif

Hey Yagisama, good to see you again!biggrin.png
We are loving San Diego more and more, as we have started fishing since last summer. So many fish to catch!

Oklahoma City!!
I have never been there, but in my mind, Oklahoma, and Kentucky remind me of the geico ad where the old McDonald says "COW..., Eieio. Dagnabbit!" Hehehe

My husband is from Alabama, and I love going back there~*
I think we will eventually move there when we get older, but for now, San Diego is our home, sweet home:)

Come back to California!!wink.png

Mailed our packet today 10/22:)
We only included a copy of the gc, our tax returns, and pictures... After seeing what you all included as evidence, I am already having a good feeling for getting a RFE;) hahaha
We will see!

Hi neko! How are you? Long time no see! How do you like living in California so far? I dagged my wife to Oklahoma City for a year but we're going back to California in a few months! energy.gif

I'm almost done putting together the packet and hopefully I will send it off sometime next week.

I'm going to send a copy of my passport too to show that her new passport has the same last name as mine and also to show that I visited Tokyo 16 times in the last 6 years. 16 trips in 6 years has got to show some sort of dedication right? laughing.gif

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionI-751 October 2013 Filers

October is right around the corner and no doubt us October filers have either already started putting our packets together or will be doing so shortly.

I've started gathering some of the relevant evidence and printed some for our application (bank records, signed leases, etc) and will continue working on it before next week.

Let's use this thread for any questions regarding the application process and the gathering of evidence.

Hopefully we can all go through this process smoothly. Below is the standard template used by other threads to keep track of  progress.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsPetitioner attending interview at Embassy?

I've made a few posts about this topic in the past. I attended the interview along with my wife at the Embassy in Tokyo.

The interview was very short and the interviewer called me and asked me some questions as well, so I definitely participated in the interview process.

Considering one of the two requirements for the K-1 visa was having met in the last two years, it made things much easier. We were given the approval right away and got the visa two days later.

Here is my Tokyo Embassy Review:

April 20, 2011 Embassy Review : We arrived at 7:30 for our 8:30 interview.
We were let inside at 8:00.
We emptied the contents of our pockets into baskets and went through metal detectors. We didn't have any electronics with us so we didn't have to leave anything with the staff. The staff was extremely polite and the experience was very easy.
We were greeted by someone at the front desk. She gave us a folder with instructions specifying what order to put our documents.
We went in and got a number (#001). When called we gave the packet.
I definitely overdid my I-134 docs since it felt more like I was trying to support 10 people!! (50+ paystubs, tax transcripts for 4 years, etc)
About 10 minutes later, we were called again and my fiancee had to give fingerprints. Then they gave a bulk of my I-134 docs back.
About 30 minutes later, we were called again and we had the interview. I knew I wasn't allowed to do the interview with her but I went up anyway. The CO told me to go back and he would call me if he had any questions.
He asked her the following:
What's your fiance's name?
How and when did you two meet?
Does he have any siblings?
What is his job and where does he work.
Then he called me up and asked me about my work. He asked when will we get married and I answered.

He had commented that since I visited Japan 10 times I probably spoke better Japanese than he does!

Then he said "Congratulations, your visa is approved." It took me a couple seconds to understand what that really meant but after that I had a giant smile!! :energy:

We left the Embassy about 9:30am. Overall a very straightforward and easy experience! We got the visa two days after our interview! smile.gif

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionI-751 evidence

I opted not to post my list of evidence until I had been approved. But since I got a (very quick) approval last night, I will now post my list of evidence in hopes that it will help other people filing now or in the future. So here is what we included in our joint filing:

-A signed (but not notarized) affidavit from both of us detailing our relationship and married life to date

-Copy of our current lease for our apartment with both names on

-Sworn statement from my mother in law confirming that we lived with her in her house on our first year in the US (my husband and I had been living in the UK for 4 years prior to moving to the US), explaining that both the house and utilities are in her name, which would explain the lack of evidence in our names during that time period
-Copy of our lease renewal for the apartment we used to rent in London with both names on, showing that we leased and occupied it since 2008 and until we moved to the USA in 2011

-Copies of joint utilities (AT&T phone and Internet, and So Cal Gas) from the time we moved into our leased apartment

-Copies of bank statements showing joint checking and savings account - one for each quarter starting from the time I was added to those accounts shortly after we got married. We included the full statements and not just the first page, showing payments, deposits, withdrawals, husband's salary going into the joint account etc. etc.

-Copies of credit card statements, one for each quarter since I was added to the card after our move to the US in 2011

-Copies of our actual credit cards showing the same card number

-Copy of car ownership title, jointly owned

-Copy of our most recent car registration showing joint ownership to date

-IRS transcripts for 2011 joint return and a simple photocopy of our 2012 joint return as we had just filed at the time of sending in the ROC package (I also forgot to include husband's W2 and was wondering if they would send an RFE for that, but nope no0pb.gif )

-Copies of joint car insurance bills in both names and showing common address, one for each quarter since we moved to the US

-Copy of a 2010 tax return filed from the UK, reporting a joint savings account that we used to maintain in the UK while living there to the IRS

-Copy of my business registration certificate, where my husband is listed as a co-owner

-Letter from the bank where we maintain our business account confirming the existence of a business account in both names and that date when it was opened

-Copies of bills from our health & dental insurance provider billed to the business, through which we both obtain our coverage (bills show both names as co-insured under the business, and same registration number) - one for each quarter since we started our health coverage

-Four affidavits - two from family, two from friends (all but one notarized) - attesting to the legitimacy of our marriage

Also, as additional (but more secondary) evidence, we included:

-Copy of marriage certificate

-Copies of the change of address forms we filed with USCIS after moving to our current apartment, showing that both of us had filed for the change and showing a common address

-Copy of husband's Emergency Contact Form from his employer, listing me as his primary emergency contact

-Copies of a few of husband's recent pay stubs stating his filing and allowance status as "Married"

-Copies of flights and/or hotel bookings for vacation we've taken together since we got married, showing both names

-Copies of cards/letters sent and addressed to both of us from family and friends since we got married

-Since we had two weddings (one in LA and one in Athens, Greece a couple months later) we included some evidence from both of those: copies of the invitations we sent out for each wedding, copy of our wedding program from the LA wedding, proof of a cruise booking to the Greek islands which was our honeymoon after the wedding in Greece, copy of the magazine distributed on the cruise ship listing our names among others' as "honeymooners", "congratulations" etc. good.gif , and copies of a few cards given to us by family and friends on our wedding

-About 30-35 pictures spanning the entire time from our wedding and until present time, some with the two of us alone, some with family or friends, each taken at different times and places. We included a few pictures from both weddings and also pictures from my sister in law's wedding last year where my husband was one of the grooms men and I was a bridesmaid.

Good luck to everybody!

If you want to assemble your case the way USCIS recommends you shoud read this :

basically it's two-hole punch ON TOP side of all papers and ACCO fasteners, no paperclips, no binders or folders.

biometrics codes (can be found on your biometrics appointment letter)

Code 1 = All 10 fingerprints
Code 2 = index fingerprint, signature, picture (used to make the Green card and EAD)
Code 3 = All 10 fingerprints, and also index fingerprint, signature, picture.

most of people get code 2 then one or more code 1 (like myself)

Philippinesearly worries

Very early in the process (still compiling I-129F package) I have some concerns about visa approval that I'm hoping will be unfounded!
1. Fast courtship- we met in March and I proposed in June on my first visit to Manila
2. Almost no phone records and no regular mail- we communicated almost exclusively online
3. Multiple marriages- I've been married twice

Will this stuff weigh heavily against us?

Well, you are going to have about seven months to get phone records and regular mail. You have enough for the original petition in that you have met within the last two years and are engaged. I visited once more while our petition was in process and took LOTS of pictures.

PhilippinesWhat time do 7:30 interviews in Manila usually get done ??
Hi CountryBoy,

Mharis had her interview June 5 at 7:30 and was told at noon to come back after lunch. She ran back to the Bayview to text me that things were going fine. She then was interviewed and I got the news at 2 or 3 PM Manila time.

Doesn't sound like over-reacting to me. At least it sounds like how I was acting.

PhilippinesHelp me explain something
Thanks everyone. We already have a visa. I've shared the story about the wife who has the ten year ban with her already. I'll just have to insist on this one. If she insists on the ceremony, we'll just turn around and do a K3 visa. There is no way I would ever commit visa fraud after all the trouble doing this has been.

Thanks for everyone's comments. Best case scenario we will have an engagement party.

PhilippinesHelp me explain something
My fiance and I are going to have a non-binding ceremony in the Philippines before she comes to the US.
I thought we were clear about what would happen at that ceremony. She wants to have our ninongs and ninangs and us sign the marriage certificate. She says it is such an important symbolic part of the ceremony and no one would understand if we don't do it. She says since we won't have a marriage license nor will I have a certificate of legal capacity to marriage (I also will not have been there for the required 10 days) that signing a marriage certificate won't carry any legal weight. I am refusing. She is upset. I'm not going to budge on this issue, but can someone help me explain it to her better than I seem to be doing? I think signing a marriage certificate comes too close to making it legal. Any ideas are appreciated!!!!!

Thanks so much.

Hi everyone. I'm here in the Philippines having a wonderful time before flying back home on Saturday. It's great to be reunited. The waiting is so worthwhile. Things have been busy, lots of shopping, packing, visiting, etc. as we prepare for our new lives together. Couldn't be happier although will be glad to get back to reliable plumbing and a comfortable mattress.

Just a few items left to get. Luz, I went with with Georgio Armani Gio. There will be a big engagement celebration with family and friends August 4. Later that day we'll get on the plane and fly to Los Angeles. The wedding will take place August 6 with around 30 guests. Mharis isn't a big rice eater, go figure, but I have a rice cooker just in case. The nicest thing is that I won't have to go back to work for three weeks once she gets here. That gives us lots of time for me to help her adjust.

Thanks for all the good thoughts and suggestions.

Mae, congratulations, enjoy the day, and we want pics!! Mharis and I are so happy for you. I'm sure somehow, someday our paths will cross. Beckpua, thanks for the tips. We have a SuperSeafood right around here and are getting the Philippine channels on cable and I'll check on the tree. I'm going back to work on my list now of things to do, which keeps getting longer instead of shorter!

Just a few more days until I fly to Manila. The place is almost ready. New carpets on Monday. 20 years of closets and drawers clean out and ready for her to move in. Candles. Step-stool for the kitchen. I planted some geraniums in the back yard. New bedspread (pink!) from Simply Shabby Chic at Target. I'm almost good to go.

No questions. I'm just happy.

PhilippinesL.A. as POE
Mharis and I entered the US through Los Angeles on August 4. We went through immigration together and had a pleasant experience. The officer was exceptionally considerate of my fiancee and after a few questions, welcomed her to the United States. The baggage area was very crowded though and it took over an hour to get our bags and to pass through customs on our way outside.

Fill out the ROC form in the name you want on the GC--I.E. your married name. The marriage certificate is the form they will use to make the name change. You have one last chance to do a name change for free and that is at the naturalization stage.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionGeneral FAQ's for Removing Conditions
Hi everyone,

Just a quick question, if you don't mind:

I (er, we) will be filing our I-751 in the next month or so (as my CR expires early March of next year). My green card and our marriage certificate are in my maiden name (married in Quebec where a name change takes ages) however all of my US identification (SSN, driver's license, pay stubs, loans, etc.) show my married name.

Which name should I put in Part 1 if I'd like my green card (permanent resident) to be under my married name going forward? Is there an additional form I'll need or fee I'll need to pay?

Thanks so much.

Looks like first time in history vermont center is ahead of california...but at least we're beginning to see some movements over in california as well. Do you know if any of the July and August filers received an RFE?

Thanks,

We've received our NOA1 letter in the mail today dated 10/01. :-)

Same thing happened to us. Thats when they look at the application. I wouldn't be worried about the time table for that. We got ours back a week after we mailed it next day.

Got it. Thanks bregan!

Hi All,

I just saw this morning that CSC cashed our check today (2 days after our application got delivered) but I haven't received the NOA letter yet. Is that normal that they cash the check first?

Best,

Dani and Rey
