What are you options for POE is what he is asking. There are lots of airports that you can come to for POE. What are YOU thinking in terms of your flight itinerary/plan?

I noticed you're from Ireland.. Why not POE in Dublin? Then, wherever the flight first arrives in the US will be considered a domestic flight arrival.

Please share opinions on how much time is reasonable to leave between the 2 connecting flights if POE is not the immigrant's final destination. Does it depend on the airport or visa type? Or the mood of the officer :blush:

CR-1 *after* 2yr wedding anniversary..

If you arrive after the 2 year anniversary, you get a ten year greencard rather than a 2 year conditional one. That means you save money and hassle two years later, as you do not have to file for ROC (removal of conditions).

Once you arrive in the USA, your SSN (if you checked the relevant box on the paperwork) and greencard will be sent to you in a few weeks. There is nothing visa related you need to do after POE (where you will have your fingerprints taken and hand over the Mysterious Brown Envelope), but if you are keen to get your SSN asap, you can go to the office for that about two weeks after arrival. Next step is ROC if you have a CR-1 (2 years minus 90 days after you arrive) or naturalisation- if you choose- 3 years after you arrive if on a IR-1.

wrong green card category received

hi, i received my green card today after 3 weeks of waiting.
NVC approved my petition having a CR1 status but at the port of entry the officer have found out that we have been married for 5 years that's why he upgraded my category to IR1 and stamp my passport with IR1 and told me that i will have a IR1 resident card but the card that was delivered to me was CR1?
what do you think i can do about this? can they change my card category to IR1 if i will call USCIS?

If you had been married for 5 years at POE that means you had been married for over 4 years when your visa was issued(assuming you did use the visa within the original 6 months validity)so why were you issued CR1 in the firstplace?? :huh:

I see so when its time for the DS-230 and AOS thats the IV Bill and such. I got the $325 off the I-169 Instructions for Immigrant Visa application.It's the checklist you send in with the DS-230 when you get all your required information and you send in to get your interview appointment. I assume that's part of the packet you get back form the NVC.

Is this an old form? There's so many out there now I just want to make sure. I guess once you send in your I-130 packet of stuff you just follow along what the USCIS and NVC send to you.

Also just wondering is it better to have all information sent to the US citizen and you send to spouse/fiance' or have the USCIS send directly to them? Nigerian mail is the worst at least postal service. We have letters ad cards we sent to each other when we first dated that never have arrived. I had cards once that arrived 6 months later. So much for that proof. (srry I digress . Thanks for the info. Sorry to be such a chatty Kathy but so thrilled to be with people who know the way and willing to help. I am so grateful.

Have you read the GUIDES at the top of the page? That might be a good place to start to give you a feel of the flow of events.

Per form 169, I didnt have to fill anything that and I went through the IR1/CR1 process. The fees I quoted earlier is the latest from the department of state website.

When it gets to the stage of sending correspondence, you will fill out a form DS3032, and there the beneficiary will state whether he wants to be getting the correspondence or he can choose you as 'the agent', and have you receive all correspondence. These days most people go by email instead of receiving actual paper mail. In our own case as soon as we got to the NVC stage, we registered our emails and we both receive email correspondence and print them out. Trust me I know how Nigerian postal service is, and I wont ask you to rely entirely on that in communicating with the agencies.

Another advice, any question you have that is specific to Nigeria can be posted in African Sub Saharan forum and people with relevant experiences will be able to give info specific to your circumstance.

Not sure where you got that DS230 amount from. As far as I know the IV Bill is what you pay for the DS230. So take 325 out of your calculation, relieved? :blush:

Expectation for CR-1 using US-based I-130 should be about 5 months MAX

I believe OP is asking for a time estimate from I-130 filing to Interview which is waaaay more than 5 months. The I-130 approval takes about 5 months in USCIS, then goes on to NVC which can range from 3 weeks to 3months+ depending on how quickly the applicants respond to requests and the accuracy of submitted documents. THEN the application finally goes to Lagos. Scheduling of the interview date depends on how busy the embassy is.

I dont have a precise estimate but we are looking at 8-12 months, all things going well.

1-130 approved! What to do now.

Hi everybody, me and my husbands I-130 with a notice day on march 6th was finally approved on june 13th. Thank you for all the valuable help so far! I have looked around trying to understand the NVC journey but have not understood really how to do. Ive understood that we are going to call to get a case number in a couple of weeks. But when we have that, then what? Do we have to wait to get something from NVC or can we start filing on our own? Would love some information of what to file and how to do it.

pending how fast they do my RFE she said I should have August Interview

How to get original documents returned?

There is a form letter you can send to USCIS requesting the return of your originals. You will have to send another set of originals to NVC. I made the mistake of sending all our certified originals to USCIS
and I had to get certified originals again for NVC.

Did you sign the second part of your DS-230 on your interview date? If yes, then they'll start processing on receipt of the additional doument and I'd give it a week to receive the packet. If you didnt sign, you will get a call to come in and sign the form, then you'll receive the packet after about a week of signing.

Cases vary so all these are just estimates based on previous experience...

The officer meant that the stamp on your visa will serve as a temporary green card for the next one year pending the time that the real card arrives. Dont worry, all things going well, your physical green card should arrive in 30days or there abouts and should be good for 10yrs!

I had the originals in my own pack and didnt put anything (marriage and death cert in my own case) in the childrens pack and this was ok with NVC. It should be ok since I assume you'll be posting everything in one package? Thats what I did. Good luck!

Visiting the US while CR-1 in process

I've travelled to the US several times while I-130 pending and after the approval, I wasnt denied entry. Always truthful about being in the immigration process and my final plans to migrate to the US, but I always explain that each visit is just that, A VISIT. never being asked for further proof, but I always had plenty to show just in case.
