CanadaK1 Visa Last Minute Vaccination Question

As everyone has said above, you need to have it every 10 years.

CanadaK1 Visa Last Minute Vaccination Question

The vaccines you need for your age group are:

MMR - it takes two shots to complete the series. They must be spaced 1 month apart. If you grew up in Canada you will probably have at least one shot already, if not both.

Varicella - it takes two shots to complete the series. If you have had Chickenpox, you only need to supply the year you had it. Otherwise, you need to have a blood test done to prove that you are NOT immune PRIOR to getting the shots. The health unit has Varicella, I was not able to get the shot at the travel unit.

Tdap - it MUST be Tdap NOT Td. This shot is good for 10 years and can easily be found at the health unit.

Flu shot - You do not need to have this if your interview is on wednesday.

Good luck!

Note: Flu shot is based on Flu season which I believe is October to February/March (not sure but you get the idea)

You didn't list passport photos. I made 2 copies of my birth certificate, but they never asked for it. Better to be overprepared than underprepared I guess!

Otherwise I didn't notice anything.

Good luck!

CanadaCan I slowly move my belongings to the US

You're not supposed to move your belongings until you have your visa in hand. You can continue to move your belongings up to 10 years after you move to the US.

You can get your driver's license when once you get your EAD. You just have to renew it after 1 year and by then you should have your green card!

Yeah, you should really fear the government agencies here! Actually the DMV has been the easiest I've had to deal with here. Losing the renewal was unfortunate but I went in and renewed it today with no problems (aside from waiting 2.5 hours lol)

CanadaThe Vent Part Quatre

Applied for my license renewal at the end of January. In California it takes "up to 60 days" and you can't check the status for 6 weeks. Okay, fine. So I call today because my license expires on the 27th. "We have no record of receiving any renewal paperwork..."

Seriously?

CanadaWhen did you quit your jobs ?

I was approved in October. I'd told my employers I was in the process of getting my visa. I had been with the company over 3 years and was in a management position so I didn't want to screw them over. I didn't POE until February because I was waiting for my husband to get another job. Once he had once I gave them 3 weeks notice and peace'd the hell out!

Commissionaires.

I agree. I tried having it done at the police station but they wouldn't help me. Apparently the guy couldn't leave his desk until someone got back from lunch..? What a joke. Commissionaires was fast and easy.

CanadaDon't have a bank statement saying the stuff for I134

You'd mainly need the supporting documents from the co-sponsor. If anything they will just request the documents prior to issuing the visa.

CanadaW-9 form

Weird - I never did this. Though when we went to apply for a mortgage the credit bureaus didn't have my credit score on file, and neither did the bank that I had a visa card with. Of course, that was until they denied us for no credit rating then a week later it miraculously showed up!

dukeandduchessFemaleCanada2013-12-01 14:31:00
CanadaWhat if I get laid off before our interview?

It doesnt matter at the interview. Canada allows for joint sponsors. My husband was going to school when we applied. We used my FIL as a joint sponsor (husband was working part-time at 9.50$ at the time of my interview). They never said anything or asked about finances.

dukeandduchessFemaleCanada2013-12-31 18:03:00
CanadaWhat if I get laid off before our interview?

Depends on your income. If you have one parent that makes above the poverty limit for the size of household (In this case: you + fiancee + themself + any other people living in the household) then you only need one person to fill it out. If not, their combined income must support the entire household and they both must fill out the form.

CanadaImmunizations REQUIRED for Medical/Immigrating?

Varicella was free for me. I got it done at the health unit. I had to get the blood test first though ... doctor nearly fell out of her chair when I asked for it and said, "are you SURE you haven't had chicken pox before?" Uh yeah... haha :)

dukeandduchessFemaleCanada2014-07-19 23:13:00
CanadaImmunizations REQUIRED for Medical/Immigrating?

Get the Vaccines at the local health unit. I had to have Tdap done at a travel clinic. MMR should be free of charge.

You should be aware that MMR requires two doses given one month apart to complete the series.

Required vaccines generally are MMR, Tdap (NOT Td), Varicella, and Flu (if medical is between Oct and Mar) from what I remember.

CanadaGetting a california DL

You can study for the written test using the guidebook. It's online at the DMV website:

http://apps.dmv.ca.g...andbook_toc.htm

I skimmed through it twice and passed on the first try. Most laws here are the same as they are in Canada, so mainly common sense, but the wording on the test can be tricky.

dukeandduchessFemaleCanada2014-07-11 18:05:00
CanadaGetting a california DL

I got my license at the Long Beach, CA DMV. I did not have a license from Canada at the time so I did have to take the written test - I'm not sure if you would have to take it considering you have a valid license. The driving test was simple. It took about 15 minutes - drive on busy street, drive in housing tract, drive in school zone, reverse 50 feet along a curb, drive back to DMV and park. Nothing to worry about!

The only problem I had with the DMV was when it came to renewing my license. They mailed me some paperwork to send back to them, which I did with plenty of time to spare. I never heard anything and eventually called a few weeks before it expired and they claim they never received it. I just had to go into the DMV and renew in person, which wasn't bad aside for the wait (no appointments available!)

CanadaTracking visits to the US?

Weird the link didn't work for you... Anyway, I just sent an email with the attachment of the file instead. It's safe to open, I swear ;)

And I'm not sure about the cruise ship thing. You might want to just include a paragraph about it below on the supplemental sheet, stating the average time he usually spends at the ports, how long in between going back to Canada and coming back to the US to work on the cruise ships, and how long he's been doing this. I assume he had to still go through US customs, right? If so, make sure you include a statement in the paragraph that each time he's come to the US that he was inspected by a US Customs officer.

You could always try calling up NVC and asking about this, or creating a separate thread about it.

Thank you soo much! I did receive it. I'm at work and a lot of stuff gets blocked here so that is probably why the link did not work. I could probably open it at home but it's better to have a file I can copy and paste from.

I'm going to start drafting the paragraph to explain the cruise ship contract situation. I'm just relieved we can explain things this way. My poor fiance was freaking out last night trying to construct all his visits. He's 54 years old and always lived near the border, so you can only imagine the number of times he's crossed besides the trips for his job. I told him I would work on something based on advice I could get here. He was glad to let me help!

Thanks again!

CanadaTracking visits to the US?

I think most Canadians have that problem. Here's the supplemental sheet I made for my process: https://docs.google....id.26d497d460f3

We're in the process now of filling this out. Living near Vancouver he's visited numerous times. Also he passes through to join cruise ships in US ports to go to work. He did not have a visa as the ships are foreign flagged so he is not working IN the US, just from a port in the US. We're struggling how to list this. He's been doing this job for over 20 years.

I tried to open your link to see your example but it is not working for me. Could you possibly email it to me at sk8rpatty3@yahoo.com ?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Thanks!

CanadaDS 156 vs DS 160 vs My Head Exploding!

You go to the website, and fill it out. Not sure how it's confusing. You do not need DS-160. This is the link to the website to book your interview:

http://usvisa-info.c...country_welcome

You click create account.

It asks if you have created your account/paid your fee. Click no if you haven't. Fill out the information.

I can't go past that screen, but as far as I recall, it asks you for your case number and a few other things then it will let you book the interview.

We should be receiving P3 very soon so I'll be watching how this unfolds. I'll let you know if anything has changed in the P3 istructions. I know it hasn't on the consulate web site

CanadaMedical exam and interview

Packet 4 doesn't contain very much information. Basically I booked my interview date then emailed Dr.Cheema's office (the phone # is a answering machine only) & told them my interview date. They emailed me back with prefer date & then told me my date choices. They are very easy to communicate with, very friendly staff.

I had my medical on Aug 29 & my interview today. Both went very well, visa approved. Expect visa in 3-5 business days thru Loomis/DHL.

Thanks for the info and....CONGRATULATIONS!!!

CanadaPersonal Question RE: DUI and Driving to the US from Canada

Don't have a specific answer to your question, but I just wanted to voice my sympathy for the frustration. My dad being unable to cross the border prevented both of my parents from attending my wedding, visiting since I moved, and will likely prevent them from being able to see the new home my husband and I are in the process of purchasing. Mom's fear of traveling alone and my dad's inability to explain WHY he can't cross are incredibly frustrating.

I feel your pain.

Sounds exactly like my situation. Thanks for your support. It's very difficult to deal with and I wish he would just swallow his pride for once. I personally think it'd be more embarrassing to be refused entry at the border! I'm also scared he won't make it to the wedding. We are not particularly close due to his choices and attitude but it affects my Mom and it breaks my heart.

If you ever feel like talking feel free to pm me :)
