National Visa Center (Dept of State)How long does it take NVC to review and complete IR1 case

I just called them to see if my sons case is completed after sending back the RFE which they have had for 2 weeks now and was told they or back logged..call back in 6 weeks Because they need to review it before they can tell me the status.. the girl said they got double the amount of application and are behind.

You need to wait approximately 7 weeks to hear back from them. It will pick up the speed as we pass through summer vacation. Mostly people are out on vacation during this time, and due to incoming visitors and people leaving U.S. they tend to slow down to make sure they have economic spending to support govt.

National Visa Center (Dept of State)How long does it take NVC to review and complete IR1 case
Anything that was sent in prior to June 16th was processed in 4-6 weeks although was processed in 8-10 business days, anything that was sent in or received after June 16th, would take 6-8 weeks and i am in my 7th week, so looking forward to it.

Additionally, it also depends if you are filing the IR-1 for spouse for relative such as brother and sisters. They go by priority dates, while Spouse visa go by internal date.

Hello, I sent my AOS on June 16th and it was in AVS by June 21st, then I sent my IV Packet on July 7th and it was in AVS by July 16th. Now they asked us to wait 6-8 weeks for both as they are worked simultaneously. I am still hoping SIF in Aug.

Seems like the passport waiting estimates are overly inflated. I applied for my passport (in the US) regular processing and got it within 10 days (today!) Estimates said 4-6 weeks for regular.

US Citizenship General DiscussionQuality Review by USCIS, Have any of you heard that before?

They might be just re-reviewing why was there a delay in your case. I'm speculating that you might have been given final approval during your first interview but you still had to wait this long, and needed congressional inquiry to find out you were approved, so they were seeing what errors they may have done to cause the delay.

US Citizenship General DiscussionApplication Denied a day before Oath Ceremony. No notices received.

Just my 2 cents.

I've been living in the US for almost 20 years, my son grew up here (wasn't born here though) - and we have never even heard of selective services before he graduated from high school and applied for FAFSA. That's when we've got a letter in the mail stating he had to register - otherwise no money for college. So he did.

I don't find it weird or not-believable that OP forgot/didn't know about SS registration.

However, (sorry, can't find an English equivalent): ???????? ?????? ?? ??????????? ?? ???????????????. Chances his appeal will be granted are slim.

I agree with you, the only reason I signed up for selective services is because I had to apply for FAFSA. If not, I would've not done it out of ignorance.

Congrats to all the newly approved and naturalized December filers! I peeked at the forum to see how it's going since it's been a couple of weeks since I visited and I was happy to see that this thread is still pretty active!

Since getting naturalized, I quit my job and now I'm backpacking throughout the world! Mostly in Europe so far. My new passport already has 12 stamps and I've been to 17 countries so far!! I'm enjoying the freedom of traveling my new passport has given me :) Cheers guys!

hi, i've been reading your posts coz im from long island too. I just want to ask if you know if I can bring my kids at the oath taking ceremony? and how long does it lasts? my sched is 830 am too. thanks..

Lots of people bring their kids to the ceremony. It's better if there's someone else to accompany them because they won't be allowed to sit with you throughout the whole thing. It took 3 hours for me total. 830am in, and I was out 11:30am. Good luck!

US Citizenship General DiscussionN-400 December 2013 Filers

Hey Guys! Just updating, I finally took the oath on May 27th! So happy to be a US citizen!

Didn't really tell a lot of people about it since I didn't wanna make a big deal out of it but I told the wrong 3 people because after that, it was all over facebook. I was overwhelmed with lots of love and support! :) I love that everyone's reaction so far have been "You mean, you haven't been a citizen this whole time?!?!" haha

I had mine at Federal District Court in Central Islip, NY. After going through metal detector, I had to check in my phone. It was on the second floor. I was greeted by 2 USCIS officers who are checking the Oath Letters and making sure they were filled out, and that you have your green card with you. Then I was seated in order of arrival. There were so many late comers that was admitted even though they arrived 1 hour after the scheduled time. First, they go row-by-row to submit your Oath Letter and they ask you if there's been any changes. The lady next to me had trouble answering a simple yes-and-no question so there was a 20 minute delay because the officer had to pull her aside and talk to her. She ended up not completing the ceremony and probably had to go back to be re-interviewed. After you surrender your green card, you're told to go to either Line 1 or 2 depending on which Court Clerk has your Naturalization Certificate. She will then show you your certificate and you have to ensure correct info and sign it. I was confused because they told us prior to sign it legibly with our new name (if you had a name change like I did) but it also has to match the signature on the photo. I signed the photo like the way I sign it now (not totally legible) and the lady just said sign it so I didn't want the form to have 2 different signatures so I signed it my original (not legible) signature, which hasn't given me problems (yet!, hopefully never!) Then we get seated again. Then the judge arrives to administer the oath. She also gives a speech, which I thought was too drawn out because she had to call up each country that was represented in the ceremony. There were 50 countries. That took an hour! Then afterwards, the certificates were handed out individually by the judge. After that, that was it! :)

I then drove to the DMV to have my license name/registration/car title updated (with my new name) and ran out of time to get passport. Applied for my passport on the 28th of May and 10 days later (today, June 7th) I got my passport and Certificate+Court order name change document. I am totally surprised on how quick this came (10 days!) because I didn't pay for expedited processing. I just finished applying for Global Entry. Now I just need to update my SS card and banks.

Good luck to all December applicants, hopefully the end of the journey is near! Cheers to all my fellow new citizens! Thanks for all your support during this stressful waiting game.

Yes, they went through my application line by line.

If you read my subsequent posts after that, I shared some of the reasons why applicants get arrested during the interview. :)

Jcarlo, just curious.  Did you apply for your citizenship based on 3 year of 5 year eligibility?

Congratulations jcarlo! Good to know the lay of the land at the Holtsville office. Two quick questions. Did he say anything about being able to get an oath ceremony letter the same day? And I am curious what people actually get arrested for?! Thanks!

On the paper handed to me when I finished the interview, there was a portion at the bottom to fill out the time to return to receive oath letter, so I'm assuming there's a way to get it on the same day. The USCIS center is huge, there were several huge auditoriums that I saw on the way in/out that looks like something for oath taking, etc., so it's plausible they hold it there too. I didn't ask the IO about it only because I was in a real hurry to get to school for my other exam!

I actually asked the IO about the arrest thing he told me, he says usually there'll be people who have warrants for their arrests that show up on the background check so they arrest them there; sometimes people are found to be married in other countries; he's seen people have others use their green card to travel abroad and use the ID when they get in trouble with the law overseas.

I had my interview this morning at Holtsville USCIS center. The office was huge, but parking aplenty. Give 5 minutes for airport-style security. They opened 10 minutes before 7am and I arrived 6:53 for my 7am interview. Handed my interview letter at exactly 7am. I waited 20-25 minutes and I was the 3rd person called in. I had a courteous, friendly gentleman and he obviously reviewed my file already because he asked how was my drive from my town etc. We chatted for a bit while we walked to his office. Before sitting down, he asked me to raise my right hand and swear to tell the truth, in which I said yes. Told me to say "Columbus day is in October", and I wrote down "Columbus day is October 25th". We asked me 6 questions: "Who succeeds if president and VP are incapable?", "What did declaration of independence do?", "How many years are senators elected for?", "Name a branch of the government", "What does the cabinet do?", "How many justices are there?". Then he reviewed my application, asked me to sign a couple of papers including my name-change file. He knew I worked at a nearby hospital and asked if I had work today to which I said yes to. He said that the interview should be over shortly. He reiterated a couple of questions from the application, and he checked everything really quickly. Then he started saying that 1-2 usually fail the exam everyday, once a month someone gets arrested during the interview. I asked for what, and he gave me several examples on why they would arrest someone. I was thinking in my head why is he telling me this?!" haha. He then compiled all the application and put it back in the folder. He saw that I had my IRS paperwork with me and he said that I won't even need it since he already reviewed them all previously. I saw him stamp a big "APPROVED" in front of the application and signed it. He handed me N-652 and checked "You passed the test of English and US history & government", and "A) ___ Congratulations. Your application has been recommended for approval."

He then said that was it, and walked me to the exit. He said to wait for the oath ceremony paper which should come in 3 weeks.

I'm happy to pass the interview and hoping to finish my journey soon!

Also, I made it to my exam at 8am right on time!
