US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionLetter of Readiness...
Hi...

Our case was received in London last week, and apart from scheduling the medical-we are 100% ready with regard to required docs.

Should I send London a ds-2001, or do they generate that for a CR1?

Also, when would be a good time to send them a personal letter via e-mail with our intent to proceed and that we have all we need on hand to proceed?

Thanks in advance. I haven't seen many CR1's going through there lately, and would be grateful for any info.

Rose

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionLondon Does Not Have Case Yet???
Hi....

I e-mailed London last week regarding hubby's case. I explained that we are ready to proceed and asked for an interview date...
Today, London gets back to me and tells me that there is no record of hubby's case ! They mention however, that it takes 3-4 weeks to process it....

It was sent out of NVC on May 31...and looks like London rec'd it on June 3 from DHL tracking.

Should I be concerned, or is this standard operating procedure?

Thanks...

US Embassy and Consulate Discussionok...stupid, stupid question...
Hi Sandra...

No worries...
There are 2 envelopes. One is nested within the other. The first one that you can indeed open is the one containing your passport.

The one that is not to be opened will say "Do not open" and will contain the visa and such for your arrival at POE.

It does make your head spin a bit...and it's easy to get confused-no question pertaining to this process is a stupid one.

I wish you well in your new life here.

Hi,

I read your other post, and I am SO glad he got there...

I don't know all the 'in"s and "out"s with a K1, as we did a CR1, but I wonder-can you not get the vaccines done at a civil surgeon in the states when you adjust status ?

Surely, someone with K1 experience here can clarify this ...

Hi...

Just allow for a bit more time before deciding. The worst thing would be if you e-mailed them and he did arrive there...

I know you are probably full of anxiety at the moment, but you should remember to breathe, and take it hour by hour-today is a new day and many things will occur in the course of it.
I would wait it out some more, and just let things fall into the places they will.

If you must contact the consular, do it by phone, so you can actually speak with a human being-and back it up with an e-mail for a hard copy. Make sure to include in your correspondence that this is a simply a follow up to your call. Include the time you phoned and with whom you spoke with on the phone and their position at the consular.

Good luck...and fingers crossed for you that you will hear from him today, and that he has made it far in his travels.

: )

Hi there-

Take a deep breath...it will be Ok. You will hear from him soon.

Many reasons why you may not have heard-pehaps no pay phone or line to phone you-or he was simply unable to place the call due to time constraints during his travel.
Don't worry. It'll be OK. He WILL phone.

I am a therapist too. Skip the deep tissues today and just go with swedish for your patients-too much physical/emotional energy that you will have to put forth, with DT, and today just may not be a good day to do that...and get treated yourself today if possible. : )

Best Wishes & Do Not Fear !

Europe & Eurasia (except the UK and Russia)Some Questions re: Embassy in Paris, and Packet 3
This is the thing he got that he mentioned, with sensitive info blacked out. Basically, from what he's told me, if he had any arrests or anything they'd be listed where the diagonal line crosses that space out. Is this the thing he needs for the police certificate, or does he need something else?

What did your fiance do for the French police certificate? Oh nevermind, I'll just tell my fiance to post here to ask you about it, his VJ username is Stclair. My fiance's scanning on the documents for me to see.

Complete and return immediately the enclosed form OF-230 PART 1, APPLICATION FOR IMMIGRANT VISA [word cut off]ALIEN REGISTRATION (biograpic data). This office cannot process your case until this form is recieved.

I guess it's the checklist and the... umm... is the OF-230 the same as the DS-230? Well, it seems to be those two things that need to be mailed back to the embassy.

Military records: A certified copy of any military record, if applicable and obtainable, is required.

My fiance never served in the military, he was waived from that requirement. He's trying to dig up the letter that said he was waived. I wonder how necessary that is?

Is the I-864 circled with writing in French and an arrow pointing to it on yours? It says "www.uscis.gov de votre fiance". Very helpful. I'm filling out both the I-134 and I-864 and will let my fiance ask them which one they want at the interview.

Europe & Eurasia (except the UK and Russia)French military records
I'll tell you what my fiance has told me, which is all I know about it.

My fiance was originally supposed to serve 10 months in the military in the conscription that France used to have. He kept getting it put off one year after another for various reasons. In 1997 the conscription ended but all males born before 1979 were still supposed to serve. Gradually they started to exempt people from that conscription, my fiance was in the last batch of citizens exempted. In 2002 he got a letter from the military stating his exemption. He had lost the letter so he got a new one from the bureau du service national.

I don't know if that's what he's supposed to have, but I guess we'll find out a week from tomorrow! :)

And here is a 1996 news article about the conscription, in case you're interested in reading about it.

All he needs is the casier judiciaire, which he can request at https://www.cjn.just...fr/cjn/b3/eje20 . I'm not too sure what kind of effect that conviction could have - I don't have any experience with that. Maybe try asking on a more active forum?

You know what I did to get my French thread kicking... I did a timeline search for couples bringing in a significant other from France and sent them PMs saying hello and introducing myself, and explaining that I was trying to round up all the French people on VJ so please feel free to join us if you'd like - giving them the link to my France/America couples thread. I had no clue there were as many French on VJ as there are! :)

I was just poking my head in to say hello... and wow, I'm happy to see that this post is still here after all this time. Well, my Frenchie and I have been separated since August, will be divorced when I can afford it. I hope all of you have happier stories than I did. Anyone here still from my time on VJ that remembers me? I'm kinda curious. happy.gif

Thanks!

I have an interesting subject for us to talk about... I didn't think it'd be one that we'd run up against. Predjudice against French. mellow.gif SC and I have had to deal with nasty remarks about French a few times lately. Like at a garage sale we ran at mom's house, one guy rambled on for about a good 20 minutes about how the French didn't help Americans in the war however many years ago and all these other reasons that he hates French people... AFTER SC told him that he's from France! And today while driving the car in front of us had a bumper sticker that said "Boycott France" with a French flag with a line through it. I thought the days of the "freedom fries" instead of "french fries" were over but I guess not. Has anyone else run into this?

Zoltan, it's been a while since we filled out packet 3... I'm not sure if anything changed, and honestly, it was such an adrenaline-rushing time period that I don't remember what he filled out/sent back and what he didn't! blush.gif Sorry. Hopefully you got an answer by now, either on the K-1 forum or otherwise.

And just an update... we received my husband's greencard today! kicking.gif No more USCIS til 2009! biggrin.gif

For my husband's K-1 interview, documents didn't have to be translated if they were in French. I'm not sure if anything might be different for CR-1/IR-1, though.

Hi everyone. :) My husband's AOS case got transferred to CSC on the 14th. :D For K-1s CSC is bad, for AOS CSC is good... because that means you'll most likely get approved without an interview.

Congrats, bostonparis! We just mailed out our AOS/EAD/AP paperwork this week. Thursday was his 3-month-in-the-country mark and Chicago recieved the package Thursday morning. Normally we wouldn't have done something like that but we've spent the last 2 months with my sick Dad and he just passed away Sunday, so this week was his wake/funeral/burial and it was just a tidal wave of crazy events. I hope I didn't miss anything but I tossed that AOS/EAD/AP stuff together so fast... I really wouldn't be surprised if we got a RFE or two lol. My Dad told my Mom before he died that he wanted her to fill out the co-sponsor form, I lost my job last month and didn't get a new one yet because I knew Dad didn't have much longer left to live. That was such a relief. :)

Anyway, just sayin hi. I'm also glad to see things working out for you, Cécy. :)

Just checking in to say hi. :) We got married today... in a noreaster, driving rain, 60mph winds, beautiful stuff like that. Our kinda luck! Though isn't there a saying that rain on your wedding date means many blessings? :P Anyway. It was a simple thing with the town clerk and my parents, that's it. That's all we wanted.

All's going well with the apartment. We're mostly moved in, we were hoping to finish up today though now we don't know if we're gonna be able to get over there with the weather. My mom's cooking ribs and bought a cheesecake, after the food settles in our stomachs we might get brave and trek over there in the weather. We've got 2 computer desks to assemble and mold to clean out of all the kitchen cabinets. And a gross shower to clean... and... a lot of work to do.

Oh you want pictures, right?

Welcome Claudia! Did bostonparis' answer help answer your question? I'm sorry to hear your husband got deported... hopefully he wasn't banned from re-entering? I hope the visa process goes quickly for you both. (F)

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay Cécile, congratulations! I had a feeling you two would end up doing that. :D :D

All's well with Saint-Clair and I. My time off from work starts next Wednesday, April 4th - 16th. All in that time we'll be moving into our awesome new apartment... job hunting with his temp EAD... and getting married. :D We've settled in well and it's just such a relief to have him here. I love him. I probably won't be around much just because I'm, err, pre-occupied  but I'll try to check in whenever I can. :)

Flight tip: PARIS AIRPORT DOESN'T TAKE CHECKS! So if you need to pay extra to bring an extra bag, or to bring a bag over the weight limit, have euros on you. My fiance had a check from his mom, they wouldn't take it. Good thing his dad was there, his dad gave him the euros. If his dad hadn't been there... we would've been in trouble lol.

And they require to see the brown envelope before you board the plane. They didn't open his, they just needed to see that he had it.
