K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresusps or courier?

Just my two cents. Send it 2-3 day usps priority mail for $4.05. Why waste your money? Most likely will arrive in 2 days but maybe 3. Getting that extra day or two really is NOT going to speed up the process. Save yourself the cash as this process is already expensive enough.

LS

I personally will be sending it overnight because I don't want all of this stuff sitting around for 2 - 3 days... both of our social security numbers along with other sensitive info. It'd be more peace of mind for me to know that it was out of the mail as fast as it could be. ;)

I did hear something weird about VSC that maybe someone could clear up for me... I heard that if you mail it FedEx it goes straight to the service center, but other ways and it goes to a nearby town.

I'm sorry. I don't understand. I've just read the instructions to I-134 and couldn't find anything related to that. I think you don't need to send proof of citizenship after NOA2. Am I missing something?

Maybe it was a typo for I-130?

He filed for K1...

Wow, that's a horrible timeline... I hope that gets worked out for you soon. Why is the word "do" in ""s? And did you include any personal information of the people signing it on there such as address, relationship to you, employment position, etc.?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedures129f- Question -- Highlights?
I think I read about someone putting post-it notes on the papers to point out things, but those can fall off, leaving the adjudicator really confused when he finds random post-its in the envelope. So I think highlighting would be the best way to go, if you feel important things need to be highlighted. But yes, send photocopies now, and originals are for the interview. This should be obvious but when we're nervous we accidentially do things sometimes  so I just wanted to point out - make sure you highlight the photocopies that you're sending to the service center, not the originals.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAccckk! Only 3 days more ....
Like they all said, just relax, you'll do wonderful! :) Maybe have your fiance run through practice interviews with you? Make up a list of questions about him and have him quiz you, and tell you if you give the right answer. ;)

This should help:

Ah, the Embassy Consular Officer questions.

They will attempt to validate the relationship, by asking key information about you, through your Fiance.

Questions vary, but she should be aware of significant details about your life, your work and your past.

Those items that were documented in the forms.

It is all an attempt to verify that she knows you. Don't stress over this, review with her, key facts such as:

Where you work

If you have children from a previous marriage, their names and ages.

Where you were born and grew up

How you met and where

And so forth.

How do I know this, reading here, and talking to people in the Embassies where I worked overseas. I was not Consular staff though. Otherwise, I would not ask questions here.

Good luck and have educational conversations with your Fiance, to ensure she is fully cognizant of your details.

Then when the interview rolls around the answers to all those questions will be fresh in your memory. ;)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPassport photos question - headscarves?

Can you NOT wear it for the Passport photo to be taken? If you even have smallest doubt in your mind what the USCIS will do to your case. This would be a part of your visa journey with the USCIS where you can control the outcome so why not follow your best judgement, remove your worry and doubt.

IMO: Be consistance, be the rubber-stamp case where you can, no headscarf.

Good luck

Wearing it for religious reasons usually implies that it can't come off in public, and such is true for me. ;) I've only been wearing it for a few months, though, so I'm still shaky in areas like this... it's tempting to not wear it for the photo, but wearing it is something I've chosen to commit to. I'm just feeling my way through this new thing and becoming more grounded in it, really.

I've decided to just go with wearing the scarf for my picture, I've chosen to cover my hair in public and that's what I'll continue doing in all cases... if they question it, well, my photos with my fiance are from December and my passport photos will be taken in August - a lot can change in 8 months! :) I'll admit I'm still a tiny bit worried (this is where Mew will come and tell me to relax, LOL) but well, not much I can do about it lol. A commitment is a commitment. If the USCIS, or anyone on the French side, has a problem with it... I'll figure out a way to work with them on it then. In all other things I say I'd prefer to do everything possible to avoid the risk of a RFE. For this, I'd rather not compromise unless is totally and entirely necessary... i.e. there is NO way possible that they'll work with me on it and the ONE AND ONLY way for me to get my fiance here is for me to take it off for the photo.

Thanks for the response though! :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPassport photos question - headscarves?

If it's not covering your face, it sounds like you really don't have to worry about it - they're not even going to notice it, let alone worry about why you're wearing it now when you weren't a few years ago...

Okay, thank you. :D

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPassport photos question - headscarves?

You're right, worrying doesn't help - but it DOES help to think of all potential entanglements of your case. Shows that you're not just on 'cruise control' and that you're giving serious thought to your case! :)

True. :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPassport photos question - headscarves?

Nah, it wasn't an annoying question at all. I had to dig a little to find it.

I wouldn't worry about the 'inconsistancy' in your photos together and the passport photo - but I'm probably not the best authority.

Thanks! :D I'm at the point where I'm like... We've been waiting SO LONG to file this application... if we get held up by a RFE or any other problem for something that I could've prevented I'm gonna be pissed. Worrying and being over-cautious won't help anything, though, I guess.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPassport photos question - headscarves?

THIS LINK says to wear religious headwear if they are worn daily, but that it should not cast shadows on the eyes (or any part of the face).

Hope that helps!

Ah - I followed the K-1 guide to that link before posting, read it, and completely missed the part about headwear. I'm sorry about that! Thanks for being patient with me even though it's obviously in the guide, I know how annoying it is to see an already answered question being asked.

I do wear it daily now... but I didn't wear it during his visits. So my passport photo attached to my G-325A will have a headscarf, but my photos of us together that I'll submit as part of proving his visits won't show me wearing one. Will that be a problem? Should I make notations of this anywhere in the petition? Like should I drop a note in with the plastic bag that my passport photo will be in stating that I wear it daily for religious purposes, and a note in with our together pictures stating that I didn't wear it back then? Maybe that'd be giving them too much information to play with.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPassport photos question - headscarves?
I (the USC) was just gonna run out the door to get the passport photos done for my G-325A... when I thought... I wear a headscarf for religious purposes, will that be a problem? I'm not Muslim so I don't cover my ears and neck with it. I wear it bandana style - my hair is tied in a bun and my scarf is tied behind the back of my head under it. It doesn't block my face at all, it just covers my hair. Do I need to put a note with the photos explaining that the headscarf is for religious purposes, or since my face isn't blocked will it just be fine?

If you're wondering why I'm not wearing one in that picture to the left, it's something I started after the time when that picture was taken. ;) Actually, that makes me think of another question. In the photos I'll be giving them of us being together during his visits I'm not wearing a headscarf, but in the passport photo I will be. Do you think that's something that could cause a problem? Yes I know, I'm a worry wart.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPictures as evidence with engagement ring visible
You've got enough evidence to play around with. If you have a doubt, switch it out for another photo, or just don't send a photo of that trip. If you think it's gonna haunt you after you send it, then just don't include it if it isn't necessary. ;)

I also have a kissing photo that I'm shy about sending... it doesn't really prove anything anyway, people kiss people without meaning it all the time nowadays, we coulda been drunk and not known each other and that's why we kissed lol.

over nighting, or fast delivery will not speed up the process at this point. i overnighted to arrive on a saturday just to make her happy, it was expensive and the wait is still just as long.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresApproved K1, but planning a visit before moving and getting married??

My fiance has a B1 visa for the US. We are in the process of getting a K1 visa. Her interview date is for Sept 1. Assuming that the K1 will get approved in the begining of Sept, we are planning for a Feb wedding.

Would it be possible for her to travel here and visit on her B1 visa in October for a few weeks?

February wedding... well, as was said before, once the K1 visa is approved she won't have her visitor's visa anymore... when she enters the US she'll be entering for good as your fiance. You two have 90 days after her entry into the country to get married. So if you want a wedding in February she should enter November/December-ish depending on how close to the end of the 90 day period you want to wait. Or she could just enter in September and you'd have a November/December-ish wedding.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCo-sponsor: US domicile...
I'm good at searching - when I know what it is I'm searching for. My parents could be searching for something for 2 hours, I usually sit down and find it for them in 5 minutes, which gets me some interesting looks on their faces. But why waste my time searching for what I think is only numbers and abbreviations of notes in an unknown document when I can ask for a reference, or at least the name of the document? I had no clue that the abbreviations and numbers you gave me was the document or else I would have searched for it myself. ;)

Our LAST attempt at a co-sponsor, because we're flat out of people to ask... is a US citizen married to a French man and living/working in the Netherlands. K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedureshelp, support
This doesn't have to be what happens when religion is involved. My fiance and I are Catholic and we've gotten our fair share of opposition... but we've also gotten some wonderful support. People have their faults... and situations like ours just might be able to bring light to their eyes a little more, if they're willing to learn. ;) You never know, maybe they'll come around. Maybe the point will come where they'll realize how happy and serious you are and that you're gonna get married with or without them there... and even with or without them in their grandchildren's lives! Like wenchie said, give it some time.

I agree with you though, don't let them stop your plans, go and file for the K1. Don't let them stop you from that.

Does anyone know if PO Boxes are acceptable mailing addresses for this visa stuff? If so, you could just get a PO Box.

Ok, so I just called the Dept. of Homeland security and asked what happens if the security guards in Newcastle, UK open and break the seal on my fiance's brown immigration envelope. Operator 61 informed me that they will and that the immigration office in Detroit will accept it due to the High Security Level. That they will KNOW security had to open it...but I have my doubts. I'm calling back and seeing if operator 45, 58, 34 or whoever I get gives me the same line....

Ok, SO operator 3 was like, ummm well they could open it I suppose. So I asked what happens if they do? Will immigration turn him away? And she said, " that thing is sealed?" Uh yeah...thanks Homeland. So I wouldn't count on Op. 61...

Gah

Keep trying and see what the highest number of them say... if ANY of them say the same thing, that is.

Hmm. We haven't seen each other since December, and won't see each other again til he moves here. But that's cuz we're tying to save all the money that we can for his move and whatnot. I'd imagine that if he were asked that at the interview and explained that, and the fact that we still talk for hours daily and spend time on the webcam and play internet games together, that the person would just dismiss it and move on... right?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresG-325A Heads Up/Warning. Adobe Mess-up
Do NOT make 4 copies of page 1. If you look at the bottom of each page you'll see a little thing different. Page 1 says (1) Ident., page 2 says (2) Rec. Br., page 3 says (3) C., and page 4 says (4) Consul. Page 1 also does not have the large box that the other 3 pages have at the bottom, the box is smaller and doesn't include the section that says "other agency use". My guess is that 4 pages is required because each page goes to a different place - but I'm not sure on that. Whatever the case, each page is that little bit different.

Thanks for pointing this out though. Best to go with printing 1 page at a time if that's what you need to do.

My fiance's employment list goes back to 12/2001, does it have to go back to 11/2001? It'd stink to have to add 4 attachments just for that one month but it'd be better than getting a RFE.

Dang this new G-325A form is difficult. It's super slow, misses letters that I type, and the years on residence and employment don't print correctly! :ranting:
