Thanks! I just caught that I put my current employer's address only without their name on the G-325a, oops, I'm writing it in now. LOL. I'm still going through everything to make sure I didn't miss a none or n/a or whatever. :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPetition ready to go
I've goooooot...

- Cover letter

- Check for $170 made out to Department of Homeland Security, double checked that I signed it

- I-129F and Attachment for my fiance's long middle name and an answer to Q18.

- Evidence of having met in person
-- Copy of his passport stamp along with a copy of the biographic info page of his passport.
-- Copies of his 4 boarding passes.
-- Copies of his baggage stickers showing his name, the airline, the date, and the destination.
-- Notarized letter from my parents attesting that they met him and he stayed in their house for most of his visit.
-- Hotel reciepts.
-- 2 photos of us together.
--- Photos have our names along with the date and location of the photo written on the back.

- G-325a and passport-style photo (petitioner)
- G-325a and passport-style photo (beneficiary)
-- The passport-style photos have the full name of the person in the photo written on the back.

- Copy of the front and back of petitioner's birth certificate.

- Letter of intent (petitioner)
- Letter of intent (beneficiary)

Am I missing anything? That adds up to 45 pages. Sheesh. I'm gonna go through it all a few times to make sure nothing was left blank or unsigned.

I'm gonna put it in a manilla envelope, and put that in an express overnight envelope. Do I write "I-129F Original Submission" on the outside of both envelopes?

Thanks!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHelp please...last minute change
If you do decide to go the K-1 route, here's my suggestions of what you get as evidence of meeting:

- Keep your e-mail flight itinerary, boarding passes, baggage stickers (the ones they attach to your bags that have the airline, date, your name, and the destination), and anything else you have as proof of the flight.

- Keep any itineraries/reciepts from any hotel stays you may have.

- If you have a credit card, debit card, or ATM card, use it at least once while in Morocco. Then save your credit card statements that show you purchased something in his town.

- Take LOTS of pictures of you with him and his family. If you can, get something with the date in the background, like a sign... or at the very least, hold up a newspaper with a visible date. Get some pictures in well-known places too, if you can.

Get creative. Think of any documentary evidence that can place you two together in Morocco. :)

As for after the trip, chat logs are good BUT they can be easily faked. (I'm not saying that you two would fake them, just that that could be the mindset of the officer at the interview.) I suggest writing some postal letters back and forth - save the envelope so the date and sending location can be seen on the postmark. Then have him bring both the internet evidence AND the postal mail evidence to his interview.

Good luck - I just sent out our petition to VSC (for the first time) yesterday, so I suppose we'll have similar timelines. :) It's neat to meet other people who filed at the same time.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresG-325A Form help
Yeah I printed it without the years and went back and hand-wrote in the years, too.

One other suggestion is make sure you have NO gaps in your employment. Put in unemployed even if there was only 1 month of unemployment. For example, it should look like this:

Job 1: 9/2006 - Present
Unemployed: 8/2006 - 9/2006
Job 2: 7/2005 - 8/2006
Job 3: 4/2002 - 7/2005
Etc.

Make sure there's no gaps. ;)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCheck cleared, yay :)
Thanks all! I was thinking I should update my timeline when I get the hard copy of the NOA1... or am I supposed to update it with the 11/24 date that USCIS has?

Our timelines are similar :) I was sure you'd get your NOA1 soon after me...hehe. Congrats! Let's hope we'll get our NOA2 very soon~~

Oh wow, yeah they are! I guess that P Novak does a lot of signing, eh? That name sounded familiar when I saw it, I've seen it here before, lol. When I hear you scream "I got it!!" I'll know I shouldn't be too far behind. :D

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCheck cleared, yay :)
The cleared check showed up in my online banking account today. I just had to share with people who would understand WHY I jumped and yelled and got all excited. My mom thought I was nuts lol.

I followed the guide post and signed up for an account at USCIS. Wow this disclaimer is insane:

YOU HAVE CONNECTED TO A U.S. GOVERNMENT COMPUTER. IF YOU ARE NOT AUTHORIZED TO ACCESS THIS SYSTEM, DISCONNECT NOW. All attempts to access and use this system and/or its resources are subject to keystroke monitoring and recording. Everyone using this system expressly consents to such monitoring and is advised that if such reveals possible evidence of criminal activity or abuse of authority, the information will be reported to authorities for action. Unauthorized access attempts or use in excess of documented authority may subject you to a fine and/or imprisonment in accordance with Title 18, USC, Section 1030 or administrative penalties or dismissal.

Sheesh. Think they want to deter hackers? Wow.

Anywho. Account made, turned on e-mail notifications... so now I get to get locked out of my USCIS account for checking too much for updates instead of locked out of my bank account for checking too much to see if the check cleared! I'd rather be locked out of USCIS instead of my bank account anyway!

On November 24, 2006, we received this I129F PETITION FOR FIANCE(E), and mailed you a notice describing how we will process your case.

Wow, they were at work the day after Thanksgiving, and they opened/took care of it the next business day after they recieved it... cool. Guess I'll be getting our NOA1 soon? This feels so good! :D 11 months of wanting to file and now it's finally happening! :D But I'm gonna be late for work because I have to leave soon and I'm still in my pajamas, whoops.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCrossing the border... Risky?
You mentioned her flying to Canada and you crossing the border with her... can you fly up to Canada and you both visit together there for a week or two? I know it's almost nothing compared to 90 days, but it'd be better than nothing at all.

I know it's hard - my fiance and I haven't seen each other in 11 months. It's really been weighing us down. But after 11 months, a few more doesn't seem so long. We know we're almost there and then we'll never be seperated again. :)

WHOA!

You joined yesterday, and made FOUR separate topics already!

Take some time, read the guides THEN ask questions.

True, but you shoulda seen how many posts I had when I first joined - and I had read the guides. I remember the first page always had at least, like, 5 posts that I started. I sorta annoyed a few people, too. Just comes with being new to this, nervous, and excited, I guess.

rebex05, welcome to VJ, and to the visa process. Like they said, take a look through the guides and use the search function on the forum to search for stuff. There's a wealth of information here. :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresDouble checking paperwork.
Oh, here's another idea - are you two gonna stay in a hotel together? If so, get his name on the reciepts as your guest. If you weren't planning on it, and would like to, maybe take a 2 or 3 day trip somewhere and stay in a hotel doing that. ;) It's a good way to get both of your names on something in print.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresDouble checking paperwork.
I remember you! :) If he has a bank/credit/debit/ATM card it'd be a good idea to have him buy something in your city so his bank statement will show he was with you. ;) Copies of his entry/exit passport stamps would be good, too, as was said. When you take those photos try to get the date in the background somehow, maybe a sign or something.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNot seeing each other's effect on interview decision?

I'm going thru Manila where high fraud is a factor. I've seen many approved with the timeframe you mentioned. in such a situation, you just need to prove it is a genuine, ongoing relationship. you can provide evidence like an updated letter of intent, snail smails, emails phone records etc...

Okay, phew. If people did it in Manila then we'll be fine with Paris. Thanks! We plan on writing snail mail letters back and forth and saving the envelopes (stamps/return address/postmark) even though we talk on the phone and internet every day. I've got all our MSN archives saved and we've both been saving our phone bills. Good idea with the updated letters of intent. :) I might as well use my thinking too much on gathering evidence for the interview, put it towards good use. At this rate I may as well buy a binder and organize it all for him. :P But seriously, if I were an adjudicating officer I'd ask why two people in love hadn't seen each other face-to-face in 14 months... but in that case some passport stamps, photos, and hotel reciepts wouldn't prove to me that they met in person, either! So let's all be glad I don't work for the USCIS!

Angilla

Many of us have been or were apart for similar time frames with no ill effects. However there are cases whereby the application for a visa has been denied. I would recommend emailing or faxing the consulate to request an extension of the petition once it is approved if it looks like the interview will fall after the validity date of the petition as noted on the NOA2. Also include another 'Letter of Intent'. That way they at least can't use the expiration of the petition to deny. I wouldn't worry too much as most seem to be extended automatically. Better to be safe then sorry though.

Thanks, I'll keep an eye on the expiration date when we get the NOA2! (I'm NOT gonna say if we get the NOA2, I'm saying when!)

Oh - I should've worded the title differently, too late to fix that now. We HAVE seen each other within the last 2 years, so we meet the requirement for the I-129F.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNot seeing each other's effect on interview decision?
Say my fiance has his interview in February, that'll have been 14 months since we last saw each other in person. It's been hard as heck but we're stashing away every cent that we can to help with all the expenses we'll have when he moves here. It's at the point where another 3 months is nothing compared to the 11 we've just gone through. Not that it's not hard, just that we know we'll get through it and we'll appreciate it later when we've got a few hundred extra dollars in the bank when we're getting an apartment, flying him and his stuff here, etc.

But would it give the person interviewing him a reason to doubt the validity of our relationship? If he were from a high fraud country I'd say most likely... but... he's from France, that's not a high fraud country. So I'm not sure if I'm just thinking too much like I usually do. I can't think too much about the petition as it's in VSC's hands so now I'm thinking about other things. But I guess to a person looking in from the outside "Why haven't you seen each other in over a year?" could be a viable question... and "we wanted to save our money" could lead to them doubting me as his sole sponsor... so... hmm.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAnyone ever have any of the emails from the USCIS go to their spam box?

I use hotmail, and e-mails from USCIS were being sent to my junk mail folder. The e-mails come from either USCIS-SRMT@dhs.gov or USCIS-CSSO@dhs.gov Add both to your approved list and you should be all set.

I just added both to my hotmail safe list, thanks! It says a domain can be added, too, so just for good measure I added @dhs.gov, that should take care of it.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresOMG, OMG,OMG,OMG,OMG I've been touched

It's exciting to see a touch, isn't it? I logged in a few hours ago and nothing, I logged in now and our case has been touched... boy did I jump. I logged in expecting nothing again, was shocked to see a touch! And our case is a baby, I can only imagine seeing a touch after 3 months of nothing - so I bet it must've been bigger for you! :D Congrats, hope it means an approval is soon for you!

Those are great news, Angilla! And since your case went to Vermont, expect it to go FAST. (F)

Thanks! I'm trying not to expect it because I don't want to be let down if it takes a long time. And I feel bad because the CSC folks wait so long while the VSC folks fly through and that's not fair at all. In a way though, I feel like I've been waiting a year for NOA2... it's been a year since my fiance and I agreed we wanted to file for the K1. But then I got sick for months, and then I got a job without thinking about finances (duh) and had to quit it, then it took me 2 months to find me a good job that paid enough... it's been like... every time we want to file something happens. We want to file and I get sick. We want to file and we realize I need a new job. We want to file and we realize our paperwork is out of date because the dates by the signatures are months old and the USCIS changed one of the forms. Now it's finally out - and the people I met when we initially filed are married right now! :( So it's time to get this show on the road!
