I got through at 9:20pm EST. I sent them an e-mail the same day I called and still haven't gotten a response. So I guess which route you pick depends on how patient you are.

National Visa Center (Dept of State)NVC notice
Definately call the NVC and ask. I got the letter dated December 29th saying they'd mail it within a week... well... when I called they said they mailed it off to the Paris embassy on the 28th! So call them, you may find out that your case is in the mail already. :D

Their phone # is 603-334-0700. Press 1 for English, then 5 to speak to an operator. If all operators are busy they'll transfer you back to the menu, just hang up because if you press 5 for operator again they'll say "sorry, all operators are still busy, goodbye" and disconnect. I had to try for an hour and 20 minutes to finally get a live operator on the phone. I put the number on speed dial, LOL. They have live operators there til midnight EST during the week, I don't know about weekends though.

Don't bother with the automated service. K1s usually aren't put in there because they don't stay at the NVC for too long.

Asia: East and PacificDoes my fiancee have to be alone at the medical?
Hi Matt,

Maybe she can request a female doc or a nurse in the room???

I understand her being uncomfortable and such...I am a massage therapist and to be honest, most of the people I see are naked (under a towel or blanket, of course). The bottom line is that after seeing so many people in such a state, every health care provider I know of-whether it be nurse, doc, PA, PT or LMT, is objective and non-judgemental. In a sense, when someone is on my table, all I see is a "form" of a body. After seeing so many people naked, we are desensitized to "naked-ness". We are simply unaffected by it.

I do understand her feelings, however. I work with a male therapist, and he encounters this a lot.

If her mum cannot attend the medical for whatever reason, see if a female doc is available or an attending nurse.

Good Luck !

Hi Matt,

"To Whom it May Conern" is the one I have seen used most.
The heading is unimportant, as it is the body that holds the most weight. Don't stress over it. : )

Oh, didn't know that...
Does she maybe want to start a family right away??

I have a few Vietnamese friends, male & female and they are quite focused on their families...it's actually quite nice to see...

Find out her reasons for not wanting to go...

Don't worry-everything works out.

Hi Matt,

Don't get me wrong, I understand your point as well. Maybe she was simply thinking things through before she wanted to talk about it... we women do that. It's not a matter of keeping info from you-we just like to have our heads straight before we open such a door and invite discussion on the topic.

Can she not get a grant here once she naturalizes??
I am under the impression that there are MANY grants available out there.
I was a med student until 2 years ago and got income based grants, grants based upon my GPA, and grants b/c I was woman over 30...and yeah, I am paying back some student loans, but they are a fraction of the norm due to the grants I snagged. Each school is different as far as what they offer...

The bottom line is that this woman loves you and wants to be with you-not in Paris.

Hi Matt,

It is a wonderful opportunity-to you-but maybe not to her right now...

Right now, it's just not what she wants for herself. Keep in mind that she is NOT American, and culturally, she is different. Her values are more traditional it seems...and it's not worth it to her just now.
She can go to school on grants here once she is established. She is young and has her whole life ahead of her.
Ultimately, it's her decision- and as her man, she needs your support regardless of your agreeing with her choice or not.

I have to say Matt, apart from the fact I am a 37 year old American woman, I would turn it down too if the circumstances were the same. I would rather give it up for now and begin my life with the one I love.
A relationship thrives on love, friendship and loyalty. Finances and career opportunities are secondary. Money will come and go, but a solid friendship can withstand ANYTHING.
Just my opinion.
Try to understand where she stands.

Hey There Matt,

Keep it in your carry-on luggage within your toiletry bag. I usually keep any jewelry there when I go to the UK.
DON'T keep it in your suitcase that you'll be checking. The possibility exists that your bag could be lost, delayed or "sifted through"...

Last time I went to visit hubby, he gave me a vintage 18kt Zippo lighter. I had no choice but to keep in my checked luggage, due to the no lighter policy. Well, long story short...It was delayed in France and TSA went through it and helped themselves to the wedding gift that my husband gave me...I am STILL fighting for a reimbursment...

Let's see a the ring already !! : )

Show us a photo, man !

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone from Nigeria can help me get my hands on some Ugu in the US-New York in particular. It is a pumpkin-indigenous to Africa, and it helps with severe anemia.
I am caring for a very anemic ferret, and only use herbs to treat-I have read some studies...looks like this can help him much better than B12, or iron can. It stimulates Red Blood Cell production better than ANY commercial product and I would REALLY like to find some....

Thanks in Advance !

National Visa Center (Dept of State)how accurate is the automated system??
Hi,

You should ccall again tomorrow during business hours, and speak with an operator personally. The automated system is great for some things, but in this case-do speak with someone. You will get more answers. Everyone I have spoken with at NVC has been very. very nice and helpful.

Good Luck.

-Rose

Hi Again,

Almost forgot, use your USCIS case number for now.

Ours took about 2 weeks to get there from Vermont. I think they send over in bulk 1x a week.
The NVC case number will be on the DS-3032 upon receipt.

Give a phone for peace of mind.

National Visa Center (Dept of State)Typo on Birth Certificate for Joint sponsor
Hi Vonnie,

All joint sponsors must show proof of US citizenship. The only people obligated to produce such proof in your household are those joint sponsoring.

Hi Sanc,
After some deep breathing
I think the best option is the route I have taken so far, which is to order her a corrected copy. It's on the way, as I ordered it last week-but I am just impatient, as this I-864 has been a true nightmare and I just look forward to the day when I never have to see it again...
In the grande scheme of things, I should take a deep breath and just wait it out. I am not about to be a cowboy and take risks here.
Thanks for helping ground me. : )

National Visa Center (Dept of State)Typo on Birth Certificate for Joint sponsor
Hi All,

I am still here in I-864 purgatory...

My joint sponsor (my sister), has a typo on a copy of her birth certifcate that she obtained about 15 years ago. Why she did not correct it back then is anyone's guess...
The original one was lost in a fire when we were kids...

The actual typo is a misspelling of her first name. She ordered a correct one, but it will take about 2 weeks to get here. She does not travel, and hasn't a passport that we could use in it's place to prove citizenship.

IT IS THE ONLY THING IN MY WAY FROM SENDING OUT MY I-864 PACKAGE...Which, as you know from my prior postings, has been a major thorn in my side

My question is, should I send it out with the typo and see if they have a problem, or should I wait for the corrected one?

National Visa Center (Dept of State)Another I-864 Question
Thank you for the information. I figured I was at the mercy of NVC, despite the changes within the embassy.
C'est La Vie.

I already placed a call to both my accountant and my ex. My accountant is meticulous with record keeping, but I am sure is BUSY with it being tax season and all...I spoke to the ex this morning also-he says he has them.
I'd really rather not have to take the 1.5 hour drive and deal with the ex, but needs must...
Maybe the accountant will call and I can run out on my lunch hour and grab them??? That would be cool, but whatever works out !
I am just happy that I don't have to wait longer to get my hands on them from the IRS, and perhaps even by tomorrow, my I-864 hellish nightmare will be part of history ! ((((fingers crossed))))

Thanks again,

Rose

National Visa Center (Dept of State)Another I-864 Question
Hi Karen,

Thank you for answering...I have heard conflicting things regarding that.

That would be great if it were one year required for a CR1...it would save me all of the headaches I have gone through this week alone with gathering what I need to get this over and done with. However, it is my understanding that the jury is still out on whether that is definitive on CR1's, as there is no adjustment of status-it's an automatically an LPR situation.

I have heard a few different things with regard to the I-864 and CR1's. If there is anyone out there who has had a recent experience, please share.
Thanks !

National Visa Center (Dept of State)Another I-864 Question
Hi,
I was planning on sending out my I-864 tomorrow, but read another thread, and it got me thinking...and second guessing myself...

Here's the situation:

I ordered my tax transcripts (2003 & 2004) from the IRS and got them very quickly.
I did not have a copy of the 2003 return due to a divorce, and the ex taking them along with him. I do have a copy of my 2004's handy...but ordered 2003 and 2004 just to have the same items for presentation. I filed 2005's last month and have a copy of it, as well as my 1099's. (I am a contractor and do not get a W2)

I am submitting the copy of 2005 along with my 1099, however, do I need to send my 1099's for 2003 and 2004 along with the transcripts for 2003 and 2004 ? I figured they were not needed as the transcripts came from the IRS.

The visa we are going for is a CR1. We had to have a joint sponsor, as my income for 2005 just missed the mark. Our joint sponsor has copies of all of her returns and her W2's

So, must I submit them (the 1099's) along with the IRS transcripts???
I have to say, this whole thing is causing me to lose my rational thinking sometimes...Help !!

Thanks for any information in advance !

-Rose

National Visa Center (Dept of State)Why is it taking soooo long!!!!!!??
Hi...

I have often thought that myself. Why not send the bill with the form and pay it upon submission?
Why generate so much paperwork to begin with? All of the back and forth stuff buys them time, I imagine. Sucks for us though...

The waiting took it's toll on me so much that I actually felt like I was about to break last week.
Sadly, I took it out on my husband (which was terrible), and spent the weekend with a big frown on my face. Worst part is that we never really argue and I was being SO horribly difficult. We made up-but I still feel so horrible.

The reason was- I am in the middle of waiting for my co-sponsor's birth certificate to be corrected-the city spelled her name wrong-TWICE !!!! So, I am stuck in I-864 purgatory. I have hope that this whole thing will be resolved today, as she is going to city hall to show them how to do their jobs properly.

I needed to take a step back from all this stuff-it was literally making me ill.
I understand you completely-but a little piece of unsolicited advice...don't let it take you down with it.
Time will pass, and you will be with you loved one. Take a deep breath and keep that thought in your pocket at all times.

Best Wishes,

Rose
