They then told me, I could NOT have a learner's permit here, I had to CONVERT it and do a 3 hour drug and alcohol program. I even EMAILED them AFTER to check this was RIGHT! So I did the alcohol and drug course in SEPTEMBER, and the driving school finally gave me the certificate in DECEMBER. I went back to the MVA in January to make an appointment for the driving test, by which point my I-94 had expired, so the bastards told me MAKE AN APPOINTMENT! There were no January appointments left, I was told to call in FEBRUARY. I made an appointment on the 6th of FEB for TODAY (two FREAKING MONTHS LATER). TODAY I go in, they say 'SORRY YOU NEED A LEARNER'S PERMIT'?????????? Now, the FRIGGED up thing about it, is that I have to hold the learner's permit for SIX FREAKING months until I can drive on my OWN????? I am sooo pissed and disgusted with those stupid a$$holes right now. Bwoy, yuh see dis is what mi CYAN'T tek wid govenrment offices...is WAT kindda madness a gwaan! Dem really f-hup some people wid dis type a foolishness!!!! Gurl, hang tight han jus knoa seh...bettah MUS come!!! When yuh FINALLY git yuh license...then yuh done wid dem! However, I would still send an email to my state legislator and the MVA commissoner...just to make them aware of the type of incompetency that can be found in their agencies!!! They were only able to tell me that the case is current and is at the NVC. When I told her that the case was completed on 3/3 she was only able to tell me that the case was not yet forwarded to Kingston. Is it only after the case is forwarded to Kingston, they can access it to give you info. What kind of info did you garner from them? Is it even necessary for me to call them. NVC told me this morning that my case has not yet been forwarded to Kingston. I got the interview date on 3/25 but it is still in NH. I thought that once an interview date is assigned, it would then be shipped immediately to Kingston. Clariey, Once your case is in KNG...the 202# is much more helpful! However, it may work differently for you though b/c of the visa you have! I started calling 202# once Ken dropped off his DS-230...they were able to tell me the same day that his DS-230 had been accepted and his case was complete for an interview date! But our interview dates are issued by Embassy, not NVC...they were the one's who told me WHAT the actual interview date was, what documentation I should and should NOT take down. It all takes a while to get. This time goes a lot faster then you think it will. Today is my favorite day of the entire year.......opening day of the baseball season. The city is a sea of Cardinal red. The excitement is nearly palpable around here. I cannot wait for the 3:15 opening pitch to come. GO CARDS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks JG -- I didn't know you were a baseball fan. It's been crazy in DC since Friday with the opening of the new baseball stadium, which is HUGE! We opened our brand new stadium 2 years ago now. I remember all the hoopla and fun. I am a HUGE baseball fan. Have been all my life. I have been rubbing off on my husband.....he's getting there after attending 7 games and lots of TV coverage under his belt. We go to our first game this year on Saturday. I absolutely cannot wait! I am planning on taking Ken and the boys to a Mets game the end of April! Should be very interesting! I also signed Ken up to be an Asst. Football (soccer) coach on my eldest's team...they SUCK!!! Poor Ken is taking it a little too seriously ...he's like are they conditioned and they know the different positions...rat tay tay wid halla these questions. Meanwhile they are like the Bad News Bears of Soccer (my son is fighting off 4 opponents and the rest of the team is on the other side of the field doing cartwheels and showing off dance moves )and the Head Coach is hobbling along wid a cane telling them to "Follow Jordan!!!!" (my son)! I am NOT bragging when I say that my son is the best on the team. He was doing more coaching yesterday than the coach was! I told the Head coach about Ken and he was like..."Can he start TODAY!!!" Jordan was like..."Am I gonna have to be the 'translator'?
