Howdy Family,

I hope everyone had a blessed and truly thankful thanksgiving. I haven't been on in awhile. I had to rush my Dad to hospital last Sunday. He was having horrible stomach pains...long story short...he had an obstructed bowel...had surgery and is coming home today! So even though I didn't have a REAL Thanksgiving...I am still really THANKFUL!!

Hope all is well with the gang! Going back to skim and see what everyone's been up to!

Ok... I actually took it one step further and started a new FB group for us! The name of the group in 'Who's who from VJ Yardies@home & Farrin' thread'. It's a private group to protect us from cyber-stalkers and what not. I am the Admin...but I have already sent out invites to my VJ friends that are also on FB! As soon as they decide to join...I will make as many people Admin's as possible. This way it's not just one person that you have to depend upon to get access to our group!

Again....once you sign into your FB page...just do an FB search for the page!

I LOVE FACEBOOK!! I've been an addicted member of FB since 2005/2006...my students told me about it! Then I begged all my family & friends to join...it's finally starting to catch on!

I agree with you Nels...I feel like I have greater control over who can view my page in FB!

There is also a 'Who's who from VJ' topic page on FB! Just search for it under your FB 'Search' bar!

It's a good way to figure out who's who and 'friend' people you know! I put my name on the list....so feel free to 'Friend' me

I was going to come on here and tell you my good news...but I see my likkle Chatty Kimmy already filled you in!

D.C. was awesome! My Sister did alot of volunteer work for both the campaign and the inaugural committee in D.C. So she was selected to visit the White House yesterday.

She asked me to be her guest! I gave her my ssn on Friday and then the Secret Service called her on Tuesday night (11PM!!) saying we had both been approved. They told her NO CAMERAS. Ok, we get there at 2pm...we see WAN RAS of a line outside the WH!! I'm like who are ALL these people?? AND WHY THE HECK DO ALL OF THEM HAVE CAMERAS!! I WAS PISSED!!!

(cause I went against my instincts to bring my camera cause of my sister's nagging)

Ok, so we move through the crowd and get in to the WH. We are doing a tour ...ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!! We saw David Axelrod (Barack's right hand man) and Rob Gibbs ( Left hand man) walk by and we are about to pass out! We see the back yard...HUGE and go upstairs. We enter the main ballroom...beautiful and there's wan ras line! Wan J'Can ooman start fi mek hup noise bout wat tekking dis line suh lang fuh look pon some pictures han come hout!!

A MESS!!

NOBODY knew that we were meeting Michelle in the next room. So, I'm beefing to my Sis about her forbidding me from bringing a camera, smacking my gum and a secret service guy finally says to us..."There are to be no pictures with Mrs. Obama." I was like ...

...WHAT DID YOU SAY...WITH WHO??! I chocked and then swallowed my gum!

He was like "They didn't tell you...you're meeting Mrs. Obama!" My sister and I looked at each other like OMG!!!! So, they open the door to the State room and we see her! She looked so beautiful and regal...like she had been doing this for YEARS!! Shaking everyones hand! Seriously there werr about 300 out us!!

To see this beautiful black woman as First Lady in a home that was built and maintained by Slaves for a good part of it's history...brought me to tears. It made me realize how far we, as not only Blacks, but as Americans had come! I couldn't stop Bawling! So , Mrs. Obama reaches out and shakes my hand! She looks at My sister says "Thank you for everything you have done!" She then turns to me and says "No, No ...we have no time for tears now. We have too much work to do for tears!..Save them we will all have a good cry in 4 years! Please go out and encourage all you know to help us...by helping each other...get involved! We CAN do this!" I nodded my head and told her "Thank You" (Still blubbering)

We then went to the main dining room and they handed out White House cookies! We saw the red carpet to the Oval Office and left out of the front of the White House! It was amazing!! Our whole trip was surreal! Ken, I and the boys stood in the Mall and bawled as we watched Obama become our President!

Just an amazing time!

AWESOME IDEA Mar!!

I for one am down for gettin' fine in 09! I started the year by 'TRYING' to quit my 25 year (on and off) addiction to nicotine! It's been about 55 hours so far and no cigarettes! Next up is to get some of my weight off...but right now it's the smoking thing! Good luck to all who are striving to look fine in 09!

Thats very true. I know there are many reasons why a person can't be there...financial...work...other commitments...but it is a big day and its like not showing up for a job interview. Even though the visa is for your SO, the ONLY reason why they are even in the process of getting this visa is cause of you so I beiliev you should definitely go and treat it just like it was the 2 of you having the interview.

So for all these fiance visas that you guys say people were there for, were their SO there too? I wonder about these "fradulent' cases. Were these people like someone who was trying to get over on their SO, or do you think it was a situation where the SO from the States new this was a sting operation all along?

I'm telling you. One lady Ken saw at his medical was at the interview and told the USCIS officer she met her fiance over the phone! OK, she was like 60 years old...yeah I know love don't have an age but...The interviewer was like so he just randomly called your number one day? No, my uncle set us up! Oh, then you just fell in love with him...over the phone???The lady was like "Hmmmm...Yes...I guess so?!" He came to visit you once in 2 years and you know this is the man for you? "Hmmmm....Yes...I believe so!"

NOW C'MON!!!!!

A next young gyal was just a mess and the USCIS told her she was going to throw her out of the Embassy if she didn't stop lying! On the original paperwork is wrote that she was living with a man...but then when the interviewer asked she said she was by herself when she met her Fiance!

Then she asked her for proof...pictures, cards, ...letters phone bills! She pulls out phone bills...The interviewer was like "You went MONTHS without speaking to your fiance and that was ok with you!? You're a very trusting woman...cause I couldn't do that! Can you give me ONE reason ...just one as to why you have to go to the States?"

Deh dyam fool gyal seh..."I don't know...tuh see him!" NO WRONG ANSWER!!! "BECAUSE I LOVE HIM AND CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT HIM!!!" The interviewer LACED har rass!!

"1). I in no way shape or form believe your ####### & bull story! 2). Do you know that the JA gov't. can have you arrested for lying to an international officer! 3). Yuh cyan see your 'fiance' deh next time he comes down here, if that's the only reason you NEED to go! You are denied!"

Both of those 2 examples were by themselves.

The next guy that was WITH his 'fiance' had been married and tried to enter the US previously...only to be denied entrance b/c the wife withdrew her paperwork BEFORE he got there...because he had had another woman file a fiance visa for him! And his current Fiancee knew nothing about any of this! But the dyam fool ooman stood by his side anyway! They called her into a room...by herself... and I know that had to ask her if she knew what she was doing!?

I don't agree with the wear whatever you want statement. Dress as if you are going to an interview. Honestly, in my opinion the people that came in jeans and looking sloven & raggedy...they kindda pushed harder. They KNOW this is a big day for you and I think they expect you to dress the part! Not a suit, but a button down dress shirt or polo and a pair of dockers will work.

Nbes, that was a great story. Thanks for sharing. I'm sure his family is just sad to see him leave. I mean its not like he's moving to another parish or something its a whole nother country....and a country that they don't have the ability to visit very often. This whole visa process and the move really does affect more than just the 2 people in the relationship, I'm sure they'll come around after they have the time to process him being away. I went to Carib...i think it was Carib...its the big theater right? I saw Jumper there.

He checked them and gave us a number and we went in and took a seat in section A. They called our number and requested the same docs the recptionist did, plus my tax info and I-134. She was tossing our stuff around, guess she was having a bad day, but then she asked me to stand to the left and let Andrew be in the center. She checked the docs, kept them and told us to proceed to section B. In section B, you just wait to be called for fingerprinting. Andrew had trouble with this. He is an electrical technician at Federated Pharmaceutical and they work him to the bone literally. The guy had trouble trying to get his fingerprints because they were rubbed off a bit. After that you proceed to section C. This is where you can hear everyone's interview. So many people got denied or turned around because they didn't have all the docs. If you can go with your fiance to this interview..please do! Those who were there without their partner were given a very hard time. Everyone was getting denied left and right and you could hear every reason why...not all the docs, not making enough money, one guy was being fraudulent. He had tried to sneak into the US before. Lots of people were lying when asked questions.....how did you meet, when, when did you get engaged, how, how do you know they love you, where is proof....ect. It was so scary to watch. Then our number was called....we got to the window and had to swear to tell the truth. She asked us how long we have been talking Andrew said Dec. 23, 2005..I said...no, it's 2006. Then she asked how we met and he said myspace.com. Then she got hard in asking well how is it the two of you got together, do you want to marry everyone there, do you date all who sends you a message...just gave him a hard time. He stutters a bit at times, but this time he was having an extremely hard time, so I asked if I could answer, she was rude and said no..he should no for himself. Finally she let me answer, truth is he went blank. Then she asked him when the wedding was and we said June and she told me in my statement of intent I out April, and I said yeah because I didn't know Jamaica would take so long so we had to push it back! Then she asked him what kind of work I do and he answered. Then she granted us the visa. Told us to have a happy marriage! I should have been happy, which I was, but I was so upset with Andrew because he forgot and tensed up..we went to airpack just across the street, and then we left. I apologized to Andrew, we made up and had a great day and I am looking forward to him being here soon. His family is not so happy because he is leaving. They feel like he is abandoning them. his mom won't speak to him and all....so much. if they only would remember how they felt when they found love..once you find it, you do what you have to to keep it and help it grow. We also went to the movies that night. It was his first time there at Carib. We went to see Step Up 2. I had already watched it before. It was a lovely evening and now my family and I are just awaiting his arrival....and our big day...June 7, 2008 @ 2pm!!! To God be the glory for all He has done!! I agree she was really mean to Andrew(We were sitting in the back...Ken had on a light Green shirt & I had on a black & white dress)...which I thought was unecessary! I also agree that if you can GO for the interview! For whatever reason they are brutal on those that go without their SO.. I heard one interviewer ask "This is a very big day for you...Why isn't your fiance/wife here?" A number of times to different applicants.

I swear so many people were trying to get over...it started to piss me off! Cause it just makes it harder for legit couples to get through...Everyone han dem Momma filed a 'Fiance Visa'!!

Mi seh people can say what they want about VJ and my Yardie thread...but if you come in and ASK yuh questions dem...yuh won't go wrong! Ken was like Thank you VJ!! DYAM RIGHT!!!

Mawning Fams,

I just thought of something for those filing after me!

Make sure you have a copy of your original petition. Make a copy and send it to your SO. That's where they get MAJORITY of their questions from...duh! I didn't realize that until I keep seeing the same pattern of questions being asked over and over again.

Also if you haven't filed yet. Make your description of how you met as brief and concise as possible. The more details you give them...the more questions they can ask! I only wrote a paragraph of how we met (because I was too dyam lazy & annoyed fuh go inna more details at the time). But it worked out for the best in the end!

For those of you that have interviews coming up...GET YOUR 2007 tax returns!! If you have those for whatever reason they are pleased! You DO NOT have to have the transcripts for 2007...just the return. Nuff people went up with 2006 and they seemed annoyed...some people even got a blue slip to come back when they have them!

Hmmmmm...I think that's it!

I want to SINCERELY thank ALL of you guys...newbies, veterans...ALL of your prayers definately worked!!!

We were Blessed for the entire journey. We decided to drive Chalky Hill into town (because less police checks- if we remember were we left off Ken's license will not arrive til 3/17/08 and Gill was NOT used to driving on the other side of the road!)

So if anyone knows Chalky Hill you KNOW that it's PURE corners and narrow streets!

Ken did EXCELLENT witht he driving and I would take over at the more straight runs! THANK G-D we reached Portmore (Ken's Aunt's House) safely with NO stops...G-d is good!

So, we wake up bright and early the next morning it a WONDERFUL breakfast of Ackee & saltfish with Fried dumpling and hot cocoa tea w/condense milk...YUM!! After that Ken's Aunt...put dung a pissa prayers for us and our interview! She all ask the Lord to bless & touch the person interviewing us!

We got to the Embassy at around 8AM...the whole bus, taxi ride Ken kept repeating dates, names and other things they could test him on...

( Driving me CRAZY!!)

So, we found a nice Ras to hold our things...(he remembered Ken from when he went to drop-off the DS-230)
They let us in...the guy in the front (really nice Jamaican Guy) walked us through what papaers we would need! I then realized I had only filled out 1 copy of the DS 156 & DS 157 (I KNOW!!

) So I quick quick filled it out! He gave us our number...(LUCKY NUMBER U 042)and we went inside to Section A.

Waited for about 20 minutes...we were called up...we handed in all our documents and she told us we could move on to Section B! Went to Section B in 5 minutes we were called up and a lady asked if I had my tax returns I told her yes from 2004-2007. She said "wonderful...the 2007's please. She went through it and took out what she needed and handed me back the rest! She also wanted the official copy of my divorce! Whipped it out and gave her! She told us to have a sit back in Section 'B'!

Then 2 minutes later a gentleman called us to take Kens fingerprints...then we moved on to Section 'C'!

OK,

for a second! Can I tell you my hat goes off to the people working in Section C ...they have one HELL of a job to do and from what I could tell they do it well!! NUFF NUFF people were trying to get over!!!! One guy had had 3 women fil for him since 2001 (unbeknownst to his current fiancee), a next girl lied on her and wrote in 2006 she was living with a common law husband...but then told the interviewer she was by herself in 2006! Nuff foolishness

So we go to section 'C' and Wait...and wait...and wait!! Ok, so I saw Nbesaw (I think) who had her appointment after us gets called before us for the last part! (They got through ...congrats Nbes...BTW!) So, you done know me already. Ken is still spewing out family facts and I am going CRAZY with the waiting! So, I go to get up and ask what's going on... Ken pulls my dress and says..."Just watch your tone!" Like I don't knoa dat!

I get up and brush my dress off and approach an available officer, in my finest American accent say " Good Morning, I am not trying to be difficult. But now I am beginning to get concerned that something happened to our file. We have been waiting a good amount of time now. I understand you guys are swamped to day...but I just wanted to make sure we were still on the radar.

"

She said "I know...what time was your appointment? "8:30" " Ok, we should be getting to you very soon. Try to bare with us!" Ok, at this point I look down cause she just opened a new file and I see Ken's name

" OK, Ma'am, thank you for your time , no problem, I totally understand!" So ,I slowly walk back to my chair (cus mi doan knoa wi NEXT!!!) I mouth to Ken "We Next!" As soon as mi seh dat "Mr. Ken Young to window 23 please!"

Ken jumps up like a gunshot and I turn to the same lady and approach the window with a smile and say "I guess you were right!" (More

She laughs and says "I guess so!" Then Ken says "Good Morning, How is your day going so far?" She then looks up at him ans smiles and says ' not bad, thank you for asking"

She asks Ken why he's here...who filed for him he says his fiancee and she gives him a paper to write my name and sign his name. (My man was so nervous he spells my name WRONG!

But with his scribble she can't tell) She makes us swear in to tell the truth! So she begins with asking Ken how we met! "

We were following how everyone else answered this question and they (USCIS) want DETAILS in this answer! So Ken starts with "I work at the Holiday Inn and had the pleaseure of meeting this beautiful lady next to me when I was walking down the hall on the 4h floor or building #1!! From the first time I saw her I was just drawn to her beauty and vibes. I asked her to go out with me and after several rejections, she finally said 'YES!" He's about to go on and she says "ok!'

When did you met your Fiance? My man blurts out April, no January!!!!! (WRONG!!!!!!!) So she looks at the 129f that I completed and says "When?" At this point I jump in cause I know he's nervous as HELL!! I say "Ken look at me ...when did we meet?" He says when did we meet? "November 23, 2006!!! " (DAT'S RIGHT!) "Please tell the lady when we met!

"Oh, November 23, 2006...I am a little nervous today...sorry!" The lady then goes "No, my error I must have misheard you say January!(My girl played it off!!

- Let's not forget that there are cameras and mic's everywhere...the interviewers are being watched just as close as the interviewee(sp?)) they are suppose to take your first answer.

Tehn she asks if he has children and if his son has met me "Oh Yes!!" says Ken. Then she asks about my sons "Does you fiancee have children?"
"Yes, 2 beautiful boys!" says Ken
"Have you ever met them?" she asks
"They are wonderful kids!" says Ken (totally off the dyam subject!)
" Yes, but have but have you met them?" She asks again
"Oh, I'm sorry...Yes I have....would you like to see pictures?" says Ken

"No,. Mr. Young that won't be necessary. Your visa should arrive in approx. 2 weeks ....please go across the street to Airpack and blah blah blah!!!!!"

Bwoy, at that point I just put this shyt-eating grin on my face!! Ken says "thank you Ma'am!" I walk away and turn back and say "Thank you so much...you won't regret this!" She says..."I know!" with a wink and and smile!

We walk out of the waiting area into the hall where the nice Jamaican guy was helping us and Ken starts singing the Lupe Fiasco song...."You are what you say your are a SUPERSTAR!!!" and puts his shades on (Mr. confidence all of a sudden! :lol:

) I tell the guy we get through he smiles and says congrats!! I then said "GREY GOOSE TONIGHT!!!" All of the embassy people start laughing!

What an experience!! Again, I thank ALL of you for your support and prayers...THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!

Hey Brownie...you can take out a supplemental loan...however. be careful who you use! Sallie Mae, Citibank are a few of the better ones...also find out what there interest rates is and deferment policy....meaning if you go back for grad school will it be deferred until graduation and how long is there grace period between graduation and start paying back (typically is should be 6 months).

Also, do they have a forebearance policy...in case you run into economic hardship? I typically tell my students ALWAYS go through US. Dept. of Ed FIRST!!! Then supplement with a REPUTABLE company!

When you go to Grad school you will ONLY have loans (unless you have an outside fellowship) and I beg you ONLY USE THE DEPT OF ED then!!! They will give you more than enough $$ annually (unless you are going for med. school or law school).

I told my 'supportive' family members and my father. Aunts, Uncles...everyone one else jus a guh haffi find thorugh my family's gossip network! They will all talk ish amongst each other...but not to my face! I tried to tell the 'head' of deh gossip tree last night( so she could kick hoff deh new 'NEWS')...but as soon as she hear seh mi a guh Kingston...she start wan bag ah fussin'! yeah it was some serious jealousy. She not married but "supposedly" engaged and then not engaged...who knows. But get this.....she was supposed to get my dad from his hotel day of wedding. Why was i already like 1.5hrs late for my wedding cause people left me at the hotel by myself.

Then when i finally get there, my dad is MIA. I'm pissed, cause I think he's not trying to walk me down the aisle or something. So I say I'll walk mi own rass self. Den dem seh no no, yuh cyaan do dat. So a brother frum mi husband church walk me. My dad....never been to JA, had to hail his own taxi and got to the site while I was at the alter.....all cause my sister didn't go get him.

then the man calls and mr jengles says to him he is going to j.a. and the man could call me and get mr jengles cellphone number in j.a. o.k cool. the man calls a week later when he thinks mr jengles is in j.a. (remember now he lost his passport) so he was supposed to be in j.a. when the man called. the man says oh my duaghter went down yesterday. she's wasn't even staying anywhere around ochi, but still that is what u're calling him to tell him. not how u are doing or how is j.a. Is it just me reading too much into something. I asked one of my friends and she said I wasn't, just want to make sure. I haven't said anything to mr. jengles. the man has been calling since mr jengles has been gone but never when i'm home. so how do deal with something like that??
